We’ve been spoiled so far this summer. After 12 consecutive days of football which have harvested 24 games, Euro 2012 is taking a rare day off tomorrow before the knockout stages begin on Thursday evening at 7.45pm. As Group A winners Czech Republic ready themselves to take on Portugal in the first of the quarter finals, we’ve rolled out the Captain Poll for you to have your say:

Michal Bilek’s side arrive in strong form for Thursday’s game. Written off by many after a 4-1 opening day defeat to Russia, back-to-back wins propelled them to the top of Group A, with Vaclav Pilar and Petr Jiracek the main protagonists. Between them, the midfielders have scored all of their nation’s goals, notching a couple apiece, and look the main threat to Paulo Bento’s favourites. Michal Kadlec’s penalty duties and Milan Baros’ role as the lone forward means they cannot be overlooked, while the creativity of Tomas Rosicky (if fit) and Jaroslav Plasil is likely to provide their team mates with opportunities against a defence that conceded in all of their group games.

Cristiano Ronaldo looks almost certain to be the main man for a Portugal side that has also won the last two games. After a poor couple of performances, the Real Madrid man exploded into form against Holland, scoring twice and hitting the woodwork on a couple of occasions. Nani has provided an assist in each of the last two matches and has been somewhat unlucky not to find the net thus far, Helder Postiga’s guaranteed starting role has already seen him notch once, while Pepe’s threat from the back has seen him accrue 13 points, just one less than Ronaldo in the group stages.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I think I have said this before, but I think Jiraceck as in my opinion they are about equal in terms of skills and attacking threat, however Jiraceck will be facing Contrao and the space left behind. (although this may mean that the cross comes from Jiraceck/Selassie and Pilar scores it)

I say Pilar, more nailed on and created more goal scoring chances. Jiracek looks like counter attack kind of a player. Are you ready with your draft team? I would love to see it.

After today's events i am looking forward to the latest installment of the goal line technology debate. Although its hardly a debte as surely every intelligent football fan wants it but sadly FIFA are too incompetent to realise. I'm sure Blatter and Platini are currently seething that such a decision has gone England's way so things could finally change now.

Personally i don't blame the 5th official. It was only over by a couple of inches (Unlike Lampards which was a coupe of feet) and so at full speed there must have been some doubt so he was right not to give it. It re-inforces how pointless these guys are as they don't have the authority to call fouls, corners etc but still can't make the calls they are specifically there for.

I would argue for video replays over goal-line technology, like they have in virtually all other sports. Have a 5th official with a monitor and access to all camera angles that viewers have acces to, and if he spots an obvious error by the ref / linesman he just radios down to him. Offsides, penalties, sendings off, dives, goals, the lot.

        I agree with this.
Today could have taken about 10 seconds to feed info to the ref via a booth.

Blatter knows this, Platini knows this, we all know this.
Why are the prolonging this by setting up fun*ing Hawk Eye bollox in the post etc.
        Waste of time.

Yeah, videos much better than Hawkeye etc, I wouldn’t want it for all fouls but for reds, yellows, offsides, penalties and especially dives. It would only take seconds (in which time there is usually a European or South American feigning injury anyway) so it won’t slow the game down at all. Complete no brainer

I think that it's a disgrace that it was missed.

Totally disagree about the 5th official. It was obvious from the replay but at full speed??!! What if he had given it and it turned out the be wrong!. If in doubt he can't give it. Although 3 seconds on the replay woudl give the answer.

          Don't make me laugh!!
Full speed?? The ball was floating in.

The whole point of the 5th official is to make a decision in the heat of the moment.

He's employed to do that job.
Not up to it because it all too quick. Make the teas for the ref then!

I'd love a train driver to say he jumped a red because everything was a blur at 100+mph.

I had this debate with him before.

My argument is this. If Portugal go out you will struggle to replace Rui Patricio, if Germany or Spain go out, you have no problem replacing Casillas or Neuer and you may even make so $ in the process.

Lets contextualise this. One of JK's many RMT posts had Periera in his backline, my point was that if he was going Neuer and Periera he may as well go Patricio and Boateng as...
            A) It's cheaper.
            and
            B) Either way you have a Portugese defensive asset to replace that may or not be troublesome to replace.

Hmm... so what you and Impressive Tackles are saying that will leave you a 0.5m space to upgrade that elsewhere? I would prefer to stick with a solid goalkeeper like Neuer than having to spend any one of the 8 FTs on a goalkeeper again because Portugal face a tough opponent in the semis...

this. Plus once you dump CR7 you have spare cash anyway. Defenders from Portugal are not that much cheaper than Germans or Spaniards. It's easier to find money to upgrade there.

I can almost guarantee you that the vast majority on this website will have less than 0.5m in the bank when the QFs kick off. As such, upgrading a Periera to an Alba will be similarly as troubling as upgrading Patricio.

Czech have scored against all of their opponents so far - by midfielders. But their defense is leaky (4-1 vs Russia). So I would probably avoid investing in POR and CZE defense. CZE midfield makes great fillers for the value. But Czech are missing an effective target forward to pull off a shock result, IMO. Baros has been far from his personal best on the field; Czech needs someone like Zlatan or Rooney IMO.

There are not many better than Moutinho in that price range. Other than Gerrard and Pirlo, no mids are scoring that well.

Is not having any Italy and French coverage too risky? I've gone for players who I think will make it to the semis, if I'm wrong I still have 8 transfers for the semis.

Super cheap and has the most gametime among those who rare starters. Are you fixated on a 5 midfield lineup? If no, then get him in and use that money and upgrade elsewhere.
