Scout Picks

FPL Gameweek 8 Scout Picks built on Man City triple-up

As they prepare to face Burnley at the Etihad Stadium, three Manchester City players form the spine of our Gameweek 8 Scout Picks.

After Sam, Az, Neale and Tom submitted their Scout Squad selections earlier this week, we have chosen our best players ahead of tomorrow’s 11.00 BST deadline.

We line up in a 4-4-2 formation and come in at £82.9m, just under our £83.0m budget.

GOALKEEPER

Xhaka and Moura recalled as Ramsdale starts again

After a promising second half of last season yielded nine clean sheets from 23 games, three of which arrived in the final five, Arsenal have conceded just once in the four games since Aaron Ramsdale (£4.6m) was installed as first-choice goalkeeper. During that time, they have kept three clean sheets and given up just two big chances, fewer than any other Premier League side, while Ramsdale’s +1.10 expected goals (xG) prevented total ranks fourth amongst all goalkeepers so far. Now, the England stopper will be keen to build on that against Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace on Monday.

DEFENDERS

Wolves City dugout

With the news that he is available for Saturday’s early kick-off following injury, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) is clearly one of the best defender picks on offer in Gameweek 8, with potential for a clean sheet and attacking returns. A possible route to points may come via set-pieces, with opponents Watford allowing 2.7 xG from dead-ball situations so far this season, while they also rank 18th for crosses conceded from their left-flank. Given that Alexander-Arnold’s 17 successful crosses and 2.56 expected assists (xA) are both league-leading totals amongst all defenders in FPL, he could be set for another big week.

Anyone have the nerve to go for
TAA, Dias, Cancelo, Azpil & James ?

Backed up by Doucoure, Mbuemo, D Luiz, Saka Salah in midfield ?

    Ramsdale Sanchez
TAA, Dias, Cancelo, Azpil & James
Salah Doucoure, Mbuemo, D Luiz, Saka
    Lukaku Antonio Hwang

If I go that route, my midfield will be Salah-Raphinha-4.5-4.5-4.5

      5-2-3

Rapha no problem but I wouldn’t want 4.5 mids coming in if my premium defenders get benched

Raphinha works but doubt he will start this week

        Ramsdale
TAA, Dias, Cancelo, Azpil & James
        Salah Raphinha
        Lukaku Antonio Hwang

        Sanchez Doucoure, Mbuemo, D Luiz,

I suppose you’re assuming two of the defenders would get rested each week, but man if they all played, got no clean sheets, and you left Saka on the bench it could be some frustrating scores

      1. Hotdogs for Tea
        • 8 Years

hopefully only one rested but to go full on defence you need some decent bench players to deal with the carnage of an Azpil & Dias benching for example

Also adds a choice between Hwang, Doucoure & Mbuemo each week

Repost with more consideration (on a WC):

    A: Son + ESR -> KDB + Luiz
    B: Son + Mbuemo -> KDB + Luiz
    C: Son + Cancelo -> KDB + Laporte
    D: Son + Mbuemo + Armstrong -> KDB + Luiz + Toney

I’m confused because on a WC you don’t make transfers in that way.

      So I will say.

      I like Mbeumo
      I don’t like ESR
      I like Cancelo
      I don’t like Armstrong
I like KDB but think he’s too expensive
      I like Toney
      I like Laporte.

No idea how that works with what you’re asking.

I don't fancy having to play Toney against Chelsea immediately after a wilcard (when you want to be getting a big haul), so would downgrade one defender and upgrade Mbeumo. I'm not a fan of double reliance on Brentford for attacking returns.

Seems this is the big wildcard week where the punters will split into those going 4-5 at the back with premium defenders and those aiming for 3-5-2 / 3-4-3.

I'd be too scared to do that this week so I'd have to say no, but do whatever you think is the right move to do...

Any changes needed to this WC?

    Ramsdale
    Trent, Cancelo, Chilwell, Dias
    Salah, Foden, Raphina, Saka
    Lukaku, Antonio

    Foster, Livramento, Brownhill, Davis

I'd pick James over Chilly but that's a 50/50 call. Rest is great. Good luck!

I think you need a stronger bench if you want to go with Cancelo and Chilwell. I would go James but I think Cancelo is due a rest soon with CL, return of Zin + no free midweeks for Man City until the next international break...not everyone agrees with that I know but I think the only truely nailed Man City Defender is Dias so you need a second decent sub

Poor conversion rate. 1 goal from 21 goal attempts is kak.

Hard to fit in attack with only 3 spots and people are so set on Toney. Would be in my side if I didn't have who I already have.

Azpi is safe for now with the injuries Chelsea have

For this week yes, but Chelsea are flush with options to play on the right side of the defense plus he is on the wrong side of 30. If he was a nailed on wingback and plays like he did last game he would be awesome, but not to be.

Which of these looks best here?

    A) Dias, Livramento & Saka
    B) Laporte, James & Mbeumbo

    Ramsdale, Foster
    Trent, Cancelo, Chilwell, xxx, xxx
    Salah, Foden, Raphina, xxx, Brownhill
    Lukaku, Antonio, Davis

A, would go with the more nailed picks there, just because you have Davis so essentially have a 2 man bench and you have 3 rotation risks as is

    4. Dexters Laboratory

      B) Laporte could match Dias, Mbeuno to outscore Saka in the next 5, RJames to outscore Liv.. having a feeling he'll be an assist machine.. SOMEONE needs to start crossing for Lukaku

    Williams Antonio> Cancelo Armstrong (-4)?

Gives funds to upgrade Sarr to Foden/Mount for another hit if needed.

    Ramsdale Foster
    TAA Cancelo James Duffy Liver
    Salah Foden Raphina Mbeuno Brownhill
    Lukaku Antonio Toney

    On WC 1.3 ITB
    A) Duffy to Laporte
    B) Mbeuno to Saka
    C) Toney to Jimenez
    D) Brownhill to ESR
