Career Hall of Fame update: Sean Tobin leads Mark Sutherns at the top

As the launch of Fantasy Premier League 2019/20 draws ever nearer, we have taken the opportunity to highlight who the best-performing managers are in our recently updated Career Hall of Fame.

This ranking system is applied to everyone who takes part in either of our FPL leagues, with managers’ performances over the seasons then tracked to give a Hall of Fame (HoF) rating.

While the Live version of our Hall of Fame can only be viewed by Members, everyone can access the Career Hall of Fame by clicking here.

Further information on the Hall of Hame is included at the bottom of this article, but alternatively, you can view this movie to listen to Mark and Rate My Team’s Chris Atkinson discuss the feature.

2018/19 Career Hof: The Standings

2018/19 Career Hof: The Top Ten

Sean Tobin sits atop our Career Hall of Fame after his 16th-place finish in 2018/19.

Sean’s previous best finish was 923rd in 2014/15 and he has four other top 5,000 finishes in his nine-season history.

Initially breaking into the top 1,000 in Gameweek 9, Sean peaked at 7th in Gameweek 26.

Sean deployed his first Wildcard in Gameweek 4, subsequently rising from 69,955th to 508th in the space of six weeks.

All ten of our featured managers, including Sean, played their Free Hit, second Wildcard and Bench Boost chips in Gameweeks 32, 34 and 35 respectively.

Using the excellent FPL Statistico tool, we can see that Sean took hits totalling 24 points and used a 3-4-3 more than any other formation (23 times).

Sean hit double figures for captaincy points in all bar seven Gameweeks, with Mohamed Salah his most-captained asset – the Egyptian was handed the armband on 15 occasions.

Mark Sutherns stays in our Career Hall of Fame top ten for the third season in a row.

Mark almost recorded his fifth top 1k finish, having to settle for an overall rank of 1,367 in the end.

That was the fifth time Mark has finished with an overall rank between 1,000 and 5,000.

Mark favoured a three-man backline on 26 occasions, with Salah his most-captained player (19 times).

Like Sean, Mark played his first Wildcard early in the Season, in Gameweek 3.

Mark was outside the top one million at this point but was in the top 10k by Gameweek 14, only dropping out of it again on one occasion.

Mark made more transfers (50) than any of the top ten, taking 68 points-worth of hits throughout the season.

Fábio Borges is a new entry in our Career Hall of Fame top ten, after a 95th-place finish in FPL.

Fabio was as high as 28th in Gameweek 19 before dipping to 715th in Gameweek 29, only for a late surge to seal his first ever top 100 finish.

Fabio has never finished outside of the top 20,000 in five seasons of playing the game, improving his rank every year: he had finished 671st in 2017/18.

Fabio made 14 fewer transfers than Mark, ceding only 16 points in hits.

One trend that is familiar among our top three is an early first Wildcard: Fabio used his in Gameweek 5, subsequently rising from 35,020th to inside the top 1k in the space of four weeks.

Once again, Salah was the most-captained player: Fabio handed him the armband on 24 occasions.

A three-man defence was used on 21 occasions.

Stephen Harrap is another riser into the top ten, posting a career-best overall rank of 129 in the season just gone.

Stephen had strung together six successive top 10k finishes from 2011/12 onwards but this was the first time he had cracked the top 1,000.

Two triple-figure scores in Gameweeks 1 and 2 lifted him within touching distance of the top 1k, with Stephen rising to 255th by Gameweek 4.

Stephen was to spend 27 of the next 34 Gameweeks inside the top 1,000, never dropping out the top 500 from Gameweek 28 onwards.

Unlike our Hall of Fame top three, Stephen saved his first Wildcard till the last possible moment, deploying it in Gameweek 20.

Our first three managers featured all saved their Triple Captain chip until Gameweek 36 but Stephen successfully used his in Gameweek 25, hitting triple figures after handing the armband to Sergio Aguero.

The Manchester City striker was captained on 13 occasions by Stephen, with Salah trusted 16 times.

A 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 was used on 29 occasions.

Marlen Rattiner drops only one place in our Career Hall of Fame, from fourth to fifth.

Having recorded four top 1k finishes in the eight preceding seasons, Marlen ended with an overall rank of 2,477 – his third finish between 1,000 and 5,000 in his 11-year history.

Marlen’s end rank in 2018/19 was his highest of the season, although he spent 18 Gameweeks inside the top 10k and never once dropped outside the top 100,000.

There was an unusual deployment of a Triple Captaincy in Gameweek 38, though the 15-point return wasn’t as successful as our other managers who used their chips in Gameweeks 25 or 36.

A familiar pattern is developing here: a three-man backline was used on 31 occasions, with Salah the most-captained played (14 times).

A total of 46 transfers were made, at a cost of 52 points.

Grant Barclay, last season’s Career Hall of Fame number two, is now sixth in our table.

Grant only just missed out on what would have been a seventh straight finish inside the top 10k, ending with an overall rank of 10,643.

Grant’s previous two FPL finishes were within the top 1,000.

Grant’s best score of the season was 121 in Gameweek 25, when a Triple Captaincy of Aguero catapulted him from 34,101st to inside the top 10k for the first time in 2018/19.

The Argentinean striker was actually Grant’s most-captained player of the season, although Salah was handed the armband on only one fewer occasion (14 and 13 respectively).

A 3-5-2 was used on 16 occasions, with a 3-4-3 utilised ten times.

Grant was one of the many FPL managers who ditched Salah on a Gameweek 16 Wildcard, with the Egyptian subsequently embarking on a scoring spree over Christmas.

Alan Day‘s remarkable run of FPL form continues and he has the best average score of any Fantasy manager over the last three seasons.

After finishes of 137th and 368th in the preceding two years, Alan ended up 331st in 2018/19 and entered our Career Hall of Fame top ten for the first time as a result.

Alan was another one of our featured managers never to drop out of the top 100,000 in the season just gone.

A well-played Wildcard in Gameweek 9 saw him jump from 48,481st to just outside the top 1,000 in the space of seven Gameweeks.

Alan finally cracked the top 1k in Gameweek 24 and stayed there for the remaining months of the season.

Alan nailed his captain picks for the first 15 Gameweeks of the season, with Salah and Aguero his most-captained players over the course of 2018/19 (15 and 12 times respectively).

Alan was remarkably consistent in his formation choice, favouring a three-man backline on 35 occasions.

A 4-4-2 was used only twice, with the Bench Boost chip accounting for the other Gameweek.

Aleksander Våge Nilsen is a new entry into our Career Hall of Fame top ten, recording his third top 1k finish in the space of five seasons.

Aleksander finished with an excellent overall rank of 659th but an even better season was in the offing at one point.

The Norwegian manager cracked the top 1k for the first time in Gameweek 2, rising to 16th in the world by the halfway point of the season.

Aleksander was back down to 920th nine Gameweeks later – a Gameweek 25 Triple Captaincy of Leroy Sane not working out – but recovered well to stop the slide.

Salah was captained by Aleksander more than twice as many times (17) as his next most-favoured player.

A 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 were used on 26 occasions.

Tom Freeman rises to ninth in our Hall of Fame following another excellent campaign.

This was Tom’s fifth top 1k finish in ten seasons of playing FPL.

But for an anomalous finish of 181,455 in 2015/16, Tom would be towards the top of our leaderboard.

Tom’s final overall rank of 214th was his highest of the season and his best ever finishing OR in his history.

A Gameweek 15 Wildcard and a Gameweek 36 triple captaincy worked out well, while there was only one captaincy blank in the first 17 Gameweeks.

Salah, again, was his most-captained played (14 times).

A 3-5-2 was used on 16 occasions but a 4-4-2 was also popular, utilised a further 11 times.

Matthew Jones completes our list, just clinging on to his top ten spot after finishing third in our Career Hall of Fame last season.

Matthew managed to sneak another top 10k finish in, with four green arrows in the run-in lifting him from 26,163rd to a final rank of 9,864th.

That was Matthew’s eight top 10,000 finish, three of which were inside the top 1k.

Matthew’s Gameweek 19 Wildcard was a success, lifting him from the 40,000 mark to the fringes of the top 10k.

Patience was the key, with Matthew the joint-least-active member of our top ten in terms of transfers made (36) and hits taken (16 points).

Matthew nailed the captaincy for the first 13 Gameweeks of the season and backed Salah with the armband most over the course of 2018/19 (16 times).

A 3-4-3 was used on 17 occasions, with a 3-5-2 deployed a further nine times.

2018/19 Career Hof: Other notable performances

Andrew Hyde and Stuart Wright narrowly missed out on a top ten spot in our Career Hall of Fame, finishing in 11th and 12th despite recording top 10,000 overall ranks.

Stuart, indeed, has never finished outside the top 10k in his four seasons playing the game and posted an overall rank of 7th in his debut campaign in 2014/15.

Aside from his one top 1k finish, this was Andrew’s fifth overall rank inside the top 10,000.

Adam Levy rises to 25th place in our Career Hall of Fame after landing the FPL crown.

Adam led the way from Gameweek 29 onwards and had a comfortable winning margin of 57 points in the overall standings, also running away with the two Fantasy Football Scout FPL leagues.

You can read about Adam’s incredible season via the links below:

READ MORE: Interview with Adam Levy – part one
READ MORE: Interview with Adam Levy – part two

Andrew Green and Tore Bjørheim, who finished second behind Adam in our two FPL leagues and ended with overall ranks of third and 18th respectively, rise to 245th and 1677th.

2017/18 Career HoF Top Ten: Where are they now?

As we have discussed above, four managers who were in our Career Hall of Fame top ten in 2017/18 are still there 12 months later: Mark, Marlen, Grant and Matthew.

Two of last season’s top ten haven’t fallen far, with Owen Walker in 13th and Richard Clarke in 19th.

Both managers narrowly failed to secure top 10k finishes in the season just gone.

Owen and Richard have three and two previous top 1,000 ranks to their names respectively.

Last year’s FPL runner-up Paul Gee falls to 40th in our Career Hall of Fame after a still-creditable finish of 31,530 in 2018/19, while the much-discussed Ville Ronka now sits in 72nd after ending the season just gone with an overall rank of 47,161.

Ville, who has finished in the top 1k on an enviable four occasions, had been in 817th place in Gameweek 16 but then suffered 12 straight red arrows.

After two seasons in the Career Hall of Fame top ten, Lester Cheng drops down to 171st.

Like a lot of seasoned FPL managers, Lester suffered a difficult campaign.

Lester, who has thrice finished in the top 1,000, ended up outside the top 100k for the first time in 12 seasons.

Perhaps the most notable fall sees Jay Egersdorff, last season’s Career Hall of Fame number one, drop to 174th.

Jay has three top 1k and seven top 10,000 finishes to his name but even he endured a year to forget, ending up with an overall rank of 282,069.

Hall of Fame FAQ

How is my rating calculated?
The “HoF Rating” is based on your points scores from previous FPL seasons, with the latest season weighted the heaviest and each corresponding season weighted at roughly 80% that of the previous season. So, in other words, those who performed best in 2018/19 will receive a bigger HoF Rating boost from those who did best in 2007/08. The “HoF Ranking” even allows for those with missing years, adapting the formula accordingly to allow rookies to rank alongside the veterans of FPL.

How do I join the Hall of Fame
Simply sign up to our leagues next season, either the Fantasy Football Scout Classic League or if you’re a member, the Members’ Classic League – the code for the latter league will be available on the dashboard of the Members’ Area after launch.

  1. The Case for Coleman

One player I am surprised has not been mentioned more (or literally at all?) - Seamus Coleman

It’s obvious that he is in Digne’s metaphorical shadow from an FPL hype perspective - and with Digne having set pieces, and those points explosions last year - who wouldn’t get excited (I definitely am)

But a stat I found intruiging - since the beginning of 2018 (17 gameweeks/18 possible starts) their points were almost identical:

    - GW21-38:
    - Coleman 85 points / 14 starts
    - Digne 84 points / 16 starts

Digne obviously got a red card and an OG in that spell which didn’t help, but equally, Coleman actuallly started 2 games less than Digne in this period...

His season was always going to be about recovering from that horrific leg break, and as it wore on it certainly appears he has gone a long ways towards doing exactly that

I’d certainly be putting Coleman on my defensive shortlist - his price tag vs. Digne’s will be interesting - and the double up surely has to be considered given those fixtures - especially if (as expected) Siggy & Rich get serious price hikes?

      Hmmmm

125 points for the season. Yes he missed a few in the first 19 but there were more occasions he failed to make as many as 2 points as there were returns.

I think in hindsight he was still mentally getting back into the game for the first half of the season - to even kick a ball after *that* leg break (*shudders*) was an achievement let alone get back to where he now is

Pre-injury he was a superb FPL player and since the turn of the year the appears to be recapturing some of that quality

I was surprised he not only actually outscored Digne who is something on an FPL poster-child (and with extremely good reason) but did so form two less starts - really didn’t expect that

Fair point about the leg break and Digne comparison.

I’m just really cautious about Everton defence given the way they played for 19 weeks last season. Attacking returns are great but without the bread and butter of regular cs they could be overpriced.

From GW28 - GW37 they were like an early 1990’s Serie A side defensively - 8 cleansheets in 10 games suggests an almost obsessive compulsive attention to defensive detail on the training ground from Silva - will it continue is the tricky thing to predict

Ah but does that have something to do with Everton turning a corner during the second half of the season.

They looked so good towards the end, especially at home. 8 CS in 11 appearances towards the end of the season - not even Liverpool & City can match those stats.

If Everton carry on with that defensive solidity to this campaign then their defenders will be gold - but I suspect a lot of that rests on Gueye & Gomes.

Agreed - as pointed out below Everton finished the season with 8 CS in 10 games (excluding GW38 obvs) - that is a coconuts level of defensive solidity

Digne & Coleman will have the added advantage of not necessarily needing a CS to score points though, and the double advantage of the chance of a mega haul every time everton keep a CS, even one attacking return would almost certainly attract baps when paired with a CS

Andre Gomes has just signed, can’t imagine Gueye moving anywhere (unless United fail to get their first choice MF targets), feel not having Zouma may hurt

That’s good news - pretty much agree on Zouma

Although bizarrely in the last 6 games he failed to start for Everton (Chelsea, cardiff, Liverpool, Watford, Cardiff, chelsea) they actually kept 4 cleansheets, and only conceded 3 goals, one of which was origi’s silly rebounded crossbar last second goal at anfield, so we’re he to leave it may not totally ruin their defensive abilities

Gueye & Gomes staying would be huge

Keeping the midfield intact is huge and who's to say they won't sign a centre back that turns out to be even better than Zouma.

I have to agree - I think it’s as much (if not more) the case that Gueye & Gomes make it easy for any centrehalf to play behind them, than it is that Zouma is indispensable

Keep those two central mids on their books & I think this Everton fullback double up is a “go” to be honest

Gomes is the issue for me. They shipped 3 at Newcastle and 2 at Fulham with him in the team. Much better with Schneiderlin in the double pivot with Gueye, in my opinion.

They had 6 CS’s in Gomes’ last 10 starts, but equally seemed very capable of solidity without him (same for Zouma)

Overall it’s Probably fairly safe to acknowledge Gueye as key

13 goals conceded in the 5 games he missed says a lot

I think it was actually 4 clean sheets in Gomes' last 10 starts, but I completely agree Gueye is Everton's most important player.

It was actually 6 CS in his last 11 starts, 5 CS in his last 10 starts and 3 CS in his last 4 starts - not leaky by any means (he didn’t start spurs, Cardiff or Liverpool)

But overall it’s “No Gueye No Party” as far as their defence is concerned

Which is definitely reassuring when considering Digne & Coleman to know that data suggests Zouma & Gomes are both replaceable from a CS perspective

I still make it 4 clean sheets in Gomes' last 10 starts - against Arsenal, West Ham, Chelsea and Huddersfield. They conceded against Fulham, Newcastle, Watford, Man City, Wolves and Southampton.

Your point on Schneiderlin is very relevant

                        Really interesting read

                        And looks like - Schneiderlin started GW28, 29, 35, 36, 37, 38

Everton kept 5 cleansheets in those games (the 5 that Coleman started - he missed GW38)

Coleman got 44 points in those 5 games and Digne got 46 points

If Silva is going to play Gueye & Scheniderlin we may possibly need both Coleman & Digne in our teams at that rate 🙂

                    Interesting read regarding Schneiderlin.

If he and Gueye start the season, I'm very tempted with a TAA - Robbo - Digne - Coleman back line with Ederson in goal as my defence.

                    Dependant on prices obviously..

Nice spot, the prices of Everton picks will be fascinating. I may just go for Pickford initially.

Pickford will be hugely popular I’d imagine... I prefer a 4.5 keeper personally though, although Ederson & Allison both knocked it out of the park last year at higher price points and could do so again

I’m certainly starting to become interested in the everton fullback double up idea... (prices are key obviously)

If they were to play a 3-5-2 porobably even more so

But equally if Coleman is 0.5 or even 1.0 (wishful thinking?) cheaper than Digne it’ll give food for thought for those going for a single Everton defender

so if going for Everton defensive double up...who would your other 3 defenders be? 1 City, 1 Pool and 1 bench fodder?

Well its obviously all dependent on prices - but - Matt Ritchie’s reclassification not withstanding:

            Henderson(4.5)
            Robbo(8.0), TAA(7.0), Laporte(6.5), Digne(6.0), Ritchie/Coleman (6.0)
            Salah(13.0), Sterling(12.0), _____
            Vardy(9.0), _____
            (4.0, 4.5, 4.5, 4.5)

This would leave 10.5-ish for two outfield attackers, either 2 striker or 2 mids, or 1 of each... or 10.0 for two attackers and a wee bit more of a bench etc -maybe a 4-way 5.0 attacking rotation even to pad out the two blank spots

If there happens to be one or two decent playing 4.5 mids/strikers then Could actually afford a 6.0/6.5 in one of the blanks - Dwight McNeil at 4.5 would be interesting for example

*DISCLAIMER:I UNDERSTAND AND AM FINE WITH HAVING TWO VERY CHEAP ATTACKERS STARTING EVERY WEEK* lol

Does AFCON change your thinking on Salah?

Surely he and Mane will get a rest before starting back considering they finished the season late, already starting an international tournament and more than likely playing last match of AFCON two weeks before season start. If they don't get a break then surely they'll be burned out soon.

For this reason, I'm thinking of tripling up in defence with Liverpool and then going Aguero & Sterling.

              Ederson (6.0) Henderson (4.5)
              VVD (6.5) TAA (7.0) Robbo (7.5) Digne (6.0) 4.0
              Sterling (12.0) Grealish (6.0) Fraser (7.5) KDB (9.0) 4.5
              Wilson (8.0) 6.0 5.5

Yeah at the minute I’m assuming Salah doesn’t get rested - but closer to the time will re-assess

I dont personally think they will be rested - but devils advocate - if ever there was a good extra week to give a player it’s possibly at home to a newly promoted team (as good as Norwich are & they could potentially give a lot of teams a lot of problems this year)

Interested to see Ederson and no Laporte.

Laporte seems to be an almost automatic pick here right now. But at the time of the late second WC last season he was a fairly marginal pick.

Those last 4/5 games and bps seem to have altered thinking. Unlike almost all the other premium defenders he is a relatively long shot for attacking returns

I think the difference is that Ederson has/had much stiffer completion that Laporte - basically on pure value, cheaper GK’s tend to be king of the hill

It’s very hard for a 5.5+ GK to offer as much value, although Ederson & Allison are possibly exceptions

                    Perhaps

But the only budget keepers to beat Ederson for value last season were Etheridge and Fab (and perhaps Pickford). Of those Etheridge and Pickford got multiple pen saves.

I’ve been shouted down on this before but I’m expecting Fab to come in at 5.0. If he does then I’m certainly looking at Ederson over Laporte for my City defensive cover.

Certainly something to be aware of - a 5.5 Ederson & a 6.5 Laporte would leave an interesting choice - Ederson may be the shrewder pick... especially if Henderson’s move to sheff Utd doesn’t materialise

(If it does materialise he’s almost first name on my teamsheet - I could see him being this season’s Etheridge & then some)

My thinking there is to go to the nailed player in the defence. I was initially put off by the Maguire rumours - both he and Laporte are left footed so it put doubts about Laporte in my mind.

I’d be tempted to double on City defence by getting in Ederson on your model.

Until Laporte had his late run abd starting picking up bps Ederson was more or less matching him.

I owned Ederson for most of last season - and from GW11 - GW25 it was honestly one of the most frustrating experiences i’ve Ever had in FPL

There was a time around GW14 when it was very obviously a high advantage play to switch to Fabianski given West Ham & city’s respective fixtures - and it would have been worth 30+ points as it turned out - but I said I’d stick with Ederson unfortunately

If Coleman was 0.5m cheaper than Digne would that persuade you pick Coleman instead? I'm not sure it would for me.

And if Zouma stays at Chelsea, and Gueye leaves, doubling up on Everton defence sounds uncomfortable.

There's also TAA and Robertson to fit in, and the defence is quickly getting bloated. We'll have to wait for prices to see if four-at-the-back is viable, or even desirable.

Agreed on all counts - and the Gueye/Zouma point was something I was going to put in the OP but I said I’d leave it out for brevity

In terms of a Coleman 5.5 / Digne 6.0 scenario - i’d have to say Digne at 6.0 is in my team, almost unconditionally... But I wanted to test whether that was solid thought process so looked at their records in more detail

I have to admit I am a massive Coleman fan from years gone by (he was in my GW1 team last year but it was half a season too early) and I think he is a joy to watch - as a utd fan it’s a great regret they never signed him - so this may be tainting my view slightly, but pre-injury he was up there as an extremely useful FPL asset - and when I saw just how good (and how under the radar) his output has been since the turn of the year it piqued my interest.

I also agree with your point about the depth of the pool of defenders that is emerging - TAA, Robbo, VVD, Laporte, Digne, Mendy, even potentially Matt Ritchie - for me Coleman is also on that shortlist

We say it every year - but I can see see big at the back RMT’s on the horizon....

If Everton maintain their defensive stability
If they keep Gueye, Gomes etc
If Coleman & Digne maintain their fitness
        If they’re both kindly priced

They could possibly emerge as this season’s TAA/Robbo full back double act

Well that’s that settled then! 😉

In all seriousness, whilst you have stated an opinion as an indisputable fact (never a good thing) I get the gist of what your post is saying

Yet I have to say I am very skeptical on whether it’s a slam dunk that Digne outscores Coleman - their respective 2019 FPL performances, over half a season suggest it is anything but a forgone conclusion... And Digne for me is one of the most promising prospects in the game for this season...

Equally, from a pricing perspective, i’d be surprised if there was more than 0.5 between them, but we’ve all been playing FPL for long enough now to know that stranger things have happened

Every £0.5m really counts though af the start of the season when you’re on a limited budget and if you want to be ahead of the masses then Coleman could be a tidy differential.

          My thoughts exactly...

There are several players with extreme FPL potential going into any season - resulting from a combination of one or more of their pedigree, their fixtures, their role, their price tags etc - for me he is one for sure who ticks nearly all those boxes (price tag notwithstanding 🙂 )

Just to add to this - relative to Digne, Coleman seemed to go through a “dark period” in the middle third of the season

We can conveniently ignore GW1 & GW38 for both Digne & Coleman as they both didn’t score any points in those weeks.... splitting the remaining 36 weeks into 3x blocks of 12x GWs:

      GW2-13: Digne 38 pts 10 starts / Coleman 33 points 8 starts
      GW14-25: Digne 46 pts 13 starts / Coleman 21 points 12 starts
      GW26-37: Digne 73 pts 11 starts / Coleman 70 pts 10 starts

      - 2019 (GW21-38):
      - Coleman 85 points / 13 starts
      - Digne 84 points / 16 starts

In both blocks 1& 2 (I.e. two thirds of the season) Coleman seemed to keep pace quite easily - not sure what happened in the middle third other than Digne’s 17 pointer v Burnley in GW19 (Coleman got 2 points that day) - but if Coleman is even 0.5 cheaper he’ll possibly be worth consideration imo

      - Player Points/Minutes/Appearances:

      - Robbo 213/3219/36 = 5.96 PP90, 5.91 PPA
      - VVD 208/3384/38 = 5.53 PP90, 5.47 PPA
      - TAA 185/2460/29 = 6.76 PP90, 6.38 PPA

It will be very interesting to see how FPL price them given the fact that they all play the same position for the same team

This should strip out any noise as to whether they prioritise points, points per 90, or points per appearance to set prices

      I was originally thinking/hoping 7.0 TAA, 7.5 VVD, 8.0 Robbo - but now i’m not so sure

How do you expect these ones to be priced? Given the pre-price template the difference makers could be the budget options:

    Bats
    Arnie
    Brooks
    JWP

    Gross
    Townsend

        Arnie - 7.0 striker
        Brooks - 6.0
        JWP - 5.5
        Redmond - 6.5 striker
        Schlupp* - 5.5 mid
        Gross - 6.5
        Townsend - 5.5

The Townsend JWP combo could work for me at those prices in a 5 man midfield. Nothing too spectacular but a steady drip of points.

Is Redmond really at risk of reclassification?

They could be 6.0... hard to price. We'll have to see. Neither particularly excites me though. I'm greedy, I want players who perform vastly above their pricing, not roughly what they should. A steady drip of points may well be 5.5m standard, but I want my 5.5/6.0 mids to perform much higher, like a Fraser last season.

Redmond predominantly played as a striker under Hasenhüttl, right? I hope he's a striker, the more budget options in that position the better.

              I guess.

Could Harvey Barnes be the one? I’d certainly pick Leicester as an attacking force under Rodgers. And he’s still at the unfulfilled stage so should come in dirt cheap.

The other one who could explode I guess is Brooks. If Fraser moves on you’d think he’d be ever more central to Bournemouth attacks.

I don't think Barnes is in the first team yet.

Demarai Gray could be one to watch under Rodgers in pre-season (After Euro U21s). He had poor output last season, but is young, quick, and has a very attacking role in that team. We'll have to see if Leicester make any signings there - he was the weak link in the team last season, so wouldn't be surprised if they strengthened that left-inside-forward position.

But I'm waiting until prices before looking around for these gems.

You could be in the right of it. Another who interests me. I’ll confess he’s just a name to me right now is Mount.

If Lampard gets the Chelsea gig their history could mean he gets a first team spot perhaps with no RLC or CHO.

Is he an attacking force? I thought I saw before the game there was a possibility he could play ahead of Foden in the u21s.

Even without Hazard a starting Chelsea attacker in the 5.0 range is interesting.

As exciting as these young players are, a Premier League side would prefer to play a Kovacic or Barkley over a Mount, who have far more experience at the highest level. We would have to wait for him to be established and play every single week before considering him.

RLC or CHO are two players who have already played at this level, and quite well, so I think they could push for a spot this season. Their injuries are bad though, so it might be a while.

Gray is too rotation prone as well tbh. Him, Barnes and Choudhury could share minutes again, with Maddison playing wide when Choudhury plays. That's if Maddison even stays...

Can't see any punts at Leicester until they sign players.

How cheap would the Sanchez, Martial, Lukaku, Rashford and Lingard have to be to be interested in them from GW1/2?

    1. The 5% Team
      • 5 Years

Martial and Rash same price as at the end of last season.
Lukaku 9.0 (or same as Vardy)
Sanchez and Lingard too little playing minutes I think to consider an option, so even at 5.0 won't get either of them

Guys, newbie member here but I was wondering if someone who’s familiar with the process could tell me how I go about posting a prospective article through the website? I’ve been discussing with Geoff via email the submission of an article on auction-based fantasy football and he has asked me to submit it via the “Community Article portal” but I’ve been driving myself crazy trying to find this portal, without any success. Does anyone know where I can find it, please?!

Restricting Mane's space gives other players like Robertson more space. Liverpool have multiple avenues for attacks, and that's what makes them so dangerous going forward. I don't think teams will focus on restricting Mane's space in particular.

His pricing will probably mean most opt for Salah instead for the armband.

      - Agree that Mané *may* not score as many points this season (equally it is entirely possible that he does, or even a few more)

      - Almost certain that he *wont* offer as much value this season (his price will see to that imo)

      - Disagree that “space” will be a factor (Salah will still be marked out as danger #1 for most opposing defences I suspect)

It's very doubtful that Ashley will concede to Rafa's proposals regarding transfer budget so he'll more then likely walk when his contracts up at the end of the month. We're stuck playing for 17th again for another season as it stands.

      1. Wild Rover

Maybe he's just trying to put pressure on Ashley. He doesn't seem the type to go somewhere just for money

Can't see that ever working against the Ashley regime unfortunately, we'll just get the same old spiel of either 'we tried' or 'but the club is up for sale' regurgitated again, rinse and repeat. New strips been released today like which is normally just about as good as it gets for us folk up north for June/July.

All good players but I think you’ve likely undercalled the combined prices of TAA, Robbo, Digne & Siggy by somewhere in the region of ~1.5m-2.0m

      1. Coys96
        • 6 Years
        4 years, 9 months ago

Possibly, I can’t see Digne being over 5.5 due to playing for Everton, and TAA and Robertson will probably be around £15m between them, not sure about Siggy tbh

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
          • 14 Years
          4 years, 9 months ago

          5.5 would be beautiful

But I think set pieces in general and the fact that he already has goal(s) from DFK’s and assist(s) from corners, combined with everton’s Quite frankly ridiculous 8 CS in 10 games towards the end of the season will mean we won’t get lucky with a 5.5

          Really hope I’m wrong though

And even with all that stuff Digne has going for him (and it’s a lot) you only have to look 40 yards across the pitch to find a full back who outscored him (from 2 less starts!) in 2019

          1. Coys96
            • 6 Years
            4 years, 9 months ago

Yeah, still prefer Digne as an option even if was £1m more. Coleman getting old, not on set pieces. Digne better attacking option- Coleman still good option tho

              • 14 Years

Its a majority opinion - and possibly not without good reason - but I find it fascinating that it didn’t bear itself out in points - especially in the second half of the season as Coleman gained more and more sharpness after the leg break

Mili I think could be 8.0 - he didn’t score his first goal under hodgson until GW10 of 2017/18... as FDB had been experimenting with him as a centre half

Since then he’s gone on to notch 22 goals & 4 assists in 66 games - remarkable consistency (even though nearly 20 were pens, he also takes DFK’s and is a threat from corners)

Same - I was a teacher under Gove when he was education minister and his reforms pushed many great teachers out the door, sounds like Hunt did a similar job with the NHS, selling it off through the back door etc.
Choosing anyone from the contest was like choosing which way you'd prefer to be tortured, but Rory was at least level headed. If its Gove vs Boris in the final round I think it might be time to pack up and get out while we can. Both completely mental and care nothing for ordinary folk.

Frank Lampard’s Derby most often played 433.

Does anyone think there will be value in Giroud, Pedro, Willian or Pulisic without Hazard or Higuain there? What would you pay for them in GW1/2?

Assuming he doesn’t follow Sarri, will a 4.5/5.0 Jorginho be tempting given he should/may be on penalties?

You pretty much showed why it's a bad idea as any replies don't get posted either.

Easily could hattrick in GW1 and there will be panic if he does

I’m Not going there personally though

I think if he was 10.0 i’d possibly be quite tempted, at 11.0 I’d probably not bother

Man Utd €55m fee agreed for Aaron Wany-Bizzle-Boids apparently

Looks like the Diogo Dalot money was well spent

That performance last night obviously convinced them that he was a prefect fit for the United defence.

He certainly has potential but he is far from the finished article and I am not sure United is the right club for him to thrive.

I'd be more worried about being under JLingz' wing!

Utd are crap at RB though. Young is a converted winger. Valencia is a converted winger and has been released anyway. Darmian is a wing-back and slow. They need to sign a first choice RB and AWB can be that man. Dalot will push him for a place.

Dalot was not pocket change - but I presume he’ll have decent-ish resale value

I don’t see utd spending €55m on a rotating fullback so I’d assume Wany is nailed

Must have been the recent own goal that pushed the price up.

Great for AWB and Man United.I am looking forward to seeing him develop even more at United and hopefully he can be a part of a resurgence at United fueled by young talent.

That instantly makes AWB a £5.5m defender rather than a £5m one. I'm out.

Thought I'd leave this here while it's still quite quiet. Expected clean sheets 2018/19 based on probabilities for each game based on relationship between xGC in a game and cleansheets that someone deduced from previous season (xGC>1 in a match = 13% chance of clean sheet; 0.5 < xGC in match

Surely Mane is at least £11m? I wouldn't complain with £10.5 though. Can also see him being reclassified as a forward.

Can see Robertson being £0.5 dearer than TAA too personally.

Sterling was 11m this season and is far superior to Mane in minutes played the season before.

          Mane : 231 - 3076
          Sterling last season : 229 - 2770

Can't see Mane scoring the 231 again as his goals/clean sheets will probably drop a touch. Assists are the main area where improvement is possible.

Equally, Mané blew his own prior year’s points and PP90 to bits so i’m not sure he’ll escape with just a 1.0 rise - you never know though

            Season : pts / mins / PP90 / price:
            2017/18: 147 / 2189 / 6.04 / €9.5m
            2018/19: 231 / 3076 / 6.76 / €?m

I reckon 11.0 but then again 10.5 might make sense as I think he needs a 2.5m-ish gap to be viable over Salah who’s Probably 13.0-ish again

Minutes/injuries were the main reason for no 200+ season.
Comparing to De Bruyne, 11 is reasonable, comparing to Sterling 10.5 works for last season.

I think Sterling’s 11.0 possibly may have included a haircut for “nailedness” as he had completion within the squad, Pep rested him on a good few occasions and they had also just signed Mahrez for big bucks - whereas KDB was nailed bar injury so didn’t have he same type of reduction baked into his price

Even this season Pep tended to bench Sterling every 6th game or so...with Mané being nailed i’d Imagine 11.0, but equally 10.5 is entirely possible

Mane's price closer to my evaluation tbf. Maddison could tempt me if he was £6.5. Auba might go up £0.5 - wasn't he £11m last year?
