Gameweek 35 offers Fantasy managers an appetite-whetting hors d’oeuvres of double Gameweeks prior to next week’s main course. Aston Villa (SUN, BOL) and Bolton (SWA, avl) are the happy beneficiaries this time out and, following on from Jonty’s look at Bolton’s Fantasy assets, we now turn our attention to the runners and riders from the Villa squad… There’s no disguising the fact that it’s been a decidedly humdrum season for Aston Villa. Alex McLeish’s unromantic ethos has won few admirers amongst a fanbase uncharitably disposed towards a man who won his spurs at the head of bitter rivals Birmingham but, with their top-flight survival likely secured for another season, the Holte End seem to have acquiesced in an uneasy ceasefire with their safety-conscious boss. Long term injuries to Darren Bent and Richard Dunne haven’t helped the Villa cause and, with marquee signing Charles N’Zogbia failing to blossom within the dogmatic confines of a McLeish midfield, the flaccid forays of Villa’s vanguard have too often failed to compensate for the frailties of their depleted defence. Early-season spurts of productivity from Gabby Agbonlahor and Darren Bent aside, there hasn’t been much for Fantasy managers to get excited about. McLeish’s reputation for defensive solidity has been coyly reluctant to exhibit itself in claret and blue for much of the campaign but, with Sunderland goalless in their last three games, and Bolton goalless in their last two, a rare clean sheet is not beyond the realms of possibility over the course of the Gameweek. In attack there are grounds for optimism too; Bolton haven’t recorded a clean sheet on the road since Gameweek 1 and have shipped seven goals in their last three games, two of those coming against hapless Wolves. Sunderland have been difficult to break down at home, boasting six clean sheets at the Stadium of Light in 2012, but they remain prone to catastrophe on the road – shipping four goals away to both Everton and West Brom in recent weeks. James Collins has strolled over the 100 point mark for the last two seasons, and is on course to repeat the feat despite the absence of his regular accomplice Richard Dunne. A total of six goals in almost three seasons at Villa Park somewhat belies the efficacy of his aerial threat and, with Dunne still sidelined, he’ll be the prime target from corners and indirect free kicks. Priced at 5.3 he can’t be described as cheap, but for your money you get guaranteed starts, goal threat, and often enough blocks and clearances to rack up a decent PPI, as his 12 bonus points this season attest. The alternative option for those looking for assured defensive starts is stopper Shay Given. Priced at 4.7, he weighs in at the cheaper end of the goalkeeping spectrum, and were it not for a six-week absence through injury, he would likely be inside the top ten for save points. Unglamourous at the best of times, goalkeeper transfers are more unfashionable still at the business end of the season, but Given presents a viable option. Injuries and illness have condemned Carlos Cuellar to a frustratingly stop-start season. Returning to the fold in February he proved himself a more than able deputy for Dunne in the centre of defence, racking up two clean sheets, an assist, and a jaw- dropping eight bonus points in just three Gameweeks. Promptly succumbing to yet another injury, 4.8 priced Cuellar hasn’t featured in Villa’s last four games and, although he merely warmed the bench for their ill-fated trip to Old Trafford last weekend, his manager revealed earlier today that the Spaniard is now fully fit and pushing for a first-team start. Recalled from a loan spell at Leeds in January, Eric Lichaj has been deputising at fullback through Villa’s recent spate of injuries. Announcing his return to the starting lineup in style, Lichaj bagged a goal and an assist against Chelsea on March 31st, and has played every minute of every game since. With question marks around Stephen Warnock’s fitness, and the possibility that McLeish will use Warnock at left midfield if available, it looks likely that Lichaj will continue to feature at left back for the time being. Priced at 4.0, Lichaj could present an interesting makeweight option for Fantasy managers looking to capitalise on Villa’s double whilst freeing up funds in preparation for the Gameweek 36. Surplus to requirements following the big money takeover of Manchester City, Stephen Ireland headed south in search of first team football at Aston Villa in the summer of 2010, littering the M6 with sour grapes upon his unhappy departure. Quickly falling out of favour with then-manager Gerard Houllier, an injury-ravaged loan spell at Newcastle and a bench warming brief in the early days of McLeish’s tenure must have come as a bitter disappointment to a player who racked up a massive 160 FPL points in the 2008/09 season. With injuries forcing McLeish’s hand in recent months, Ireland has been given a new lease of life at the forward tip of a make-do-and-mend midfield. Priced at 5.2 and boasting just one assist since January, it isn’t surprising that Ireland’s ownership is under 1%, but he has shown in the past that he is capable of big returns when let off the leash, and may attract investment from those with a taste for high stakes. Gabby Agbonlahor’s season has rather fizzled out after an explosive start that saw him riding high on 67 points after Gameweek 11. With no goals or assists in 2012 it is a testament to Villa’s lacklustre campaign that he is still comfortably their top FPL points scorer. With the exception of an injury hit 2010/11 season, Agbonlahor has a remarkably consistent FPL record – registering between 144 and 158 points every season since FPL began. Currently on 106 points, he’s got a bit of catching up to do if he plans on maintaining that record. With fit strikers who aren’t Emile Heskey thin on the ground at Villa Park, long time understudy and serial Watford loanee Andreas Weimann has been thrown in at the deep end as the campaign enters its final straight. Scoring the winner in a 20 minute sub appearance against Fulham on March 10, Weimann has now started three of the last four – picking up three bonus points for his peach of goal against Stoke, and battling manfully, if fruitlessly, against Chelsea and United. McLeish is clearly enamoured with the young Austrian and, with a starting berth seemingly secure for the immediate future, he represents an interesting budget option at 5.0. Charles N’Zogbia’s summer move hasn’t particularly panned out the way McLeish, or Fantasy managers, had hoped for. A potent source of Fantasy points over the previous couple of seasons, the Frenchman flourished at the DW under the guidance of Roberto Martinez but he’s failed to spark for the Villians, with McLeish somewhat critical of his negligible work-rate. While injuries have scuppered the second half of his season – N’Zogbia has started just six times since Gameweek 19 – it’s worth noting that he has returned attacking points in four of those first-team appearances; a hint that he has, perhaps, managed to adapt to McLeish’s more stringent style of play. N’Zogbia has been afforded a brief couple of sub appearances in the last two Gameweeks as he works his way back from a knee injury and, with his manager admitting the player is now fully fit, the 6.6 priced winger may have a more prominent say in the final few Gameweeks of the season as McLeish attempts to engineer a scramble to safety and appease the embittered Villa fans.

Rival has him and I was hoping for stress and confusion, maybe even a little panic. 🙂Open Controls
Stalkers and endless Tevez debates? I'll come back later when everyone has calmed the feck down 😀
Open Controlsok folks, given it looks like no Baines for DGW, I think I will get kaboul (if fit for Spurs defence coverage) and get Howard as my keeper.
I will have 10.6 to spend on a mid if I dump Sess or 7.9 if I dump McClean, so do I dump Sess for VdV or McClean for Pienaar.
I have Bale, but no Everton coverage in attack.Open Controlsyeah, I'd want him back last day and I don't trust Ade. Losing him would mean keeping Sess and McClean, which I think is too much (only got Sess in for Wolves). I'd be more inclined to dump Sess as McClean is more benchable.
It;s just a question of who to pick from the options, Pienaar or VdV look best, but I have Bale.Open Controls
Anyone considering gambling and losing both RVP and Rooney over the next couple weeks?
Thinking about RVP > Aguero this week, Rooney > Ade next.Open ControlsI did Rooney>Aguero this week. And if RVP doesn't do anything agaisnt Chelsea I will be doing this for GW 36: RVP>Adebayor/Jelavic

Gambling is necessaryOpen ControlsTempted to ship out Rooney for Tevez/Aguero, but will leave RVP in all season. Bagged three against Chelsea last time and the last two games for ARS look too good to get rid of now.
Whereas Rooney's next two see him face Everton who he hasn't scored against since 2007 & then away to Man City.Open Controls
It would be interesting if there was a piece on here for the last few weeks discussing which teams look likely to play strong teams and play 100% due to still having something to play for and which teams look likely to take their foot off the gas and give fringe players a chance due to having nothing to play for and/or being in other competitions.
Here's what I've gathered so far. Feel free to disagree with me or add further comment/insight:
High danger
Chelsea will surely be concentrating on the CL as a priority. Along with the cup, this is causing huge fixture congestion problems, surely leading to rotation. 4th spot might be in the bag for Newcastle/Spurs by the time we get to GW37/38 so I'm staying away from Chelsea players.
Norwich - No surprise, as Lambert chops and changes his team on a weekly bases at the best of times. Stay away in my opinion.
Sunderland - I'm not too sure about this, but I'd expect some rotation to be a big feature for the Sunderland's remaining games. I imagine O'Neill will be keen to give games to much of his squad. Injury has been a problem this season for them and I can't see players who aren't 100% being risked.
West Brom - Hodgson has been open about his intent to rotate. Surely their assets aren't worth the risk given that they have little to play for other than their league position.
Wolves - Not that I imagine many FPL players will be courting any of Wolves' assets! Unsurprisingly, I expect them to be relegated before GW38 and I imagine younger players and players who are likely to show commitment regardless of relegation will get the game-time.
Medium danger
Arsenal - 3rd spot won't be secure until at least GW37. If they secure it before then, I can see rotation being rife for the last 2 games, which will annoyingly be two of their easiest. RVP in particular has had a long and relatively injury free season so far so I can see Wenger wanting to protect him.
Man City - Who knows what Mancini will do? He's always been unpredictable with his team selections. If they stay in the title race until the end then I doubt we will see too much rotation as he looks to get some consistency and momentum going. If they don't win their next 2 games then it's fair to say they will move to the high risk category.
Villa - They could be safe if they pick up a couple of results over the next couple of weeks, particularly vs. Bolton. I suppose you wouldn't be too interested in their players past the DGW regardless.
Bolton - Same position as Blackburn, except I imagine Coyle will use his squad since they have quite a few fixtures piling up and they don't seem to have many in-form, undropable players.
Fulham - I'm not sure how to call this one. Mid-table with nothing left to play for but the cash that comes with finishing higher in the league, it's possible some players could be rested/rotated after a long season.
Liverpool - With the FA cup final on the horizon, there's always the chance of players being rested. Liverpool have enough experience players in their squad to do so and they might have little to play for in GW37-38 except for pride.
Stoke - I can see Pulis giving fringe players a chance, although I still expect them to give 100%. The double GW could be a worry, especially given his rotation policy for Thursday/Sunday games this season. Sorensen looks likely to pick up a few games too after Pulis' comments earlier in the week.
Swansea - Rodgers' team have the luxury of safety and with nothing to play for, I imagine he will give some fringe players more of a chance. I could be wrong so I'm sitting on the fence here.
Spurs - I see 'Arry making a lot of changes to his team over the rest of the season, although I don't think this will be excessive. The likes of Defoe and Rose, Saha will probably get more game time over the DGW. They still have a lot to play for, however, and I think he won't make changes just for the sake of it.
Low danger
Blackburn - I imagine they'll be fighting till the end and will play the best team possible and give 100% every week.
Everton - They are fighting with Liverpool for 7th place (and therefore possibly Europa League?). I don't think Moyes will let his players take it easy and I don't see there being too much rotation just for the sake of giving fringe players a chance, with the exception of the last GW perhaps.
Man United - Can't see Fergie rotating anyone unless the title is wrapped up before the end of the season, which I don't see being the case. They could move into the medium/high danger category if they get a result at the Etihad. United players look safe in your team until further notice.
Newcastle - In form with a lot to play for, I don't see Pardew rotating/resting players.
QPR - As far as I can tell, QPR will be fighting till the end and Hughes will want to keep up the momentum. I see little risk of rotation.
Wigan - I doubt Martinez will want to make many changes for as long as Wigan aren't safe and for as long as their good form lasts.Open ControlsGreat article Tinkerman! 😀
Open ControlsSome thoughts
1) Surely Man City and Man Utd would be in the same group (ie play for everything until title is settled)
2) For the same reason, surely Bolton (and to lesser extent Villa) are in the same group as Wigan and Blackburn with priority on safety (ie low risk)
3) Tottenham -> Low risk while Champions League slot still up for grabs
4) Why are Fulham, Swansea, Stoke in medium risk - no real difference to WBA, Sunderland and Norwich.Open ControlsAll fair points but bare in mind this is just my opinion based on what I've heard/read recently and what I've gathered from the way teams have been playing.
I've tried to take into account managers who like to rotate anyway or aren't afraid to make changes. Perhaps the 3 categories simplify it somewhat.
Bolton are medium risk in my opinion because Coyle doesn't seem to know his best 11 and their best assets are arguable prone to rotation (e.g. Ryo, Metrov).
Also, WBA, Sunderland and Norwich have shown/made it clear that they will rotate/take it easy, whereas Fulham, Swansea and Stoke haven't been as clear.Open Controls
I think with City and Arsenal - to a certain extent even if they drop out of the title race / clinch 3rd respectively - they will still play strong sides to the end. For both NOT having pushed Utd all the way will constitute a 'disappointment' of sorts - and both will be looking to end on a high in the eyes of the media, the fans - and for the players. I would expect a bit of rotation but big performances even with nothing to play for from those two.
Same could be said of Chelsea - but for the Cups.Open ControlsYeah I agree with you about City and Arsenal, although RVP could be protected, especially with Euro 2012 coming up. Plus, Mancini's team selections have been frustrating to date to say the least.
Open Controls
Everton can't qualify for the Europa league by finsihing 7th, I don't think. But I still agree that they will try to win as many games as possible, mainly becuase it's Moyes's only hope of appeasing the fanbase by finsihing above Liverpool, even though it actually means nothing anyway.
Open ControlsI'd hoped for a bit of a better response to be honest, perhaps with some people discussing individual players (e.g. RVP being protected, Ade not playing as much as we would hope due to Defoe and Saha pushing for starts etc.)

Hey guys who's Blackburn's captain at the moment?
Open ControlsHow do you expect the City attach to line-up this week? Scouts have gone:
Silva Barry Yaya Nasri
Tevez Aguero
Or do we expect:
De Jong Yaya Barry
Silva Tevez
Aguero
Milner hasn't started for a couple of games (notably the ones where they have gone mental with goals mind you) and could be due a run out as well.Open Controls-------Yaya Barry------

They call it the "Fluid Four" Formation.Open ControlsI don't know why I bought Nasri. I hate owning players like him - I had Welbeck earlier in the season and even when he scored points he's a nightmare because you are worried every game if they will start.

Kaboul, Santon, Caulker

-------------------------
5. Newcastle
-------------------------
6. Chelsea (could win champions league/FA Cup)
7. Everton
8. Liverpool (already qualified/could also win FA Cup)
9. Sunderland
10. FulhamOpen Controlsif Chelsea win the cup, Everton will get it, assuming Chelsea win the CL. If Liverpool win the cup, Chelsea will get it, unless they win the CL. Basically the team that finishes 6th will get that place if Pool win it. If it's Chelsea that slot is theirs unless they are in the CL.
Open ControlsPool already qualify via the Carling Cup.
Chelsea therefore automatically qualify for being in the FA Cup final.
If Chelsea get 4th, then 5th and 6th will qualify (so Newcastle and Spurs)
If Newcastle or Spurs get 4th then the other one wil qualify
Everton will get squat
I think.Open Controls

Okay have a dilemma on who to bench, still not convinced:
Valencia - With Baines confirmed injured for the United game, the LB(ev)/ RW(united) will be weakened and exposed possibly, meaning that Valencia could have more crosses and possibly shots attempted. Seems foolish to bench him at home too, but there could be a risk of him being early subbed for Nani to rest him for the City game and keep him fresh.
Walcott - A home game against Chelsea could see Walcott prosper in terms of goals and assists. Chelsea's defensive woes increase with Luiz being ruled out and Ivanovich being handed a ban. This could see Bosingwa coming in, leaving Cahill, Terry and Cole the other 3. However if Cole plays the full game it seems Walcott may have trouble against him. But he too might be subbed early for Bertrand, with the CL second leg in mind, leaving the left flank exposed for Walcott. Walcott's last fixture saw him score in a 5-3 victory over Chelsea at the bridge, and could be set to replicate that result or even add with assists to RVP. With home advantage it would also seem foolish to bench him.
Sessegnon - An away trip to Aston Villa could be profitable or disastrous depending on many factors. Both teams have hit a poor patch of form and could give it 100%. With Sessegnon still playing in a forward position, we could be set to see him produce assists or goals if Villa's notorious defence remains. Sunderland's away form hasn't been particularly good, but we saw Sessegnon's performance against City in the 3-3 match at the Etihad. Sessegnon would be the logical choice to bench but somehow he could end up taunting me with a large haul that probably won't come on since the rest of my players are certain to get game time.Open ControlsI'd bench Sess out of those 3.
Open ControlsBENCH SESS. You're welcome at the end of the GW.
Open ControlsLuiz's absence strengthens the Chelsea defense not weakens it.
Open ControlsYou have obviously not watched Luiz's latest performances
Open ControlsDebatable but still puts more pressure on the other 3 defenders. They can't afford an injury at the back with the second leg of the CL approaching and may be inclined to swap or sub defenders early. Even RDM said that new faces could be set to start, although he does probably mean in the midfield area. But I see your point too
Open ControlsThis is like Lucas a year ago. If you don't rate Luiz then I don't respect your opinion.
Open Controls
Toughie for sure but it's Sess for me. I would fall back on old fashioned quality of side their playing in and Home advantage for the former two. Plus the 'O'Neil Effect' or indeed any other Effect at the Stadium of light usually lasts for about 48 hours before everyone kicks back and enjoys resting on their laurels of firmly established mediocrity 🙂
Open ControlsSess. Although yes I do agree he could have a haul still.
Open ControlsI would play Valencia, Sess seems to have gone off the boil, with the rest of Sunderland. Walcott blow hot blow cold, you know if you bench him he'll have a stormer and two if you play him. 🙂
Open ControlsOkay I think I will go with Sess on the bench as first sub. Just hope it doesn't bite me..
Open ControlsI think that Nani will start this weekend, replacing Young. There are 7 days between games so more than enough time for rest before City.
Open Controls
Anybody think dzeko may get a start vs wolves? We are talking about Mancini here, nothing is quite as logical. He could under estimate wolves and leave one of tevez/aguero out. Also if city do start both aguero and tevez, he may sub one off at HT if city are cruising. Unlikely to happen given the nature of the title race but hey why not? 🙂
Open ControlsIm not persuading anyone to buy dzeko by the way.

Open ControlsAs mentioned earlier, Raúl will leave Schalke 04 at the end of the season after only being offered a one-year contract. Unfortunately, it looks like he'll be following the money and heading eastwards: "My future will NOT be in Europe. My agent and I will go through offers. Won't be as strong a league as the ones here".
Can't blame him at the age of 34, I guess, but it would have been nice to see him challenging for major honours once more at club level.Open Controls
