Scout Notes

Mitchell benefits from Palace’s first clean sheet since Gameweek 1

Crystal Palace 2-0 Sheff Utd

  • Goals: Jeffrey Schlupp (£5.4m), Eberechi Eze (£5.8m)
  • Assist: Christian Benteke (£5.5m), James McArthur (£5.2m)
  • Bonus points: McArthur x3, James Tomkins x2 (£4.5m), Vicente Guaita x1 (£4.8m)

TYRICKSHANK RICKDEMPTION

Tyrick Mitchell (£3.9m) made a swift return to the Fantasy Premier League spotlight in Gameweek 17 as he played all 90 minutes of Crystal Palace’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United.

The left-back was a key component of budget defensive rotations earlier in the campaign but lost his place to Patrick van Aanholt (£5.4m) in Gameweek 7.

After going nine Premier League matches without registering a single minute, Mitchell came back for the Gameweek 16 draw with Leicester in what appeared to be Roy Hodgson exercising some festive rotation

However, against Sheffield United, the 21-year-old held onto the left-back berth six days after Crystal Palace’s Gameweek 16 fixture, the fact that van Aanholt was on the bench again heavily indicating Mitchell has established himself in the first team once again.

How often his 15.1% ownership will start him in the coming weeks remains to be seen considering the Eagles’ next two matches take them to Arsenal and Manchester City.

Meanwhile, their clean sheet on Saturday was just Palace’s second of the campaign, the first since Gameweek 1. And, of course, it was recorded against the Premier League’s worst attack Sheffield United, who have scored just eight goals in 17 matches so far (0.5 per game).

Still, finally having another starting defender in this price bracket could come in very handy over the coming weeks, especially with Max Kilman (£4.1m) recently losing his place for Wolves.

THAT WAS EZE

Wilfried Zaha (£7.4m) could be on the chopping board for his 22% ownership ahead of Double Gameweek 19.

Palace have just one fixture in that round, arguably one the hardest possible in a trip to Manchester City, who have the joint-best home defence this season (seven goals conceded).

He goes into the mini chip season on the back of five blanks from a possible six since Gameweek 12, his only goal in that time coming against Leicester.

In Saturday’s win over Sheffield United, the Ivory Coast international did play well, driving the ball forward for Palace’s opening goal, only to end up the assister for the assister. He crossed to Christian Benteke (£5.5m), who teed up Jeffrey Schlupp (£5.4m) for the finish.

It was Eberechi Eze (£5.8m) who stole the show against Sheffield United though, pressing into unguarded space in Sheffield United’s midfield and shrugging off Ethan Ampadu before rolling a cultured finish beyond Aaron Ramsdale (£4.7m) in first-half stoppage time.

While the former QPR man only has one goal in the last three Gameweeks, it is worth highlighting that is the same number as Zaha, who has played more minutes in that time.

After missing out on the starting XI in Gameweeks 16 and 17, any questions over Eze’s place in the team were eased by a first-half injury to Jeffrey Schlupp (£5.4m), as well as his impressive performance.

After scoring the game’s opening goal, a hamstring issue forced the former Leicester man off, which Hodgson described as “concerning”.

“[The injury to] Benteke is a dead leg. Schlupp is more concerning. A muscle injury, his hamstring.” – Roy Hodgson

Crystal Palace XI (4-4-2): Guaita; Mitchell, Kouyaté, Tomkins, J Ward; Schlupp (Eze 40′), Milivojevic (Riedewald 90+5′), McArthur, A Townsend; Zaha, Benteke (Ayew 48′).

Sheffield United XI (3-5-2): Ramsdale; Stevens, Egan, Ampadu; Osborn (Hackford 80′), Fleck, Norwood, Basham, Bogle; Mousset (Brewster 61′), McGoldrick.

No. Why spunk it for effectively 3 players who could easily blank. Save it for a proper rainy day. This is just a shower.

Not sure I get this attitude. Saving it for a “rainy day” which may never really come. Players can always blank, but this week gives you some excellent options.

FWIW I would personally free hit on that side

I agree, Your more likely to have strong bench for BB if you WC. The Blank games and DGW Only a few days apart. If games are hit you can still transfer out etc.

If you are using TC then makes sense to FH.

Nothing but a gut feeling for sterling. I just think that he will come good. Probably more of a rotation risk though.
No rush with any transfers at the moment for me, as I've got 3m in the bank to cover any rises.
I'm hoping that covid does not force me to play any chips over gw18-20.

Salah->KDB is fine for GW18. Being without Salah in GW19 is (probably) not fine.

            True. Planning this:

            Martnez
            Dias Dallas Coufal
            Salah KDB Bruno Son Soucek
            Vardy Bamford

Son the only SGWer I am planning to go with.

Yeah sometimes it's about covering your bases. KDB hasn't been firing but will be well owned and captained with two good fixtures. If he gets 20+ it's a red arrow.

Salah to sterling another option and gives more money in the bank to afford a city defender

          Advice needed for GW 18

          Option A:
          Martinez
Cancelo, Stones, (-4 for another defender or go without)
          Grealish, Fernandes, Son, Sterling, Rashford
          Watkins, DCL

          Option B:
          Leno
          Cancelo, Stones, Kilman,
          Zaha, Fernandes, Son, Sterling, Rashford
          Martial, Wilson

Sure option B will score more but is it enough more to make it worth using the free hit?

          Martinez
          Konsa Taylor Mitchell
          Bruno Son
          Kane

Not with 2ft’s. Just bring in city and Utd players with them.

So surely salah is someone you own, with 2ft, do salah to kdb, and Taylor to dias. Swap either kdb back to salah after or son to salah. You then have 9 players and no need for free hit

They say that's the reason but we all know why the PL don't want us knowing.

I get the confidentiality angle but we've gone from you fulfill a fixture if you have 14 fit players to getting games called off with less than half a dozen cases.

It’s simply the risk to others (ie the team they are playing) rather than the numbers imo. Imagine Fulham played Spurs and Kane and son come down with covid. It would open up law suits in the future should they get long covid etc.

Pep already said that you will only be able to know who has/had covid by who is not in the squad.

He never indicated that there would be any kind of announcement of who it is. So not sure why you were expecting an announcement

Honestly, I know everyone says Cancelo is risky etc...

But, he's basically missed ONE game in the last 12 GW's. Not much of a risk really is it?

And, in terms of attacking threat v's Dias, they are not even comparable!

Cancelo all day long for me

This is my current plan as I feel 19 is perfectly set up to BB particularly with West Ham defence and Leeds attack.

Just go on your transfers page and play around with it and see what you can and can't do is the best way to do it.

I'm personally playing only TC in 19 as my team is well set up for both BGW & DGW (though no way I can do a BB in 19)

I'm going the FH route but this seems a good strategy too.

That was my initial plan but I'd now need a -8 to get KDB in 19 so I think I would prefer to WC

Yes. See my provisional wildcard team.

            Martinez (Meslier)
            Dias-Stones-Awb (Creswell,Coufal)
            KDB-Bruno-Son (Raphinha,Soucek)
            Kane-Watkins (Bamford)

Got enough money to do Kane&Son -> Vardy & Salah in gw19.

This is what I'm talking about. The City DGW has changed my plans and now considering the WC in this sort of way.

This strategy suited my team better and like posted above I see this as a opportunity to attack and set my team nicely to gw19 and great fixtures for Manchester teams after dgw.

I did it this week in prep for FH team and BB. I’m able to field a team of 9 for blank GW and it leaves me well set up for BB.

Nice one, similar thinking. I think I'll go for it.

Thoughts on Mendy to Pope -4? means I have a playing 11 for this gw and want Pope long term.

It seems i am okish for gw18, however constantly loosing ground on my rivals... tempted to WC and change it completely.

What do you think? Have 2 FTs

          (McCarthy, Forster)
          Targett Dier Cancelo, Mitchel (coufal)
          Son KDB Bruno (Salah Soucek)
          DCL Watkins (Bamford)
          2FTs, 0.1

If you want to waste your WC, then yeh, why not go for it 😉

You have the core players for BGW18 already and 2FT's. Not sure what you will achieve with WC, and you'll end up with mostly the same core players anyway

Some people are and could be golden. Uncertainty re. Covid that is one reason why people are being cautious.

Your set up with 2Fts is fine, though I'm not sure I can see much to do.

Thoughts on Pogba? If he keeps playing AML he becomes an interesting cut-price option to Rashford

Don’t think he’s a good FPL asset as of now, tbh. Would wait. Definitely Rash Martial Bruno the ones to look at in terms of United attacking assets. Other than that, I’d look elsewhere

Too risky. He won't get many points from Turin for example.

Any thoughts on this strategy mates?

          Current team:

          Martinez
          Dier; Dias; Cancelo
          KDB; Son; Salah; Bruno; Bowen
          DCL; Adams

          X, Mitchell; Brewster; Kilman

GW18: Bowen Kilman —> Saka Holding (free)
GW19: DCL —> Antonio or Bamford
GW20: Dier —> Chilwelll (or other that would allow me to improve elsewhere)

          Cheers!
