Captain Sensible

Which Liverpool player is the best FPL captain for Double Gameweek 24?

Liverpool are the main focus of the Double Gameweek 24 captaincy debate as their promising assets have two relatively appealing fixtures to play in.

However, selecting someone to trust the armband with has been a difficult decision for many of us.

To help decipher the puzzle, we’ve been running the rule over all the candidates ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, using their underlying data as well as the defensive data of their upcoming opposition.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those signed up via either a season-long, monthly or discounted package can access it in full.

Captain Poll

Following his toplessly-celebrated goal against Manchester United, Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) is the front-runner in the Double Gameweek 24 captain poll.

So far, he has accrued the support of 42.5% of the voters, 17% more than his price-mate Sadio Mané (£12.4m), who sits on 25.5%.

The Senegalese international’s cause may have taken a hit after back-to-back blanks against Spurs and Manchester United, matches in which Salah registered an assist and a goal.

Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) comes in as the best-of-the-rest having earned the support of 15.6%.

The right-back has not blanked since Gameweek 16, registering either a clean sheet, an assist or a goal in every match since then, averaging 10 points per game in that time.

Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) is further below the main pack, backed by just 4% of the voters.

That may be of great encouragement to those considering the Brazilian, who has been involved in more away league goals than any Liverpool player this season (eight).

Jack Grealish (£6.6m) is the most popular single Gameweek player so far, earning 2.4% of the votes ahead of Aston Villa’s meeting with Watford on Tuesday night.

Five goals and one assist in the last two matches for Sergio Aguero (£11.9m) has not convinced many to look past Liverpool for Double Gameweek 24.

The Manchester City man, who faces Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, has been selected as the best captain option by just 1.5%.

Kevin de Bruyne (£10.7m) and Divock Origi (£5.2m) are the only other options on more than 1%.

Meanwhile, only 0.6% have the voters have gone for Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) as the best captain candidate despite the Double Gameweek on offer for the left-back.

    Who to triple captain...

    Mane or salah?

Everyone in my money league will have salah and I am currently just 15 points off top. Worth taking the risk for mane or stay safe with salah??

Salah - if every lone in you ml will have him on it then it would be devastating if he got a big haul and you didn't

I'm the opposite, everyone likely to captain Mane, i'm going Salah

      I'll just keep reposting this:

They're both exceptional world-beaters. Each of them is just as likely to get 6 points as they are likely to get 20. Only hindsight will prove anybody right or wrong. But the good thing is that you can keep both until GW34 or when the league is won and Klopp maybe starts rotating (Minamino punt then?)

So all this overthinking comes down to two matches you simply cannot predict... Which I don't really see the point in stressing over

I’m over 120 behind my leader, who I’m expecting to TC mane this week

Have been deliberating Giving TAA the armband for this reason as a punt to catch up, but it might be throwing it away too soon?

    Any help appreciated!

Punting I’d wait for a second DGW where a prime attacker had one plum fixture.

Evident risk of rotation later but think a haul then would be more powerful than TAA who’d need a Leicester to really strike. I assume here that ML leader has TAA anyway.

Was looking forward to finally get rid of Pope, but might just have to keep for another week with Richarlison injured.

    Pope
    TAA - Soyuncu - Rico
Salah (TC) - Mane - Cantwell - Maddison
    Vardy - Maupay - DCL

    Bench: Stekelenburg, Richarlison, Lundstram, Reid.

    1FT and 1.9M ITB.

    I see two alternatives:
A: Cantwell to Grealish so I can keep Richarlison for the next two fixtures (although will give me headache, but could save me in case of rotation?)
B: Straight swap with Rich to Grealish. (Martial, Son etc also an option if Rich goes)

    Thoughts?

I have Mane, TAA and Robbo, currently on TAA(c) but one thing i have only just noticed is that Robbo has only blanked on 1 away game this season (GW2 - SOT) where as TAA has blanked on 4.

So i am thinking as a deferential to go with Robbo captain, with Milner out injured as well, less rotation in his position. Its a brave choice but could push me up the ranks.

Interesting stats I've just worked out.
If you say look at goal being a point and an assist being a point ie returns
    Salah 16
    Mane 19
    TAA 13
But if you add clean sheets as a point for a defender and add .25 points onto the midfielder it's:
    Salah 18
    Mane 21
    TAA 21

And interestingly TAA and Mane have a pretty even spread of Home and Away points. Salah has a strong Home bias.

As both fixtures are away that leaves Mane and TAA.

TAA capt for me. And I'm going to play my TC just for the hell of it.
