Why has Everton’s attack been so underwhelming so far this season?

Everton’s popular attacking assets have underwhelmed Fantasy Premier League managers so far this season.

After two matches, they have scored just once, only Crystal Palace finding the net fewer times than the Toffees at this stage.

Perhaps we should not be too surprised to see Marco Silva’s men struggle in front of goal at this stage.

During their pre-season campaign, they scored just three goals in seven matches, with Richarlison (£8.0m) the only key figure missing for most of it.

One was registered against Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks, while Monaco and Mainz were the only other teams to concede against Everton.

The Toffees drew blanks in four of their summer friendlies, against FC Sion, Wigan Athletic, Sevilla and Werder Bremen.

Of those who found the back of the net, Joe Williams and Lewis Gibson are not first-team regulars, the former now a permanent Wigan player, while Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) is the only summer goal-scorer to have played in either Premier League match so far this season.

Accordingly, ahead of a Gameweek 3 trip to Aston Villa, Fantasy managers might be looking to move on their Everton attackers.

We have assessed the underlying statistics from their first two matches of the campaign to find out if the Toffees have simply been unlucky not to score more often, or if there are some tangible reasons for concern.

So big weekend for Vardy, Kane, Perez, Siggy, Wilson, King and even the hype around Martial. If you only have one FT and no WC it might end up being a painful hit.

Budget mids Trossard, Mcginn, Mount and Cabellos. Which of these to have going forward will become clear this weekend.

Will be very interesting to see who tops the charts from the above.

Then there will be the Mane vs Salah argument. If you do not have one of them in your team you may end up taking hits to get one of them in.

LFC defence, I am expecting hauls.

Finally, Pukki vs Chelsea defence. The goals he scored vs NEW were not tap ins. His movement is really good. He is getting many shots in too. Norwich team works around him. Perhaps a Pukki train party again this weekend.

The stats suggest Kane will do well, I am not convinced on Perez or Vardy just yet, while King and Wilson can be forgiven if they have a quiet one this week. It's their next 3 matches after that that are interesting...

For budget mids my bet goes on Mount. If Lampard continues with his attacking football he could be awesome value, just like Martial will be this year imo..

Pick one of Mane and Salah and stick. Both will score well over 200 points again this season.

Not expecting much from LFC defense this week. The article highlighting just how pourous they have become, in addition to losing Alisson has definitely made me reconsider investing in them heavily at the moment.

    Morning Guys. Ok Wc is this;

    Pope (Button)
    Digne VVD AWB (Lundo Kelly)
    Mane Sterling Martial Cantwell Mount
    Kane Pukki

Cant lose Kane for that Newcastle
game. Mount is a one week punt. Cant go any longer than this week without KDB.

Next week will do Kane / Mount to KDB / Rashford.

    What do we think?

Picking which Liverpool defender to keep on WC somewhat of a dilemma. TAA on the ceiling of scores, but the safe choice would be Robbo. Thoughts welcome.

    Played my WC (2-5-3)

    Ryan / (Button)
    Digne, Zin, Lundstram, (Kelly, Pieters)
KDB, Mane, Sterling, Martial, Douglas Luiz
    Kane, Pukki, (Wickham)

I'm thinking of swapping Ryan > Pope but not sure what to do.

SOU have played terrible and think Ryan can get a clean sheet. On the other hand, Wolves just played in Italy last night and Pope could also get a clean sheet this week.

Not sure what do about my defence though.....any thoughts???

3-5-2 with Kane, Sterling and AWB, no liverpool.

    Dear Article Author,

    I must say that...

You were 100% correct, and I am full of nonsense!

I fully retract my criticism, submit my sincere apologies, and will in future always kneel at the altar of your analytical prowess.

    Everton are broken up front.

    £13 well spent.
