Nicklas Bendtner is notoriously not short of confidence. In an interview with a UK newspaper three years ago the Danish international summed up his levels of self-belief by claiming: “I want to be known as a world-class striker. And it will happen. Trust me, it will happen. I look around at other players, I see my own ability and I can’t see anything that tells me it won’t happen.”

Countless times since then, those words have come back to haunt him; most memorably, perhaps, was back in March 2010, when a trio of sitters even forced Bendtner to laugh it off as he made his way to the subs bench. Firmly behind Robin Van Persie in the pecking order up front for Arsene Wenger’s side, Bendtner mustered a mere eight goals in the previous two seasons and with his chances of first-team football at the Emirates little-to-non-existent, a loan move to Sunderland on the last day of this season’s summer transfer window afforded the big Dane a chance in the spotlight.

Bendtner was far from world class during the first half of his season under Sunderland’s then-manager Steve Bruce, scoring just two goals. He fared little better during the winter months when Martin O’Neill arrived at the Stadium of Light, as injury curtailed his game time. From December through to February he managed a solitary goal and missed four fixtures, with those words from three years ago continued to echo solemnly around Premier League grounds.

The month of March, however, saw a dramatic turnaround in form, with Bendtner surprisingly emerging as one of the most potent strikers in the Premier League. From Gameweek 27 through to Gameweek 31, Bendtner notched up four goals, amassed seven bonus points and produced two assists to take his Fantasy Premier League tally over those five games to 37. In terms of forwards, only Papiss Cisse, with 39 points, managed to outperform the 6.1 priced Bendtner.

With six goals in their last two games, the Sunderland team as a whole, especially Stephan Sessegnon – who assisted Bendtner’s goal against Manchester City last weekend – are also among the Premier League’s form sides. With Sessegnon, Seb Larsson and James McClean, there is plenty of willing support to help Bendtner maintain his eye for goal and add to his six assists so far this season.

He certainly has some strong home fixtures on the horizon to test this theory (TOT, eve, WOL, avl, BOL, ful, MAN). Crucially Sunderland also play during Gameweek 34, hosting Wolves when eight teams miss out due to FA Cup scheduling, making him an even more valuable asset in the coming weeks should his form continue. With a strong home game in Gameweek 36 against Bolton, those Fantasy managers who are perhaps looking for alternatives to the double Gameweek will be eyeing up the 1% owned differential over the Gameweeks ahead. Who knows, if Bendtner can keep up this goal scoring record, maybe, just maybe, he’ll prove himself to be right all along.

oh well he has been pretty consistent for the past 5 games? for a 6.1 striker, he's a decent option. but no doubt there's more better striker than him.

yup, would have the Sess, playable in 34 and 36 (and liable to outscore many DGW options) Mid of Bale, Sess, Clint and Siggy for me in 36 (maybe with McClean if i can dare to bench RvP)

thought I'd re-dangle this on the new post...

so far i have 10 players for GW34….

    Vorm

    Verm Evans

    Siggy Valencia Walcott Sess

    RVP Rooney Hoilett

Is it really worth an FT to bring in an 11th player? It would be a cheap defender (turner) so not expecting much more than 6 points in return.

I’m leaning toward saving the transfer for a good gw36 player?

Unless you still have a WC to play, I reckon 9 or 10 for GW34 is about right. Save your FT to get in more DGW players after GW34.

You remember that year when Villa were statistically the team with lowest number of substitutions...

O'Neill tends to find an eleven that he is happy with a goes with it...

But then again, why would he come out publicly and say that he will rotate until the end of the season now that they are safe?

Remember Bendtner is only on loan, and with permanent players like Wickham yet to be properly blooded this might affect Bendtner more than most...

I'm surprised that the Scouts never picked up on this (or even mentioned the possibility)...

Those quotes from ONeill came in after the article was written but I still don't think it'll effect Bendtner's game time. ONeill is very much of the if it ain't broke why fix it mentality and while I can see Wickham etc coming on as subs, I see Bendtner starting up front with Sess and the usual suspects in support for the next few games at least. He might get rotated at the end of the season, last game or so, but I think most will be looking at Bendtner as a gret gwk 34 option with some decent fixtures either side.

The question around Bendtner is not will be play, it's will he perform to the standards that his vast ego set.

Yeah I suppose, a defender with attacking threat could get near the 20 point mark if things go his way. Three nailed on Spurs players could be the way to go, then a few other DGW players to ensure I don't ruin my team.

I'm steering clear of both (I don't even have Bale so he should be my priority) but not keen on losing Walcott, Dempsey or Valencia, so even getting Bale is a challenge. VDV could be a decent differential and has nice fixtures in 37 and 38. I think we could get top 1k just by playing it safe, and avoiding players like Bendtner!

Ahh right I'm not too sure yet, I feel Mata could rake in the points but it's Chelsea and all they're going to be fighting for is CL and FA Cup, which makes me very cautious about them.

I'll very likely get another Spurs player to get maximum coverage, will either be in the form of VDV because he's got huge potential, or one of the nailed on defenders.

Not sure about Dempsey for DGW, I'll judge him on this week against Bolton and see how he does, his 3 goals out of 15 this season have been away though, which isn't great so makes me lean towards a player with better fixtures.

That sounds pretty good to me 😀

McClean is enough Sunderland coverage for me...for now.

No idea why England didn't refer that, only one wicket left and the one referral still to do. Worth the shout.

Ye, just spilling cricket onto this page. Don't hate me.

            To me it did 🙁

9 wickets down, dodgy LBW decision, one referral left for England. Should've used it.

They'll throw it away, I'm sure.

Do the people who are seriously considering Bendtner have Mclean or Sess already?

As I would not be keen on doubling on Sunderland attack when there are so many other options at the minute with the upcoming DGW's

I would have Ba, Cisse or Odemwingie ahead of him. Possibly even Jelavic (although not too keen on him myself)

Although if budget is not an issue, Ade is the one to have.

Surely Pool, Spurs, Newcastle etc are monitoring him. £10m should do it.

        Miggy Schwarzer
        Simpson Lescott Evans Caulker Cahill
        McClean Mata Walcott Surman Andrews
        Rooney RVP Adebayor

Dont know where to go with this keeping GW34 and 36 in mind. Just got back from a vacation and saw these massive changes.

        Help?

I do have a FT this week. 1.2 in the bank
        Save it?

Do Schwarzer > Bogdan for now and free up some cash?
