It’s time to introduce FanTeam’s festive bonanza: the World Championship of Fantasy Football (WCOFF), an event that will take place in Gameweeks 24 and 25.

There’s a whopping €500,000 prize pot to be split between the top 121 competitors, with wallet-widening rewards ranging from €1,500 to €100,000.

Unless you are particularly flush with cash, ignore the £1k buy-in – the great news is that qualification can be earned by succeeding in feeder (or “satellite” contests, to use the correct terminology) beforehand for a lot less money.

Our in-house FanTeam expert and last year’s season-long £200k winner, Josh Wooldridge, did just that in December when triumphing in some midweek satellites that only cost a few quid to enter.

One of your last chances to win a WCOFF ticket through a satellite event will be via the Burnley v Watford match this Saturday, so head on over to the FanTeam lobby to find the tournament that is shown below:

THE WCOFF PRIZE POOL

HOW TO PLAY FOR €500k FROM LITTLE MORE THAN £2

Last chance to turn little more than £2 into €100k with FanTeam's 'WCOFF' event 1

FanTeam have created a three-step system that gives users the chance to qualify for as little as £1.68. You will find the satellites in the tournament lobby up until the WCOFF begins, most of which you’ll see above.

  • Step 1 – From €2/£1.68 entry

Start your journey for as little as €2/£1.68 and battle it out to qualify for entry to Step 2.

  • Step 2 – Qualifying ticket from Step 1 or €55 entry

If you have qualified from Step 1 you gain a ticket into any Step 2 event of your choosing. It’s only if you want to skip the first step, will you then have to pay the €55 entry fee. Step 2 tournaments will also be running regularly so spot the one you think you have the best chance at and go for the ticket to the big one

  • Step 3 – Qualifying ticket from Step 2 or €1,000 entry

If you have made it to Step 3 then that is it: you have won your €1,000 seat to the big event!

ARE FANTEAM’S RULES THE SAME AS FPL?

Here’s the great news: anyone with any sort of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) experience should be able to pick up FanTeam’s game without issue. The rules, scoring and prices are very similar, shown in detail below.

It’s essentially FPL but with huge cash prizes. Given that paid entry mini-leagues are now strongly discouraged by the Premier League, the FanTeam game offers Fantasy managers a legitimate opportunity to make money from their management expertise.

Unlike the main FanTeam game, WCOFF is essentially two Free Hit teams of 11 players – one for Gameweek 24 and one for Gameweek 25. There is a 105.0m budget, with at least one goalkeeper, three defenders, two midfielders and one forward to be picked.

A maximum of three players from a single Premier League team can be selected. There are no substitutes.

Additionally, a captain and vice-captain has to be nominated every week; the player handed the armband will score double points.

All sound very familiar? That’s because the two games are largely the same – although there are a handful of differences to watch out for.

KEY RULES DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FANTEAM WCOFF AND FPL
  • Player prices can rise and fall based on form and in-game transfer movement but, unlike in FPL, a player’s ‘sell price’ is the same as their ‘purchase price’.
  • The ‘Safety Net’ feature makes up for the lack of substitutes. If your player doesn’t start a match, he’ll automatically be replaced by the next-priced (descending) starter in that team’s position who did. For example, if midfielder Mohamed Salah was rested, he would be switched for a cheaper Liverpool midfielder who played, like Sadio Mane.

HOW DO PLAYERS SCORE POINTS?

Seasoned FPL managers should have no problem in adjusting to FanTeam and running a squad with its familiar scoring system, shown above.

KEY SCORING DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FANTEAM AND FPL
  • There is no Bonus Points System, which is replaced by plus/minus points (+0.3/-0.3) if a team is winning/losing during the period a player is on the pitch.
  • Goalkeepers get 0.5 points for every save made, unlike the one point awarded in FPL for increments of three stops.
  • Committing a foul that leads to a free-kick goal or converted penalty is penalised by minus two points.
  • Midfielders and forwards get an extra point for completing the full match.
  • Shots on target that don’t end up as goals are rewarded (+0.4 for midfielders and forwards, +0.6 for defenders)

Cheers for the responses all, surprised at that. Any particular reasons why Rudiger is the favourite? People expecting Alonso to be benched or hooked early? I suppose being up against Raphinha means a yc is likely too.

What craziness is this that people are picking Rudiger over Alonso...

He's gonna start. He's practically a midfielder in this system. Easy Alonso. If he doesn't start he very rarely comes on so Rudiger can be first sub.

Why?! I don't understand that at all.

You cannot convince me that Rudiger has a higher points potential than Alonso when they both start. It makes 0 sense. Alonso is even on set pieces like direct FKs.

Man I really want Alonso to haul this week if that's the general sentiment. People getting rid and benching him for LEE. A sweet 15 pointer will feel extra good.

It's like they completely forgot why they bought him after he blanks for 3 games. This is the same Alonso that was the top scoring defender in the game after the first 6 fixtures. The recency bias is staggering.

I'm benching him for Mbeumo v Watford but I'm not happy about it! He's looked really bad, really really bad and I think Raphinha will give him the run around. Yellow card definitely and Chelsea defense has looked shocking. Can see a depleted Leeds scoring even though I've sold Raphinha. It would be very fpl for it to backfire on me of course.
It's not just the 3 blanks though, its the level of performances. Those absent mids for Chelsea seem to have ripped their defensive solidity apart. Still playing James but the double bothers me. Plus Mbeumo has to deliver v Watford for a double digit swan song after weeks of rubbish lol

LEE without Bamford or Rodrigo. Yeah I don't see it. But if you're benching for Mbeumo I guess that's reasonable.

I just ask myself who is more likely to make me cry if I bench them and the answer is Alonso. I just can't see the Mbeumo brace in Brentford's current form and without Toney.

That is a very good point, benching Alonso if it goes well would definitely make me cry more lol as I'm numb to Mbeumo blanks at this stage
                  That's good food for thought!

Cheers Camzy, appreciate the reasoning. Was definitely surprised so many said Rudiger so comfortably, not that I'm against playing him I just expected Alonso to coast it. (I may yet play both, it's really a question of whether to take a hit to get rid of Kane for Ronaldo or not, but knowing if I don't do it this week I'll need to next week so I'm likely to do it now considering the possible upside).

Thanks. My issue primary is Kane, I'm already on -4 but I have Kane still as well. I think I'll need a hit next week to get rid of him and one other, so it's about whether to do it now and suck up the -8 and hope moving for Ronaldo will be worth it and leave myself freer next week regarding transfers (maybe even a chance of rolling), or -4 this and next week. I'm not averse to playing both and doing that move next week but Chelsea's xgc hasn't exactly been crazily low this season and it seems like them conceding bigger and more chances is catching up to them. No Jorginho or Kante is a big issue too.

With so many red flags and many highly-owned non premium assets facing difficult fixtures, I feel like this will be a low scoring GW. Am I nuts in resisting the urge to take a -4 hit to move Son out?

Bernardo can easily repay 4 points in one game. I say go for it.

I know it’s irrational but this -4 really stings. Son > Bernardo it is.

It stings even more because I squandered my FT on going Duffy > Davies earlier this week before the COVID news broke.

Team dependent but not sure about holding that much of your budget on the bench when Son could miss 2GWs

Assuming the Spurs game is definitely off which of these looks best?

      A) Son & Vardy -> Bilva & Ronaldo (-4)
      B) Son -> Bilva
      C) Son & Toney -> Bilva & Watkins/Antonio (-4, Got King already)

Nope, in GW17. I think he will be benched if getting many minutes vs Leeds while Cash has awesome fixtures to come.

He playing Everton in GW17, would keep him for that game as well or there must be clear signs that he will be benched.
I would sell Son for Silva or Bowen.

You don't think Wolves can disappoint City attack? Even Liverpool suffered the other day before Origi made Origi thing.

Not really, no. Bernardo also rested so will be out there running his a$$ off. Also, there's the midweek game for LEE. You don't know for sure you'll bring in Bowen depending on COVID and other factors. That's why sometimes it's good to move early for the pick you want more. You never know what could force your hand and make you have to keep a player like Mbeumo for a while.

              Fair point.

I agree City can go riot next 2 GWs, but I don't like the fact that the points are going to be shared around, and then there's a certain Jack wasting my Foden assists. Therefore I'm not sure doubling up City mid is the way to go, although Bilva looks like on form.
