It’s the penultimate weekend of the 2011/12 Premier League season, and only Wolves know their fate. Although nothing can be officially decided today, the Dugout Dugout opens for seven games with huge significance at both ends of the table. We start with arguably the biggest game of the day, as Manchester City travel to Newcastle United, with the title and Champions League qualification on the line. Here’s how both sides line-up…

Newcastle XI: Krul, Perch, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Tiote, Gutierrez, Cisse, Ba.

Man City XI: Hart, Zabaleta, Lescott, Kompany, Clichy, Nasri, Toure Yaya, Barry, Silva, Aguero, Tevez

Unsurprisingly, after two massive wins this week, both sides name unchanged line-ups.

Should City falter at the Sports Direct Arena, then attention and intrigue with turn to Old Trafford to see how the Champions can respond at home to Swansea.

In and amongst those two huge games, there’s five games kicking off at 2pm. They include three of the five sides desperately trying to avoid relegation with Aston Villa facing third-place chasing Spurs, QPR hosting Stoke, and Bolton welcoming the visit of West Brom.

Follow all the action as it unfolds in our Dugout Discussion chatroom, which can be accessed right here.

Why was wheater subbed...One clean sheet they are likely to get, and he played only 45 minutes.
Anyways on 52 points, things looking good for me on fpl front.
Now only if Tottenham just score one more to seal this match and a CL spot, that would be really nice.

Yeah luck plays a part but you've probably had your fair share as well at times. It's easy to forget about the times you get lucky and your rival doesn't.

Oh well, onwards and upwards to next season!

I was thinking along similar lines. 6-0, is my thinking. They have to go for it. Gutted that Nani is on the bench. Mind you, City at home to QPR is a much easier task than ManU away to Sunderland, so really, I think it's all over now. Can't say I mind. Disappointing that it's an injection of money that has to unseat the over-and-over-again winners, but at least it keeps things interesting.

Heres some interesting stats for those comparing City "buying" the league versus United not and fergie building his title team with no big spending.

Net spend between start of the 1986 season and start of the 1992 season:

    ManU (11th in table in 1986) 13m
Next 4 Liverpool, Everton, Spurs and Arsenal COMBINED: 14m
    Source: Soccerbase

Net Spending 2006 to present season

    Man city 418,870,000

Next 4 (United dont make Net spend top 4 due to Ronaldo sale )

Chelsea Liverpool Spurs Villa COMBINED 373,000,000

In realtive comparision with their rivals on net spending City now and United (also midtable in 1986) are very similar

Find it funny City doing it now is buying the title. Yet United spent alot of money (in comparision with their rivals as to compare direct money is impossible) for a midtable team in the 80s pre success too.

Yes but to maintain it for 20 years after that AND hold of big spenders like City and Chelsea is quite remarkable without spending big yourself. Also, Man United spent that money in a duration of 6 years whilst city have mostly spent it in just 3 years. Half the duration. Also, several of United legends, have either been cheap or academy players, players like Scholes, Giggs, Beckham, Cantona, Ronaldo(he wasn't cheap but he was in the end great business). Sure, United spent money, obviously you have to spend money at some point to get top quality players, but the point is to maintain it and spend it judiciously and City have most definitely NOT spent their money judiciously. Apart from Richards and Hart, tell me regular first team City academy player? Maybe in 20 years time City will hold the same stature as United, but they'll have to wait for that.

            Your missing the point

United went from midtable to champs as city look to be doing over a 6 year period (Pre youth team)

Its nothing to do with youth team success and establishing a team but going from midtable spending to champs which both did and relative to their rivals they are almost exactly the same.

Im not saying they hold the same stature im saying if City bought this league which many are saying then an objective look at how fergie got his initial success is very similar as shown above.

Again its 2006 to now and 1986 to 1992. Not after. Both pre success, both midtable when they started spending. City have been said by manner to have bought there way to the top .....united ascension under fergusion to the first title is not much different when comparing to rivals in both eras.

Im not comparing statures but merely showing City are not the first to do it and fergie did very similar but never gets such "you bought a title squad" for his first team

I get what you're saying, but you're figures are wrong, United only spent 10.7 million between 1986 - 1992. That's an average of 1.6 million per year.

oh and yes, but I do agree with the point that Man United did buy good players(obviously at a price) similar to what City are now doing. However, that spending was staggered, Most of City's has been in a rush, thanks to them and other ridiculous buys the market has become gross inflated.

Yes 2 different sources including soccer lens and transfersleague co.uk records

United in the 80s spent almost exact same as City today relative to their rivals. In fact United selling Ronaldo (which means they are not in top 4 net spend but are in overall spend stops it being like for like) so villa go into top 4 net spend instead

If city bought this success United had a very similar path from midtable to 1992 success before the youth team came in when you comparing to rivals at time as money in football is incomparable.
