The best Southampton players to consider for FPL Double Gameweek 25

Southampton come under the spotlight as we end our team-by-team look at the clubs with two fixtures in Double Gameweek 25.

After a strong start to the season, the Saints have completely fallen off a cliff, losing their last six games and conceding 20 goals.

As a result, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are choosing not to gamble on Saints assets, even with two games in Double Gameweek 25.

So is there anything to suggest Southampton could turn it around in Double Gameweek 25? We assess their FPL credentials in the Premium Members article below

THE FORM

Having started the season in fine form, the Saints hit the skids after a number of injuries to key personnel, particularly in defence.

After beating champions Liverpool, the Saints have lost their last six games by an aggregate score of 20-4.

What was once one of the league’s most solid defences is now the worst according to expected goals conceded (xGC) over the last six games.

Last six matches

The problem can’t just be laid at the door of injuries though.

In the south coast club’s last game against Wolves, they fielded arguably their first choice back-line, and still conceded two goals against one of the most goal-shy attacks in the league.

So can we rely on Southampton assets in Double Gameweek 25? To answer that question in more detail we will have to consider their upcoming opponents and the data behind their key players…

Debating to take a hit to triple up on Leeds: which of the combo is best for GW25?

Have exact money to WC this in 25 for BB in 26:

    Martinez, Areola
    Cancelo, Stones, Shaw, Rudiger, Ayling
    Salah, Bruno, Gundo, Son, Raphinha
    Kane, Bamford Watkins

Look good? Assuming all these have a double in 26...

So, if you're a Sterling owner (and especially if you're a p*ssed off Sterling captainer) what are you doing with him?

Seems mad to get rid with doubles coming, plus he scored against Arsenal earlier in the year. But is Foden a better and cheaper option to "downgrade" to?

Tempted to punt on JWP this week and then maybe switch to Foden, but there would be hits involved... So is it better to let Sterling have a few fixtures to redeem himself?

Yeah, he's been the biggest troll ever. Had him during project restart last summer, but missing the hauls. Then had him for most part of first half of season with meagre returns and eventually got rid, so last GW I thought now's the time - stats+form+fixtures - what could go wrong?

Sterling's completely failed the eye test for me.

With City piling so much pressure around the opponent's box, he's generally stuck out wide on the sideline - previously he's cut in from there and curled shots in, but his finishing and composure have been pap recently.

Those of you without FH left but using WC this gameweek, do you think 26 will be the best option for BB? As we don't have FH left we need to pick up about 6-7 players from GW29 playing teams (Leeds, Fulham, Brighton mainly), meaning we will not have double players in the bench for 26...

    Bruno Mo Gundo Barnes Raph
    Vardy Werner Bamford

Seems a nice balance between template and differential. Zero Spurs the obvious hole but both Chelsea and Leicester are on the up and have very tasty looking fixtures..

Ah I see, sorry didn't read your post properly. Quite like it actually, Werner a risk but the potential upside is huge if he starts bagging. Vardy is the one who would maybe worry me - think he'll have managed minutes and is an injury risk.

Have been suggesting Ederson over central defenders. He was keeping pace with them even before his assist. Guaranteed starts and similar price.

Losing Martinez the issue of course. But think I'd back Ederson and Targett over Martinez and Dias say - and it comes in cheaper,

I'll have only Dias (or Ederson) for gw25 then evaluate options before GW 26, it might by anyone, huge rotation incoming so even Foden/Mahrez/Bilva might be options, just need to pick and stick with that choice.

    Cancelo, Stones, Mee (Cresswell, Targett)
    Salah, Bruno, Gundo, (Soucek, Burke)
    Bamford, DCl, Watkins

    Planned moves:
GW25: Burke -> Raph, possibly Soucek -> Harrison or Cresswell -> Dallas, or hold 1FT
    GW26: Bamford -> Kane

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Getting into quite a muddle with the best strategy and options moving forward...
