Jordi Gomez and Franco Di Santo stun the Emirates as Wigan’s remarkable run of form shows little sign of abating. Robin Van Persie has yet another off day, while Thomas Vermaelen picks up his sixth goal of the season as the Latics add Arsenal to their recent list of impressive scalps:

Robin Van Persie
Last night’s blank took the Dutchman’s recent tally to a single goal in the last six matches – a penalty in the 3-0 win at Wolves in Gameweek 33. While Wayne Rooney continues to grab the goals and Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez tear defences apart for City, Van Persie’s form is a major concern for his Fantasy owners. A home clash against Chelsea still looks obliging, given his hat-trick at the Bridge earlier this season but, with Arsenal facing a trip to Stoke in Gameweek 36 and the likes of Papiss Cisse and Nikica Jelavic both in strong form and afforded a pair of fixtures apiece, the idea of offloading Van Persie is a ploy many Fantasy managers are currently considering as his campaign stutters to a close. It’s a risky tactic, though; Arsenal have Norwich and West Brom in the final two Gameweeks, however, affording the Gunners skipper plenty opportunity to pick up the points and prove the doubters wrong.

Thomas Vermaelen
The Belgian’s consolation goal for the Gunners brought his recent tally to three in the last seven Gameweeks as he continues to offer strong value at a price of 7.1. Vermaelen has now notched six times in just 25 appearances this term – two more than John Terry and Leighton Baines for defenders – and, with Laurent Koscielny now back from suspension, Arsenal are likely to more solid defensively going into the final four Gameweeks, with Johan Djourou surely returning to the bench. An average of 4.9 points per game is third best for the London outfit, behind Van Persie and Theo Walcott; if Vermaelen can stay injury-free next term, he looks set for significant investment.

Jordi Gomez
A minor knock to Shaun Maloney proved a blessing in disguise for the Latics last night. Robert Martinez handed the Spaniard his first start since Gameweek 28 and he didn’t disappoint. Gomez played a pivotal role in the 2-1 in, providing an assist for Franco Di Santo’s opener before notching his side’s second as Wigan won for the fourth time in the last five Gameweeks. The Latics have also racked up victories against Liverpool, Stoke and United, highlighting just how tricky the final hurdle can be for Fantasy managers, with the idea of playing the fixtures thrown firmly out the window.

While many will be confident of handing Clint Dempsey the captain’s armband next weekend as Wigan travel to the Cottage, the recent run of wins suggests Martinez’s men will be anything but pushovers. Although a Gameweek 36 home clash against Newcastle could prove problematic, the final two games of the season pit the in-form outfit against Blackburn and Wolves, suggesting another great escape could be firmly on the cards.

            Neutral, tbh. 🙂

Much will depend on how well we execute our tactics. I'd love to see Drog & Torres feature together at some point. The partnership between Mata & Torres however could make the difference. We need goals and quite a few to stay in the hunt, thanks to our defensive injuries.

With Arteta out possibly for the season would RVP's output be significantly reduced? Can Ramsey fill the void in midfield effectively?

I think they will still score as there is creativity within the team. It's just not coming from Ramsey. Playing Ox there would be a better idea if Wenger doesn't want to drop Benayoun/Gerv/Walcott. If Ramsey plays and I have RVP (C) my heart would sink

As a frustrated Arsenal supporter searching for excuses, I'd like to say I am a little annoyed that I've not seen one post - or even comment on match reports - highlighting that we had 10 men when Wigan scored their two goals.
I AM NOT saying this is why we lost, they deserved a win, definitely, but it makes me feel better about it 😉
I've always liked Wigan, so if anyone is gonna beat Arsenal I'm happy that it is them, credit where it is due...and if Moses could finish it could, and should, have been 1-3.

So after most choosing to ditch rooney rather than rvp for a city striker (on last post)

the next question is…. Aguero or Tevez

Aguero: on pens, less likely to get booked but not as good away from home, on for golden boot?

Tevez: fresh hungry for goals, would love to put a few past united, has something to prove?

Would you rather ditch Walcott & Rooney or Valencia & RVP? And I would get Tevez.

So what do you think to this lot for the week:
    Krul
    Evans Verm Simpson
    Nasri Valencia Sigurdsson Dempsey
    RVP Rooney Yak
    (Mingolet; Walcott, Kaboul, Kelly)

    A) Subs/starters in the right order?
    B) Keep Nasri or shift to Bale/HBA?

Alright, I'm not captaining Dempsey, so I have nailed it down to 3 options..

    A. Sigurdsson (bol)
    B. Cisse (STO)
    C. Aguero (wol)

Has to be Aguero, even if he only gets 60 mins, he's playing Wolves after all. Siggy a close second, think Cisse may find it difficult against the Stoke giants

Currently have Aguero (c) and Sigurdsson (vc) too, nice.
I'm just annoyed as I had Sigurdsson (c) until about an hour before the deadline and bottled it!

All decent options, but Aguero there it has to be for me. I think that game'll be a bit of a blood bath, and if they get a couple they'll keep going to ensure the goal difference is as big as possible.

Tough to decide between Cisse and Aguero. Both in exceptionally good form, one at home the other against the worst defence....I'm tilted towards Cisse

ANYBODY THINK ROONEY OR VALENCIA MIGHT BE RESTED THIS WEEKEND. I WAS AT THE MATCH AND VALENCIA LOOKED OUT OF SORTS AND WAS STROLLING BACK AFTER COUNTER ATTACKS; AS FOR ROONEY HE LOOKED LIKE HE HAD LEAD IN HIS BOOTS...FERGIE MIGHT JUST MAKE A FEW CHANGES TO HAVE THE BEST POSSIBLE TEAM READY FOR CITY

I'm waiting to see how the 1 bonus point from Verm will impact to my rank.. 🙂

Btw, I'm looking to include one or two of Lampard, Mata, or A.Cole in my DGW team. Do you think it's too much rotation risk to get them? Their fixtures and form are tempted for investment.

first red arrow in 6 weeks 🙁 RVP really let me down

    Anyways heres current team:

    Vorm / Mignolet
    Simpson / Jevans / BAE / Cahill / Bardsley
    McClean / Dempsey / Walcott / Valencia / Sigurdsson
    Rooney / RVP / Cisse

Im thinking Rooney / Valencia > Tevez / Bale
DGW for Bale and Tevez has lots to prove.

Alternative was Cahill > hutton for Villa's DGW

Wanted to offload RVP but I've got a tenner on him @ 8/1 top scorer so I'm letting my heart rule my head a little....
