The best Southampton players to consider for FPL Double Gameweek 25

Southampton come under the spotlight as we end our team-by-team look at the clubs with two fixtures in Double Gameweek 25.

After a strong start to the season, the Saints have completely fallen off a cliff, losing their last six games and conceding 20 goals.

As a result, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are choosing not to gamble on Saints assets, even with two games in Double Gameweek 25.

So is there anything to suggest Southampton could turn it around in Double Gameweek 25? We assess their FPL credentials in the Premium Members article below

THE FORM

Having started the season in fine form, the Saints hit the skids after a number of injuries to key personnel, particularly in defence.

After beating champions Liverpool, the Saints have lost their last six games by an aggregate score of 20-4.

What was once one of the league’s most solid defences is now the worst according to expected goals conceded (xGC) over the last six games.

Last six matches

The problem can’t just be laid at the door of injuries though.

In the south coast club’s last game against Wolves, they fielded arguably their first choice back-line, and still conceded two goals against one of the most goal-shy attacks in the league.

So can we rely on Southampton assets in Double Gameweek 25? To answer that question in more detail we will have to consider their upcoming opponents and the data behind their key players…

McCarthy for save points, but could equally end up on 0 for both games.

Is it mad to go without both Son and Kane next week? Considering dropping Son for Raphina and Antonio to Ings this week which gives me the exact money (currently, I'm sure it won't last) to get Kane in for Bamford next week and a frontline of Kane, Ings and Watkins with a midfield of Salah, Bruno, Grealish, Gundo and Raphina. Worth it?

No Kane and Son this week is fine, next week is tough imo.

Those moves are great for this GW, but the exact cash thing scares me

Definitely possible. I like the upside of Ings and Raph.

I won't be selling Son, though I'm waiting for GW26 to get Kane

Push comes to shove I can take a hit. Got Pope and Martinez so there's 1.5m there straight away if needed, BB already played so don't need 2 keepers.

        Cavani Bamford Antonio

        Johnstone Soucek Coufal Mitchell

I'm just pointing it out as people did actually bring in Forster based on these rumours last week and may do so on wildcard. I don't care as I'm not, but for a website which is on the pulse i don't think they should be reporting things are heresay

Your opinion is fine and may be valid (I can't see the content), but your phrasing could be a little less harsh (IMO).

If you're a member you obviously have faith in the info FFS provide. In that case help them better the content, if you find something that could be better/more clear etc, supply constructive feedback.

No "beef", just giving some constructive feedback myself.

I disagree. To put a rumour in a article is actually poor practice in itself. Especially if the rumour in question can be debunked with a 10 second google search.

I doubt the author will get hurt feelings for calling it lazy journalism. I'm sure they've heard much much worse.

You're assuming you know the schedule of the auther and that they have the time to search the internet for all scraps of info.

In this case, you're right it was an easy search (in isolation) but if they did that for every single player, and every vertical of data then the content would be few and far between.

Even if it was a mistake, appreciate the content is even available for you to read.

I don't know if I agree that the line is lazy, all it says is that there are rumours, which there are! They continue despite Hassenhuttl's comments.

I agree it could have mentioned that but I don't think it's that huge an omission?

Forster is £4m, I'm likely bringing him in on my WC as my bench fodder on the off chance the rumour becomes reality.

Asked whether he had considered keeping Forster in for more league games, Hasenhuttl said: “No. I have seen the games and I cannot see many mistakes from Alex.

“In the last game (against Newcastle) there was one, the third goal wasn’t looking good.

“But with the other two, there was no chance to make a save. He kept us so often in games this season.”

That's not likely to happen. Managers don't tend to chop and change keepers. The moral of a keeper is something to keep high, so he'd only drop him if he did a bunch of clangers in a row.

Or he rotates them both equally to keep the "competition" element (VERY unlikely).

Vardy first - think he's a really interesting pick.

Not sure that his potential double is that much worse than the Spurs one - Chelsea are likely to get a really tough one. There's been little sign of Vardy managed minutes and I can't see Rodgers wanting to miss out on CL again.

Werner from 27 has a great fixture run.

        Edging back to Bruno

Neither Raph nor Bamford are regulars with double digits - just 4 between them I think. Bruno of course has several. Think the likely ceiling for all 3 is similar when you factor in SGW and DGW.

I missed out on a 41 point Bench Boost of Pope, Lowton, Rudiger, Lookman last week. Backed out of it at the 11th hour and didn't do the 2 transfers to complete the boost.

Im not sure there will be better chances. With rotation in the top squads prevalent, you cant target the bigger teams with safety - or else their players are out of budget. Better off with mid-table teams that are in form at the time.

Plus, this chip is now actively contending with the TC chip.

Torn on whether to be safe or proactive!

      A) Roll 1FT to GW26 and then:
      1. Antonio, Pope > Kane, fodder (2FT)
      2. Antonio, Son > Kane, Barnes/ Maddison (2FT)
      3. Antonio, DCL > Vardy, Watkins (2FT)

      B) Antonio > Ings for free this week and then one of the above in GW26 for -4

      1FT 3.4itb
      Pope
      Dias, Dallas, Shaw
      Salah, Bruno, Son, Gundogan, Raphinha
      Bamford (C), DCL
      (Martinez) (Stones, Antonio, Coufal)

Planning TC in 26 and WC in 30 prob.
      Cheers!

martinez, because Leicester will have 50 pea roller shots from 40 yards and Martinez will score 25 points.

Which team would you consider less of an attacking threat between WBA and CRY?

Choosing between Areola + Sanchez for the BB basically.
