FPL price predictions 2022/23: What Fantasy managers think

We recently invited you to guess the new prices of a number of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players ahead of 2022/23 – and now we can reveal some of the ‘groupthink’ results.

We listed 20 players who are either expected to rise in starting price (eg Reece James, Jarrod Bowen), fall in price (Bruno Fernandes) or are new/returning entrants to the Premier League (Aleksandar Mitrovic, Erling Haaland).

Over 1,000 of you took part, with Premium Memberships on offer to the three entrants whose guesses most closely resemble the actual starting prices when FPL relaunches.

Fantasy Football Scout regulars TopMarx and circusmonkey worked together on this competition, with the former returning here to discuss what the FPL community has voted for en masse.

Average price predictions

Who are the best FPL captain options for Double Gameweek 36?
  • £13.0m – Mohamed Salah
  • £12.0m – Erling Haaland
  • £11.5m – Son Heung-min
  • £10.0m – Bruno Fernandes
  • £9.0m – Luis Diaz
  • £8.0m – Bukayo Saka
  • £8.0m – James Maddison
  • £8.0m – Trent Alexander-Arnold
  • £8.0m – Dejan Kulusevski
  • £8.0m – Jarrod Bowen
  • £7.5m – Dominic Calvert-Lewin
  • £7.5m – Joao Cancelo
  • £7.5m – Callum Wilson
  • £7.0m – Eddie Nketiah
  • £6.5m – Conor Gallagher
  • £6.5m – Reece James
  • £6.5m – Aleksandar Mitrovic
  • £6.5m – Bruno Guimaraes
  • £6.0m – Jacob Ramsey
  • £6.0m – Ben Chilwell

Mohamed Salah would begin 2022/23 at his joint-highest ever starting price (£13.0m) if the Fantasy Football Scout users have called it right. The Egyptian’s tally of 265 points in the season just gone was his best since 2017/18 but a £9.0m listing for teammate Luis Diaz may present a selection headache for some FPL bosses.

Erling Haaland’s £12.0m projected price is slap bang in the middle of where Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo entered the game at in 2021/22, while we’re probably in best-case scenario territory with Son Heung-min (£11.5m) given that he only fell seven points short of Salah.

Bruno Fernandes would drop £2.0m if the average above materialises, while Dejan Kulusevski would increase by the same margin.

Eddie Nketiah, Bukayo Saka, Jarrod Bowen, Jacob Ramsey and Joao Cancelo would all be subject to £1.5m starting price rises, meanwhile.

If, by some miracle, the average prices are the actual starting prices, then we’d have two winners: Bertonian and Simonvs both match the average with 16 of their guesses.

Mode price and percentage (most frequently selected price)

The Complete Guide to FPL Pre-Season 2022/23 1
  • 59.7% – (£6.5m) – Aleksandar Mitrovic
  • 56.0% – (£8.0m) – Trent Alexander-Arnold
  • 53.9% – (£13.0m) – Mohamed Salah
  • 53.0% – (£6.5m) – Reece James
  • 49.9% – (£6.0m) – Ben Chilwell
  • 45.6% – (£7.5m) – Dominic Calvert-Lewin
  • 43.1% – (£7.5m) – Callum Wilson
  • 40.8% – (£7.5m) – Joao Cancelo
  • 40.5% – (£5.5m) – Jacob Ramsey
  • 39.5% – (£8.0m) – James Maddison
  • 39.2% – (£6.5m) – Conor Gallagher
  • 37.8% – (£9.0m) – Luis Diaz
  • 36.6% – (£12.0m) – Erling Haaland
  • 36.5% – (£8.0m) – Bukayo Saka
  • 35.7% – (£10.5m) – Bruno Fernandes
  • 35.6% – (£11.5m) – Son Heung-min
  • 34.8% – (£8.0m) – Jarrod Bowen
  • 34.7% – (£6.5m) – Bruno Guimaraes
  • 33.9% – (£6.5m) – Eddie Nketiah
  • 30.8% – (£8.0m) – Dejan Kulusevski

The mode differs from the average for only three players: Bruno Fernandes (average £10.0m, mode £10.5m), Jacob Ramsey (£6.0m, £5.5m) and Eddie Nketiah (£7.0m, £6.5m).

A number of other players were very close, however, including Joao Cancelo: 40.8% think he’ll be £7.5m but 40.6% (two people fewer) reckon he’ll cost £7.0m.

Subbing Ryan off for penalties has worked for Australia. Going to the World Cup!

I am moving from Brazil to Australia (Sydney) next month with a skilled professional visa 🙂 So I am happy Australia will play in the WC! I can't wait to be there! But FPL-wise I think it will be a challenge to keep up with games...

Nice! I think there's an increasing number of FPL players who are just happy with just relying on data and some highlights irrespective of timezone, because many don't want to watch whole games after losing interest during the pandemic. Think you'll be fine, the main problem will be late team news. Hopefully no weather, new virus or affenpocken postponements.

I moved from Melbourne to the US just over 10 years ago.
The ability to PL games here has been so good compared to middle-of-the-night back home.

Good luck to you! My brothers are still pulling it off with varying success.

The time difference between Sydney and NZ is not huge. I miss most of the early team news pre deadline but that is not a big issue. Depending on the hours you work you can still see a lot of the games in full. Good luck with the move, I must admit that I think Melbourne is a nicer place to work and live than Sydney but that is just my choice.

Enjoy Sydney! Lived out there for a while myself; worked right by Circular Quay.

Take a few exploratory walks around the CBD (find the food spotsnfor lunch!) & Northern shores. Some really lovely areas - then you can look a bit further afar.

Don't worry about FPL timings TOO much. About 4-5 seasons back I managed a 10k rank whilst out there.

Usually you'll just set it before going to bed if a 12:30 - 15:00ish deadline. Was alight for me as I sleep late - but may be different for you! The random 19:00s (GMT) are slightly tricker to navigate 😛

I lived there for best part of 10 years before moving back to UK, last few years were in Maroubra which is a great spot. I did struggle with FPL a bit tbh, I was forever missing price rises and such. I've started to take it a lot more seriously now. It's more than dooable though if you are dedicated, just look at some of the ORs of people frequenting these boards with unfavourable time zones.

      Good luck!

Could be a good team to start with -

    Raya - 4m
    Chilwell - Mitchell - White - Ait Nouri - 4m
    Salah - Son - Bowen - Gray - 4.5
    EBH - Bamford - Mitrovic

    Should work out well 😀

How much do you think each player will be btw?

Im not a fan of Gray, feel Ait Nouri is a rotation risk with Marcal lurking. Not sold on arsenal defence now they have europa

conceptually I'd rather Bamford was a 4.5 and you had a couple more 6.5 defenders.
      or something like that.

i also find the whole "make a team with no prices or fixtures" thing a little pointless from a practical point of view - but if it's fun for you go for it!

I wouldn’t bother with Manchester. I’ve been to Old Trafford 4 times and the atmosphere was non existent. Brentford I’d recommend. Pub on each corner too (not 100% sure if this is still the case).

Don't forget to visit some of the rural areas, we have some nice country pubs, seaside walks, and lush green countryside.

London has more touristy sights to see, but the football is better in Manchester and Liverpool atm. They're not far away from eachother you could visit both quite easily. That way you could get a look at Ronaldo, Haaland and Jordan Henderson all in one trip.

I left the UK a couple years ago but used to live in Manchester & London. Manchester has little to recommend it in general imo, I didnt like it much. Liverpool is pretty nice to wander around for a day or two. Anfield is great but difficult/expensive to get tickets. If you've never been to London its well worth it. If you get lucky with timing, seeing Liverpool away Palace/Brentford would be a great idea as mentioned above

And so the hypothetical tinkering begins...

        Raya (4.5) / (4.0)

        Robertson (7.5) Cancelo (7.0) Chilwell (6.0) Trippier (5.5) Cash (5.5)

        Son (11.5) Diaz (9.0) Bowen (8.0) Bruno G (6.0) / (4.5)

        Haaland (12.0) / (4.5) (4.5)

Total - 100m if prices correct. Thoughts?

Similar to what I've been thinking tbh.

I was thinking of Robbo, Cancelo and James at the back with either Digne/Cash/Trippier/Reguilon as my third defender (someone around the 5.5m mark) with maybe a crystal palace cheap defender maybe Mitchell if he is still 4.5 (maybe even Tsimikas or a similarly cheap player to be 3rd on bench).

I'm also wanting to go without Salah, depending on fixtures, so Diaz will be my Liverpool midfielder alongside Son. Bruno G is tempting but other than Son and Diaz I haven't thought too much about my midfield.

I'm hoping for Haaland up top with maybe mitrovic (or someone else around the 6.5m mark) and then a 4.5.

Rank from best to worst...the premium forward options this season:

        1) Haaland
        2) Kane
        3) Nunez

        ...the best premium midfield options:
        1) Son
        2) KDB
        3) Salah
        4) Bruno F

        ...the best premium defender options:
        1) Robertson (cheaper than Trent)
        1) Trent (especially if he is less than 8.5)
        3) Cancelo
        4) James

            Kane over Haaland?!

Mind you if your going for Salah over Son you still need a spurs attacker so Kane makes sense.

Yes … I don’t think Kane has his crybaby start to the season this time, so expect a more consistent start … he plays every game, on pens, established in league and Spurs will strengthen. As great as Haaland is, he may need to bed in.

Salah starts the season well … we’ll it’s just Salah so no reason needed really. It comes down to me preferring to start with the known entities at the start of the season.

Just wait though, I’ll end up starting with the other two.
