Premier League clubs set to address plans for the remainder of 2019/20

Fantasy managers may learn more about how the remainder of the 2019/20 season will unfold on Thursday.

The Premier League are set to hold a video conference involving all 20 top-flight clubs to discuss how the current campaign could proceed once the coronavirus outbreak has eased – which could be some time away yet, of course.

The meeting is scheduled to get underway at 10:30am, and we’ll bring you the headline updates as and when we get them.

The parties involved are expected to reiterate their commitment to completing the current season, echoing the sentiments from UEFA’s meeting on Tuesday.

The decision to postpone this year’s European Championship will aid efforts to fulfil any outstanding fixtures, given that the summer months could be used to accommodate the backlog.

At present, all top-flight matches are postponed until at least Saturday 4 April because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

That date will surely be put back further given how rapidly the crisis has escalated over the last week – this time last Thursday, remember, Gameweek 30 was still set to go ahead as planned.

With the UK government currently advising against mass gatherings, efforts to finish the season may hinge on the suggestion of staging matches behind closed doors.

Whether much will be set in stone at Thursday’s meeting is open to debate, given the uncertainty that plagues the country at present.

How Fantasy Premier League proceed from Gameweek 32 onwards may be determined by the outcome of the video conference, with the game in limbo at present.

Gameweek 31 is poised to go ahead as scheduled, with the deadline set at 19:00 GMT on Friday.

No Premier League fixtures will take place, of course, but the usual rules surrounding free transfer allocation, points hits and head-to-head scores will apply.

We are deprived of live sport at the moment but imagine what it's going to be like in the late summer and autumn months. We are likely to have the end of the domestic and European football seasons, the Olympic Games, the F1 season, golf and tennis majors, the Ryder Cup, test matches, Twenty20 World Cup, the end of the current rugby season and autumn rugby internationals, World Snooker Championship, Grand National etc crammed into 3 or 4 months. We will be spoilt for choice and Sky, BT etc will be racking it in again.

If it is mega GW 38 is Aguero worth owning? I have him and not sure whether to sell him. The initial plan was yes, now reconsidering.

If things continue like that City will have 4/5 games in GW 38 or so.

    Please advise.

Unless he is going down in price then I'd leave him in the team

We simply don't have enough info on what is happening to make an informed choice with who to transfer in and out

Who here is going to burn transfers?

I'm in a paid mini league joint on points with #8, I'm #9

I have 27 transfers and he has 25, so I need him to make 3 transfers so I can overtake him.

I doubt the FPL season is going to finish whatever happens to the actual premier League games, so my current plan is to burn every transfer and hope this other player uses his

Won't using a transfer cost you rank as number of transfers is effectively "goal difference"?

      1. fusen
        • 12 Years
        4 years, 10 days ago

Yes it will, see my post above this.

People using transfers are simply pushing themselves further down the overall rank compared to the other players who don't use any transfers.

Considering it seems unlikely the season will finish, I'm not going to use transfers.

I was rough around the edges back then, how did i survive at all?

I feel bad reading that now especially with Daniel Sturridge being plagued with injury after that and throughout his career.Bad thing to say really.I often say stupid things like that though. It is a grudging admiration of Daniel the way i mean to say it but not everyone gets that i suppose.

It just shows how scared i was of not owning Daniel at the time as himself and Suarez were a very potent partnership.

Unfortunately economics may be a much (much) bigger determinant than fairness or equity etc

Worst case, I think there may not be sufficient time in the months between summer 2020 & summer 2021 to do get both this season & next season completed

And in a scenario where there is a choice between 9 games of TV revenue from completing this season - versus 38 games of revenue from completing next season... we unfortunately know where the incentives of the money-driven power brokers of the premier league will lay

Considering that it's now unlikely that CAS will meet in time to determine the City ban appeal before the cut-off for the champs league next season (sometime in June - not sure when), this means that United will have to get 4th to qualify.

I think they would go for whatever suits them best, regardless of how it affects Liverpool. Utd are currently 3 points behind Chelsea with a slightly better goal difference, so I could see them voting to continue the season.

It does raise the question of who would qualify if the season is voided though. Would the PL put forward the top 4 as it stands or go on the previous season's standings, given that this season's standings would technically not count, if voided?

That's a legal minefield and one which would have lawyers licking their lips.

      1. FOO FIGHTER
        • 4 Years

Correct, if the season is voided, how can any team be relegated? How can any team qualify for CL or Europe with void being a no result.

The FA cannot just cherry pick teams.

That is why there will be a push to conclude the season.

According to a friend that works in the emergency field (so please don't take this as the gospel truth), the infection numbers are predicted increase in the coming weeks, not decrease. Plus, re-infection with Covid-19 is common as only a fraction of people develop an immunity after infection, so you may be right.

      1. Danno - Emre Canada
        • 9 Years
        4 years, 10 days ago

Re-infection is not common with a Covid-19 and the handful of cases that have possibly been reinfected could also just be relapses and as much as I’m against animal testing, monkeys have just been shown to not be re-infected. It’s common knowledge that the infected will continue to climb crazily towards its peak in a few weeks.

End season now awarding 70% of prize money based on current league position. Remaining 30% used as hardship fund for lower league.

No promotions / relegations but current top teams get the cup.

Unfortunate for teams in 2nd / 3rd for promotion but at least they get some financial reward. Europe places based on last season.

      1. I agree with you absolutely, but would the clubs? Can't see them letting any more than a token amount ago. Enough to ease their conscience and look good, but no more than that.

      2. I can agree with no relegations but would still promote teams, then re-align the league numbers the following season (I think this is what the leagues have in mind, should the season be voided), However, can't agree on awarding the title to each league's top teams. West Brom, Rotherham, Swindon, and maybe even City would all have something to say if Leeds, Coventry, Crewe and Liverpool were awarded the titles. I do see the contradiction here in even promoting the current top teams, but there just isn't a perfect solution to all this.

      3. Posted something higher up on how would the PL award European places? That's a legal minefield and one for the lawyers probably.

I’d not be against promoting teams but not relegating. In fact more games is good in my mind!

Europe places are tough but if they don’t finish this years champions league. I can kinda see the logic of re running next year. It sucks for teams like Leicester but there is no good scenario if season can’t be finished.

Clearly, the issues are with my Defence so gonna plan to improve that.

    A) Kelly, Rico, Traore, Ings --> Saiss / Alonso/ Hayden / DCL (cost -4)
    B) Ings / Traore / KDB / TAA --> Auba / Fernandes / Hayden / Robertson (cost -4)

Yup surely the announcement is we'll do everything we can to continue the season, nobody is opposed to Liverpool winning it. However I think they will say if it doesn't get finished by X date it's null and void whereas some think they will wait for how long it takes to finish this season

Yeah I'm sure they will push for a finish if possible.

I reckon they will look to go down the empty stadiums route, but the government will say only essential travel. Footballers playing football isn't essential.

PL teams could play out the season using Subbuteo. Ryan would be better on a stick.

Anyone here lost their jobs yet? Friend of mine (working in the rail industry) has been given his notice.

I am expecting my redundancy notice in the next month. I'm in the aviation industry. Our main revenue stream is based on flying hours.

Good luck with whatever you do wherever you are.

Its a bit surreal to see people discussing their transfers on here when all of this happening. Are you guys millionaires or in an unaffected industry?

sorry to hear that, it's a very worrying time for all.

I find it strange myself, personally I really don't care anymore about FPL or this season. As I said before plenty more important things in life and if this hasn't put life into perspective nothing will

In January, I was one of those people who never expected this to become so bad. Yeah maybe it would affect some people, but never foresaw it grinding the entire economy to a halt.

        Sorry to hear that!

To be fair, there are always plenty of things that are more important than FPL, I don't think we should stop caring about unimportant things just because of this situation.

I for one have plenty of time to plan my pointless transfers, as I don't have a job anymore :))

Just bought my first home 2 years ago. Worried about mortgage etc.
FPL feels so irrelevant right now.

For some reason I'm a lot less less worried about my health, but seriously worried financially.

Good luck with it mate. Me and many of my colleagues have decided to work as much overtime as we can and maybe if everyone does that then it gives our company a better chance at survival, my main lesson learnt is that I'll never complain about my job again!

The Premier League have decided to postpone the season further, moving all games back to the other side of May. This would include all Gameweeks up to and including 35, leaving Gameweek 36 untouched. No word from Fantasy Premier League on the matter yet.

"However, The FA’s Board has agreed for this limit to be extended indefinitely for the 2019/20 season in relation to Professional Football."

          100% feels the focus.

As I'm sure you have already heard, all Premier league games up until May have been postponed in the latest attempt to limit the spread of Covid-19.

      https://www.premierleague.com/news/1646728

Whilst we are currently unsure of how Fantasy Premier League will adjust to such news, Fantasy Football Scout will now be adjusting our approach to both the FFS Cup and the Scout Head to Head leagues, meaning they now diverge from the organisation of their official counterparts.

Instead of all blank gameweeks starting from (and including) Gameweek 30 counting as ties across all competitions, we will instead suspended all of these games and reschedule this rounds for a later date.

As we do not know when football will recommence, we can't say when each of these rounds will occur - it may well be that we have to fit 8 sets of Head to Head games into what FPL will call 3 Gameweeks. It may also be that we see new Gameweeks - 39,40 etc - added forming close enough to 8 Gameweeks all full of games, which means we could operate our tournament normally.

Simply, we don't know. Therefore, we ask you to be aware of the fact that Fantasy Football Scout's tournaments may need to operate under it's own custom Gameweeks for the rest of the season. Sadly, this would have limitations - if a triple Gameweek was broken up into 3 "FFS" Gameweeks, you would be forced to have the same XI and captain in all 3 as the official site wouldn't update. However, we hope that if this was needed it would be more fair than deciding everything with coin flips.

Most importantly, I hope everyone stays safe and well during this period. If you have any questions, just drop them below 🙂
