International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty ahead of Gameweek 1?

Fantasy managers are faced with the unusual situation of an international break taking place immediately before the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

A week of international fixtures got underway in midweek, with many key top-flight players in action for their nations and missing out on pre-season preparations with their clubs as a consequence.

The positive news is that only those representing European countries will be away from their clubs, as UEFA tries to play catch-up with the Nations League.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.0m), Sadio Mane (£12.0m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m), Son Heung-min (£9.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£8.5m) will be staying put, then, while those European players who are on international duty at least won’t have to endure an arduous trek back from further afield given that all Nations League matches will take place on the continent.

This article gives a club-by-club rundown on which assets will be away from their sides during this period, also detailing the dates in which these players will be competing for their respective countries.

Why? Are they not targeting Benrahma, who is better. Diangana is 22 now and only managed 8 goals in 30+ Championship games.

Have they signed Benrahama? West Ham captain is more in a position to lambaste his club in this situation don't you think?

I was thinking of where I'd been in an argument with drip doctor then remembered he suggested the other day firmino is the most overrated player ever. Probably explains looking at dianganas goal stats in isolation too

It’s a sad state of affairs at West Ham at the minute, huge rift between the owners & fans. A little history lesson looking at the demise of Birmingham City gives you all you need to know on the boards tactics & plans on how to run a club (into the ground).

We could be in serious trouble this year, thankfully I can see 3 teams being worse than us again though so should survive. The early run of fixtures being absolutely horrible won’t help us though & after a poor start you might see heads start dropping.

On the note of Grady, FPL wise, great prospect & I fully expect him to bag a hat full of assists this season. Even if you only bring him in when it’s West Ham v WBA you’re pretty much guaranteed points!

Boleyn sorry to say that I think West Ham are going down this year as well. I don't think even Fabianski on his best day will be able to get clean sheets for that defence, the midfield is completely torrid and sluggish and Antonio's 4 goal haul against a deflated Norwich is not convincing evidence that he will suddenly become a good poacher. Bowen and Yarmolenko are decent but the team has degenerated massively over the last couple of years.

It all hinges on the Man Utd player:

    A) Greenwood, Saint-Maximin, Ings

He will get this season, IMO. If he shows signs of failure early next season, after all the players are bedded in, then he will get the boot. You can't have a team this good and not be winning things:

      Kepa
      Azpi Silva Rudiger Chilwell
      Kovacic Havertz Kante
      Ziyech Werner Pulisic

No chance, he'll be more expensive with that goalscoring pedigree. 9.0 for me

Whilst that’s probably fair value, still think he can’t be more than Alli really. Also no10 but proven in the premier league.

Secretly hoping also he comes in at 8.0m

I have a similar team but minus Trent and a better midfield. The question being how many more prospective points did I think I'll get from the amount I could use to upgrade two shoddy midfielders by having a 4.5 defender.

People who run cash mini leagues - are you continuing to do so this year or abiding by the rules/scared that it may mean you don’t win the FPL title *if* you finish 1 overall?

Dont even have to finish 1st to be punished. Anyone could report to fpl with proof and their team would be deleted. Will wipe put previous history too

When you’ve got Maguire going for £50million you start setting the bar really, English international (albeit 2 caps) doubles a players value in today’s market too. We are in desperate need of a half decent CB and if you’re going to prize a player from another PL clubs starting 11 you’re going to pay a premium.

Instead see a tweet about cut price players, my god, it really is spoon feeding for the masses.

Here, you may end up with the same result, but it takes a bit more effort, and it maybe a bit more informed.

Can't really compare the 2, I mean, the tweet in 30 seconds is basically saying pick mccarthy, vinagre, Mitchell, asm ( I gave up at this point so don't know the 5th player)

        Its spoon feeding!

Norwich raised and former season ticket holder here who is also very happy with our signings. Bournemouth still have a very good first XI in theory but I agree that next year might be a difficult one for them.

    Thoughts on my latest draft:

    McCarthy
    TAA Doherty James Vinagre Taylor
    Salah Aubam Periera Souchek 4.5
    Ings Werner Mitrovic

    0.5 ITB

    4-3-3 post GW1

Ings > Martial or Salah > Fernandes likely in GW2
    Auba > Sterling/KDB likely in GW3

Thoughts? Five 4.5+ playing defenders too much?

Is it possible that Chelsea are going to go for a 4-5-1 formation this season?

They have so many quality midfielders it's hard to see how (and who) they will fit in.

Obvs Havertz at that price is nailed, and maybe Ziyech too (they paid 40 million for him) , but then they have Mount, Pulisic, Kante, Jorginho, RLC, CHO, Billy Gilmour, Kovacic and Barkley.

Or, will they play a 4-3-3 with Havertz, Werner and Ziyech? Three players who scored 55 goals and got 34 assists between them last season?

Will most likely be almost exactly the same as last year, unless (as is looking very likely) Lampard manages to shift Kante and Jorginho out the door. Rice will likely then be signed so they have a first choice of:
      Pulisic Werner Ziyech
      Havertz
      Kovacic Rice/Kante

The rest will be rotated around in one of those spots, Mount and CHO likely on wings (although Mount is a more natural 10). Barkley and Loftus Cheek for that 10 role or Kovacic and Gilmour/Jorginho for Rice/Kante. I agree though and didn't want Havertz signed because at the minute we have too many CAMs.

Cheers for insight. Double/triple up on attack certainly looks likely (FPL). Interested to see how long the new signings take to get acquainted with the season only a week away.

Somewhat laughable that Pulisic couldn’t even break into the first XI due to the English boys and now Lamps has entirely new personnel in those positions. Not sure if he’ll ease in the new midfielders (may sound silly ) or they’ll be starting from the off with the season staring so soon

Ziyech would be the most tempting one for me if this injury pans out, as I think Werner is slightly over-priced and Chelsea have Tammy and Giroud in that position and Werner will likely take some time to adapt to the Prem.

Anybody else think the 4.0 DEF options are effectively dead?

Ferguson - seems a way off rejoining training. Won't be match fit for weeks.

Mitchell - PVA pictured back in training today.

Johnson - Fredericks is WHU 1st choice RB.

It's making me consider going with Trent and four (hopefully) nailed 4.5 defenders. The benefit of the 4.5 defenders over the 4.5 mids and strikers is that you have a realistic shot at returns through way of clean sheets.

By including a non-playing 4.0 defender, you're effectively wasting that 4.0. Whereas for an additional 0.5, you're buying yourself the potential of points.

People might think you'll never need that 4.0 defender but we've seen with Lundstram and AWB over the years that they are called upon.
