Why has Everton’s attack been so underwhelming so far this season?

Everton’s popular attacking assets have underwhelmed Fantasy Premier League managers so far this season.

After two matches, they have scored just once, only Crystal Palace finding the net fewer times than the Toffees at this stage.

Perhaps we should not be too surprised to see Marco Silva’s men struggle in front of goal at this stage.

During their pre-season campaign, they scored just three goals in seven matches, with Richarlison (£8.0m) the only key figure missing for most of it.

One was registered against Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks, while Monaco and Mainz were the only other teams to concede against Everton.

The Toffees drew blanks in four of their summer friendlies, against FC Sion, Wigan Athletic, Sevilla and Werder Bremen.

Of those who found the back of the net, Joe Williams and Lewis Gibson are not first-team regulars, the former now a permanent Wigan player, while Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) is the only summer goal-scorer to have played in either Premier League match so far this season.

Accordingly, ahead of a Gameweek 3 trip to Aston Villa, Fantasy managers might be looking to move on their Everton attackers.

We have assessed the underlying statistics from their first two matches of the campaign to find out if the Toffees have simply been unlucky not to score more often, or if there are some tangible reasons for concern.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

    Gtg? Any changes?

    Pope (Button)
    Laporte Digne AWB Dunk (Lundstram)
    Salah Sterling Martial Mount (Cantwell)
    Kane (c) Pukki (Wickham)

Wish I could have KDB but I've gone with Kane instead

Cheers mate, not too keen on any of the 4.5s so just picked Dunk as he usually gets close to the 100 point mark.

looks ok, and its an if, but if mount doesnt work out, zinchenko starts getting rotated, watford dont improve, ur gonna want another wc. is why i dony like early wcs, too many unknowns. barnes and soy good picks.

        Mount can go to Ceballos
        Deulofeu to Jota,King, Pukki

It’s a bit earlish I admit , but in a way I like to burn the wildcard, certainly not that bothered about not having it ..I’m a fixtures planner

Mount can easily be downgraded, Zinc price bracket lots of options, easily manoeuvred

Deulofeu could come good over the next 2. I looked at it as a way to save some money over Pukki but I'm not brave enough in case he fails. Good luck, hope it works out.

    WC team gtg?

    Pope - Button
    VVD - AWB - Soyuncu - Montoya - Lundstram
    Salah - Sterling - KDB - Ceballos - Dendoncker
    Kane - Pukki - Greenwood

0.4 ITB, should I triple up on city and take Zinch over AWB? Anything else glaring?

GTG, and i’d keep AWB in your instance.

    RMT 352 WC
3 way 4.0def rotation, but what else do you see?

    Heaton, Pope
    AWB, KWP, Lundstram, Hanley, Kelly

    Kane, Pukki, 4.5

Don't mind playing Pope. 7 saves vs Arsenal. Really good keeper. Brighton have City and Spurs tough in next 6. Chelsea really don't impress me much.

Obviously it’s a great attack and you are getting lots of defence responses. Wonder if rotating keepers is more useful than putting 0.5 just to get a dunk or soyuncu ahead of kelly? Ceballos could be gold and is an easy switch to mcginn if not. Think you have a lot of nice price points from which to downgrade if they don’t perform and reinvest as appropriate.

      Ooooh brave

But really and truly ditch a keeper for a defender surely. If Pope gets injured that’s a 4 pointer but when your 4.0s drop out of contention you won’t have anyone to replace them with and you’ll need a reset.

Nice attack 🙂 doubt Ceb somewhat given Emery and one match evidence and Ozil still to be a factor.

Am I crazy to consider taking an 8 point hit by brining in Kane for vardy this week? Considering vardy has sheff and bourn as his next 2 fixtures.
Thinking better to wait 2 weeks and do it on 2 ft. Anybody think Kane will cover the points vardy will get including a minus 8 difference?
I'm pretty much sold on waiting at the moment

I don’t think this is near worth the risk, sorry. Kane could hit a hattie but he may also get 2 points, and vardy can score vs anyone. Newcastle only conceded once to arsenal after all.

That’s fair but a truly awful team still concedes more than one in that game. If Longstaff is back in they’ll be better than vs norwich and they have no incentive to look for ore than a shutout. Could be floodgates if there is an early goal but honestly wouldn’t bank on spurs not going all spursy.

      Vardy is due.
Kean looked hungry to score and was unlucky.
Haller good fixtures coming up , have Digne cover for Everton.

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus

The verb “To Bibbidi” - to vigorously and enthusiastically acknowledge the value of something

For example : I did bibbididty, he will bibbidy, they can bibbidity etc

Bobbidi is the past participle of the conjugated pronoun which in this case indicates agreement (not to be confused with the second person present and/or passive tenses!)

Boo then completes the statement by closing with a restatement of the main ideas conveyed by the opening words.

It really does quite neatly and concisely sum up the complexities and depth of the daily price change process

Same. Seriously considering bringing him back after the drop.

Midfield of Martial Siggy Kdb Mane Sterling looks tempting.

          1. SAY MY NAME
            • 6 Years
            4 years, 7 months ago

that's my mid except with salah instead of mane

there's the likes of ceballos/trossard/mcginn, but I'm not convinced by them yet (trossard looked good, but is he 100% nailed, and he has a tough fixture run for he next 6 gws) - so think i'll keep siggy, and see what happens

            1. ChuckN
              • 14 Years

That's an amazing midfield. Going without Kane/Auba up top then?

                • 6 Years
                4 years, 7 months ago

                cheers 🙂

yeah, don't think kane is back to his form from couple of seasons ago and spurs as a team seem a bit unsettled atm, they were great when alli+eriksen were feeding kane, now I'm not sure really how they set up, but fully expecting Kane to spank Newcastle and I accept this, I may revisit the Kane question in a few gws when I see more

Auba doesn't have the fixtures, and I just prefer a strong mid I suppose, overall I think it's a few more points per pound, and i'll almost exclusively be captaining sterling/salah

just hope it works out, Siggy can be a cash fund if Everton don't start scoring

                1. ChuckN
                  • 14 Years
                  4 years, 7 months ago

Yeah I think it's the biggest question for me right now. Kane vs stacking the mids. I gave Siggy 2 weeks and hasn't performed, bad timing that he is up against Villa but I'm happy to go with Mount in his place for now.

Going with Rashford over Kane can also bulk the defense substantially. I think that so many great value picks have already established themselves and there's some great value in defense now - Soy, Lundstram, Dunk, Montoya, etc etc - not sure I can justify the super expensive backline that I began with. Was my primary reason for wildcarding early.

    GTG for GW3

    Ryan (Button)
AWB / Laporte / Dunk / Coleman (Lund)
Mane / KDB / Raz / Ceballos (Cantwell)

tough! I really like both, but Cantwell his stats are impressive, I expect them to do Chelsea and Lunds isnt at home.

Barnes or a punt on Moise Kean or Haller perhaps.

Barnes has a ridiculous stat of scoring more goals in 2019 than nearly everyone bar a couple of highly priced premium players. Source MOTD last weekend. Fixtures are mixed but he's proven. I transferred him in for King. Longer term view as cheap striker potential money maker if he continues this consistency.
