With defensive injuries stacking up, Steve Bruce’s Sunderland will be looking to combat their frailties at the back by scoring plenty of goals at the opposite end of the pitch. Darren Bent’s proven pedigree is set to spearhead much of the team’s attacking play as they look to build on their current position of 7th in the Premier League.

Looking at Sunderland’s upcoming fixtures (BOL, mun, BLP, BLA, avl, NEW) you would expect the Black Cats to feel confident, particularly ahead of the Stadium of Light encounters; Bent surely looks likely to add to his 7 goal tally for the season over the Christmas period.

Fantasy Mangers will be considering their attacking options right now as uncertainty looms over the troubled Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov attempts to edge back into the United starting lineup at Stamford Bridge. Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres are yet to ignite and look somewhat of a gamble, so, as Fantasy Managers hunt for a guaranteed goalscorer to complement the mid-price potential of Andy Carroll and Johan Elmander – Darren Bent stands out as a strong option.

Priced at £8.6 million in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Bent is far from unobtainable at a time when many Fantasy Managers have cash to burn as the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Rafael Van der Vaart and Frank Lampard limp back into the reckoning.

The form of Danny Welbeck and Asamoah Gyan is a consideration and will keep Bent on his toes. Indeed, Chairman Niall Quinn has only recently commented on the competition for places up front…

“Danny Welbeck’s put a spanner in the works, and it won’t be long before Fraizer Campbell’s back from injury. He was on fire this summer, and we thought he’d have a really good year. It’s healthy competition, and hopefully all four of them can bounce off each other for the next few months, and we can have a strong finish to the season.”

But with Welbeck able to operate on the right-wing and Gyan often benched, Bent’s position as the club’s principal striker has been established and he should be considered an almost dead-cert to be in the starting XI.

With a stuttering International career for England, blighted by bad luck, Bent will be hoping to build up some decent form going into the next batch of Euro 2012 qualifiers in the New Year. He could be the perfect reliable source of points over Christmas, as Fantasy Mangers look to bring some stability to their lineups in an unpredictable season.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

      Defoe weekly scoring pattern:

      2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 2, 25, 2, 1, 2, 2, 2, 16.

He is too hit and miss imho, and guaranteed you sell him on the week he gets a hattrick.

exactly what I am saying below. Bent is a name, that's it at the moment, while there is nothing stopping him exploding back into form, it's just relying on a players reputation, and that reputation was solidified last year when he was the only striker worth a grain of salt on that team.

Not sure...the stats do indeed back Gyan but it looks as though Bent is a more secure starter. Plus there's the issue of spot-kicks - Bent always seems to dig one of those out when he hits a drought.

I had a dream Bent was benched this weekend but came on after 55 mins with the score at 0-0. Gyan was replaced and the pair had a blazing row as the swapped.

Most pointless dream ever, especially as I have no interest in Bent at present.

I just saw a report that Bent is not a certain starter anymore with Gyan and Welbeck.

Last season Bent scored goals because he played as a lone striker and K. Jones was hardly playing/scoring.

This season Bent has other goalscorers with Gyan and Welbeck.

IMO Bent is not a great option...

I agree at the moment. He needs to prove his form. Having fired another blank last week, Bruce may decide Gyan and Wellbeck are worth a start.

Personally, I would play all 3 as a front 3 with Henderson, Cattermole, Richardson in mid.

I have to say that without some stats to back these watchlist articles up I don't see the merit in them. I was thinking about Darren Bent, and as a member I know I can access the OPTA stats myself, and will now of course. Bent is a former favourite? yes, is he on form? no, is he guaranteed a starting place? no. How then do we decide whether he can get some goals? stats, how many shots has he had on target in the last few games, what's his average position on the pitch etc?

Not having a go, I just think it's like doing a watchlist on Rooney because he has a nice run of fixtures, bet depending on where he is playing, how many shots he is getting off, is Berbatov playing, it means little to nothing.

Looking to bring in Kryiagos but, still a tad nervous about his holding onto his place with Agger returning. Can any Liverpool supporters put odds on his starting the next 3 or 4 games?

If Ky only gets 2 or 3 then Konchesky or Samba become more attractive.

hodgson said last week agger isnt training with the first team yet so i think itll be the new year before hes ready to play 90mins

also his recent comments wont have helped him

plus if he does take kyrgiakos place then skrtel is on 4 yellows and only a matter of time before he gets one and then kyrgiakos is back in

and you have your wildcard if you need to get rid

Maybe the post is the answer to my question.

Lads I know everybody hate it but please give me some advice and sorry for repeating.

Ok lads 2 free transfers and forward line consisted of Drogba and K. Davies.

Money in the bank, the original plan was bringing Torres and Tevez, but considering Torres form, feeling that Che will become good with Lamps back and after Man Utd they have great fixtures, so maybe only one transfe,r offloading Davies and again dilemma Torres or Tevez to be brought in.

Really, really don’t know what to do, anybody kind to help me. I think I am not gonna leave 2 transfers again this season its so difficult with to much combination available.

So to sum it up its:
Drogba and Davies for Torres and Tevez or
Davies to Torres or Tevez and save the transfer again.

    Cheers,

P.S. Who will give me advice I promise advice back.

I would go davies to torres imo. Torres' fixtures are great up until february and he will be a guarenteed starter and he is highly unlikely to be sold in january.

save you trasfer till next week and then bring in lamps, i know how much you love lamps, and its your love for him that makes me think he is worth investing in, so i plan to do the same.

expecting some big scores from johnson over the next few weeks, hes been getting so far forward only a matter of time before he starts getting rewards similar to start of last season

plus ive always wanted to captain a defender!!

hodgson said last week agger isnt training with the first team yet so i think itll be the new year before hes ready to play 90mins

also his recent comments wont have helped him

plus if he does take kyrgiakos place then skrtel is on 4 yellows and only a matter of time before he gets one and then kyrgiakos is back in

and you have your wildcard if you need to get rid

Guys, with a current backline of Kolarov, Baines, Vidic, Coleman and Jara, would I be mad to bring in Kyriakos for Coleman (giving a defender from City, Liverpool, United and Everton).

Overkill or nice to have solid options every week?

    Horrible re-post.

    Team for this week:

    Foster
    Jara Konch Toure
    Nasri Nani Cahill N’Zog
    Torres Tevez Carroll

    (Hahn, Vidic, Coleman, Davies)

Seem about right? Don’t like Cahill in there really.

Balotelli is going to have a monster haul at some point (if he can stay on the pitch). If you have money, upgrade Piq.

8 point hit is an 8-point hit. However...

If you are planning on keeping all 3 players over the next 4-5 gws, then I say go for it. All solid choices with good fixtures (Nasri is capable of getting something regardless of opposition).
