Dugout Discussion

Aguero set to benefit from Jesus hamstring injury

Sergio Aguero (£12.0m) starts for the second match in a row this season as Manchester City visit Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.

His 15.6% ownership will be breathing a sigh of relief that the forward has come through another bout of ‘Pep Guardiola Roulette’ but can probably expect more game-time from him this weekend and next.

That is because Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) has been ruled out with a hamstring injury picked up in training and is not expected to be fully fit again until after the international break.

Accordingly, there is no substitute centre-forward on Manchester City’s bench today, which may mean Aguero completes 90 minutes for the first time this season, having been substituted around the 70-minute mark in each of his two starts so far.

90 minutes is not necessarily guaranteed though, as Riyad Mahrez (£8.5m) could replace Aguero and Raheem Sterling (£12.2m) could shift into the middle.

Either way, Jesus’ absence for Gameweek 4 should see Aguero get another start when Brighton come to the Etihad Stadium next Saturday, provided he comes through the trip to Bournemouth unscathed.

As already mentioned, Sterling also starts in Gameweek 3, as do the other key FPL assets.

Kevin de Bruyne (£9.6m) is, as per usual, deployed in the central midfield trio, while Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.5m) holds onto his place at left-back.

Meanwhile, there is still no place on the bench for Benjamin Mendy (£6.0m).

Bournemouth have gone with a very defensive formation, laying themselves out in a 4-5-1 system.

Callum Wilson (£7.9m) will plough a lone furrow upfront, with Ryan Fraser (£7.4m) and Josh King (£6.4m) on the flanks of midfield.

Expected to be behind the ball for most of the day is a back-four of Charlie Daniels (£4.5m), Steve Cook (£5.0m), Chris Mepham (£4.5m) and Adam Smith (£4.5m).

Probably joining them in a defensive stance this afternoon will be the central midfield trio of Philip Billing (£5.0m), Jefferson Lerma (£5.0m) and versatile stopper Nathan Aké (£5.0m).

Bournemouth XI: Ramsdale; Daniels, S Cook, Mepham, A Smith; Fraser, Billing, Aké, Lerma, J King; C Wilson.

Manchester City XI: Ederson; Zinchenko, Laporte, Otamendi, Walker; De Bruyne, D Silva, Gündogan; Sterling, Aguero, B Silva.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 3

What to say after another defeat at Anfield? Didn't expect win or clean sheet (unless you're ultra deluded Gooner) so I see it as a reality check. We can take a lot of positives out of that game and the hardest away match is already behind us. Teams will get battered here when they're fully up to speed so I'm glad it's done in August.

Pepe was easily our most dangerous player and looked electric but he really has to work on his finishing. Causing problems to the best LB & CB in the world isn't something you see every weekend. Looks like they player we've been crying out for ages.
Honestly, he and Pierre should've scored. You simply have to put those chances away! Maybe we could steal point yesterday.
Emery tinkered with formation, selection and tactics but at least he tried something different. Game plan worked for 40 minutes. Too easy for Liverpool after that point. Early 2nd half penalty completely killed the game and any hopes of a comeback. Subs were too late in my opinion. I think we'll be much stronger and defensively solid when Bellerin, Holding and Tierney come back. See you at the Emirates in May.

    Anyway, well played Reds!

You can't take any positives from this IMO.

Your manager is a mug who built a team of offensive players only to park the bus in a game that matters. Oh and he left the 2nd best player on the bench while fielding the best one in his 2nd best position (Auba is a wide forward).

I don't think Emery has a clear plan for beating deep defending teams such as Palace either.

Neutral fan here. I wish you better things.

Why would a starting goalkeeper be 4m? It doesnt make sense. Bournemouth will earn more clean sheets than several teams with 4.5 starters.

Now, this week was the last chance for Barkley and Sigurdsson.

Already planned my moves this week if Son looks sharp:
Barkley, Sigurdsson, Robertson → Lanzini, Son, Diop (-4)

I would have liked to stay with Robertson, but need to enable Son. Any comments on the transfer?

    New team would look like:
    Ryan | Button
    Alexander-Arnold | Walker | Digne | Diop | Rico
Salah | de Bruyne | Son | Martial | Lanzini
    Pukki | King | 4.5m

Thanks for the feedback. I am not sure about Diop. Basically looking for a 4.5 enabler. But don't find any. Needs to be nailed because two of my other players, Rico and Parrott (4.5 Spurs forward with very low ownership) are not having game times. Basically he would be on the bench.
