Jordi Gomez and Franco Di Santo stun the Emirates as Wigan’s remarkable run of form shows little sign of abating. Robin Van Persie has yet another off day, while Thomas Vermaelen picks up his sixth goal of the season as the Latics add Arsenal to their recent list of impressive scalps:

Robin Van Persie
Last night’s blank took the Dutchman’s recent tally to a single goal in the last six matches – a penalty in the 3-0 win at Wolves in Gameweek 33. While Wayne Rooney continues to grab the goals and Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez tear defences apart for City, Van Persie’s form is a major concern for his Fantasy owners. A home clash against Chelsea still looks obliging, given his hat-trick at the Bridge earlier this season but, with Arsenal facing a trip to Stoke in Gameweek 36 and the likes of Papiss Cisse and Nikica Jelavic both in strong form and afforded a pair of fixtures apiece, the idea of offloading Van Persie is a ploy many Fantasy managers are currently considering as his campaign stutters to a close. It’s a risky tactic, though; Arsenal have Norwich and West Brom in the final two Gameweeks, however, affording the Gunners skipper plenty opportunity to pick up the points and prove the doubters wrong.

Thomas Vermaelen
The Belgian’s consolation goal for the Gunners brought his recent tally to three in the last seven Gameweeks as he continues to offer strong value at a price of 7.1. Vermaelen has now notched six times in just 25 appearances this term – two more than John Terry and Leighton Baines for defenders – and, with Laurent Koscielny now back from suspension, Arsenal are likely to more solid defensively going into the final four Gameweeks, with Johan Djourou surely returning to the bench. An average of 4.9 points per game is third best for the London outfit, behind Van Persie and Theo Walcott; if Vermaelen can stay injury-free next term, he looks set for significant investment.

Jordi Gomez
A minor knock to Shaun Maloney proved a blessing in disguise for the Latics last night. Robert Martinez handed the Spaniard his first start since Gameweek 28 and he didn’t disappoint. Gomez played a pivotal role in the 2-1 in, providing an assist for Franco Di Santo’s opener before notching his side’s second as Wigan won for the fourth time in the last five Gameweeks. The Latics have also racked up victories against Liverpool, Stoke and United, highlighting just how tricky the final hurdle can be for Fantasy managers, with the idea of playing the fixtures thrown firmly out the window.

While many will be confident of handing Clint Dempsey the captain’s armband next weekend as Wigan travel to the Cottage, the recent run of wins suggests Martinez’s men will be anything but pushovers. Although a Gameweek 36 home clash against Newcastle could prove problematic, the final two games of the season pit the in-form outfit against Blackburn and Wolves, suggesting another great escape could be firmly on the cards.

It's a marathon not a sprint... but we're coming to the end of the marathon... so it's time to sprint, if you have the energy.. and then throw your dice in the GW38 lottery. I played Anderson last season and he scored and maybe assisted.

    Hope this helps

Is the UCL game not flawed the way it works? The latter stages just means you struggle to field a decent Xl and have to bring in players who are squad fodder and unlikely to play. Surely with only the big sides progressing the team value needs to increase to accommodate the prices. Just a thought.

Back-to-back DGWs is defo appealing, just don't know how nailed on he is or how much better he's likely to do that one of the guys I'll be losing to get him (Valencia, Siggy or Sess).

Stoke are a quandry. 2 home games vs good teams in the DW and then 2 games v relegation candidates in 37 and 38. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing to be playing relegation teams in 37 and 38.
Will a Stoke defender get any more points than Sunderland or Swansea in GW36? Possibly not, but post GW36 then yes.

    hi guys =)
i would really appreciate it if you could help me rate my team for gameweek 35..

    my team ;
    vorm(bogdan)
    rafeal,williamson,simpson(hibbert)
    siggy,valencia,bale,VDV,(walcott)
    holt,RVP,rooney

i didnt wanna buy mancity players although they are free scoring for the past two games...
i know mancity could score tonnes...but what if wolves actually turn up for the game?..and dont get a smashing as all expected?...and mancity being away..always has a questionmark...
and also what if tevez doesnt start...and jus plays the final 15min.?
thats the reason why i bought HOLT AND BALE for this week =)
i believe holt can actully score a brace at least vs blackburn who are in my books are almost sure of relegation =)
    thoughts guys? =)

villa OK against manutd..so im thinking villa might lose to bolton but still nick one..
and as for vs swansea...against the inform siggy??...thats my concern..=/

Rival is 30-odd points ahead and we both have RVP ROO CISSE

I think I can get points back over DGW but I need to make up points with captain this week hence I am bringing in Aguero or Tevez for ROO or RVP. Huge debates already I know but having seen both play now, what would advice be? I have Walcott and Valencia.

Rooney off colour but still scoring two and now at home against a tight EVE.

RvP off colour, not scored for a few games but up against and injury hit CHE where he might find some space.

in short, i'd keep them both and make my move on the ML leader during the DGW.

Another poor captain choice this week prompted me to look at my past choices and how many more points
I would've picked up if I had selected my highest scoring player each gameweek.

Of the 34 gameweeks so far my captain has been the best scoring player on only 8 occasions.

If I had selected my highest scoring player as captain each week I would have amassed a further 208 points, putting me in the top 300.

Not saying that I would ever get the right choice every time, but it certainly does make you look at the wrong choices and shows the importance of the captain pick.

Not making so many transfer hits too and I'd probably be in the top 10!!

Wolves can't get any worse than what they are. Shipped 72 goals in 34 games so far.

Poor guy is making his PL debut.(He played for Swans did he not?) I'm just imagining he will have some butterflies.

Played for Swans - kept the most clean sheets in the Championship last year - good record in Scotland too before that.
He's 31 as well so it's not like they are chucking a kid into goal.

Will it prevent Wolves from getting hammered? Probably not.

For the forwards i think you gotta pick Shearer and Henry. Both goalscorers. Bergkamp never scored more than 1 in 3 and was always more of an AM than a proper forward half the time.

Thinking he might be fit to play a match but a game 48 hours later might not be wise to play in. I just fear a Baines f*ck up with the last few horrible GW's and a potential injury going into the DGW.

The plus side is that I wouldn't need to do it next week and he's a massive differential in my league.

I know Wigan's form has been amazing recently but they might ease up a little now as they seem "safe". Surely all these performances would have taken a lot out of them.

Also Sess burned me this week as I brought him in for a hit and captained him 🙁

I brought Sess in last week aswell. Pretty poor but he is always a goal threat.

4 point hit is hardly massive so get Clint in. Wigan might start to feel the effects of all their efforts in these big games lately.

Don't get me wrong it was a good shout and we were really unlucky not to get any returns - Wolves first clean sheet in 31 games!

He just looked tired (lack of rotation) and I assume Sunderland are happy with their position at the moment...

What's your views on taking hits for the DGW? Is say a 16 point hit too much? 12 sound about right?

Changing Scholes to Vieira. Now it seems Scholes was better, but at the time both were at their peak, you'd peak Vieira over Scholes every time.

It's that time in the season. Decisions about offloading RVP or Rooney should surely be based on your individual situation. Personally, I'm top of my mini-leagues, so I don't need to take massive risks. If I wasn't, I would certainly be thinking of getting rid of RVP for differentials.
