FPL Gameweek 26 Scout Picks: Triple-ups on Liverpool and Arsenal

We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 26 ahead of Saturday’’s 11:00 GMT deadline.

We line up in a 4-3-3 formation and, as ever, are limited to an £83.0m budget – which we’ve hit bang on this week – for our starting XI.

Our four substitutes, meanwhile, are always picked from the budget/cheaper crop of players, not to serve as bench fodder but to give some alternative options who don’t cost as much as some of the names in our line-up.

We’ve made two changes to our team from the ‘bus team’ of earlier this week, with a Burnley forward and a Liverpool defender replacing teammates in the Scout Picks XI.

GOALKEEPER

Xhaka and Moura recalled as Ramsdale starts again

Aaron Ramsdale (£5.1m) has been in fine form for Arsenal this season, keeping 11 clean sheets and conceding just 16 goals across his 19 Premier League outings. Since making his debut in Gameweek 4, the England international is averaging 5.3 points per match, more than any other goalkeeper who has made more than one appearance.

His +5.20 expected goals prevented (xGP) tally is another league-leading figure, as are his 12 bonus points, and he’ll be facing a Brentford side who have scored just five goals in their last nine matches and a Wolves outfit who have the division’s third-lowest goals tally.

DEFENDERS

Such is our confidence in the Arsenal backline, who have five clean sheets in their last six matches at the Emirates, that we’ve doubled up on the Gunners rearguard. Kieran Tierney’s (£5.1m) points-per-match average is one of the best among FPL defenders this season (5.5) and the best since Gameweek 15 onwards (8.0), a purple patch that has seen him plunder four attacking returns and six clean sheets in eight outings.

The first of our bus team changes sees Virgil van Dijk (£6.7m) come in for Andrew Robertson (£7.1m). Partly influenced by budget, it also has a lot to do with security of starts: the Reds’ two Double Gameweek 26 fixtures are sandwiched by the Champions League and the EFL Cup final, so there is every chance that we may see a spot of rotation both this weekend and next Wednesday to ensure that fatigue isn’t an issue ahead of that Wembley appearance. Kostas Tsimikas (£3.7m) could easily get a run-out at left-back, then, but van Dijk hasn’t been benched in the league in any of his last four seasons on Merseyside. A threat of his own from set plays, the Dutchman is joint-second among defenders for attempts from free-kick and corners.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5m) joins van Dijk in our selection and, while everything that we said about Robertson also holds true with his fellow full-back, Alexander-Arnold can still do plenty of damage in whatever game-time he is afforded: he sits top of the defender standings, having returned two goals, 10 assists, 28 bonus points and 12 clean sheets across the season so far.

Wolves’ double-header is far from straightforward, with fixtures against Leicester City and Arsenal, who rank sixth and seventh respectively for actual goals scored. However, their standout strength under Bruno Lage has been their watertight defence. Across the season so far, their 17 goals conceded is bettered only by Manchester City, while no other side in the division has conceded fewer goals from open play. It’s also worth noting how vulnerable the Foxes have looked defending set-pieces this season, which could be good news for Romain Saiss (£5.0m), one of Wolves’ main aerial threats.

    Best move?

    A) Bruno + KDB > Salah + Son
    B) Watkins + KDB > Weghorst + Salah

An alternative for sure, and one I considered although I'm going to avoid taking the hit for Antonio, Jiminez hasn't convinced me enough to bring him in for a hit (but I will be bringing him in ahead of his second double on a free).

I was going to just start Ramsey, but Broja at home vs a messy Everton defense appeals, when you consider Watford away to Villa presents a tighter defense, as per Roy, who hate to score goals. It's either one of them or Edouard, but even with 2 fixtures he doesn't feel like the right choice.

I think it's Broja over Ramsey. Thoughts?

Let's talk Firmino. The guy is obviously not a good FPL in general any more. The question is if he actually is pretty sure of two starts this GW. If so, he becomes one. But he's kind of rusty, right? And if Jota is out, he is needed in the cups too.

For me it's between him and VVD

No just because Burnley have a thousand games per week to make up. And, Wout's role could be crucial for the next few fixtures, as he's a huge target man, and on set pieces could punish the poor set-piece defending of his opponents in at least GW 26. Plus, he has a nice first touch. In other words, I'm starting him lol (if he's fit).

    A) DDG --> Ramsdale (-4)
    B) Antonio --> Jimenez (-4)
    C) Stick

    DDG
    TAA* -- Reguilón* -- Cancelo
    Salah* -- Fernandes -- Saka* -- Bowen

I think Ramsdale is more important. (I know i know...i moved Antonio on myself recently). And I would absolutely take a hit to move Watford attackers out. Not what you want to hear of course. And would not want Reguilon. Sorry.

This is my current team without any hits. Was planning to do -4 at least for Antonio > Jim/Laca. I plan on using FH in 27

    DDG Foster
    Trent Cancelo White Coufal Dunk
    Salah Foden Jota Trossard Bowen
    Broja Edouard Antonio

Q1. Is a -4 or -8 enough because I'm aware I am carrying deadweight in Trossard, Dunk, Coufal. Or do I need to Wildcard?
    Q2. Who do I take the second hit for? Trossard > ? Dunk/Coufal > ? or Foster > ?

Triple Arse and Pool managers will be eyeing up a FH in 27, as they have even more doubles, are great options this GW, are in good form, and have nice fixtures etc. I'll have max of both and am very comfortable FHing in 27.

I used WC in 25 to set myself up and don't need to use FH. I have Ramsdale, Saka, Salah, TAA and Robertson. Debating to use my free to transfer Saka out but may keep and play 10 players only. I have De Gea for 27.

If I hadn't used WC then most likely would have used my FH in 27 or risked not using it.

        BB this week.

Liverpool scored 6 goals against Arsenal & Brighton this season and I don’t think they will be fearing them.

Funnily enough Liverpool scored 6 goals this season against Norwich & Leeds too.

Salah more likely to get minutes managed against the easy teams than against Brighton & Arsenal

So, BB 27 and TC in 29 looks a better combo for me than TC 27 and BB some other gameweek

That's a well reasoned argument. I am leaning towards Salah this GW simply because so many are doing it it may harmful to not keep up with such a popular choice. If you have a strong BB however, that becomes your mitigating factor, and very savvy. I do not, hence Salah gets the super armband for me.

This is that attention seeking content creation type stuff - going against 2 of the best defences in the league rather than home games vs Norwich and Leeds . Good luck

Will Salah start both games against Norwich & Leeds though ?

My bench this week is Sanchez, Foden, Cancelo & Antonio … which I am putting up against Salah x 2 games.

Can see Liverpool rolling over Arsenal & Brighton quite convincingly, scored 6 against the already this season and I can envisage it as a 20 point week for Salah 😉

Is there a case to you use 2 FH's and WC after GW31. The transfer plan i am going with allows that. But is it worth it?

Not sure when will you use FH and WC after that, especially if you have BB left.

Maybe FH33, FH36 WC when team needs it. That's about it.

    Foster (DDG)
    Trent Cancelo White (Coufal Dunk)
Salah (TC) Foden Jota Bowen (Trossard)
    Broja Edouard Jiminez

    On -4 right now.

    1. Would you take more hits here? If so, who?
    2. Would you WC here? (1 FH left, planned on 27)

DDG to Ramsdale/Sa is worth a hit.

Though WC may also be a good move as there's a lot of changes you need to make to strengthen your team going forward. Won't be able to TC Salah though

Are any games at risk of being cancelled due to the storm?

From what I read online, the winds are at 200kmph.

    Looks bad.

They were absolutely horrendous earlier - I’m apparently in the worst hit part of the country and it’s been fine for several hours now. (Not ruling out us being in for more yet)

I'm confidently starting him, and don't mind if he's rotated. His upside is sky high, Pool have another DGW soon, and he's in fantastic form. He's just an integral part of Klopp's plan, and sometimes seems to just dominant that left side. If he was injured, i might consider VVD.

Thanks guys. I appreciate this. I agree his upside is ridiculous. But VVDs security plus current form might just edge it

If you are taking a hit to sell him, there is value only if the incoming player scores at least 4 points more than your 1st sub. In my case, 1st sub is Laporte and I'm thinking if I should sell Jota for ESR/Coutinho.

    Foster (De Gea)
    TAA Cancelo Dias (Livramento) (Johnson)
    Salah(TC) Saka Bowen Raphinha (Trossard)
    Watkins Edouard Dennis

    0 ft, 4.0 itb

Planning on doing Dias to a Wolves defender for -4. Anything else worth a hit? Watkins to Weghorst? Or Foster to Ramsdale?

Did Johnson to Saiss before the price drop. Went from -8 to -12.

Johnson will most likely always be 3rd sub and with a lot of double gameweeks coming up there's no room for fodder who's not even getting games right now

Livra looks to have lost his place (I sold for Tierney). But Reg also isn't nailed and will free up more cash.
Probably would sell Reg if you don't need Livra this week.
