The fixture list for the 2020/21 Premier League season was published this morning and Fantasy Premier League looks set to kick off with a Blank Gameweek 1.

Manchester City and Manchester United will both start the season a week later following their exploits in European club competition.

Their scheduled opponents on the opening weekend, Aston Villa and Burnley, will also begin their campaigns in Gameweek 2.

Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers were in Champions League and Europa League action earlier this month but, although they have been handed a bit of an extra breather, their first fixtures still fall within Gameweek 1 and will take place on Monday 14 September.

Liverpool and Arsenal take on newly-promoted Leeds United and Fulham in two of the most eye-catching fixtures in the first round of 2020/21 matches, with Chelsea away at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Early-season interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) may well be short-lived, with the Gunners facing Fulham and West Ham United before meeting four of last season’s top five and Sheffield United between Gameweeks 3-7.

Liverpool also have a mixed start, with the visit of Marcelo Bielsa’s side followed by clashes with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Manchester City get their season underway in Gameweek 2 with a trip to Wolves, with visits of Leicester City and Arsenal to follow in Gameweeks 3 and 5.

Their cross-city rivals meanwhile follow up their Blank Gameweek 1 with a more appealing fixture against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, with matches against Brighton and Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United coming next.

Spurs have a decent start: they have six meetings against sides that finished 10th or below in their opening seven fixtures, with Championship runners-up West Bromwich Albion then up in Gameweek 8.

Wolves’ run of matches from Gameweeks 3-7 also stand out, while Chelsea will be quietly pleased with their initial schedule aside from a Gameweek 2 clash with Liverpool: the Blues take on Brighton, West Brom, Crystal Palace and Southampton in the opening five Gameweeks.

West Ham United may well be the team to avoid in the opening two months. After a favourable opening-weekend clash with Newcastle United, the Hammers then face six of last season’s top eight in quick succession.

We’ll be back later today with a more detailed inspection of the best and worst fixture schedules.

Our Season Ticker has been updated in the meantime, with Fantasy Football Scout subscribers able to sort by difficulty, attacking and defensive potential and rotation pairings.

With so many players likely to exclude City/Utd for GW1, ownership may be low meaning GW2-4 could see many prize rises for premium players.

Starting to think a WC is needed to ensure I don't get priced out later on...

I looked at Wolves, but felt their defence and fixtures meant you should not rotate them, but just play them all the time.

        With BUR/NEW, didn't like the GW6 and GW7 fixtures

Yeh, Vinagre could compete with the premiums and not be worth rotating. In which case, is it worth a rotating pair of £4.5s?

Spotted this myself, too. Only combination of two teams that provides 7 home games not against Top6/LEI/WOL (as per the Hedge article) in the first 8 and in GW6 you have Palace away at Fulham. All NEW/CRY DEFs are 4.5 or 4.0 except Fernandez, Schar and Van Aanholt.

I did some research on how a third 4.5 DEF could make that even better.

Vinagre (WOL) is on paper the best option, giving you 2/3 4.5 DEFs avoiding Top6/LEI/WOL in GWs 1-8 except for GW2 (he's at home to MCI). Also upgrades GW6 from ful to NEW if you only want to use one of the three 4.5 DEFs at a time.

Bednarek (SOU) is very similar, but more nailed on long term. Weakness is GW5 (che, where Vinagre has lee).

If you believe Fulham's defence will be ok, then any of their DEFs except Bryan (5.0) could be used to give same as Bednarek except the weakness moves to GW4 (wol).

A WBA DEF would be slightly worse than a Fulham DEF because you would lose a viable home fixture altogether (2 instead of 3). Viable away fixtures would remain at 3.

A BHA DEF would be slightly worse again as it would leave only one viable fixture in both GW3 (MUN) and GW7 (tot), making up for it slightly by giving a third in GW8 (BUR).

Finally, Dallas/Ayling (LEE) would be the worst of these options overall, staying at 3 viable away games, but only having 1 at home. However, that home game would come in GW2 (FUL) and none of the other options here can offer that to go with the Newcastle home fixture against BHA (Palace have mun). Leeds offer a viable away fixture in GW3 (shu) before things turn unpleasant (MCI, WOL). If you're thinking of wildcarding early, or if you could manage to use only one of the trio of 4.5 DEFs in GWs 4-5 then that GW2 (FUL) might be a useful early differential advantage.

    McCarthy (4.0)
    TAA, VVD, Justin, Vinagre (4.0)
    Auba, Salah, Son, Maddison, Armstrong
    Jiminez, Mitrovic (4.5)

Playing either 352 or 442. Targets early on include Doherty (GW3) and some Mancs

A bigger punt may be an arsenal defender for the 2 openers. Will wait to see the community shield for that though.

Yeah & they might not even click defensively from the off like last season when it wasn't until December when they started keeping cleansheets regularly. It was only TAA's attacking returns that kept him going during that period, Robinson & VVD didn't score many at all.

They still all outperform every player in the game at that price point. Given the loose plan would be to get Doherty in GW3 anyway, it’s only 2 games as a placeholder - Tierney is another option leaving 1m ITB.

I dunno, I remember lots of two pointers from VVD & Robinson early last season, it's why I had ditched the double up after a month due to only 2 cleansheets in the first 15 games. Decemeber onwards was when they hit their stride with 12 cleansheets in the next 23 games.

as much as i love arsenal and tierney, i think 5.5 is a bit rich given the information we have at this time.
furthermore, leicsester fell apart towards the end of last season.

      1. Marmalade Forest
        • 8 Years

        The information we have:

Post restart Tierney has played 13 games including Man City twice, Wolves, Leicester, Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea (a sea of red or, in black and white terms, six easy and seven hard games).

He had two assists and a goal.
        Arsenal kept four clean sheets.

        He’s not Trent
        Arsenal aren’t Liverpool
But I think 5.5 could be very good value.

  11. Dr. Rog
    • 16 Years

    McCarthy (4)
    TAA Saliba Vinagre (KWP, 4)
    Salah Auba Son Soucek (4.5)
    Werner Mitro Adams

2.5 to spend. and i might just leave it there. feels like flexibility will be key. for example,
could be Soucek --> Greenwood after wk1
the 4m defender --> VVD/Doherty/Larporte and just go with a 4-3-3 type setup
mitro/adams --> Jimmy or Martial (after freeing up 0.5 from the inevitable Auba --> City transfer)

4.5 x4 plus TAA is not easy to get the rotation nailed.

Austin will come on late in games he rarely played 90 in the championship and wasn't a nailed starter that won't change imo

Who's still getting soucek despite the ugly fixtures?

First game is golden, and then the london derbies to come at ars and tot could be tight games, so set pieces might favour the big guy. I'd imagine his price could skyrocket after GW1 or 2 so please don't cross him out entirely

      I’m still looking.
Worst case scenario - he’s an enabler. Keep expectations low.
Don’t see anything coming out of MID at £4.5m that I’m even remotely interested in.

He stays for me as it stands.
      And will start GW1

I’m thinking greenwood bench GW1, start Soucek (NEW) and Salah (che) > Fernandes (CPL) for GW2

    3. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus

      The only thing is - there's a gigantic gap (for internationals) between GW's 4 & 5

The transfer window also SLAMS shut between GWs 4 & 5

And the champions league/europa group stages kick in directly before GW's 5 & 6

        • 9 Years

That’s fine by me I reckon. I will be more knowledgable by GW3 to avoid making such silly mistakes in the future

I won’t be having him myself. Just a better option than McCarthy because of the back up. I had him the last 2 seasons and it painful watching Pope / Heaton / Henderson plunder points while you get 2. Might be different this season but don’t see it as potter will continue to play out from the back and they get caught too often.

        3. Brimble82
          • 7 Years

I hated owning him last year, but I can’t seem to look anywhere else at £4.5m (assuming Ramsdale comes in at £5.0)
Nyland as my back up though. At least that way he’s a playing GK and backs up a couple of Ryan’s tricky early fixtures nicely.

GW14 earliest possible but super unlikely because it depends on the teams not making the QFs. With MUN and MCI as part of the postponed fixtures, it realistically won't be scheduled until the winter break...

Earliest dates that the Blanks could be moved to:

GW14 - if neither side reaches the EFL Cup QFs
GW17 - if neither side reaches the EFL Cup SFs
GW18 or GW19 - if the PL don't mind disrupting the mini winter break

        Arsenal have been good defensively.

Getting keeper from top 6 team for 9.5 is cheap imo
