Sky Sports’ World Cup Fantasy game is now live!

With Qatar 2022 less than a fortnight away, you can begin picking your Sky teams now – and you could be £10,000 richer by Christmas.

We’re delighted to report that we’ll be partnering with Sky ahead of the big kick-off, bringing you introductory articles on rules, scoring, strategy and more.

It is the same free-to-play Sky Sports game you know and love but it will be appearing at the World Cup for the first time in 12 years.

A first prize of £10k is on offer, with the manager finishing second netting £1,000 and the bronze medal position worth £500.

ENTER YOUR SKY FANTASY TEAM HERE

BASIC RULES

Anyone who has played the Sky Premier League Fantasy game will be able to pick up the World Cup version with ease.

For those new to Sky, let’s keep things simple.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Pick 11 players, with no limitation on how many you choose from each country
  • Keep within a £100m budget
  • Choose from one of six formations: 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-5-1, 3-5-2, 5-3-2 or 3-4-3

GAMEROUNDS

There will be seven ‘Gamerounds’ (aka Gameweeks) during the World Cup:

  • Matchday 1 – starts on 20/11/22
  • Matchday 2 – starts on 25/11/22
  • Matchday 3 – starts on 29/11/22
  • Round of 16 – starts on 03/12/22
  • Quarter-final – starts on 07/12/22
  • Semi-final – starts on 11/12/22
  • Final – starts on 15/12/22

TRANSFERS

During each of the above ‘Gamerounds’, you are allowed to make up to three transfers to your side.

These can be made after each calendar day or at the start of each calendar day ahead of the first kick-off.

So for example, you could pick an Ecuador player on Sunday 20 November, bank their points, and transfer them out for an England player in action on Monday 21 November – providing you make the move before Monday’s fixtures kick off.

You will not be able to roll over your transfers if you do not use your allocated three during a given round.

CHIPS

The Overhaul (think a Wildcard if you’ve only played FPL and not Sky before) will take place from the last kick-off time in Matchday 3 up until the first kick-off in the Round of 16.

Essentially, it allows you to make unlimited changes to your side before the knockout rounds start.

CAPTAINCY

You can have a captain every day in Sky Sports Fantasy Football!

Whenever there is a World Cup match taking place, there is a captain available to score you double points.

The deadlines for transfers and captaincy selections will remain as the first kick-off on each day there is a World Cup match.

SCORING

The scoring follows the Sky Premier League game, with bonus awarded for passing, saves, shots on target and tackling.

Kulusevski, Rashford, Trossard, Saka are the ones I'm thinking about getting.

No more just before the deadline hits for me this season. Taking our Salah and Foden for KDB and Rashford cost me 11 points. Not sure why I even got Rashford expect I was panicking. I could have afforded Maddison or Saka.

Did Qatar bleed FIFA so dry they cannot even stump up a prize for the official fantasy game?
Also, couldn't afford a proofreader to go over the rules. "You will be given a limited allocation of free transfers to USED over the course of the World Cup". "There will be STRICTIONS on how many players".

    Joke organisation.

KDB and Nunez or Salah and Solanke? Basically KDB to Salah or Solanke to Nunez as free transfer this week. Could even be Mitrovic to Nunez if he's out again.

Wish my Salah to KDB transfer never went through before deadline but it did unfortunately.

Since FFS has so much clout and the likes of Az/Sam etc. all appear on the Official show from time to time, have there been any steps by any party to at least request a comment from Official FPL for the site being garbage?I tried to change (C) to Salah at 1.15 on Saturday and couldn't, I'm not in any cash leagues so it's not the end of the World but it seems to me that the voiceless (all of us) should have a voice through FFS and all of the most notable FPL Social Media Influencers.

Why did you leave it so late, especially as you know they have had issues before when some idiot on Twitter leaks team news. It was to try and sneak what some would call an unfair advantage over those who couldn't be around at that time. You had a choice and you took a risk that backfired?

I hope it keeps going down until the leaks stop personally but each to their own. Blame the guy leaking the info and yourself for taking a risk. Not FFS or FPL

If a train is scheduled to leave the station at 1.30 and that’s been the schedule all year … but decides to depart at 1.15 instead for no good reason …. And I miss my train despite being there on time … is that my fault or the train operator?

So do you expect FPL to spend what will be a fortune scaling up their infrastructure to cope with a sudden spike in traffic every time some moron on Twitter decides to spoonfeed the ones who are able to sit on Twitter all day waiting for a leak? FPL are trying to stop this unfair advantage by taking the deadline back. Why would they spend money so people can get away with these leaks . In fact I like to think they may have crashed the servers on purpose as a message to everyone to stop waiting on leaks 😆

The site hasn’t only crashed because of leaks though bud…..other fantasy games in this technological age cope perfectly well with much much higher usage both pre and post deadlines.

Maybe but when they run their stress testing on the site/servers they probably don't account for the traffic created by leaks. This one was huge and one of the biggest awaited leaks in FPL history no doubt. By improving the serevers they are just encouraging more leaks. By not doing so they are making people think twice. Will you be leaving it late next time ? 😉

You’ve played this amazing game long enough to know that they are simply struggling to adapt to the huge increase in the number of people that are now playing (something they themselves have proactively encouraged). Will I leave it late next time ❓ as late as I possibly can as any benefit I can get I’ll grab. I’ll return the question Pumpkin 😉 when the dgw’s arrive and their systems melt down cause every man and his dog are trying to make their last moves will you still be so understanding ❓ I do get your point bud as I can see both sides but they are taking the p***s…..that’s not really up for debate imo.

Of course I would be annoyed but I go in knowing the risks. Don't get me wrong I think FPL are a joke. It did cost me a few points this week actually although I was lucky enough to change my captain . Don't forget the servers went down last time so it's not as if folk can say they didn't expect it. Imo this whole leak thing needs to be stopped any way they can. The game is also free to play like I say, unlike a few others which do charge

Call me old fashioned, but I expect it to do what it says on the tin. A server should be able to handle the traffic - that’s really the only issue. All the other points about fairness etc are rather on the periphery of the point I feel.

The irony is that content creators are the main problem. I don't blame them; its how they earn good tom on the deadline streams. There will always be people who take advantage of frailties in the system. It would be an irony if they were to complain about it on the main media platforms.

why wouldnt you blame the site? every other fantasy league allows changes right up until games start with no server issue. Why should fpl get a pass for the site crashing 15 minutes before the deadline?

An out of the norm team for GW17 onwards:
    Ward Iverson
    Trippier White Estupinan Patterson Castagne
    Salah KDB Almiron Martinelli Andreas
    Haaland Kane Greenwood
I have 1 mil in the bank to cover price drops and injuries.

There are 4 premiums in this team with heavy owned Martinelli and Trippier.

An honest opinion will be appreciated.

    1. Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo
      • 5 Years

Someone else floating 4 premiums... is this unusual then or actually what the template will look like?

What I'm looking at is almost the opposite approach. Something like:

      De Gea/Raya
      Trippier/Cancelo/Castagne/Shaw/Dalot
      Bailey/Mount/KDB/Almiron/Trossard
      Haaland/Wilson/DCL or Jesus

I like that yours is slightly more World Cup proof but Belgium and England going deep could force a change of plans.

Do you really need 4 premiums? Seems redundant to me.

    Don't know if anyone else has seen the following news;

Man City have secured the services of a set piece analyst from Brentford, who will begin work over the world Cup break.

This could indicate a change in corner, free kick takers etc etc!?

Got to say, man city do need to work on their corners (coming from a City fan!)

        You think?

I can see a big shake up with corner kicks. City always seem to play the ball into the box but as a team they are all quite short (besides Haaland, Rodri, Akanji etc). I always think we need to play short or to the edge of the box etc. However with Haaland here now, this wouldn't be as effective.

KDB corners always seem a little disappointing too...

                Mum - 5ft 10
                Dad - 6ft
                Brother - 6ft 1

1.8 is almost six foot isn't it?

If he starts working over the world cup break he will basically be there with Erling and Pep plus a few youngsters. Wouldn't expect a change before February.

but the rules are also a bit different. Don't underestimate the point for every 3 tackles. Guess Tyler Adams is a good budget option for the first two games (assuming he will two yellows then and won't be eligible for the third group game)

      Well said.

It's an absolute f-ing disgrace how it's been allowed to happen. Admittedly, I will still follow the world Cup and watch games here and there but I certainly don't agree with it. If I boycotted it, there would be no affect. We need a country in the world Cup to boycott or presenters/commentators/broadcasters etc.

Yes Gary Neville I'm talking to you...(anyone else watch have I got news for you this week).

All it takes is a couple of influential people to speak out.

But then the argument is these workers died for no reason...

It's truly messed up that we find ourselves in this situation. It's 2022!!

      1. Deulofail
        • 9 Years

Uh, you are still participating by watching games and playing fantasy football. Deleting your account would be the least you could do if you feel that strongly.

The argument that people would have died for no reason is surely enjoyed by people who benefit from this atrocity. We're talking about your right to watch some light entertainment on telly or play a dumb fantasy game. How would that be a good way to honour the dead? Surely, setting a precedent that modern slavery is not tolerated would be a better legacy for those who gave their lives and the families still affected by it. That's why people set up foundations to raise awareness and fight things after loved ones die.

        1. TanN
          • 4 Years
          3 years, 1 month ago

          Not my point at all...

In referring to the mindset that they died for nothing I'm just showing the alternative argument. Not my viewpoint at all!

I'm not playing fantasy football, at least I'm not considering it yet anyway. I'm going to support my team in the World Cup, but I am also going to make sure that I make it clear I don't agree with the place its being held in. I'm not happy with human slavery. Workers being killed. Workers having terrible conditions. The rich benefiting from the occasion (Beckham).

If I was a public figure I would 100% boycott. But as a 17 year old, my voice wouldn't be heard or have any bearing on changing the situation. I would happily donate some money to charities or foundations supporting those affected. I would happily sign a petition to get new laws introduced. I would happily not watch the games, but if everyone else is why should I not watch? One person cannot make the difference unfortunately. And that's the sad thing.

Really really reaching hahaha. FFS aren't responsible for the Qatar World Cup, and only benefit very indirectly. Yes, I would prefer it if they condemned it and gave better information about alternative games to play or ways to watch, but ultimately I'm going to be commenting on this site regardless of the article, so it makes no difference. At least I'm commenting to try and do good, as you have done with your replies here (besides this last one).

I have already bought an old replica shirt for my nephew so as to avoid sending money down official channels for the Qatar WC. I'm not going to play the official Fantasy Game. As you can see below, I'm not planning to watch any officially licenced streams. Seems you are the one who just want to watch in peace instead of acting as you preach 😉

Looking for an objective perspective. Planning to enable Mitrovic to Nunez with 2FT (need 0.3-0.4)

    A) Pope downgrade
    B) Bowen downgrade*
    C) Dalot out (but lose 0.2 on a player I'd bring back on wildcard)
    D) Most radical and uncomfortable route: Cancelo downgrade

(* own Rashford, Andreas, Martinelli fwiw)

I'll speak my mind on each option for you...

      A) Pope had a tough final game against Chelsea. But lots be honest, at this point I can see newcastle winning the game. With a CS? Maybe not, but it is certainly a possibility. I wouldn't normally take out a keeper like this, but doing so would allow you to go with a team with better odds of a CS. And it frees up a newcastle slot (if you fancy almiron).

      B) Bowen downgrade to Zaha/Maddison etc may work out for you. Probably a nice move to get in Zaha, should be enough to fund the nunez transfer.

      C) I wouldn't bother for one week. Just bench him.

      D) nah don't go there! Playing Brentford so CS and attacking returns a high possibility. Equally you could just downgrade to another city asset (akanji). However, city defenders are often rotated and with Chelsea midweek I'd want to keep an eye on minutes. At least Cancelo is fully rested!

      I'd go for option A or B.

      I'd be tempted with a -4 maybe...

Pope, Mitrovic, Bowen --> GK, Nunez, Zaha?

    Help me make ethical choices!

Who gets money from unlicensed sports streams? I'm reading that they aren't actually illegal, since they aren't creating a copy of copyrighted material. Albeit this is American law. This would explain why advertising for famous brands on the host sites (and via the video player) is possible without recrimination. Does anyone know more about this? Would I be right in thinking that the only money that gets back to the official channels (ie the licensee and partners) is from whoever is paying for the stream at the source before sharing it with everyone else?

Many thanks for your insight 🙂

What's getting out of hand? I'm not writing this OP with you in mind at all. This is about trying to make a better choice for me.

You're really not understanding my point at all. Watching games or highlights via official routes is supporting, or literally giving money to, those who benefit from the wrongdoings of this World Cup.

I would be much more comfortable watching it illegally.
