Scoutcast Episode 293 – For Joe

The Scoutcast returned on Tuesday night to discuss all the key Fantasy Premier League talking points for Gameweek 37.

It was the first produced since we found out the deeply shocking news of Joe’s admission to hospital.

Our Scoutcast host was diagnosed with a bleed on the brain last week, so we thought it best to give the show a short break.

In preparing for this latest episode, Andy, David and Az found that we were being asked more questions about Joe than about the football itself, which we found incredibly touching.

So were able to provide an update on Joe who is obviously directing all his attention towards his recovery:

“Hi, Joe here from my hospital bed.  I understand that there have been lots of kind messages asking after me.  That’s been great to hear and I really appreciate your support, sorry I can’t reply directly at the moment. I am facing a massive challenge and all my energy is focused on getting better (and triple-captaining Aguero against Leicester 😉)”

In terms of Gameweek 37 issues, we started off by looking at the dilemma of Jamie Vardy (£9.0m), who has been in fantastic form but has two tough fixtures to finish off the season.

Then we flipped things round and discussed the points potential of Manchester United players.

They have appealing fixtures against Huddersfield (away) and Cardiff (home) but are not in particularly strong form.

The Scoutcast was then rounded off by considering strategies for either protecting mini-league leads or catching up to them.

Unfortunately, given current circumstances, we will be unable to convert the final two Scoutcasts of the 2018/19 season into podcast form – but they will still be accessible on YouTube and embedded in the article below.

We hope to be able to return to cross-platform posting for the start of the new campaign.

    4 point lead in ML.

    My team:

    Foster
    Doherty TAA Valery
    Son Mane Sterling Camarasa
    Aguero Jimmy Firmino

    Ryan Masina Bednarek Eriksen

    1 FT, 0.0 ITB

    His team:

    Guaita
    Bennett TAA Schar
    Sterling Mane Salah Fraser Moura
    Jimmy Rashford

    Patricio Janmaat King Trippier

2 FTs... not sure on ITB but not great team value.

From my perspective, Salah is the worry and the GKs are far stronger than mine.

Do you think I should just focus on my own points and go for:

    (A) Eriksen > Pogba
    (B) Foster > Patricio/Guaita/Rico
    (C) Eriksen > B Silva

Right not to take a -4 and who’s your money on???

Plagued me last week and is in decent form.

        Can hurt.

I had a 40 point lead last week.

Your Kun easily cancels out his Mo. I’d go Bilva

        249pts vs 193pts

That’s 56 difference, Kun does not cancel Mo in any way

I'd go Pogba. A lot of teams have scored 4 v Huddersfield and Man Utd need to score big to breach goal difference on other top 4 competitors, so I expect attacking tactics for the whole game.
I wouldn't worry about the goalies, it's only for one week as Foster has a decent fixture in GW38 and whether opponent goes for Palace and Wolves, the likelihood is no CS (but far more likely of a CS than Foster or Ryan)

    LIFE AFTER FPL SEASON ENDS

As the season draws to a close and with no World Cup to see us through the summer this year, what are everyone’s plans for the summer months?
Are you going to announce your retirement from FPL before making a surprise comeback in the summer?
Are you going to spend weeks and weeks theory crafting for the first GW of next season only for your star CB to play 27 minutes concede 6 goals and get a red card?
Are you going to desperately cling on to the games the Nations League has to offer and attempt to grace the pubs, outdoor screens and lounges across the country with shouts of ‘Southgate you’re the one’ and ‘it’s coming home’ even though no one really knows what will be coming home?

As for me, I'll be cheering on my country Kenya in the Africa Cup of Nations. I know we are shire and Mahrez and Mane are probably going to mop the floor with us, but who cares?

I've found myself not very active or in love the game this year, which has resulted in a pretty poor performance, so I'd like to think it'd be nice to take a year out...

But I know that won't happen! Picking a GW1 team is my absolute favourite part of the season!

I'll be playing lots of golf.

I am considering quitting next season though, as I've won my mini league's by a long way for about 5 years in a row. There's no banter any more with my mates. The other option is to play with a handicap next year.

Already taken a - 4 so not keen to take any more hits, but is there anything worth doing?

2 FT and really want Hazard this week - how to do it?

    Ryan
    Laporte, TAA, Doherty
    Sterling(VC), Mane, Eriksen, Son, Hojberg
    Aguero(C), Jimenez

    Subs: Foster, Duffy, Llorente Valery

    A. Duffy and Eriksen > Yoshida and Hazard

    B. Duffy and Mane > Shaw/Kolasinac and Hazard

If I do the Mane swap I’ll likely reverse it in GW38. If I do A I’ll keep Hazard for the next 2 weeks.

    What’s the shout then?

    Foster Ryan
    Duffy Robertson Bennett Vertonghen Bednarek

    What should I do?

    My team
    Ryan
    Kola-TAA-VVD
    Jota-Eriksen-Sterling-Mane-Son
    Jimenez- Wilson

    Subs Foster-Luiz-Rondon-Duffy

    0.8ITB, 1FT

Son/Eriksen out is the obvious move. They failed me during Brighton and WestHam home games when I expected a haul, but I keep telling myself they are a great differential and they are the early game on Saturday so surely they will go all-out attack vs Bournemouth to try and grab the CL place?

    Original plan was
    A. For a -8
Eriksen - Hazard (captain Haz in GW37)
    Son- Pogba
Luiz- Valery (bench Valery GW37, play GW38)

    B. for free
    Eriksen/Son to Pogba

    C. for free
    Mane to Hazard

20 points behind in ML. Rival has Pogba and Hazard. But doesn't have Son, Eriksen, Mane, Sterling.

With Spurs' result last night, how does this affect their selection vs Bournemouth?

Still just about in the tie? Obviously Son will start, but perhaps might get reduced minutes if winning?

What about other assets and the teams performance overall. Obviously Bournemouth have been super unreliable at home recently, however if they had scored some of the multitude of chances against FUL and won that game 2-1, or 3-1, then would people be viewing this fixture differently? 3 wins in a row going into a game against a tired, deflated spurs team?

Ajax were brilliant last night and deservedly won. Spurs have got their work cut out in the second leg but the return of Son should boost their chances. I thought the referee was absolutely fantastic.

Tonight promises to be a cracker too. Liverpool should fancy their chances if they continue to pursue a more mature and controlled approach.

P.S Good to see Jonty in contact, hope he is recovering! I also hope his TC fails miserably though! 😉

Ajax were good, but also Spurs were pretty bad.
Although to defend Pochettino, who I think has done an amazing job, look at the players he had available to him...having to play Llorente in a CL semi final, only senior players on the bench were Forth, and Davies!
Could you imagine how much Mourinho would complain if that was the team available to him?

      Good luck for tonight also.

Poch has overachieved by getting them to a CL semi with no investment. He is incredible.

Cheers, hoping we can nick a score draw and I would fancy us to go through. All depends on the wee man though, if he turns up we are probably heading out and you just have to hold your hands up at his sheer brilliance.

I've seen him come in for criticism this morning for the way they went into the game, tactically, and probably deserved...but I also look at that team on paper and think they have no right to be playing in the CL semi...or being 3rd in the league.

As a neutral I'm hoping both Messi, and Salah turn up, hoping for a classic, and could well happen.

If you have only 2 each from Pool & City would you concentrate your remaining transfers on tripling up on both or atleast one of them?

Currently own Mane, Robbo, Aguero & Sterling.

Really depends on the individual move.
Who else do you want from Liverpool, probably TAA, or Salah...obviously not easy to get Salah now, and there are a few defenders who could do as well as TAA in the next two.

City, I think getting a defender, either Laporte, or Ederson would be wise.

Yup I also prefer that option. Both nailed to play 90 mins both gameweeks, good form and going for the title.

Is salah>sterling a bad move ? Salah playing away against Barca tonight then pretty tough away fixture against Newcastle Saturday. Or is it a waste of a transfer this late in the season ?

If you have no other transfers to make its not a bad move.

I would want Sterling over Salah for the next 2.

Hey just saw the aguero goal vs burnley, how was that not a Bernardo assist?

We've seen many times this season controversy around assists.

From memory, Aguero sort of made contact and was blocked, and then took another shot, which crossed the line.

Almost caught a ML leader after BB and TC so 2 massive weeks for me.
ML leader is 6 points ahead, key differentials are Sterlin and Vardy, but no ManU players
3rd place is 8 points behind, key differentials are Laporte, pogba, rashford and vardy, but no City attackers

    My team for gw37:
    Foster (Ryan)
    Taa Doherty Vertongen (Duffy valery)
    Son jota mane Salah(Redmond)
    Jimenez Wilson Aguero

What is the best move now? 1ft, 0.4itb
    1) save ft and play current team
    2) salah-> sterling
    3) mane/son->pogba
    4) mane Vertongen (if out) -> shaw sterling for -4
    5) duffy-> kola/ shaw
    6) Wilson-> Rashford/Zaha

“Hi, Joe here from my hospital bed. I understand that there have been lots of kind messages asking after me. That’s been great to hear and I really appreciate your support, sorry I can’t reply directly at the moment. I am facing a massive challenge and all my energy is focused on getting better (and triple-captaining Aguero against Leicester)”
