Is a Liverpool defensive double-up a viable option for Fantasy managers?

Liverpool’s defence has been fairly disappointing this season – at least as a collective.

Having recorded an impressive 21 clean sheets in 2018/19 (the most in a single Premier League campaign in 11 years), the Reds’ backline was always going to struggle to match last season’s output.

So far there have been just two shut-outs: only Norwich City and Tottenham Hotspur have registered fewer in the English top flight in 2019/20.

Even their second string have been getting in on the act, with Liverpool drawing 5-5 with Arsenal in a bonkers EFL Cup tie on Wednesday.

A favourable fixture swing awaits Jurgen Klopp’s side after the November international break, however, with the Reds playing Crystal Palace, Brighton and Hove Albion, Everton, Bournemouth and Watford before their blank Gameweek 18.

Fantasy managers might be tentatively considering a Liverpool defensive double-up during this period, then, but how do the Reds’ underlying statistics stack up? Have they been unlucky so far? And how are they comparing to last season’s numbers?

      I think that if he does not start, he’ll stay on the bench.

        Hey bud, i saw you were thinking of BB this week? i was thinkign the same and taking a couple hits to offset it as i don't have enough coverage in defence if Ota is benched.

          I wouldnt take multiple hits to BB mate but go with your gut. I dont like holding the chip for the doubles particularly either, prefer to invest in my XI on second WC.

            Yeah true, very much opposed to using it actually, may just take a the one hit then and swap Ota out, or keep Ota and just do Gibson/Hnaley > Rico, least then i'll have coverage for a very possible ota no show.

                He really does, may just do Hanley > Rico then for -4 as one simply plays and one doesn't, and defo always the chance Rico grabs an assist or clean sheet you agree with that move?

            Probably I will play 3-5-2 from now onwards if I do the move, hence the 3rd striker is mainly bench coverage.

            Connolly seems to be the cheapest alternative. Trossard and Maupay both back may be a worry in terms of gametime though - something to monitor.

    My colleague (ml rival)took a -12 hit last week and what did he get?

    85 points, and climbed from mid table to 2n spot in the league.

      Hits are still risks. You can make calculated ones but at the end of the day your moves have to pay off to make it worth while and that doesn't always happen.

      Personally I like hits but I always wish I was more patience,

        I didnt captain Vardy and left one of my new signings (Janmaat) points on the bench but scored 79(-12).
        Vardy(20), Dilva(9), Jimmy(2) (Janmaat 6) getting rid of doubleNorwich and Otamendi in the process...
