The Scoreboard presents all the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) numbers you need from Saturday’s matches on one screen.

As well as LiveFPL‘s rundown of the goals, assists and bonus points from the day’s FPL action, we’re bringing you a selection of the Opta stats that arrive in our Premium Members Area almost immediately after full-time in each fixture.

There won’t be the usual Scout Notes article to follow this piece as a six-week break from the Premier League now follows.

We will, however, return with plenty of wider FPL analysis of each club in the build-up to the Boxing Day restart.

BRIEF ROUND-UP

A Gameweek that promised so much on paper delivered so-so returns for many on Saturday, with the top four most-captained assets – Erling Haaland (£12.2m), Mohamed Salah (£12.8m), Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£12.6m) – all blanking.

There were some notable success stories when it came to Gameweek 16 punts, however, with Darwin Nunez (£8.9m) delivering the goods with a 13-pointer in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Southampton. Three big chances came the Uruguayan’s way against Saints – two of them converted – and his minutes-per-expected-goal-involvement (xGI) figure is now second only to Haaland among FPL assets with meaningful game-time to their names.

No player has created more chances than Andrew Robertson (£6.7m) in Gameweek 16 so far, meanwhile, with two of his six key passes resulting in assists. There’s a good debate to be had over which of the Scot and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m) is the more attractive pick for overhauled Gameweek 17 squads, although there are again question marks over Liverpool’s defending after Southampton became the latest team to breach the Reds’ backline and rack up three big chances in the process.

Patient owners who kept faith in Ivan Toney (£7.4m) and Phil Foden (£8.3m) were rewarded with tidy scores: that duo were responsible for all three goals at the Etihad, with City’s defence unable to handle Toney and allowing him five big chances in all. Foden, meanwhile, has outshot every other FPL asset in Gameweek 16 so far (seven goal attempts).

The three best defences in the division, on current six-match form, continued their purple patches with clean sheets. Leicester City, Newcastle United and Arsenal didn’t allow any of their opponents a single ‘big chance’ on Saturday en route to their shut-outs; they now have a combined 13 clean sheets in their last 18 collective fixtures. Danny Ward (£4.1m) has collected 52 points in his last eight starts, while Kieran Trippier (£5.9m) has now delivered 15 bonus points in his last 10 outings alone.

Some form players delivered attacking returns further forward, too.

Rodrigo (£6.3m) and budget midfielder Crysencio Summerville (£4.4m) both scored for the fourth match in a row, with the former now ahead of all other FPL midfielders for goals scored in 2022/23. Miguel Almiron (£5.8m), the man previously at the top of the pile, at least banked an assist in Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Chelsea to continue a run of just one blank in eight appearances.

Harry Kane (£11.6m) meanwhile became the second player after Haaland to pass a century of points this season with a double-digit return against Leeds, while Marcus Tavernier (£4.9m) now has six attacking returns in three games following two contributions in Bournemouth’s thumping of Everton.

Morgan Gibbs-White (£5.5m) was again deployed as the spearhead of the Nottingham Forest attack and scored in a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, with Steve Cooper starting two £4.2m-rated FPL defenders at centre-half. Wilfried Zaha‘s (£7.5m) feast-or-famine form continued with a penalty miss in that game.

In the final match of the day, Martin Odegaard (£6.4m) left his more widely owned team-mates in the shade with a brace in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Wolves. Just one single point separates him, Gabriel Martinelli (£6.8m) and Bukayo Saka (£8.0m) in the FPL points table, with Odegaard now ahead of that pair for goals scored.

Papers say Ronaldo is out of the squad today, I suspected his "illness" came at a very convenient time so that he could ensure he doesn't miss the World Cup without having his ego bruised while sitting on the bench twice. I'd be surprised if he was legitimately ill

Regarding official Wc fantasy game, the only prizes on offer are two tickets to the world cup final? (that too without expenses?) Dam that seems underwhelming... also how does it actually work? Is final not a part of the scoring for the game? Will the game end after like quarters/semis?

Don't complain, in the official WC fantasy game last 100 players will get beheaded.

They're not gonna wait 4 years to collect the prize when a few photos and a TV crew make it look a lovely smiley FIFA moment. Decent prize if you don't mind the complete dodginess of world cup being in Qatar. But there's dodginess everyhwere in football with some club owners being above the law if they've enough cash.

I want to set up a bus team now as I think the longer the break goes on, the harder it is to feel 'in the zone' for FPL decisions, as all the accumulated little eye-test details start to fade. But I'll still adjust it depending on which players make a deep run in the WC and/or face multiple extra time games.

Kane is certainly one of those I'd be concerned about, but if England bust early I might finally (and slightly reluctantly) include him in a 3 premium team something like this:

      Ward Iversen
      Trippier Gabriel Dalot Akanji Patterson
      KDB Maddison Martinelli Almiron Andreas
      Haaland Kane Darwin

Cancelo's absolutely surrounded by defenders with similar returns be he costs a bucket load more. That couple of million can probably be spent better elsewhere imo.

FPL managers who have tried to cover Cancelo with other man city defenders have got burnt so far this season. You have to stump up the cash.

An xGI marginally above Romain Perraud (2.09 v 2.05) is not exactly what we expect from Cancelo. 9th on that list overall & so far down the page on mins/BBPS that I can't even count it (below Amartey, Azpi, Tarkowski, Dier etc etc)

Leeds away, Chelsea away, ManUtd away, Spurs away in their first 6. I'm of the opinion that if you're going to go without a City defender at any stage of the season, this is the time. I think I'll be doing it. I'm sure Cancelo will still get returns but is he worth 7.2/7.4m and a possible attacking City spot for that period? I don't think so

Akanji & Kane are the 2 least certain spots. I'm really undecided about Cancelo right now - if I do get 3 premiums I think he's the one I'll sacrifice (instead of Darwin/Maddison) but I'm also aware that starting with no City defence (GW1) probably wasn't smart and the likes of Walker/Akanji could be a pain. The other main option is something like Akanji, Andreas, Kane - Cancelo, Trossard, Greenwood, but that leaves quite a lot of money itb

Ødegaard has a better xGi than Martinelli. Sure it’s controversial particularly if it loses money but is there an argument to swap?

Think Mitrovic will continue to be good value for money while Darwin gets rotated and there are a few options for mids - Rodrigo and Trossard for instance

I’m sure everyone will have completely different teams after the WC - Diaz, Son, Reece James for instance? but good to tinker

        1. The Mentaculus
          • 4 Years

Will have a look but my instinct tells me Martinelli will be the higher scorer longer term. Bearing in mind what you say about rotation & Mitrovic, plus the threat of post- WC fitness issues, what do you reckon to this strong squad / benching headache draft:

          Kepa Ward
          Cancelo Trippier White Dalot Patterson
          KDB Maddison Trossard Martinelli Almiron
          Haaland Darwin Mitrovic

Can't decide if I like or not tbh

I agree about Martinelli, he’s such a great talent that, despite the stats, I think he’ll be the better of the two at the end of the season.

I think I like the front three and with Darwin up front, probably KDB rather Salah is probably right (although Salah is still near top for chances). I’m interested in going Cancelo-less with Castagne and Perisic looking good and James might be back, but probably will end up with him for his reliable returns.

Chelsea will need to tighten up to pick Kepa although keepers seem a bit of a lottery.

Good luck with whatever you go with.

So many cheap midfield options; really like Mitoma, Bailey playing well and Andreas is still a steal. Also he may lose his place to Sinisterra but if he keeps scoring he’ll be difficult to drop

Bailey is firmly in my mind now too, Danjuma did very well under Emery so it's no surprise to see him doing well here

He looks great, doesn't he? There's only 2 things I'm slightly wary of:
          - He's playing in Sinisterra's spot while injured & we haven't seen him picked ahead of Sini yet
          - He was chided by Marsch the other week for not knowing what he'd said in his press conference.
So I think there might be a slight doubt about his (off-pitch, non-footballing) maturity, in Marsch's eyes at least. And he's probably not nailed enough to supplant Andreas in the 4.5 1st sub role. I'd be tempted to just overlook his price and pick him as a starter rather than a bench option if Sinisterra is still recovering on the other side of the WC though

Cheers mate, guess I'll just stick to Pereira for budget option now and see how things look near Christmas. No harm in waiting a few weeks either if Sinisterra is fit given they play City first up

Marsch know's he's immature. He was 21 the day after he scored the winner v Liverpool, planned to go home to Holland to celebrate his birthday. Marsch put a stop to that, told him he needs to be more responsible for the team. But also showed him that he has faith in him. Hopefully he doesn't overcelebrate the next few weeks ad gets even better. He's small and light but game and quick with great feet in front of goal.

Haaland's not been behaving like a perma-captain since the Manchester United game which is excellent news. Yesterday, all 14 players in my mini league put the armband on him despite the rumoured possibility that he would not start! That's totally pish so lets hope he keeps up the 5.4ppg he's been accumulating since GW10 to make the game more interesting.

    Tinkering already
    a) Saka and James
    b) Or Martinelli and Trent
…for the second half of the season.

No looking now! Heard this on Talksport this morning:

Arsenal will be Number 1 for Christmas after 6 home and 8 away games.

Besides conceding 3 goals away to Man Utd, how many more goals did they concede in their remaining 7 way games?

That’s a theme of Arteta’s Arsenal side. Vast majority of cleansheets coming away from home.

Ramsdale gets a fair bit of criticism but has done great since he displaced Leno. Good shotstopper but also very vocal in getting the defence organised.

The best its going to get I feel. What do you think, the lack of Liverpool is the only concern?
    Pope
    Trippier, Gabriel, white
    KDB, Zaha, Almiron, trossard
    Kane, haaland, toney

I wouldnt bother trying to play the fixtures game with players like Zaha and Rodrigo as you will likely just fall between the gaps.

The trouble with the 'lesser' teams is that they are so inconsistent. They can look great one week but then not turn up for the next 2 weeks. This makes players like Zaha, Trossard etc so frustrating to own as you just dont know what you are going to get from them from one week to the next because of the teams they play for.

You also can never predict when they will get their points as they will often score in the games you dont expect them to and blank in the easier fixtures. Seen this happen many times.

I think with these players you have to make the decision to either have them in your team and just leave them in all season and take the highs and lows or just not have them at all.

Is there any point in making transfers between tomorrow and the end of the world cup?

      Why not?

Cucu, Zaha and Jesus were winding up in ages.

Got rid of them last night and I feel relieved.

Allegedly transfers made could count to total transfers which count if you're tied on points. Saw someone post that here, not sure if it's true. All Wildcard transfers count.

I won’t win fpl so this doesn’t matter to me tbh. Anywhere in the top 100k is ok.

Every wildcard I start madly, forgetting about losing price and moving out players and and up getting a few back after inflation !

I did Cancelo > Robbo last night to catch the price rise but the transfer hasn’t registered- is that an FPL restriction?
