Earlier this afternoon the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) continued to drip feed us Fantasy managers more player prices for the upcoming season via their official twitter feed. Yesterday gave us Eden Hazard (9.5), Ji-Sung Park (6.0) and Pavel Pogrebnyak (5.0) and today we learned the cost of another trio, with the revelations prompting some mixed reaction:

Around quarter to one, the FPL decided to roll out the following information, looking at a couple of last season’s mid-term sensations and United’s brand new purchase from German champions Dortmund:

Here are today’s three player values: Gylfi Sigurdsson (TOT) £9m, Shinji Kagawa (MUN) £8.5m and Papiss Cisse (NEW) £9.5m.

Gylfi Sigurdsson is no longer a cut-price option, then. The Icelandic midfielder will now set you back 9.0 next season following his move to Tottenham – a far cry from his initial cost of 5.0 at Swansea last January. It’s the price of success, really; Sigurdsson ended the season with an average of 5.7 points per game last time round, the highest of any midfielder in the FPL game. This then asks the question of Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart’s respective new price tags. The Welshman finished as top scorer for Spurs in the 2011/12 campaign with 195 points, while Van der Vaart ended the season strongly and notched 167. Bearing in mind they kicked off last term at 8.0 and 10.0 respectively, we can expect a rise from Bale, while Van der Vaart could well sit around the same valuation. Sigurdsson’s new cost will give Fantasy managers plenty of problems in the Spurs midfield now – grabbing more than one is likely to prove problematic, handing us a real dilemma for the season ahead. Looking at other games, Sky has priced Sigurdsson as the cheapest of the three by some distance; he comes in at 7.3, while Van der Vaart is 8.0 and Bale is by far the priciest at 8.8.

United’s new playmaker Shinji Kagawa comes in at 8.5 in FPL and – even more so than the Spurs situation – is likely to hand us headaches as we ponder the options from a congested midfield area. The summer signing from Dortmund is vying with Antonio Valencia, Nani and Ashley Young for our attention and at that price, there’s every chance he could be the cheapest of the quartet; Nani and Young both started last term priced at 10.0, while Valencia averaged 5.2 points per game after starting at 8.0. If Kagawa can cement a starting role in his preferred position in “the hole”, the new boy could well be the one to watch from United – much depends on the pricing of the other three as to how we view his value. Certainly, in the Sky game Kagawa affords Fantasy managers the cheapest route into United’s midfield; he costs 7.6, in comparison to Valencia’s 7.9, while Young (8.3) and Nani (8.7) are even heftier on the budget.

Papiss Cisse’s goalscoring exploits in the second half of the previous campaign have had a significant impact on his new valuation. The Newcastle man has been slapped with a starting price of 9.5 – up substantially from the 7.0 he came in at last January upon his arrival from Bundesliga outfit SC Freiburg. Looking at the stats, it’s little wonder; Cisse finished the season with an average of 7.5 points per game over his 14 appearances, more than any player in FPL, with Robin Van Persie (7.1) in second spot. Whether in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2, Cisse racked up the goals, scoring 13 times, in addition to returning a couple of assists and 20 bonus points – if he can even close to maintaining such a level, the price tag still looks more than decent value; depending on the cost of Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero, Cisse could well find himself in plenty teams next time round. The Sky game has included Cisse amongst the heavyweights – coming in at 9.3, he’s the seventh priciest forward, with Van Persie top at 10.0.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I think the combination of unkind pricing and other options at the start of the season might kill off his bandwagon this year. 9.5 really is pushing it. Of course the pricing of his rivals will have a bearing on my thoughts...

I can see people saying it's not so bad - that's he only gone up 2.5 from last year. But he's not playing for one of the top six and we've got our fingers crossed on whether Newcastle can repeat their magical form.

Extrapolating from last year yes, but a change of a team and a season's break are what undermine the extrapolation... :/

Well everybody has a break. He's playing for a team that in theory should score more goals/earn more FKs/earn more corners.

For me he ticks all the criteria for a good FPL player.

Someone said 6M+ over the page but I really don't see that.
Graham/Holt had similar stats and were 5.0 (maybe Holt was 5.5?) and Pogrebnyak is only 5.0 at a promoted team.
      I'd say 5-5.5

i don't remember his ppg but i think the likes of jelavic, cisse, and of course the "big three" had a higher ppg

also, most of his goals unexpectedly came against the big teams when not many had him (i know this has nothing to do with lambert, just saying )

Well the likes of Jelavic and Cisse were insane value, averaging almost a goal every start- but they also came half way though the year, and are going to have massive increases in price.
The big three obviously outscored him, but they were almost 2.5 times his price.
Holt grabbed 12 goals in 24 starts, and also got 3 from the bench.

Can't see Lambert being more than 6.0 - maybe £5.5m would be my guess.

On pens and free kicks and makes loads of assists as well as scoring goals, hogs set pieces ... I think he's a very shroud pick.

Yaya will be all about his position. If he continues deep then he is worthless, if he is playing deep but Man City are losing then his move up the pitch in the final third of a game can be a points bananza. Sometimes he starts further up and then has the potential to be an assist machine.

In short there are jsut two many ifs and buts for yaya to justify any price above 8m. I think he'll be 9-9.5m and therefore overpriced for me. Much prefer Aguero or Silva as my early door Man City heavyweights.

I'm seeing a new strategy taking shape here if most of the forwards turn out massively overpriced. Go for cheaper forwards with a mix of sleepers and prospects (Bent, Torres, Lambert) and build an epic midfield with Kagawa, Hazard, Siggy etc.

Likes of Rooney if they score twice always get the MOTM bonus so a risk going for lesser strikers.

My strategy is same as it every was, play the fixtures and keep on top of price rises. Some of these 9m players will become 10m players pretty sharpish.

A cheap way into the Villa defence would be useful, good initial rotation with Swansea, West Brom AND West Ham - all of whom have decent fixtures and, perhaps, potential for cheap ins.

Agree on the rotation. I think the AVL defence has peaked though under McLeish - going by last season's form, his replacement Lambert will be getting much more goals and much fewer clean sheets. Obviously I'm looking closely at potential rotating defenders, it is hard to see where cheap clean sheets will come from.

Rotators need to be at most 4.5m for me - really struggling to see credible ones. The credibles (NEW, FUL, SWA, SUN et al) will all go up, possibly past 5m.

      All depends on price.
He could be 5.0 give he is from a newly promoted team and has no PL experience, or he could be 6.0 considering he hit double figures in both assists and goals last season.

Which players do you think have a good chance of making you money early on?

I am going for Adebayor. He always starts the season on fire and with those fixtures, he'll get goals. I remember i got him in for his debut last season, scored against Wolves, and then 2 against Liverpool, his price rocketed up. Similar when he was at City.

That would leave you less than £45m for your other 10 players. At the start you can usually afford 3 big guns, later in the season when you build up your transfer value you can squeeze another one in.

You won't be able to afford 5 x £10m+ players. Maybe look at 3 or max 4.

I did warn people the prices were going to be prohibitive this season and that plans were going to be completely ruined once the price list comes out.

Wait till you see Man City and Man Utd defender prices then!!

No, I think people were expecting Siggy to be at least £1m less, so common sense suggests Bale and VDV will be double figures. Citeh player prices will be astronomical.

Look at the projected teams people have been wishlisting and watch how many £m's they'd be overbudget when the game comes out.

This season the skill is going to be in building a team on a budget more than ever before.

Looking forward to the casuals slipping Silva in at about £11m. If he's that high, I don't consider him an option as he was never really a genuine captain choice.

To be fair, i don't think there can be many grumblings about the prices so far. Most people seem to be questioning Cisse's and Siggy's. If VDV leaves, Siggy could be well worth it even at 9. Cisse was playing like a 12m striker last season so if he keeps that up, however unlikely, he can do well too.

The defenders will be interesting though, along with Aguero and Rooney.

Seems fair enough to me so far.
Chelsea winger with excellent reputation - 9.5 fair enough
Reading striker with a few goals in the prem 5.0 - cheap if anything
      QPR mid - 6.0 standard
Set piece taking, attacking mid at Spurs - 9.0 seems fair
Newcastle striker with amazing goals to game ratio - 8.5 - seems fair
Man United attacking mid - 8.5 seems a bit cheap

Man Utd attacking mid with no Prem history.
Spurs mid likely to be jostling with VdV and Bale for FPL points. (Modric is leaving, VdV isn't).
Chelsea winger who has never kicked a ball in the Prem before and has Mata already established.

Expensive prices for basically gambles on players who we have no idea whether they will actually adapt to the Premier League.

          - Man UItd being the key to the above.

          - Really think VDV will stay? If so, Siggy still plays when VDV is injured, and arguably alongside him if he is fit. Seems to me AVB was very keen on Siggy and that must be for a reason - to play him.

          - Yeah fair enough, but Mata came in at £9.5m too

Just because he's playing for Man Utd doesn't mean he's guaranteed to be a success. Anderson???

Modric is going but no news on VdV going.

Yes, but Mata did not have Hazzard to take points off him last season did he!

Why are you comparing Anderson to Kagawa? Yeah, it doesn't mean he's going to be a success but it helps justify his price - especially for an attacking midfielder (unlike Anderson)

Agree Modric is going, strong links with VDV going too.

No but he had other players to take points off him. Basically, attacking midfielders from top clubs are priced high in case they get a good run in the team.

VdV is leaving IMO. We shall see but I think the noises coming out of various Spurs sources edge towards him leaving.

Mata, who had never kicked a ball before last year, and ended up as a great points scorer - why would that mean Hazard should be less.

Kagawa is a great player and any attacking United player priced less than 8.5 would be daft.

Also don't forget last year joining the Prem we had Jelavic, Cisse, Sigurdsson, Aguero all of whom scored very well.

Dear people complaining about Siggy and Cisse being oveprice,

The players who did the best last year will obviously be predicted to do well this year and will be priced accordingly. If they weren't this game would be too easy.

That doesn't mean all the players predicted to do well will do as well as predicted. Some players will do better than predicted. There will be good value players, just as there will be bad value players. We just don't know who they are yet, so stop complaining!

    Yours sincerely,

Totally agree with some of the earlier comments about the pricing being part of the game.

Working around the pricing is all part of the fun, spotting those bargains early on and making your money go further. Vorm and the Newcastle defence were prime examples of good value points scoring players last year.

Its only really possible to get three double digit/9m ish players early on and still have a respectable squad and getting the right ones and accepting that you can't have all the good players is key.

If you go for something like this

    gk- 9-10m
    def 27m
    mid 35m
    forward 28

...then you will have a nice spread and a very flexible team to jump on bandwagons with merit in whatever position.

If all midfielders who did well last year increase in the same degree that Siggy has, it's going to be difficult to find good mid priced midfield options. It could make it more interesting as last year everybody seemed to have pretty much the same midfield.

Players like Sessegnon will most likely be unattainable as cheap options now.
