Can Vardy replicate away form as Leicester face run of home matches?

Leeds 1-4 Leicester

  • Goals: Stuart Dallas (£4.5m) | Harvey Barnes (£6.9m), Youri Tielemans x2 (£6.4m), Jamie Vardy (£10.0m)
  • Assists: Jack Harrison (£5.5m) | Vardy x2, Cengiz Ünder (£5.9m), James Maddison (£7.0m)
  • Bonus points: Tielemans x3, Vardy x2, H Barnes x1, Harrison x1

IT’S …………… JAMIE VARDY

Concluding Gameweek 7 in a Monday night outing, Jamie Vardy (£10.0m) reminded Fantasy Premier League managers of the setting in which he thrives best: away matches.

The veteran striker scored and registered two assists as Leicester exposed Leeds’ high defensive line at Elland Road and ran away 4-1 winners.

While the former England international had scored just nine points between Gameweeks 4 and 6, Gameweek 7’s closing act highlighted just how dangerous he can be, given the right setting.

Marcelo Bielsa is well-known for his risk-versus-reward system that features plenty of space behind his own defence, something with Vardy exploited with textbook ruthlessness.

With Harry Kane (£10.9m) and Spurs experiencing a turn of fixtures from Gameweek 9 onwards, Fantasy managers are already trying eye up potential replacements; Vardy is sure to be one.

However, Leicester’s own schedule may not be as catering to the player’s strengths as he might like.

His Monday night performance continued an incredible trend for Vardy, with every single one of his attacking returns coming away from home.

In the next six Gameweeks, Leicester turn out at the King Power Stadium four times, where their main man is yet to involve himself in a single league goal this season.

The matches he has played there so far in 2020/21 have hardly been tricky either. The Foxes scored four goals against Burnley, got thrashed 3-0 by West Ham, and laboured to a 1-0 defeat by Aston Villa, all with Vardy providing very little.

Clearly, opposition teams are more likely to sit deep and guard against Vardy’s pace when they are the visitors than if they were hosts. Wolves, Fulham, Brighton and Everton are the next four teams tasked with that responsibility.

WHAM BAM

It turns out Patrick Bamford (£6.0m) largely falls into the same category as Vardy in that he has proved more effective on the road this season.

Off the back of a Villa Park hat-trick, the Leeds forward earned over 500,000 new owners for Gameweek 7, rewarding them with his third successive blank at Elland Road. That ensured only 37% of his points have come at home this season, despite playing 57% of his games there.

However, unlike Vardy, Bamford’s home blanks have not been for the lack of trying. He was gifted two gilt-edge chances against Leicester, first set-up for a close-range header by Jack Harrison (£5.5m) before Luke Ayling (£4.5m) played him through the middle. In both cases the end-product let him down, the Leeds’ forward producing tame efforts that Kasper Schmeichel (£5.5m) was equal to each time.

Still, there is plenty of reasons for Bamford owners to be encouraged. Coming so close to more returns against Leicester, combined with an impressive away record (10.7 points per game), it bodes well that three of Leeds’ next four Premier League matches are on the road.

Leeds United XI (4-1-4-1): Meslier; Dallas (Alioski 81′), Cooper, Koch, Ayling; Klich; Harrison, Shackleton (Poveda-Ocampo 46′), Hernández (Roberts 67′), Costa; Bamford.

Leicester City XI (3-4-2-1): Schmeichel; Fuchs, Fofana, Justin; L Thomas, N Mendy, Tielemans, Albrighton; H Barnes (Ünder 71′), Praet (Maddison 63′); Vardy (Morgan 85′).

    Im weighing up a16 / 20 ( yes 20 point hit)

    TAA - PVA
    Robbo - Coufal
    Saiss - Zouma
    Antonio - Kane (c)
    Brewster - Vardy
    Sterling - Zaha

Debating depending on injury : James to Grealish as a longterm move,

I can see actually come off as i see the points as follows :
    (2) - (6)
    (2) - (5)
    (0) - (6)
    (0) - (20)
    (2) - (6)
    (5) - (5)

And basically using Kane captain to fix my team longterm.

    Yes ?

        I always avoids hit

Have take 1 hit this year- But im falling alot, down to nearly 700k and made a number of wrong calls.

Feel like this week City - Liverpool match is a good game to try and leverage the team into a good position where many players will hit a low score in that game

700k is fine at this stage. I think with the IB coming up its a good time to be patient if possible and then reassess after that.

Yes i can for sure see this point

I am too and frow all week

            But the
            Son Salah Grealish Zaha midfield
with Kane + Vardy up top is consistently scoring

I looked at getting it in week 4 and 6, but kept staying with Sterling + big defence

Its starting to feel like a year where Leicester won the league - where the cheap ( Grealish / Zaha) will be able to almost match the premiums ( Sterling / KDB), which sounds crazy in writing but at some point we have to shift.

Just play your wildcard. Anything more than 8 point hit, typically doesnt pay you back to be worthwhile. There is no guarantee that your new team even outscored your existing team next gameweek. Have patience and plan your changes over time or play your wildcard. Good luck.

I wildcard week 2, which went very well initially. Was 30k midweek and was around 100k first few weeks consistently
Last 3 weeks have been consistent big reds, despite being patient and no hits.

But now I have many injuries and a team which looks like last years template

All data ( liverpool defence) + City poor attack is showing i am doing it wrong this year

Sometimes it's for the best though, -20 is ridiculous really, spread it out and do 2x -8 and that will be good enough to fix basically any team

Less is more, look at the fixtures and plan a little bit more. You simply can't sell Sterling now for Zaha for -4.

I am probably as frustrated as you are in this crisis, but DO calm down.

All swings on your Kane prediction but hell why not it's only a game. Would certainly make the game week exciting, more than I would risk though starting -20

20 points hit is completely against my way of playing this game anyway so won’t comment on the overall approach but why do you assume 0 points for Saiss and Antonio? I assume you must have one or two playing bench players?

Ya i went with this strategy this week

Yet Dallas scored and Brewster missed a 50/50 chance. Just bad luck. Brewster was 2nd on my bench but Lamptey stayed there. It was a close call, and could have gone either way.

Tbh I have once taken "as semicasual" -20 for dgw and got nice big green arrow. Ditched all the deadwood and got Whu and (Liverpool?) players in. (Lanzini and somebody else hauled) and both teams had good run after that, so it helped in the long run. But these transfers could be season definining and for worse.

What is your team and plan for fixture change?

    9. Vlekz
        3 years, 4 months ago

The points prediction for right side excluding the 2x score for can is 21.74 on FFHUB. You can't literally pin point exact scores to people for 1 GW and for all we know city Liverpool can be 0-0.
Such major hits imo should work out over 3-5 weeks to make sense.
I could be totally wrong. Just my take on it

        1. Vlekz
            3 years, 4 months ago

I missed a player probably. Right side (after hits) is 25.89

C - Saiss out is a must and Ziyech could pay back the hit if he starts and Pulisic is benched and comes on

Thanks. Even if I WC the week after it’s still worth it? Also I could do the same moves with Davies? Both have to go obviously

Try putting together a hypothetical WC team for the time you're considering WC'ing.

Then ask yourself whether there is enough to gain from waiting one or two more weeks -- if you're having an injury crisis, there may not be.

Problem I have is I want Kane and Son this GW! But I want to spend the Kane and/or Son money on WC to get City (which I don’t want this week over Spurs!)

I have the following three issues and one FT

Have a viable squad which all play so what’s my priority this week

          A. Get rid Klich. Playing so deep without Philips
          B. Get rid of one of Trent or robbo
          C. Get rid pulisic

Guess depends on fitness of C to a large extent ?

I think, Klopp finally leans toward accepting, that Firmino - Jota rotation (also in the league) is not a bad idea. Bobby doesn't have the form he entertained us in previous seasons. Today's game might be testing the line-up, we might soon see in the PL

If he nails down a starting spot given he is classified as a midfielder he would become absolutely essential at 6.3m

Currently working towards a midfield of Salah / Son / KDB / Jrod / Soucek. Don't think it's worth it at the moment, but if he continues getting good game time then Salah > Jota could be a decent option to then go Soucek > Bruno.

Son / KDB / Bruno / Jrod / Jota is a decent midfield!

            Yes imo

Polls are way off the mark saying things like Texes is in play.If it was both teams would have been doing some late campaigning there.

The states they were visiting during the last week or so says a lot about where the race is really at.
I suggest to you that the bookies have left themselves exposed to punters on this one.

Watch out for early tally's from states like Florida,North Carolina,Pennsylvania,Ohio,Iowa and the rust belt states which give us a good idea which way the wind is blowing on this.

Big game day turnout bodes well for the red team.

Looking forward to all the drama anyways either way and i will be staying up late tonight to take in the action. 🙂
