Scout Picks

FPL Gameweek 8 Scout Picks built on Man City triple-up

As they prepare to face Burnley at the Etihad Stadium, three Manchester City players form the spine of our Gameweek 8 Scout Picks.

After Sam, Az, Neale and Tom submitted their Scout Squad selections earlier this week, we have chosen our best players ahead of tomorrow’s 11.00 BST deadline.

We line up in a 4-4-2 formation and come in at £82.9m, just under our £83.0m budget.

GOALKEEPER

Xhaka and Moura recalled as Ramsdale starts again

After a promising second half of last season yielded nine clean sheets from 23 games, three of which arrived in the final five, Arsenal have conceded just once in the four games since Aaron Ramsdale (£4.6m) was installed as first-choice goalkeeper. During that time, they have kept three clean sheets and given up just two big chances, fewer than any other Premier League side, while Ramsdale’s +1.10 expected goals (xG) prevented total ranks fourth amongst all goalkeepers so far. Now, the England stopper will be keen to build on that against Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace on Monday.

DEFENDERS

Wolves City dugout

With the news that he is available for Saturday’s early kick-off following injury, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) is clearly one of the best defender picks on offer in Gameweek 8, with potential for a clean sheet and attacking returns. A possible route to points may come via set-pieces, with opponents Watford allowing 2.7 xG from dead-ball situations so far this season, while they also rank 18th for crosses conceded from their left-flank. Given that Alexander-Arnold’s 17 successful crosses and 2.56 expected assists (xA) are both league-leading totals amongst all defenders in FPL, he could be set for another big week.

Does anyone have any other sources other than this person? It seems that all the rumours all link back to this one source and I can’t see any other sources anywhere…. Gutted as I’d put him in an hour before the news to beat some overnight price changes!

I can't help feel sorry for Steve Bruce. His 1 000th game in charge and the flack from all sides surrounding him. He must of got some things right to around for as long as he has. Sure, not a great coach, but in my view no worse than Ollie and many others. Ancelotti a great example of a coaching failure in many ways. Let us not forget with a net spend on the low side, he kept Newcastle up. He got in a coach to help him with undoubted qualities. What did Newcastle expect?
Be careful what you wish for comes to mind regarding new owners. "Out of site, out of mind" is how I think many supporters are thinking regarding the Saudi owners reputation.
On top of that, Mike Ashley, as much as I am not fond of his ways, has captained a pretty good ship.
Congrats Steve on 1 000 games mate. I am thinking of you!
Ok guys, waiting for the flack.

He’s laughing all the way to the bank & is a multi millionaire many, many times over from the game where he won more than most others can dream of as a player and managed 1000 games as a boss

Not sure what there is to feel sympathy about tbh

99.99% of the worlds population would give their right arms for that sort of life story

I’m sure he can and will celebrate the milestone though - don’t get sucked into all the media circus/drama - Bruce is in an incredibly privileged position compared to pretty much the vast majority of humans that have ever existed - he doesn’t need sympathy

I think of the group who took Newcastle over. Now we talk about privilege. And some of the 99 odd % who have suffered under them.

              Exactly

The victims of human rights transgressions would probably trade places in a heartbeat with multi-multi-millionaire 1000-game football manager and Man Utd legend ex-serial-title-winning football player Steve Bruce

Bruce will be absolutely fine, don't lose any sleep over him, honestly

Yeah, he'd have walked out ages ago (as he habitually does) if it weren't for that pay-off. Kane must be wishing he'd employed Brucie's agent. Bruce doesn't need sympathy - he's played the game like a champion.

It's more the notion that Bruce is somehow in a "woe is me" type position

He's not - comparatively speaking, he's won the lottery of life, it's typical of the media to spin everything as some soap-opera drama - take a step back and look at Bruce's situation - he is an incredibly lucky human being

        1. Eze Really?
          • 9 Years

Maximus. I respect your views and most comments you put on this site. I do think there is an emotionally charged viewpoint in this case. Every manager and I mean all who have the opportunity to manage in premier league football has been lucky in life; especially money. Money is important in life but there is more to life than money. I am talking about how he has been lambasted from all corners when I cannot see how he deserves so much. I talk more about the emotional living side of things.

          1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
            • 14 Years
            2 years, 5 months ago

I’m not talking only about money though - he’s had an elite career as a professional footballer (instantly elevates him to 0.001% of humans that have ever lived), he’s a club legend at one of the biggest teams in the world (elevates him to the top .001% of that top 0.001%), he’s then went on to “make it” as a football manager (elevates him further again), and not only “make it”… but manage 1,000 games…

It certainly doesn’t do any harm that he also gets more money than probably 99.99% of humans that have ever lived - but that isn’t the main factor

Sympathy & Bruce really only belong in the same sentence of a tabloid/media-circus type environment where everything has to have some sort of drama/soap-opera/hero/victim/good guy/bad guy slant to it to drum up noise & bluster

Overall Bruce is definitely in the category of winning life’s lottery - honestly don’t lose any sleep over his plight, he’ll be absolutely fine

Alonso - fair enough he’s a dodgy pick - but TAA & Rudiger is not a terrible defence

It might score terribly this week, but there is a massive, massive difference between a terrible defence, and a defence that scores terribly in the gameweek

This is a very important differentiation

I watched alonso against spurs and he was so attacking and felt when I wildcarded he was a must, the week after chilweel was back so what can you do. I hope he gets brentford or norwich then I'm getting rid. Rudiger is hopefully back for norwich or the week after. I think this week I could potentially be in for rotation nightmare

Problem with Cr7 is that he is arguebly Best Player in history of the game capable of scoring against anyone, anytime but United at this moment is a team what i cheer fkr6, but cannot trust in FPL terms. Ronaldo recent stats shows, that he has problems in Big games. From what i saw, he will create chances for himself, but there is lack of delivery, lack of passion and hunger from other Boys on the pitch.
