Jiménez scores again but fails to dazzle in laboured win over Bournemouth

Wolves 1-0 Bournemouth

  • Goals: Raúl Jiménez (£8.2m)
  • Assists: Adama Traoré (£5.8m)
  • Bonus Points: Jiménez x3, Jonny x2 (£5.4m), Willy Boly x1 (£4.8m), Romain Saïss x1 (£4.6m)

Raúl Jiménez (£8.2m) highlighted his consistency once again as Wolves beat Bournemouth 1-0 but he was not at his usual scintillating best.

The Mexican was arguably on the periphery of Wednesday’s encounter as both sides struggled to offer much for the neutral viewers. While it was a surprisingly dull game, proceedings at Molineux were hardly out of step with other Gameweek 31+ fixtures around the country. Given the circumstances of the Premier League’s three-month lay-off, it makes sense that the midweek round of action would come too soon after Gameweek 30+ for many players to be at 100% capacity.

That said, despite Nuno Espirito Santo deploying him as the central spearhead of Wolves’ 3-4-3 formation, Jiménez found himself drifting wide on occasion at Molineux and, in the end, scored with his only shot of the game.

Will that be of huge concern to his 34.2% ownership with Aston Villa up next? Surely not. The best players in the world manage to score even when they’re having a bad game, right? Jiménez now has four goals in his last five league matches and remains one of the few undroppable options at Nuno’s disposal.

Just as we saw against West Ham, the Mexican stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes, replaced in stoppage time by Daniel Podence (£5.0m), while those around him had their minutes managed more significantly. With nobody else in the squad capable of replicating his duties, another short turnaround before Saturday’s Midlands derby is unlikely to affect Jiménez’s game-time, especially considering how well he has coped with a busy 12 months. There will also a be a full week of recovery for Wolves between their Gameweek 32+ and 33+ fixtures to sit at the back of Nuno’s mind.

Diogo Jota (£6.4m) made a second successive start and, despite another spirited run-out, was replaced by Pedro Neto (£5.0m) on the hour-mark with another blank. The fact that has happened in both Project Restart matches demonstrates how much extra value Fantasy managers get even when spending an additional £1.8m on Jiménez.

Meanwhile, Adama Traoré (£5.8m) got his first start since the resumption of the Premier League but was taken off in a shape-change to 3-5-2 in the 72nd minute. That said, the Spaniard does look a more reliable form of investment than Jota, arguably a decent option to pair with Jiménez in our FPL squads. While Wolves were not particularly incisive against Bournemouth, Traoré’s pace and delivery led to him registering a carbon copy of the assist for Jiménez he provided at the London Stadium. Until someone learns how to deal with him, or the aerial threat of Wolves’ centre-forward, Traoré is sure to get more attacking returns.

However, making the case that he should feature in FPL squads as part of a triple-up continues to be complicated by Wolves’ excellent defence, who face an Aston Villa side in Gameweek 32+ that has toiled in front of goal so far.

It has been widely reported that Nuno’s men have become exceptionally hard to break down since Willy Boly (£4.8m) returned from injury but we will wheel it out once more. They have now kept a total of six clean sheets from a possible following the defender’s Gameweek 25 comeback. For that reason, Matt Doherty (£6.4m), Romain Saïss (£4.6m) and Rui Patrício (£5.2m) remain excellent options for the foreseeable future. Moroccan defender Saïss is still persistently proving great value, picking up bonus points for the third match in succession despite earning a booking against Bournemouth. That was his ninth yellow card of the season, so owners should be conscious that one more would mean a two-match ban.

Wolves defensive credentials are firmly established at this point but they were helped on this occasion by Bournemouth’s anaemic attack. Following their toothless display against Crystal Palace, Eddie Howe went for a 4-5-1 formation with Junior Stanislas (£5.9m) and David Brooks (£6.2m) on the flanks. They could not make up for the absence of Joshua King (£6.1m) though, which left Callum Wilson (£7.4m) isolated in the lone-forward role.

Fantasy managers were probably already targeting the Bournemouth attack on their search for clean sheets, but the appeal of Newcastle, Manchester United and Spurs defenders certainly rose after Bournemouth’s latest outing, as they are set to face them in the next three Gameweeks. Backlines of the Magpies and Red Devils will be especially pleased with Wilson picking up his 10th yellow of the season, consigning him to a two-match ban.

Wolves XI (3-4-3): Patricio; Saiss, Coady, Boly; Jonny, Neves, Moutinho (Gibbs-White 90+1’), Doherty; D Jota (Neto 62’), Jiménez (Podence 90’), Traoré (Dendoncker 73’).

Bournemouth XI (4-5-1): Ramsdale; A Smith, Aké, S Cook, Stacey (L Kelly 82’); Stanislas (Danjuma 66’), Lerma (Solanke 66’), L Cook, Billing (Gosling 50’), Brooks (H Wilson 66’); C Wilson.

It’s 33 or 34 for me, when all the big teams have nice fixtures. Load up on Cty, Man U, Pool and some Spurs.

Why, stick with Man City and Liverpool attacking assets, it could easily be 2.2 or a 5 goal thriller.

    Salah – KDB – Fernandes – Saka
    Auba – Jimmy – DCL

Not owning Ings this season has really hurt me but I’m too stubborn to get him so here I am with DCL

Sold ings for dcl based purely on hating what ings did to me prior to the shutdown. No goals, not starting , just became too frustrating especially seeing dcl turn up whilst ings didnt. Ings is the more explosive but the schedule for this restart also heavily influenced my decision to ditch as i dont want to get caught out again with him not starting or missing out all together. Might consider returning to him by gw 33/34 , just watching the southampton selection policy for now. The Has mentioned many times previously, the fitness of ings needing to be managed so need to see how it is before recommitting

In the same boat and also waiting post brighton before committing to a switch. Tony surprised me , not just the goals, but actually seeing him so involved rather than wondering if hes even on the pitch like the spurs game. Brighton should be better defensively and have start well in their 1st 2 games so could give utd a match meaning set pieces might be important.

For me , I have always preferred Salah to Mane. He has outscored Mane every season in FPL and I expect him to do the same this year. He is on penalties and honestly after watching that Liverpool game yesterday looks incredibly sharp so I don't doubt him hauling again. Mane is still a great option I just prefer Salah

He is on pens is the primary reason to go Salah over Mane.

Salah was terrible yesterday and yet quite easily could have had a hattrick.

    6. Don Kloppeone

Always Salah over Mané unless injured imo. Streaky in his returns sometimes but more exciting and has pens in his favour.

One thing i noticed is that Salah is always hard to get bonus. Just like yesterday Mane had more.

I have been always TAA, Mane and Salah. Always. But i change Salah to Bruyne because Salah was injuried.

Mane played really well yesterday and created to monster chances for Winjnaldum. It was just a question because im not seeing in my leagues any Mane love xD

Really difficult to predict what Klopp will do once they've won the title.

Gamble of not having him could really pay off, and means more budget round the rest of your team - but he's so good, and has looked the sharpest of any Liverpool player.

Also they're out of the CL so don't need to keep big hitters rested.

Personally I've had him all season, mainly because of the fear factor.

I think Pep has to keep KDB on the boil though, they need him fresh but also match sharp when they go into the CL. I think he'll play quite a bit til the end of the season. Same goes for Sterling and Laporte.

I would hope TAA avoids rotation given he is young and has the fitness etc. Not a lpool fan though so unsure on what to expect for rotation.

They are out of all cups though so that would tell me they will stick to a strong team and look to break records (TAA mentioned this in his post match interview)

Neco Williams a big prospect, and a right back. In theory once the title's won, he should get minutes with TAA rested.

Also expect Curtis Jones to definitely get starts.

Others you'd expect to get minutes:
        Lallana
        Chambermaid
        Origi

        And maybe:
        Hoever
        Elliot.

They also have Gomez to cover right back, so if for example Klopp wanted to give Hoever a start, he could balance the defence and sure it up by playing Gomez RB.

In conclusion - who knows? But ballsy move going without TAA until we know more.

I'm hoping Lpool vs AVL is the game they need to win for the league, this way a triple up on WC33 could score big pts

Agree that all these will start to get more minutes once we have things wrapped up but Klopp will not be one to just pack away the big boys on the shelf. They just might play reduced minutes most matches which for TAA is always enough for him to do damage.

Yeah if TAA gets hauled on the hour with a cleanie intact that is just fine.

I just feel there is more downside to predict rotation too early (they may haul for the rest of the year) than too late (you may have one week of 0/1 points). Why not wait for the first dropping of taa, mane, salah, alisson, vvd, robertson or firmino and then take that as the sign you need to reinvest elsewhere?

This is the smart move IMO. No way I'm getting rid of TAA or one of Mane / Salah until I'm sure Klopp's going to be mixing it up.

There is another factor on how many matches squad players need to win a medal, most regular subs for Liverpool will be fine, but anyone know the threshold and who may be below it?

I think it's appearance based rather than minutes so expect lots of little cameos.

Just 5 matches, don't think its starts either.

So some fringe or younger squad members could get sub appearances for this reason too.

    Nyland Cantwell Lundstram Aarons

Quite similar squad. Probably just Aguero to either Rashford or Jimenez. Not sure about hit for this week - a 2nd Liverpool player would be good but perhaps week after.

Interesting. Don’t like Sheffield defenders aswell as of course Aguero and Grealish. Might wait for next week to take hits.

        Aguero > Rashford most likely

        Liverpool interesting- Klopp could rotate.

Yeah same. I went Jimenez and have Martial (and Fernandes). Will have to see with Liverpool, I should think VVD, Salah and Mane wont be at too high risk but who knows.

Long time Spurs fan here, and as a result always pretty negative/realistic about them.

I have both, but am uneasy with Son. Very unlucky to have that goal disallowed against West Ham, but generally didn't look sharp at all - and this goes for the entire Spurs attack.

The media narrative about Mou is that he doesn't really coach attackers, and relies on their individual flare. That's almost certainly and exaggeration, but watching this Spurs team since his arrival it's hard not to see why the theory is wheeled out so much.

The plus side, is that Son is pretty nailed, with Mou saying he'll look to rotate Bergwijn and Lucas, starting one and bringing on the other after an hour.

Morning all. Taking an early look at my team, looks (for now) like this might be a ‘roll FT’ situation. Agree?

    1FT 0itb
    Pope
    TAA, Doherty, Lascelles
    Salah, KDB, Son, Bruno
    Rash, Jimi, DCL
    (Martin) (Kiko, Guendo, Simpson)

    Thanks

Many people would get a similar team in with Martial on FH. Hold FH until injuries mount or roll on final day of the season with those teams playing for top 4 and to avoid bottom 3.

Stick. This is very similar to my team. I am very tempted to jump on the bruno to martial bandwagon, however it was one game against a weakened Sheffield defence - no henderson, no egan, no o'connell. So, i'm saving my FT and monitoring bruno in the next gw.

Admittedly not in great shape, but happy with a 40K-17K jump over last two GWs! Anything worth changing? 0FT, 0.1 ITB...

    Ederson
    TAA, Lascelles, Basham
    KDB, Salah, Fernandes, Martial, Grealish
    Jimenez, Aubameyang

    (McCarthy, Nketiah, Lundstram, Egan)

    Likely lose Egan/Grealish/Auba next week.

Thoughts on the next move here with 1FT and 0.2m

    Ddg
Taa Doc Aurier -- Holgate Kiko
    Kdb Salah Bruno Sarr
    Rashford Jimmy DCL

A: Save FT as 2FT's in gw33 might be handy

As I can see the FA semi finals are overlapping GW 37! So there must be a blank GW for the 2 Manchester teams or Arsenal or Chelsea and Leicester....and double 38th GW! Is it right? No other date can fit the semi finals....
