Many of us Fantasy managers will be turning to the next two quarter-finals to reassess our captaincy options in light of Joachim Low’s lineup for Germany’s game with Greece this evening. Mario Gomez was the runaway leader of the Captain Poll prior to kick-off with 68% of the votes cast; the top scoring player in the group stages, he’d accrued 21 points in his first three games but Low’s decision to drop him to the bench in favour of Miroslav Klose scuppered plenty best-laid plans:

The team announcement saw many stick with Cristiano Ronaldo’s 12 point haul against Czech Republic, while others gambled on various German assets – Klose vindicated his manager’s decision with a goal and assist for a nine point return, equalled by Greece’s Dimitrios Salpingidis. Mesut Ozil was the highest scorer in terms of Germany’s more popular assets in the McDonald’s game – a pair of assists helped him to an armband haul of 16 points and, while those who handed him the captaincy will likely be content to stick, others will be more than willing to take a punt and twist.

Tomorrow night affords us the chance to turn to Spain and France, then, with Fernando Torres a likely candidate for Vicente Del Bosque’s side. The 8.5 priced forward has started the last two for Spain and hopes are high of another run-out against Les Bleus – with a couple of goals already under his belt, El Nino is sure to pick up a good few votes. Cesc Fabregas has also found the net twice and may well oust Torres from the first XI if his manager decides to go down the “false nine” route once again, though David Silva may well be the safest option. Having had a hand in four of his nation’s six goals thus far, the Man City player is the top scoring Spaniard with 20 points over his trio of starts – Andres Iniesta is the most popular player in the Spain squad with over 31% ownership and will be keen to add to his assist in the previous game against Croatia.

France arrive as underdogs after their 23 match unbeaten run was ended by Sweden in their final Group D match. Karim Benzema looks the man most likely for Laurent Blanc’s side, despite a disappointing campaign so far. The Real Madrid man has failed to find the net and has produced just a pair of assists for his Fantasy owners. Samir Nasri and Franck Ribery have also struggled to impress – between them, they have registered a goal and assist but have yet to pick up any attacking points since a move from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1. Yohan Cabaye is the most popular midfielder in the France squad in the McDonald’s game with over 12% ownership, while Jeremy Menez and Hatem Ben Arfa have been handed a start apiece on the right flank in the last two matches and are real differential candidates.

tournament FF is always way more volatile and difficult to really influence with any strategy. It's all about FPL, a long season and the man with the plan comes good. So take heart, this is like the muck around game before we kit up and the real game starts.

In a Spain Germany final who on earth would people pick as their forward 1/2/3?

      Torres? Gomez? Klose?

I guess Silva is nailed on but that's about it. One up top, 5 mid, 4 defenders because both defences are nowhere near as good as their attacks, and all the goals/assists/creativity is going to come from that midfield 5

more tactical, like the Fergie model playing in boxes(zones) ala Michael Carrick, Lord Ferg gets him to play in a 4m x 4m box and he does his job great

Depends how long you play 5v5 for. No-one can hide in 5v5 and your energy depletes at a much faster rate. 11 v 11 is much more tactical and structurally organised.

I personally prefer PLAYING 5v5 as everyone is involved and it's more fun but WATCHING 11 v 11 is definitely better.

as a defender, I think is much more tiring playing in 11v11 than 5v5, as the movement of the forward is wider.
anyway, I haven't played 11v11 for quite a while, so maybe my fitness have improved between that period, therefore feeling less tired 🙂 hope that's the case

Rubbish decision and one that should ensure he doesn't ref the next game or two. FFS the defender (Boateng? was turning away to avoid getting hit), The current scoreline doesn't detract from from the fact that the decision was poor.

Going for a Germany Spain final- It's all about opinions and you have to nail your colours to the mast.

Unless you still have your wc, it's all about calling the SF results, if you get it wrong you have no chance of fielding a strong team in the final without hits..... 😐

Yeah you should be able to field the ideal team so can only help. probably your ideal scenario would be a double upset in semis leaving most having to take hits to get rid of the germans and spanish they stocked up on.

43 points, green arrows top 1k and 6 to play. Question is do I punt the armband on Torres tomorrow or stick again with CR7. Got a small lead at the top of my ml just now.

Also, can't see either of two games being more than 2-0 at best, so unlikely Torres will get both from a very fluent spannish side.

Underappreciation – The more they’re expected to score, the less they are considered. Low ownership is a great indicator. CHECK

Overachievement – The player needs to score more points than expected, the more the better. CHECK

Underdog – Weaker teams have less support for a player, making their feats all the more remarkable. Everybody loves an underdog story, and we’ll reward it. CHECK

Captaincy – If the captaincy remains on the player at the end of the Matchday, this will earn brownie points for sheer audacity. CHECK

Sorry Milanista! Let's root for the Azzurris together now - you've got better stuff to play for anyways 😉

              🙁

The audacity to spend 28m of the budget on 4 defenders from the same team against the French deserves some recognition if it pays off. I guess the valour award will have to wait for another time. At least a Spanish clean sheet should be enough to take Italy to the semi final!

It might be too much work over a season but if possible the valour awards should definitely be part of your premier league game if it goes ahead.

As it's quiet I'll share a little tip with you..... if you have Gomez and a cheap filler mid, get rid of Gomez and upgrade your cheapo to Khedira, you can still afford a decent English, Italian, Portugese, Spanish, risky German forward.... thank me later. Night all

    Mark, or other admins.

Is there any chance you'll add the possibility of comparing players more easily in the members area stats section for the new season? I often find myself in a scenario where I've narrowed it down to two players from different teams, and would like to select them more easily for comparison. Think many others would like that too.

if it works then, in answer to your question. You'd save the most money by having 2 4.0 midfielders, as defenders are cheaper than Mids anyway, but it all depends on what you are going to do with the money.
