Jordi Gomez and Franco Di Santo stun the Emirates as Wigan’s remarkable run of form shows little sign of abating. Robin Van Persie has yet another off day, while Thomas Vermaelen picks up his sixth goal of the season as the Latics add Arsenal to their recent list of impressive scalps:

Robin Van Persie
Last night’s blank took the Dutchman’s recent tally to a single goal in the last six matches – a penalty in the 3-0 win at Wolves in Gameweek 33. While Wayne Rooney continues to grab the goals and Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez tear defences apart for City, Van Persie’s form is a major concern for his Fantasy owners. A home clash against Chelsea still looks obliging, given his hat-trick at the Bridge earlier this season but, with Arsenal facing a trip to Stoke in Gameweek 36 and the likes of Papiss Cisse and Nikica Jelavic both in strong form and afforded a pair of fixtures apiece, the idea of offloading Van Persie is a ploy many Fantasy managers are currently considering as his campaign stutters to a close. It’s a risky tactic, though; Arsenal have Norwich and West Brom in the final two Gameweeks, however, affording the Gunners skipper plenty opportunity to pick up the points and prove the doubters wrong.

Thomas Vermaelen
The Belgian’s consolation goal for the Gunners brought his recent tally to three in the last seven Gameweeks as he continues to offer strong value at a price of 7.1. Vermaelen has now notched six times in just 25 appearances this term – two more than John Terry and Leighton Baines for defenders – and, with Laurent Koscielny now back from suspension, Arsenal are likely to more solid defensively going into the final four Gameweeks, with Johan Djourou surely returning to the bench. An average of 4.9 points per game is third best for the London outfit, behind Van Persie and Theo Walcott; if Vermaelen can stay injury-free next term, he looks set for significant investment.

Jordi Gomez
A minor knock to Shaun Maloney proved a blessing in disguise for the Latics last night. Robert Martinez handed the Spaniard his first start since Gameweek 28 and he didn’t disappoint. Gomez played a pivotal role in the 2-1 in, providing an assist for Franco Di Santo’s opener before notching his side’s second as Wigan won for the fourth time in the last five Gameweeks. The Latics have also racked up victories against Liverpool, Stoke and United, highlighting just how tricky the final hurdle can be for Fantasy managers, with the idea of playing the fixtures thrown firmly out the window.

While many will be confident of handing Clint Dempsey the captain’s armband next weekend as Wigan travel to the Cottage, the recent run of wins suggests Martinez’s men will be anything but pushovers. Although a Gameweek 36 home clash against Newcastle could prove problematic, the final two games of the season pit the in-form outfit against Blackburn and Wolves, suggesting another great escape could be firmly on the cards.

List any defender which you think are good picks for any (or a number of) GW(s) for GWs 35,36,37,38.

Basically, defenders where if you don't own them, they'd be good purchases - if you do own them, should be kept.

I'll start: Evans, Vermaelen, Simpson, Walker, Baines, BAE, ShawX/Huth.

Seeing the job Beausejour has done on Valencia and Walcott, i don't want Ben Arfa anymore. Wigan, Chelsea and then City.

Udinese and Di Natale have such class. Apparently many footballers in Serie A and B are going to give some of their weekly salaries into a bank in Morosinis sisters name.

Couldn't see that happen in the EPL

to be honest, a lot of charity stuff goes on behind the scenes in the EPL.

it happens weekly, monthly and annually doesn't get the attention because it's not spur of the moment front page news stuff.

Jagielka - cheaper way to get Everton defensive
Kaboul/Gallas - Depending on fitness of course one of them could be a bargain
Cahill - Again a little risky but could pay off big time

If anyone's trying to work out Champions League teams for this evening, the Bayern Munich line-up is uncertain in two positions (indicated by an asterisk):

Neuer - Lahm, Boateng, Badstuber, Alaba - Luiz Gustavo, Schweinsteiger (Tymoshchuk / Kroos)* - Robben, Müller (Kroos)*, Ribéry - Gómez

It's the defensive midfield where there are the most questions. Luiz Gustavo will play, I feel, but putting Kroos alongside him would be too attacking a pairing for a game in which Bayern can't afford to concede. Tymoshchuk would be an ultra-defensive partner for Gustavo, with Schweinsteiger somewhere in the middle but with uncertain fitness after his injury.

Schweinsteiger started at the weekend in Saturday's disappointing 0-0 draw against Mainz, and played very deep. This may not mean all that much, however, as Bayern rotated heavily having effectively ceded the Bundesliga title to Borussia Dortmund.

Upfront too, there's a choice between Müller and Kroos to play just behind Gómez. Müller started against Mainz but was fairly poor. Kroos came on as substitute for him after 79 minutes.

Was going to have a full DGW defence and potenitaly 4 DGW players in midfield, but only one forward. So far I have this, can anyone recommend one other defender and two midfielders?

    Krul
    Baines BAE ?
    Dempsey Bale
    RVP Aguero Cisse

worth a -4 to bring HBA in? (going to buy him anyway for next week as rivals have him)

    Willo Evans Sagna
    Sess Siggi Valencia Demps
    Cisse Rooney RVP

    Walcott Kelly BAE

      Not worth the hit!

Next week if you can afford him look at Pienaar - think he is better value than HBA with DGW!

Pick one to bench from my front 8:

    Valencia, Walcott, Bale, Dempsey, Siggy
    RVP, Cisse, Aguero

    Fanks!

Here we go then....in 2nd place, 41 behind the leader and 72 ahead of second!! I am contemplating going ALL IN!!

    Krul
    Komp / Evans / Caulker
    Bale / Dempsey (c)/ McClean / Siggy
    Cisse (vc)/ RVP / Wooney

    Vorm / Young / Turner / Senderos

    Wooney > Tevez (& Captain!)
Young > Valencia (4 point hit & drop McClean)
(GW 36) McClean > Pienaar (using funds freed up from the above)

1st in the league has Aguero & Valencia (but does not have Demps & Cisse). Apart from that teams are very similiar!

    Any method in this madness??

There is an argument to say yes - but after his 60 minute appearances of late (even if with an assist a game). But taking into consideration Nani's goal and SAF publically talking about his diving - cannot see him starting this week!

Its getting difficult, Real and Barca players are expensive πŸ˜‰

I'm keeping Messi/CR7/Gomez up front and crippling the rest of my team (I still have two 4 mil APOEL players to stay on the bench)

Arbeloa and Adriano are useful cheap links.

I currently don't have any Chelsea players, not ure whether to get some in, look for cheap value midfielders getting recovered balls, as they're an under performing category

How do you like the look of my GW36 team? (4 pt hit required)

    CECH
    BAINES / Vermaelen / Caulker
    VDV / BALE / DEMPSEY / Siggy
    ADEBAYOR / CISSE / JELAVIC

    Mignolet / Walcott / Turner / Evans

If feel its set up quite nicely to have a decent team setup for GW's 37&38.

I will be doing Cisse to Aguero in GW37 & Dempsey to Lampard/Mata in GW38
