Fixtures

Double Gameweek 22 confirmed for eight teams

The revised fixture list for Double Gameweek 22 was announced by the Premier League on Thursday morning, with eight top-flight sides playing twice.

Brentford, Brighton and Hove Albion, Burnley, Chelsea, Leicester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Watford are the clubs who have two fixtures in the upcoming Gameweek.

There is a caveat: this proposed schedule is subject to change should any FA Cup third-round matches involving these teams or their second Double Gameweek 22 opponents be postponed this weekend. In the event of that happening, the outstanding cup ties would be played in this free midweek instead.

GAMEWEEK 22 DOUBLES

  • Brentford: Liverpool (a), Man Utd (h)
  • Brighton: Crystal Palace (h), Chelsea (h)
  • Burnley: Leicester (h), Watford (h)
  • Chelsea: Manchester City (a), Brighton (a)
  • Leicester: Burnley (a), Spurs (h)
  • Man Utd: Aston Villa (a), Brentford (a)
  • Spurs: Arsenal (h), Leicester (a)
  • Watford: Newcastle (a), Burnley (a)

There is a real mixed bag of ‘doubles’ here, with Brentford’s two games unappealing and Chelsea and Spurs having far from straightforward tests.

The best pairings are arguably those of Watford and Burnley, although which players from these two clubs beyond Emmanuel Dennis (£6.1m) and/or Joshua King (£5.8m) represent attractive targets is another question.

Liverpool, West Ham United and even Everton, whose players some of us would have loaded up on ahead of Double Gameweek 21, have very decent ‘single’ Gameweeks, meanwhile, so as ever a balancing act would seem to be the way to go.

DATES AND TIMES OF THE ADDITIONAL FIXTURES

Tuesday 18 January

19:30 Burnley v Watford
20:00 Brighton v Chelsea

Wednesday 19 January

19:30 Leicester v Spurs
20:00 Brentford v Man Utd

Madders (C) vs Dennis (C) for me, then. WC21 BB22 is largely unaffected by the news. Coufal to Robbo is still locked in, but now DCL to Ronaldo (-4) is on the cards

    Sa Pickford
    TAA Cancelo Royal Coufal Ait-Nouri
    Son Jota (C)Maddison Bowen Gray
    DCL Antonio (VC)Dennis

Still waiting for 30 minutes pre-deadline

You got quite unlucky with the double announcements imo. I wouldn't BB that lot. Having a DGW goalie is usually one of the things I shoot for. Plus at least some decent fixtures.

You're looking at a BB of Sa, Ait-Nouri, Cancelo, Gray

      That's only okay.

I like their fixtures enough to BB. 15 DGWers with good fixtures will be tough this season, except maybe DGW36:

The only player in my entire 15-man squad with a bad fixture in GW22 is Cancelo, and Cancelo is a perma-starter. I was prepared for this on the WC

meh, feeling deflated from the doubles.

Might just do Foden and Antonio to Denis and Son and keep the FH chip

Doublers would be DDG, Regi, King, Dennis, Ronaldo, Son, Alonso

    Brentford: Liverpool (a), Man Utd (h) -- That's a no go
Brighton: Crystal Palace (h), Chelsea (h) -- Trossard, Maupay, Lamptey might be a stretch as they probably will concede both matches)
Burnley: Leicester (h), Watford (h) -- Wood, Lowton (might be a stretch as they probably will concede both matches)
Chelsea: Manchester City (a), Brighton (a) -- Havertz, Mount, Lukaku, Alonso (might be a stretch as they probably will concede both matches)
Leicester: Burnley (a), Spurs (h) -- Maddison, Thomas (might be a stretch as they probably will concede both matches)
Man Utd: Aston Villa (a), Brentford (a) -- CR7, DDG (might be a stretch as they probably will concede both matches)
Spurs: Arsenal (h), Leicester (a) -- Son,Kane, Regi/Royal (might be a stretch as they probably will concede both matches)
Watford: Newcastle (a), Burnley (a) -- King, Dennis, Foster/Bachmann (might be a stretch as they probably will concede both matches)

In all, don't see a FH being viable for a pretty meh DGW. 6/7 DGWers with hits better off as SGW players look in form and with better fixtures.

Think BB is the worst chip right now tbh. Last thing you need is your BB players to not play at all as they return positive LFT/PCR or have a last-minute postponed match.

I can't be the first to notice this in the media this morning - relating to mental health of FF players.

I think we discussed it when the survey was doing the rounds. I filled it in saying I had no mental health issues, but mentioned that the nature of the questions seemed very biased, trying to tip you towards admitting some issues.

      1. Ze_Austin
        • 5 Years
        2 years, 3 months ago

I've done mental health surveys. The questions have to be framed that way, or people will automatically say "No", as denial is so popular and ingrained in most of us that it's the first response

If the answer is truly no, you will still say it regardless of question framing

For instance, no matter how I ask you if FPL affects your sleep, you will still say no if it doesn't. If you're in denial, the phrasing of the question will force you to go beyond that denial

Anonymity also helps pierce through denial, as you know the person reading your answers won't know who you are, so it becomes a very candid diary to finally face and identify those masked issues, at least for a few minutes

        1. Andy_Social

Yeah. Though I think trying to equate FPL to mental health isn’t right, and cheapens those who are suffering or have suffered with a mental health condition.

I get that FPL is a huge hobby for lots of us and a big part of peoples lives for some. But seriously, the two shouldn’t be tied in together. FPL is a game, for fun. Mental health for some, is endless suffering.

Why is everyone jumping on Maddison?

His "form" has come against Watford, Southampton, Newcastle and well the madness that was the nine goal game against City, granted. We've not even seen him start against Everton yet (he's flagged) in GW21 and whilst Burnley might be at the bottom of the table it's worth noting that they're Joint 8th for least goals conceded and Spurs are Joint 5th for least goals conceded. Furthermore all of Leicester's strikers are currently out injured/international duty.

Compared to other DGW mids he's stellar.

His recent form includes multiple double digit hauls. Very few other options with a double this week have that ceiling. Burnley are also a weak team. He's a clear pick this week.

Lots of negative comments towards the dgw announcement.
I for one, like the fixtures and the opportunity it creates

How are you assessing whether FH would be a success or played in the first place?

I have 3 dgw players and 1FT, so if using FH would you assess the points potential before and after using the chip or compare it to the average for other teams?

Guessing average would be around 6-7 dgw without hits…

Agreed, but first glance at my team shows me I only have 2 DGW players and that 8 of my SGW players have (arguably) 'bad' fixtures (or no fixture in the case of Salah)

        Ramsdale, Tomiyasu, Saka (TOT away)
        Cancelo, Dias (CHE home)
        Broja (WOL away)
        Watkins (MUN home)
        Salah (No fixture)

Think FH must at least be worth considering.... But I won't look in depth until next week.

Average for DGWs without hits will be much lower than 6-7. Probably closer to 3 or 4. But I imagine it'll be around 6ish DGW picks for most players in the top 100K accounting for FHs and the like.

So let’s say the avg is 5-6 post hits. Using FH you’d probably aim for 8-9 so I guess it depends if you go with the popular picks and only have a couple differentials which you could just get using hits or go a bit more out there, Hail Mary style and choose players with potential that you wouldn’t normally select without a FH. Let the mind games (properly) begin.

I’m yet to own Ronaldo this season and would love to somehow avoid this week on FH!

Only 3 DGW players for me. First thinking is FH with 9DGW players +Jota TAA the way to go (and cheap DGW's on bench).

Presumably future DGW's will feature less teams and will be easier to adapt too.

with only 3 DGW and 3 city, i think this is a good chance for a FH

    This worth a bench boost?

    De Gea
    Alonso - TAA - Cancelo
    Maddison - Bowen - Jota - Son
    Ronaldo (c) - King - Dennis (v)

    Ramsdale - Gray - Tierney - Coufal
