Are matches against the ‘big six’ to be feared in FPL?

Everton sit near the bottom of our Season Ticker over the next seven Gameweeks, with the Toffees taking on all but one of the traditional ‘big six’ and Leicester City over the next two months.

Last week we wrote about how owners of Richarlison (£8.1m) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6.1m) may be at a ‘form versus fixtures’ crossroads as we approach Gameweek 27, given the attacking returns those two players have been racking up since Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival.

The blobs of red, either on our Season Ticker or on Fantasy Premier League’s own Fixture Difficulty Rating scale, are off-putting to the eye but are Everton’s fixtures really that bad and are the ‘big six’ really to be feared?

We delve into our Members’ Area data to pose those questions in the article below.

We will also include Leicester in this study, given the difficulty rating applied to the Foxes on both FPL and our own site.

Only subscribers can read on but those wishing to sign up to our site can do so via this link, with monthly and half-season memberships available for £2.99 and £9.99 respectively.

    Developments for fpl next season:

    1) Transfers roll on to a maximum of 3, instead of 2.

    2) Double Captain chip to replace Triple Captain (vice also scores double in given gameweek).

What's the point of a maximum of 2 anyway? Why not just keep rolling indefinitely?

Can see the logic in this but it would favour those who got lucky with their initial GW picks .

Or similar to Telegraph and you get say 38 transfers for the season up front and when they run out you take hits. not sure if I like it though!

3 transfer rolls just rewards people who are lucky. When you need to make transfers you are already at a disadvantage

is that not the whole point of the game? picking players that score well..

Yes but why should you get further rewarded with more free transfers after already being rewarded with points? No point widening the gap.

Why does it reward people who are lucky or is this just your general negativity again ?
Viewed the other way it rewards people who select their players well.

You don't even have to score well to save a transfer. I'm ranked well below 500k yet there have been numerous occasions I saved (or even burned) a transfer.

You literally said the same thing above... When I say "lucky" I mean people come out on the positive side of variance. If you happen to pick the players who do well at the start of the season you are lucky. You are already rewarded by their points and form. Further rewarding you by giving you more free transfers is unnecessary.

I like the sound of 2.

Also feel the free hits should be changed. Two transfers max isn't that much of an advantage and your hand can often be forced to make a change prematurely, so as to facilitate later moves an avoid a hit.

3 free transfers would enable more impactfull strategy (mini wildcard) but -- you could argue -- such a change would only suffer from the same drawback as the current setup.

Not keen on unlimited rolling as it essentially means you can stockpile transfers during steady periods and only widens the gap between the haves and the have nots.

Perfect 11 chip. Plays your best 11 players in a valid formation instead of free hit.
Price changes, once or twice a week, at specific times that are well publicised. Also, you are certain who moves in price before the change happens.
Price loss on a player is treated in the same way price increases if you sell them

Lovely suggestions Kaptain Kun I support them both.

I would also like to have 2pts earnt for penalty won no matter if the goal is scored or the same man is taking it it will be great if your captain is the penalty scorer and he was fouled too.

disagree on VC that is for backup to C, should only get one player who doubles up on points as that is the challenge to get it right!

Like the second one. I think it would increase the value as well as the impact it could have in climbing the rankings.

A change I'd like to see is to have the highest scoring bench player get subbed in rather than the bench priority system.
Providing it doesn't create an illegal formation, that would remain the same.

It should make having bench players that play more valuable and cause us to change how we distribute our funds.

      Thoughts?

3 transfers seems okay I guess, but don't feel it would really improve things much.

Double captain seems fine but not really sure it improves the game overall much.

I'd still prefer to see all chips given twice - before Jan and after.

So we can use some of them in single gameweeks instead of mostly waiting on double gameweeks. I know they don't HAVE to be used in a double but mostly that's what happens.

    Henderson
    TAA VVD Dunk
    Salah(c) KDB Grealish Traore
    Vardy Ings DCL

    McGovern Lundstram Soyuncu Dendoncker

    1 FT, 3.9 ITB

    Plan has always bee:

    DCL >> Jimenez

(due to the fixture swing and Vardys getting good from GW28)

If I use my FT on that, is anything else worth a -4 hit this week??

And would you start Dunk (shu) or Lundstram (BHA)??

I agree somewhat although City will surely strengthen .
Big summer for Chelsea re transfer investment - there is potential.
Man U & Arsenal a long way behind.
Spurs probably best of thede but again signings needed.

Not for me. They are where the are due to the failings of other clubs and an excellent manager - rather similar to when Dyche got Burnley into the Europa League. They will find their natural level next session in my opinion ( I live in Sheffield ) unless they get more creativity.

        0itb. Yeah same idea I think. Need to decide whether to keep Kun or Mahrez or drop both. Some ideas include;

        A. Kun+Greenwood >> Jimenez+Ings
        B. Kun+Mahrez >> Jimenez+Mané
        C. Kun+Greenwood+Aurier >> Jimenez+Ings+VVD (-4)
        D. Kun+Greenwood+Mahrez >> Jimenez+Ings+Son (-4)

    A) Aguero + Grealish —> DCL/Wood + Mane

Man City could potentially play a weakened side against Leicester with only 3 days between games.

Vardy haul on the cards I reckon.

        1. Tinkermania
          • 4 Years

Or even weakened side against West Ham. Or even weakened side in both.

            • 7 Years

Possibly somewhat weakened in both yes, but I think most in here forget, that those players will need some gametime and some positive results on the field to be able to win against City.

You can't go 24 days from losing 0-2 against Spurs, having a winter break, and then playing Real Madrid.
Many of the offensive players starting against Real Madrid in 2 weeks will play around 150 minutes combined vs. West Ham and Leicester if you ask me (90 against WH and 60 against Leicester). Most of the defending players will probably play all 180.

            1. Fantasy Gold
              • 9 Years
              4 years, 1 month ago

I’d say it’s more likely it’ll be full strength against West Ham then a slightly weakened team against Leicester.

Just my guess but who really knows with the bald fraud.

            2. Salarrivederci
              • 7 Years

But yes. Ofc there will be rotation and rests for some, but Pep will not start 18-20 different players against West Ham and City.

5 changes to next game will mean 16 different starters. Easily.

I know what you're trying to get at with the pointed comment, but I promise you there's literally nothing I value above the community. I guess you're not worried about what I think though!

That's your implication and not the case. I admit that I do have issues with some aspects of the community as such but surely as a mod you must have some influence ? Otherwise it totally denegrates that role.

Good man. There always is the ultimate dilemma though. Site owners quite rightly want profit ( and contrary to others I would never criticise Mark for this and indeed I urged him to sell ) but in order to retain those profits people such as yourself who give up a lot of time should be rewarded accordingly. I don't think that this is the case and as a business model this is where ultimately it will fall down. Just my opinion but I wouldn't give up shite loads of personal time for f all to fill someone else's boots.

I don't see the benefit of anyone let alone mods having the option to downvote. It only incites a negative reaction from the poster. If a post breaches the rules, it can be deleted. No need for posts to become a popularity contest, it feels very Facebook-like.

Think this is being made into a much bigger thing than it is.

There are some scenarios where it would be useful for mods to use it - for example if someone goes on an upvote spree to basically spam. They can be "reset" by being downvoted to counter balance it.

But ultimately Mr Rotation is right - if it's ever used it's almost always an accident. Usually there's a scramble to get another mod to upvote it because it wasn't done on purpose.

It's been available for years and hasn't caused any issues up until this point really, so it's not doing any harm.

Up vote spamming results in or at least used to result into a sin bin of up voting for X amount of time - I think that's more appropriate as it eradicates accidental down votes from mods. We live in a social frenzy world where numbers are everything, so I'm sure you understand why posters get rubbed up the wrong way for having a -1 next to a fairly normal comment.

No need to go round in circles on this - you can see my comment above.

Feels like a mountain out of a molehill this one.

That's not going round in circles it's a logical question in response to a logical reply , the implication from which is that it isn't necessary.

No reply then. I'll draw my own conclusions

I upvote everyone who takes the time to respond and comment on my votes. It's to acknowledge and show appreciation for them doing this, a bit like liking something on Facebook or favouriting something on Twitter. To call it spam is disingenuous.

I wrote a well received community article this week. I upvoted everyone who took the time to read it and post a comment. I upvoted them because I was grateful. Mods shouldn't have the power to take that away.

Change the algorithm that pushes upvoted posts up the page. Don't penalise people who are showing gratitude to people who take the time to comment on your FPL thoughts.

    Thoughts on these guys

    A) Holgate to Gomez - Free
    B) Holgate + Snodgrass to VVD + Hayden -4pts

A was my original plan but B could be better points value

    Cheers
