Meet the Manager – three-time top 10k finisher reveals his Gameweek 8 Wildcard

Joe meets another Fantasy Premier League (FPL) manager with a stellar career record across the game.

This time around he meets Prasun Singhal, known as Pras among the Fantasy Football Scout community.

As well as finishing in the top 10,000 three times, including a top 5k finish, he has not ended a campaign lower than 100k in the last decade.

But after a strong start to the current season his team is losing rank fast and he has decided to press the Wildcard button.

Across this episode, Pras explains his strategies for success and tips for a strong finish. He also takes an honest look at his own FPL career to see how he could finish even higher up the rankings.

Pras explains how Fantasy Football content has been important to his strong finishes, with the Scoutcast and articles from FFScout a real help.

The FFScout Members’ Area Comparison Tool has been of particular use.

He also name-checks the array of Twitter posters and other podcasters that he has followed over the years to help him gain an advantage.

With his Wildcard in play, Pras takes us through the reasons for the players he has chosen as well as those vying for a place in his final XI.

Price points have been an important part of his strategy over the years and he explains how this is driving many of his decisions.

A strong spread of cash across all positions looks to be key to his thinking as is the value offered by assets from Brentford and Southampton in particular.

He also takes part in some future-gazing, when the template may alter even more radically from its current form. Could West Ham’s ‘season keeper’ striker Michail Antonio (£8.0m) even make way within the month?

The Meet the Manager series is where Joe chats to FPL managers with a strong record of success, an interesting view of the game and are offering the community a unique insight into Fantasy management.

His chat with Pras can be viewed below.

Best site for potential risers and fallers? I use fplstatistics but they didn’t have Vardy and D.Luiz as a risk of going up.

      Which option sounds best?

      1) Ronaldo, Townsend/ESR/Mount, Duffy - bench Sarr
      2) Ronaldo, Townsend, Foden -4 - bench Duffy, Sarr sold
      3) Kaku, Foden, Duffy -4 - bench Sarr

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but Fabinho and Alisson are both set to miss the Watford match:
      https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-alisson-fabinho-watford-brazil-covid-b1933147.html

I'd been thinking about transferring Sarr out, but might keep him AND start him against 'Pool, especially if TAA is still out.
No TAA, Alisson and Fabinho would drastically decrease their chances of a clean sheet, even if it's "only Watford".

But does it also affect the way Liverpool will play, hence making Salah a less obvious choice for captain this GW, do you think?

Oh I definitely will, but hasn't there been some stats from last season, that Salah (or maybe just Liverpool in general) performs worse when Fabinho's not playing?

            • 12 Years

It's either Salah or gamble on choosing the right City player.

Even if Liverpool aren't as good as normal, it's still Salah as otherwise you're literally trying to overthink it

            1. Dion D's Solo Shower
              • 6 Years

Not really arguing against Salah as captain. He'll get the armband from me this week, for sure.
But thought it interesting that Liverpool will be without 2 key players (maybe 3), especially for those considering shipping Sarr out, like myself.

      2. pingissimus
        • 5 Years
        2 years, 5 months ago

Fabinho didn't start either week 1 or 2 and Liverpool still kept clean sheets against bottom feeders no?

There's very little chance Watford will make any effort to compete in midfield and so the absence of Fabinho is much less relevant imo.

        D and B

Mbeumo would be at the head of the list for me - oop and the greatest goal threat. Doucoure looks to be outperforming his stats - could be a good thing of course - and Arsenal don't look like scoring goals. Probs Townsend over Gallagher just.

It’s great, when you look at it like that but kind of falls down a bit when you look at the rest of the side around it. Can’t say I haven’t played with the idea though. I feel there’s 6 defenders I really want for 5 slots and maybe 4 mids I want for 5 slots.

Obviously going to wait till closer to the deadline, but considering:

It would mean going without Antonio which I don’t like. Could work but equally he’s the sort of player that could harm any team and at that price…

Personally think Antonio's (and West Ham's) dream run is over. Mostly due to their engagement in Europe. Hence shipping him out on WC.
And even if I'm wrong, think Toney + Armstrong can cover him quite well.

I think if you’re set on getting rid then there’s nothing wrong with Toney and Armstrong as options. Armstrong’s fixtures about to get really good - and Toney’s too in a couple of weeks time along with his talismanic status. They’d be my top 2 choices at that price point.

I don't like losing Antonio. He's probably one of the best value players in the game. He could be 9.0m and still be worth considering. Unless West Ham fall off a cliff or he gets injured, he will stay in my team. He gets at least the next 3 games. If he doesn't deliver in that time, he will go.

Had him from GW1 till now, and plan was always to loose him when their fixtures thicken due to European commitments. Even if he proves me wrong, think I can cover the points from investing elsewhere.

I don't think you can at that price. Or at least, it's a big gamble to do so. I just think you can gamble smarter than against one of the highest owned players in the game with top 3 underlying stats.

The stats are the scariest thing to stare down. He's 3rd in xGI behind Salah and Mane and he missed a game because of suspension.

He's not joining up with the Jamaica team either, so gets an extended break to work on whatever. Seems like shipping him out is asking for trouble in the long run. As well say Lukaku has to go.

Personally think Moyes' interest in Europe is going to cause their league form to suffer. And with fixtures now starting to pile up no less. And West Ham don't have squad depth like the other teams in Europe either.

A relatively erratic beast when fit 🙂

There was really nothing between him Wilson DCL and Watkins last season when it came to putting away chances. They were all pretty much exactly 50% on big chances. The clinical thing comes and goes.

Remember that 4 goals vs Norwich? I'm yet to see that from DCL.

Yeah he is dispensable but not a big issue keeping him unless injured. Hard to find better value imo

I do - I also remember the Watkins hattie against Liverpool and the DCL hattie against WBA.

Antonio is still a good choice but I think his beast record is up in the air. I watched him miss 4 sitters in one match against Palace last season for example.

He started the season in blazing form and he could yet of course pick it up again. Interestingly he was as effective against top 6 type opposition last season as bottom 6. When he's on he's on.

Losing Antonio a risk but not insane

He's had one big chance in his last three matches compared to six in his first three matches - reverting to norm perhaps. You can't argue fixtures here as Leeds Southampton and Brentford is hardly a tough run.

It's a small sample size but so was the sample size that made everyone leap on him. His stats last season were good but far from sensational.

It all depends if you wonna stay with 3 big hitters really. Bruno + Ronny doesn't sit right with me, I'd much prefer Lukaku over Bruno and that way you're covering 3 big hitters from 3 big teams. Your team doesn't definitely need a WC but it's not quite the team I want right now so on that note??!!...Maybe. 😀

Is Cancelo worth the extra £0.7m over Laporte. Attacking stats show no real difference. Want to be convinced…

Gut, FPL pedigree, more room for attacking return..

I could be wrong though. Laporte is DGW legend. But he could be benched against easier opponents. Cancelo? Maybe Pep needs him more. Gut feeling

Difficult isnt it. I looked at stats and Cancelo over 4 games had 5 goal attempts, none in the box but created 5 chances. His xG was 0.14. Laporte over 3 games had 3 goal attempts BUT 3 were in the box and an xG of 0.35. Only created 1 chance tho. Laporte is less nailed though which is a worry.

Very true, the 0.1's here and there can make a difference. I reckon a good sub and great value for money is Livermento. There's others like White, Tierny. If your budget allows that is.

Are you sticking with Ron Rom up front for a while?

If yes then you can't afford City defender (assuming you keep Trent)

Ideally would upgrade Coady but you don't have the funds. Would look to roll one FT for gw9

      Ramsdale Foster

      1.8 ITB

This Foden vs Grealish thing I don't think is as clear as people make it out to be.

Grealish's minutes look more assured. He's still adapting to the team and Pep seems willing to give him a chance, at least more than Sterling. Admittedly, his recent performances don't scream points but we know he is capable and one double digit game and the tune will likely change immediately on him since his minutes are good.

We've also seen this all before with Foden. He is Pep's favorite when it comes to playing the top teams. They play him vs Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid but then will bench him vs Burnley, Palace, Newcastle.

The fixtures are good for City. I want to gamble but I dunno, this is a tough call.

Grealish is such a difficult one, have had him from the start and while his minutes are great and stats too it just doesn't seem to be dropping for him. Especially when there seems much better ways to spend the money although i don't think foden is the answer to that either, i will keep Grealish for this kind looking fixture run for the next 3 and reasses from there. I actually think grealish is more likely to start in the prem games too

I think Foden is being managed beck into the fold.

It's almost like Pep has a Champions League set up in mind where quality players like Mahrez are top pick. It's not working out so well in the Champions League but pretty good with a stable set up in the league.

I get that City's next run of games look worthy of investing in but is this not more about the best option in that bracket? The other guys, Jota and Mount have their upsides too. Grealish's lack of returns is not in his favour, certainty of mins is certainly a minus on Foden. Does Firmino out possibly after the international break make Jota the better option. I've gone Mount and hoping i keep the faith on him being given the chance to improve Chelsea's creativity.

Or is it that you think those fixtures even with the downsides of City rotation are worthy of inclusion over the two other options i've mentioned.

Isn't Jota a better option than both Foden/Grealish anyway?
Less rotation risk (if benched he usually comes on and still looks dangerous)
Liverpool arguably better than Man City attacking wise (and vice versa in terms of defender)
        Stats:
Jota 145 mins xGI last season / 127 mins this season
        Foden 211 last / 171 this
        Grealish 196 last / 180 this

        Ramsdale Foster
        Dias Cancelo Azpi Rudiger Livra
        Salah Foden Saka Raph Luiz
        Lukaku Toney Antonio

Strategy to get TAA back in gw10 for 2 premium defenders or 1 premium defender plus Foden.

Really want to find a way to get Vardy in my team.....only way I can do this is to replace Toney, Foden, and Dias for Vardy, Mbuemo and Duffy. Plus it makes getting TAA back in a bit more tricky

If Lukaku blanks his next two - bre NOR i'd really look at getting rid, so just reassess in a couple of games
Can see why you'd want to get x2 city/chel but i'd probably just choose one team to double up on (if any)
Gotta give somewhere - Likes of White offer good value
You'll be perma 4 at the back and will be frustrated when you leave foden saka toney points on the bench and chelsea concede.

I am on WC and my core team structure will be like:

        Ramsdale Foster
        TAA Cancelo Rudiger Livramento *
Salah Raphinha Mbeumo Douglas Luiz *
        Lukaku Antonio *

I am pondering over the following options:
        A) Duffy, Son, Toney (Brownhill instead of D. Luiz because I'm 0.1 short of money for that draft)
        B) up to 5.0 def (may go for cheaper and money ITB), Son, Hwang
        C) up to 5.1 def (may go for cheaper and money ITB), Foden, Jimenez
        D) Dias, Foden, Toney and 0.2 ITB

        Which option would you prefer?
