la-liga boasts rightfully of 2 of the best teams of the world. But the rest of the la-liga is indeed exceptionally weak. Compare that to the premier league where you have a top-6 against whom results can swing either way at any point of time, and you have teams like stoke and swansea, everton and even norwich who perform exceptionally well against the big teams.

It's useless looking back to 2005 as a gauge of strength of the respective leagues. Since then the Spanish sides have improved dramatically and some of the top English clubs (particularly Liverpool) no longer compete at that level.
