Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) is the standout captaincy candidate in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Double Gameweek 26, as Liverpool take on Norwich City and Leeds United at Anfield.

However, given the Egyptian’s recent schedule, which has already seen him rack up over 1000 minutes of action in 2022, is there a case to be made for team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5m)?

First, we will assess the fallout of the Double Gameweek 26 Captain Poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 GMT deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

In a predictably one-sided Captain Poll, Mohamed Salah is the runaway leader, having gained a whopping 79.39% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Meanwhile, team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold sits in second, having been backed by 8.49% of FPL managers.

Aaron Ramsdale (£5.1m), Bukayo Saka (£6.4m) and Diogo Jota (£8.5) make up the rest of the top five, though the Portuguese is falling, having picked up a midweek injury.

MOHAMED SALAH

Weghorst and Trippier’s injuries, Newcastle’s form and brilliant Bowen: FPL notes 7

Having already racked up 16 goals, 10 assists and 181 points, FPL’s top-scorer Mohamed Salah now faces the two teams with the worst defensive records in the division.

No matter what caveats we might apply about managed minutes, the fact is that the Egyptian has two favourable opponents, back-to-back at Anfield, in a Double Gameweek.

Norwich City’s recent improvements under Dean Smith were put in some perspective by Manchester City’s 4-0 win at Carrow Road last weekend, while Leeds United have conceded 26 goals and not kept a single clean sheet in their last nine matches.

The rotation risk has to be acknowledged, of course, and with Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League tie and an EFL Cup final against Chelsea sandwiching Double Gameweek 26, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see a degree of tinkering from Jurgen Klopp in the coming matches.

The German certainly has plenty of options at his disposal, even accounting for the loss of Diogo Jota (£8.5m) to injury, with Luis Diaz (£8.0m), Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino (£8.7m) all vying for starts, plus squad players like Takumi Minamino (£5.1m), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (£5.8m), Harvey Elliot (£5.3m), Divock Origi (£4.8m) and Kaide Gordon (£4.5m).

Notably, Salah has also featured for a total of 1051 minutes from 11 appearances in 2022 already, as broken down below.

Is it worth ditching Dawson / Dunk for Arsenal / Digne / Wolves defender?

I have already taken -4 this week!

However I think any hit should pay itself back over GK26-29

    My team is…

    Ramsdale, Sanchez
TAA, Robertson, Ait Nouri, Cancelo, Digne
    Jota, Bowen, Bruno, Ramsey, Martinelli
    Dennis, Edouard, Watkins

Would Jota + Bruno + Edouard to Salah, Saka and Jimenez (-8) be worth it.

Or should I just take the -4 and do Jota + Bruno to Salah and Saka be better?

Again, FPL app shows Jota is on 25% and Klopp literally said he won’t play vs Nor. Is it because he might play the second game?

    Which option is best?

A: DDG and Watkins (as is)
    B: DDG and Lacazette -4
    C: Ramsdale and Watkins -4
    D: Ramsdale and Lacazette -8

If you're not using FH in 27 then A

If FH in 27, I'd do D, providing you've already got rid of Jota presumably for Saka

Thanks. Already got Saka. I'm doing FH27, but started to think maybe King -> Jiminez instead and keep Olly. Could still get Ramsdale.

Sorry to bother you on Friday evening but a man's gonna do what a man's gotta do 😀

With all new informations the sensible move would be Coufal/Watkins âž¡ Saiss/Jimenez which allows me to save free hit for later. I have two FH chips and thought about using one next gameweek.

GW27: 4 from LIV/ARS on the bench, sell Jota and field 11 players (if they all stay fit)

But then again I can't help to ignore that gut feeling VVD is getting a monster haul and I don't know why, but I also think that Lacazette will finally step up and score in both games. If I want Virgil, I have to sell Jota and ideally I'd go for someone who has DGW now. So I'm considering Cornet and Zaha who are both quite important for their teams. Wilf is in slightly better form.

    TLDR:
1st option is buying 2 very good picks from this gameweek on and saving FH but going in DGW with just double LIV/ARS
2nd option is buying 2 penalty takers with decent fixtures and one defender who I expect to overperform

  11. Triple Free Bench Hit Boost

Bottomed. On a Free Hit and have a couple of options for the final team:

    Free Hit team 1:
    Ramsdale, 3.9
TAA, Tierney, Mee (or Coady), 3.8, 3.9
    Salah, Saka, Zaha, Raphinha, Son
    Kane, Jimi, 4.5

    Free Hit team 2:
    Ramsdale, 3.9
TAA, Tierney, Mee (or Coady), 3.8, Van Dijk
    Salah, Saka, Zaha, Raphinha, Son
    Kane, 4.5, 4.5

Basically, it comes down to the following questions:
    1) who do we think scores more points this DGW: Van Dijk or Jimi? Think VVD has a higher floor but Jimi maybe the higher ceiling.
    2) most people seem to be slightly more for Coady than Mee, right?
    3) any other option than Raphina (up to 6.5m). Not a lot of love for him because of the fixtures but only option i see is Cornet...

    1. Scholes Out For Summer

      Id go VVD over Jimi
Can you get Saiss? Maybe downgrade Zaha or Raph to someone else?

      1. Triple Free Bench Hit Boost
        • 3 Years
        3 years, 9 months ago

Could downgrade Raph to Cornet... that could get Saiss in for Mee/Coady
So thinking Saiss + Cornet beats Raph + Mee (or Coady)

From what I understand if you have all your chips left, there are a few options.

GW30 still a good gameweek for FH, given few fixtures, and not too many popular teams playing. This therefore leaves probably GW28 or 33 for the second FH. 28 is a good week, as lots of DGW teams that teams won't typically have too many players from. However, 33 possibly better to target if you can navigate through without too many hits and get the main players from the DGW28 teams.

I think the WC and BB is still best saved for later in the season. At the moment, if you wildcard you will still be taking lots of hits to navigate all these future DGWs, it's impossible to find a good balance to take in all the DGW teams.

      My current strategy

      TC26
      WC28
      BB29
      FH30*
      FH36

FH30 might become FH33 if I can get enough players for GW30

I'm leaning heavily toward WC28. Main reason is I've got too much garbage left in my squad that I need rid of sooner rather than later (Antonio, Watkins, Bilva, DDG, Dennis) and I'd rather be a few DGW players light for BB week than try to navigate another 3-4 GWs with those schmucks.
