Four clubs set to play three fixtures across Blank and Double Gameweeks

Fantasy Premier League managers have been thrown a wonderful New Year’s Eve gift by the powers that be with Thursday’s fixture rearrangements.

Manchester United’s Gameweek 1 trip to Burnley has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 12, putting it into Blank Gameweek 18.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are now due to host Aston Villa on Wednesday, January 20, adding to an already bumper edition of fixtures in Double Gameweek 19.

With these changes to the schedule it now means the following clubs all play in Blank Gameweek 18 and have two fixtures in Double Gameweek 19.

  • Aston Villa
  • Burnley
  • Manchester City
  • Manchester United

So what does this mean for Fantasy managers? Well, regardless of chip strategy, it makes assets from these four clubs more appealing in the coming weeks, especially the two Manchester sides.

The additional of the Red Devils’ favourable trip to Burnley makes life a little easier for anyone considering the Free Hit chip in Blank Gameweek 18 simply because the pool of players has expanded.

As a result, the margin for potential success is arguably wider now as the chances of identical Free Hit squads will go down with an additional fixture. The same is true of Double Gameweek 19 although the list of potentially explosive assets was already rather high.

Either way, two more active teams in Blank Gameweek 18 (raising the total from 10 to 12) arguably decreases the need for using a chip either during or before that round.

Those looking to hold onto their second Wildcard now have an easier route to tackle Blank Gameweek 18 and Double Gameweek 19 side-by-side with their free transfers considering there are now four clubs who play three matches across them.

Manchester City and Manchester United are likely to help form the spine for Fantasy teams across the globe in light of their appealing fixtures and array of decent options.

However, there are a few complications to consider, not least the fact that it has not been disclosed which players at Manchester City have tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last week.

Thankfully, their next match (a trip to Chelsea) is challenging enough to put off investment anyway and we might get more information about the COVID cases either in the pre-match or post-match press conferences, if not from the team-sheet itself.

Manchester City’s next six fixtures

  • Gameweek 17: Chelsea (away)
  • Blank Gameweek 18: Brighton (home)
  • Double Gameweek 19: Crystal Palace (home) + Aston Villa (home)
  • Gameweek 20: West Bromwich Albion (away)
  • Gameweek 21: Sheffield United (home)
  • Gameweek 22: Burnley (away)

Manchester United’s next six fixtures

  • Gameweek 17: Aston Villa (home)
  • Blank Gameweek 18: Burnley (away)
  • Double Gameweek 19: Liverpool (away) + Fulham (home)
  • Gameweek 20: Sheffield United (home)
  • Gameweek 21: Arsenal (away)
  • Gameweek 22: Southampton (home)

Aston Villa’s next six fixtures

  • Gameweek 17: Manchester United (away)
  • Blank Gameweek 18: Spurs (home)
  • Double Gameweek 19: Everton (home) + Manchester City (away)
  • Gameweek 20: Burnley (away)
  • Gameweek 21: Southampton (away)
  • Gameweek 22: West Ham (home)

Burnley’s next six fixtures

  • Gameweek 17: Fulham (home)
  • Blank Gameweek 18: Manchester United (home)
  • Double Gameweek 19: West Ham (away) + Liverpool (away)
  • Gameweek 20: Aston Villa (home)
  • Gameweek 21: Chelsea (away)
  • Gameweek 22: Manchester City (home)

How much will I regret using my 2nd WC this week? Feel very ill-prepared to navigate 18 and 19. The WC would be 15 strong players, hopefully prepared enough to navigate the chaos that will follow.

I am without a FH, so I'm a bit baffled on how to navigate these.

Yep, however unfortunately had 4 players in that AVL/NEW game and also lost a few players to injury that week, ended up with.6 starters without the FH.

    1 FT 0.2 ITB

    Martinez, Johnstone
    Robertson, Dallas, KWP, Taylor**, Mitchell*
    Salah, KDB, Fernandes, Grealish, Bissouma*
    Bamford, DCL*, Adam’s

Disaster for me. Was planning KDB -> Son this week as need spurs cover, Free hit will have to be in 18

There is no way I can bench boost in 19 now is there? Will have to do Son back to KDB then I’ve got Taylor, Mitchell, Bissouma and DCL.

I’ll just have to triple captain won’t I?

    Any better suggestions?

Welcome to a round-up of the Fantasy Football Scout mini-leagues and community competitions following a chaotic Gameweek 16 in which two matches were called off at short notice days after the deadline and many well-owned players were rotated because of the extremely short turnaround between fixtures. Many of us struggled to field anything like a full team, but others somehow managed to emerge relatively unscathed. It was also the last Gameweek in which the First Wildcard could be played, and quite a few managers did so.

      FFSCOUT OPEN FPL LEAGUE

Maruf Hossain is still top of the Fantasy Football Scout mini-league (league code 5u05vz) as he has been ever since he joined it in Gameweek 10. He is seven points ahead of Will Thorp and has regained fourth place overall.

We are now the Best League in FPL based on the average score of the top five teams in each league, overtaking Pro Pundit Andy LTFPL’s http://www.youtube.com/letstalkfpl which remains in second place.
Our current top five are Maruf Hossain, Will Thorp, Mr Ben Greener, Ziad Hosny and Dipak Khatiwada, who are respectively 4th, 6th, 12th, 13th and 45th in the overall rankings.

      FFSCOUT COMMUNITY MEMBERS LEAGUE

Maruf is also still top of our Fantasy Football Scout Community Members mini-league, where he has extended his lead over Peter Barone to 29 points.
Josh Paulin was the Manager of the Month for December with 438 points in the last six Gameweeks after wildcarding in GW10 and rising from 1.751m in Gameweek 10 to 90k now. He wins a £50 Amazon voucher.
This mini-league is open to anyone with a registered Fantasy Football Scout account – paid or free; the code is shown on the Members home page and in the Scout Leagues widget when signed in.

      HEAD-TO-HEAD LEAGUES

Ville Tuominen (Santigold) won again in League 1 and now has 36 points out of a possible 48, two points ahead of Tim Hill.
Chris Astin (League 7 Division 18), Jeffin Jose (League 9 Division 62) and Atang Bingana (League 9 Division 122), with 45 points each, are the highest scoring managers in the head-to-head leagues.
See our main Head-to-Head page for further information about the head-to-head leagues.

      LAST MAN STANDING

TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition is open until Gameweek 18, but new entrants must have passed all previous safety scores to qualify; the code is 48n69x.
The safety score for Gameweek 16 was34 points, with 134 managers eliminated and 1,387 going through to Gameweek 17, when the elimination threshold will rise to 9% and at least another 125 will be removed.

      ELITE COMMUNITY MINI-LEAGUES

Alaa Khaled Mokhtar has regained the lead in my Top 10k Any Season mini-league (league code: 8kcvzq). He is now up to 266th overall, ten points ahead of Andy Short. Last week’s leader Bob Wooster drops to fifth.

Andy is now up to 528th overall and is still top of Skooldaze’s FPL Vets 2006 or before mini-league, where he has increased his lead over Anoop K to 67 points.

Mike Varcoe still tops PDM’s Top 1k ANY season mini-league (league code: 2agvvx), 15 points ahead of Luis Teixara, despite slipping to 1,101st overall

Mike also still tops Chaballer’s Hall of Fame >Top 1k< mini-league (league code: mr8dyh), 33 points ahead of Pro Pundit Fabio Borges.
Fabio is number one in our Career Hall of Fame and Mike 358th.

Burhan Samaan (Suarezista) still tops my Multiple Top 10k Finishes mini-league (league code: 8t42p6). He is now up to 12,167th overall, with an increased lead of 16 points over Elias Kharma (@FPLMason).

2009/10 Champion Jon Reeson played his Wildcard and took the lead in Simon March’s closely contested FPL Champions League. He is now up to 243k overall, three points ahead of last week’s leader (2017/18 Champion Yusuf Sheikh) and six ahead of 2013/14 Champion Tom Fenley.

      PROS AND CONS

Fabio Borges is still the highest ranked of our Pro Pundits and is now up to 10,218th overall after playing his Wildcard, but Darren Wiles is only two points behind him at 11,615th.

The Fantasy Football Scout Network mini-league is for the Scout Network and includes six of the other nine Pro Pundits.
FFS Front End Developer Joe Collett still leads after playing his Wildcard and is up to 27,204th overall, nine points ahead of Beraht Thapa (Americans Talk FPL).

Another Pro Pundit, Andy LTFPL, is still top of the FFS Mods & Cons mini-league and is up to 37,494th overall, two points ahead of Jack Penn (ZoumasBloomers).

      OTHER COMMUNITY MINI-LEAGUES

Daniel Coughlan still tops Greyhead’s The Next Great and The Good mini-league and is up to 6,007th overall, three points ahead of Les Caldwell.

My January to May League (league code h62bh1) will start scoring in Gameweek 17. Last season this was won by Will Timbers (TopMarx); nearly 550 teams have already entered.

Plans might need to be altered but a chance to, possibly, hold onto a chip with more games in GW18 and 19 has gotta be better than losing players to COVID last GW. Only a few hours left of 2021, we can bé optimistic for this New Year.

      Merry New Year.

Grealish not been great recently and Villa have more, if not better, attacking options this season. Spurs content to grind out results rather than kill with goals. Might switch Kane out someway if Dé Bruyne kicks up the gears.

So, I was all set for FH18 and BB19, and still think I'm doing this, BUT.
Would you do the following with DWG19 in mind

Cresswell, Son, DCL -> Lowton, KDB, Adams (-4)

I got a lot of value tied up in DCL and Son

Not based in his form so far. He's not playing badly but City are below their high standards and the attackers he usually assists or assist him aren't there or playing great football. Weirdly the City defence is doing well though that might be because their attack has a lot of possession, just not clinical enough.

Yeah, I feel you on this, but KDB as looked sharp imo, just unlucky to not get the points. But I think you are right. No need to rip my team up to get him in. Getting him in after the doubles if he is showing some sort of form. Thanks mate

With the fixture news I'm now thinking of BBing in DGW19 instead of Free Hitting.

I have Cavaleiro in my team who has a double but it's two tough fixtures (CHE + MUN) and he is likely to disappoint.

Should I dump him or keep him because he has a double and focus transfers elsewhere?

Is anyone else leaning away from free hit 18 and bench boost gw 19?

I can with a hit get to 8 maybe 9 players in 18 and have 11 double GW players in 19. TC KDB or Salah or Fernandes.

We know more double game weeks are coming and it’s much easier to set up bench boost with wildcard anyway

        I’m now looking at FH18 and TC19

I might still do that. My only other issue is the point of a free hit is points difference from main team.

Since I’ll probably (c) Bruno or KDB and already have them. I’m really looking at free hit to get 4 or 5 better players for a full 11.

Maybe gets me 20-30 points more. Not bad but I think I could do better

Nope. If anything, it reinforces mine.

I had Martinez, Grealish, KdB still in the team that just got additional DGWs to BB.

My team is set up to FH18 and BB19. The United game being added is good because I can get an additional United player in. I'm on 13 DGW players for 19 plus Son and an injured Taylor.

That’s a great position to be in. I was slowly getting there but injuries have mounted up

FH18. No chip probably in GW though might TC. How's your 11 gonna look the weeks after GW19?

      Play Saka or Watkins?

      Captain Kane, Bruno or Salah?

Today's announcement has actually made me less keen to use BB19 rather than more. To gain more City and United players (only have Dias and Bruno), I need to spend the money on the first XI, not the bench. FH18 also seems like a waste with fewer missing fixtures, and prevents me from making a FT in 18 that will not be immediately reversed.

Leaning toward no chip 18, TC19, WC25, BB26, FH29. Take a couple of hits now if needed.

Thought about it, but would rather just take the hits needed to get City/United players as they have great fixtures for a long time, then WC25 to redistribute some funds into the bench.

City in particular could have a DGW19, DGW24, and DGW26 before their next BGW.
