Mitchell benefits from Palace’s first clean sheet since Gameweek 1

Crystal Palace 2-0 Sheff Utd

  • Goals: Jeffrey Schlupp (£5.4m), Eberechi Eze (£5.8m)
  • Assist: Christian Benteke (£5.5m), James McArthur (£5.2m)
  • Bonus points: McArthur x3, James Tomkins x2 (£4.5m), Vicente Guaita x1 (£4.8m)

TYRICKSHANK RICKDEMPTION

Tyrick Mitchell (£3.9m) made a swift return to the Fantasy Premier League spotlight in Gameweek 17 as he played all 90 minutes of Crystal Palace’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United.

The left-back was a key component of budget defensive rotations earlier in the campaign but lost his place to Patrick van Aanholt (£5.4m) in Gameweek 7.

After going nine Premier League matches without registering a single minute, Mitchell came back for the Gameweek 16 draw with Leicester in what appeared to be Roy Hodgson exercising some festive rotation

However, against Sheffield United, the 21-year-old held onto the left-back berth six days after Crystal Palace’s Gameweek 16 fixture, the fact that van Aanholt was on the bench again heavily indicating Mitchell has established himself in the first team once again.

How often his 15.1% ownership will start him in the coming weeks remains to be seen considering the Eagles’ next two matches take them to Arsenal and Manchester City.

Meanwhile, their clean sheet on Saturday was just Palace’s second of the campaign, the first since Gameweek 1. And, of course, it was recorded against the Premier League’s worst attack Sheffield United, who have scored just eight goals in 17 matches so far (0.5 per game).

Still, finally having another starting defender in this price bracket could come in very handy over the coming weeks, especially with Max Kilman (£4.1m) recently losing his place for Wolves.

THAT WAS EZE

Wilfried Zaha (£7.4m) could be on the chopping board for his 22% ownership ahead of Double Gameweek 19.

Palace have just one fixture in that round, arguably one the hardest possible in a trip to Manchester City, who have the joint-best home defence this season (seven goals conceded).

He goes into the mini chip season on the back of five blanks from a possible six since Gameweek 12, his only goal in that time coming against Leicester.

In Saturday’s win over Sheffield United, the Ivory Coast international did play well, driving the ball forward for Palace’s opening goal, only to end up the assister for the assister. He crossed to Christian Benteke (£5.5m), who teed up Jeffrey Schlupp (£5.4m) for the finish.

It was Eberechi Eze (£5.8m) who stole the show against Sheffield United though, pressing into unguarded space in Sheffield United’s midfield and shrugging off Ethan Ampadu before rolling a cultured finish beyond Aaron Ramsdale (£4.7m) in first-half stoppage time.

While the former QPR man only has one goal in the last three Gameweeks, it is worth highlighting that is the same number as Zaha, who has played more minutes in that time.

After missing out on the starting XI in Gameweeks 16 and 17, any questions over Eze’s place in the team were eased by a first-half injury to Jeffrey Schlupp (£5.4m), as well as his impressive performance.

After scoring the game’s opening goal, a hamstring issue forced the former Leicester man off, which Hodgson described as “concerning”.

“[The injury to] Benteke is a dead leg. Schlupp is more concerning. A muscle injury, his hamstring.” – Roy Hodgson

Crystal Palace XI (4-4-2): Guaita; Mitchell, Kouyaté, Tomkins, J Ward; Schlupp (Eze 40′), Milivojevic (Riedewald 90+5′), McArthur, A Townsend; Zaha, Benteke (Ayew 48′).

Sheffield United XI (3-5-2): Ramsdale; Stevens, Egan, Ampadu; Osborn (Hackford 80′), Fleck, Norwood, Basham, Bogle; Mousset (Brewster 61′), McGoldrick.

I'm starting to think a boring 4-4-2 might be the way to go for the blank.

    Something like...

    Darlow
    Cancelo - Dias - Tierney - Maguire
Bruno - Son -KDB - Saka
    Kane - Wilson

Anyone considering FH for 18, instead thinking about using a WC to set themselves up for 18 & 19 and then BB in 19?

Yeah. Attack those City, United, Villa fixtures and get a massive boost from BB19. Only concern for me is what my team is well set up for 18 so I may as well ride it out and FH19 instead

Some are. But, the way the fixtures have fallen with City, Villa, Utd & Burnley having 3 games in 2GW's...

I think many (including myself) will be able to get a decent BGW & DGW side without using FH or WC.

I'm using TC in 19 and will have 9 + Brewster in BGW and 10 DGWers plus Kane. No hits either.

I did that for GW17, it helped me save the FH & now get 2 free for the double in GW19

I thought about WC, but my team is already set up for the DGW so it would be a waste.

I will use FH, then use WC to navigate next set of blanks and doubles.

If you had to choose 1 from each of these for GW18 onwards who would you go with?

    A) Son (Villa A, Shef A, Liv H, Brighton A, Chels H, WB H, ManC A)
    B) KDB (Brighton H, Pal H, Villa H, WB A, Shef H, Burnley A, Liv A, Spurs H)

(I'll have no other Spurs or City attacking coverage in that time)

Also the same question but for GW19 onwards

    1) Cresswell (Burnley H, WB H, Pal A, Liv H, Villa A, Ful A, Shef H, Spurs H)
    2) Zouma (Ful A, Lei A, Wol H, Bur H, Spurs A, Shef A, Newc H)

      Repost
Got 8 players for blank gameweek. Not bench boosting in 19 as not enough decent players on bench.
Considering free hit in 18 but can I just check something.
So gameweek 26 is a double and I could wildcard in 25, bb in 26 then would I need free hit for 29 because none of the double gameweek players play in that? Is that correct? Seems a lot of people are free hitting now but that will limit you a lot later?

I think FH18 could be a waste since Ars-Cry could end up 1-1 and MCI-BHA might end up 1-0 or 2-0 so doubling up defense is better for MCI in case no KDB (although it's better to have him in GW19)

WC,BB,FH later could be gold, by that time, Covid-19 could eased over and more predictable schedule

      Maxed out FH team:

      Leno
      Stones Dias Saiss
      KDB Bruno Rashford Son Saka
      Kane Laca

Missing Utd defence, Wilson and Grealish. Would you want any of these instead of what's in draft?

Lots of shouts for Bruno, Kane, Son, KDB. Got them all. Had a draft with Sterling too but that meant 5x 4.0s or below so currently on Mahrez.

Saka definitely a great budget option and he’s in. I’m currently on Tierney, AWB Dias in defence.

        3-5-2
        Martinez
        Tierney, AWB, Dias
        Bruno, KDB, Mahrez, Son, Saka
        Kane, Wilson

I love that there are different free hit teams....

Must have - Bruno, at least one city attacker (although I’m happy to double up), Kane /son and Wilson vs shef is pretty obvious

Very much like. - defense/goalie from city, Man U, arsenal and toon. Only willing to double up city, but prefer double city attack.

        Saka makes it all work

        DDG
        Dias. Holding. Yedlin
        Kdb. Sterling. Bruno. Son. Sake
        Kane. Wilson

Only question is sterling vs aguero for me

still leaves KDB, Bruno, Son, Grealish, Saka, with Kane and Wilson up front. Only trouble is bench is rather weak with covid about.

For me Spurs are really overrated. It was obvious they would easily beat Leeds cause they can sit back and counter. However against teams that sit back like Sheffield they’ve struggled to break them down.

If only. With Arteta, you feel he's just one mediocre performance or a rest away from becoming a bit-part. In this formation, though, he has to be first choice unless a replacement comes in January. But Tets could always try out a 433 or go back to 343 for some games.

Not really. I do believe Arteta would drop/rotate Auba or play according to tactics, perhaps for Martinelli next game, for example. But this post isn't really applicable to him as he fits into every formation. Smith Rowe has only been playing as a 10 in these recent games he's come in and made a difference. Arteta is also all about protecting the younger players and easing them in slowly. Arsenal has a history of putting ressure on young talent and harming them mentally or physically.

This. Arteta seems to completely pick his teams based off the previous game. So he's only a bad performance away from being dropped. That said, he is absolutely class and dropping him now for the likes of Willian would not go down well with fans...plus..he's £4.4m

I think he is for the short term yeah unless he has a couple of bad games. Partey will come back at the expense of Ceballos.. there is noone else who can play in that 10 role really apart from Willock ,who's not very good.

Plan in place, let’s see if price changes/COVID break it!

      BGW18:
      Salah to KdB
      Cresswell to Cancelo

      10 players, transfers for free

      DGW19:
      Son to Salah
      DCL to Brewster/Davis
      Targett to Cresswell/Coufal

10 DGWers plus Kane, transfers (-8)
      TC KdB/Salah/Bruno

My issue is, possibly because of team value is I can’t build a decent BB team which has KdB and a City defender.
I think the City fixtures should be targeted more, hence TC seems the only viable chip for my setup

Not keen on the Aguero punt.

It's pure nostalgia and nothing else. He has zero goals this season, has been a train wreck for injuries and is not even guaranteed a start until he's proven his fitness.

I'd play safe and go Kane instead

I would love if Kun proves this wrong but as i said i will see how he looks vs Chelsea first and if i deem he's pretty much nailed to start vs Brighton then i think i'm probably brave (or stupid enough?!!) to take the punt, i'm languishing in about 2 million OR and doing really badly in mini-leagues i usually always win so need to take these kind of gambles? No use me FH'ing to a squad that all the non-FH'ers will have anyway? (actually considering going completely Spurless in all honesty for this reason alone!!). Big eyes on Kun later anyway and will decide post match.

I gamble fk all. Saw a movie years ago that a real gambler never bets on a sure thing. It's barely a high when that horse wins compared to the rush when a long shot does it. That doesn't answer your question but I'll let you know when M Pereira gets me 30 points in GW19 😉

      Hi all,

      Could really do with some advice if possible;

      I am FHing next week and will be able to field the following team with no hits for DGW19;

      Martinez
      Dias Dallas Coufal,
      Salah Bruno Son Grealish
      Vardy Bamford Adams

      4.0 Mitchell R.James* Bissouma*

So, I'll have 10 DGWers and Son.

Is it worth taking 3/4 hits to get in 4 more DGWers to bench boost or shall I just TC / Play my team how it is?

I'm just worried that other teams using BB will have potentially an extra 8 games and leapfrog me significantly!

      Cheers!!

None. S(t)on(es) is the closest I can get to a Son.

Salah, Vardy > De Bruyne, Lacazette worth a hit for -4? Then restoring Salah for gw19 (means dropping Vardy but Ars's fixtures slightly better)

Have there been any photos of Sterling and KDB training since the Covid outbreak with City ? Anyone know if they're good to play today?

      Cancelo or Dias?

Stats seem to be in Cancelo's favor but pretty big hype around Dias, who also just increased in price. Any specific reason to favor Dias over Cancelo?

      Thanks! 🙂

KDB and Salah will be the most popular but it will probably turn out to be Fernandes.

Thoughts on this FH team? Appreciate it’s probably quite template:

      Darlow
      Tierney, stones, shaw,
      KDB, Sterling, Bruno, Rashford, Saka
      Kane, Wilson

      Bench: Holding, Mitchell, Brewster

Rashford could also be Son, not sold on laca personally against cpl.

        Is Shaw nailed?
Depending on today’s game see which of Sterling or KDB is the better option?
As we saw yesterday if you only own Kane you get red arrows when both firing!

True on shaw seems to back in the starting line up though.

Think I want both KDB and Sterling though but of course will watch the game later too!
