Why has Everton’s attack been so underwhelming so far this season?

Everton’s popular attacking assets have underwhelmed Fantasy Premier League managers so far this season.

After two matches, they have scored just once, only Crystal Palace finding the net fewer times than the Toffees at this stage.

Perhaps we should not be too surprised to see Marco Silva’s men struggle in front of goal at this stage.

During their pre-season campaign, they scored just three goals in seven matches, with Richarlison (£8.0m) the only key figure missing for most of it.

One was registered against Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks, while Monaco and Mainz were the only other teams to concede against Everton.

The Toffees drew blanks in four of their summer friendlies, against FC Sion, Wigan Athletic, Sevilla and Werder Bremen.

Of those who found the back of the net, Joe Williams and Lewis Gibson are not first-team regulars, the former now a permanent Wigan player, while Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) is the only summer goal-scorer to have played in either Premier League match so far this season.

Accordingly, ahead of a Gameweek 3 trip to Aston Villa, Fantasy managers might be looking to move on their Everton attackers.

We have assessed the underlying statistics from their first two matches of the campaign to find out if the Toffees have simply been unlucky not to score more often, or if there are some tangible reasons for concern.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

I dropped Wilson for Pukki - there's already a 0.3 price swing, and I now have a more in form player, who isn't playing City next.

      Must be a noob

Can't afford another Fraser drop as well as Perez dropping tonight. 2FT:

    Pope
    Robbo - Digne - Montoya - KWP
    Salah - Sterling - Fraser - Perez
    Kane (C) - King

    Button - Donkers - Lundy - Greenwood

    A) Fraser+Perez > Martial + 6.2 seem reasonable?

    1) Mount
    2) McGinn/Grealish
    3) Lamela
    4) Trossard

I’m keeping for at least another look this week against Villa who have the second worse xGc in the league. As you said should have had at least 1-2 assists if Richarlison could finish so let’s say he gets 1 assist: would be on 9 points at an average of 4.5ppm, not bad for an 8.0 with miles of improvement ahead

cheers mate, yeah Everton have to start doing something at some point (if Kean for example settles in and starts scoring), and their fixtures are so good

my only dilemma is that if I swap for Trossard/McGinn then I can afford Laporte instead of Dunk (on WC), what do you think?

True, but you spend 12.5m on player because he can haul massive points.

Will he score against Arsenal / Chelsea? Probably. Will he haul? Unlikely.

know what you're saying, which is why I've ditched taa+robbo on wc, at least until alisson is back and I see something better in defence, but for me I feel better having salah (got sterling/kdb/martial/siggy so not missing out on too many strong mid options, and kane is a no for me unless I see a return to from from couple of seasons ago)

            • 7 Years

just trust him more over the long term based on what I've seen over last couple of seasons, kane maybe great this week, could even be a great pick for the season but I don't trust kane yet, just a personal opinion that I feel salah will score more points than kane over the season - I haven't seen Kane or spurs back to their old selves (eriksen unsettled maybe, alli injured and lacking form for at least a year anyway, whole defence unsettled, new players to embed, so until I have more evidence I feel happier with salah, - Liverpool haven't looked fantastic so far, especially defence, but I'm more confident of Salah's returns)

I'm saying this because I expect City and Liverpool to score the most goals this season and I think both have good fixtures in attacking terms coming up. Add to that, Liverpool's two main attackers are midfielders who get CS points and an extra point for a goal so I can't see why you'd have Kane over a Pool midfielder. Kane could easily bang in a hatrick this week but I think a Liverpool midfielder is a more sensible choice especially when Everton look toothless up front

Can't get onboard with Haller...don't like

McGinn + 0.5m is better than Grealish if you're intent on Villa

No Liverpool attacker...fair enough, the defence might be wonky, the attack ain't!

Not keen on Liverpool's fixtures, unlikely to captain Mo or Mane more than once over the next 10 GWs, therefore they're too expensive for my squad.

I prefer Grealish. Fewer yellow cards, takes some set-pieces, better on BPS, will probably get similar returns but likely to get 10+ more bonus points than McGinn, who is a bit of a long-shot merchant (though a pretty good one).

Haller is a gamble I don't have to make, but as the focal point of an attack supported by Anderson, Lanzini, Fornals/Antonio/Yarmolenko, and with excellent fixtures, including 3 of the dodgiest defences in the league in his next 3, I fancy the gamble

Cheers all who helped on the aids and many posts previously. It's done.. Aubameyang, Perez, Robertson to Kane, Martial, AWB (-4) and 0.7itb.

    Hendo
    VVD Digne Montoya AWB
    Martial Sterling Salah Robinson
    Kane Wesley
    (Stek, Dendonk, Greenwood, Diop)

Still not completely sure on captain and nice amount itb to upgrade Wesley or Robinson next week. :). Possibility of also dropping Kane to an emerging 6-7mil forward and Robinson to Son, Pepe or KDB.

GL lads, how you lot set up?

Yeah if Jota could start scoring in the league rather than in Europe that’d be great.

Considering Pukki in for him this week for a hit. Will probably hold for 1 more game though.

    Moura and Wood out
    Mount and Pukki in?

    What do you think?
Moura is just too expensive if he doesn't play.
