Our latest Members article series, reviving an old Scout strand called Tales of the Expected, explores the expected goals (xG) data from the last six matches, assessing each side from an attacking and defensive perspective.

In addition, we’ll also check out the form players on show, asking if their recent output is sustainable.

Having last looked at these tables after Gameweek 23, it’s time to revisit them again, armed with the latest stats from our Members Area.

Only Premium Members are able to read these pieces, so sign up today to get full access not just to the editorial content but all of the other benefits, from hundreds of Opta stats to a transfer planner.

XG: LAST SIX MATCHES

Brighton and Hove Albion have claimed victory in just one of their last four Premier League matches, yet their attacking process remains sound.

In that period (Gameweek 21-24), they have created 9.36 xG but only found the net four times, with Alexis Mac Allister (£5.4m) particularly wasteful in front of goal.

However, the fact they are racking up in excess of 2 xG so often is hugely encouraging for those eyeing up their attacking assets.

Albion ‘double’ in Gameweek 27, along with Brentford, Crystal Palace and Southampton.

Attacking investment in the latter two probably isn’t necessary, depending on how much weight you put in these tables of course, but what about Brentford?

After their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in Gameweek 24, Thomas Frank’s troops have gone 11 league games without defeat. No team in the division has lost fewer home games than Brentford in 2022/23, with Arsenal still the only visiting side to have triumphed at the Gtech Community Stadium.

That suggests now is the time to invest in Ivan Toney (£7.6m), with a home match against Fulham preceding Double Gameweek 27, which involves away trips to Everton and Southampton.

Only West Ham United have underperformed their xG more emphatically across the season than Everton. Sean Dyche has made them more solid at the back but they still lack firepower: they had 15 shots/1.71 xG against Aston Villa without scoring.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United (three goals from 9.03 xG) and Chelsea (two goals from 7.69 xG) remain the two biggest xG underachievers in the last six matches and both need to become much more clinical in front of goal.

Finally, we’re not used to seeing Fulham quite this low down, but since the World Cup there has been a shift in approach. Marco Silva stated that he wanted the Cottagers to tighten up, which is understandable given how open they were earlier in the campaign. However, their improved performances at the back have impacted their attacking play in a big way.

Just a wee bit confused as to why people are WC 26? Are they FH 28 as well? If not what are the advantages of WC26..will you not have same sort of problems for 28 that you have at the minute? Like you arnt going to want to WC a team without united city etc. Or am I completely wrong?

Must be to do with having no Brentford or Brighton due to their blank this week
      Now loading up on them
I'm confident I can bring who I want in with FTs and a couple of hits so won't need to WC

      @BigManBakar
Tonight's results mean that Brentford have two doubles coming up + a guaranteed fixture in GW28.

WC26 is even more appealing as it allows you to load up on them for this run, without having to use a chip in GW28 while still being in a position to perhaps BB in GW29.

      1. Baps Hunter
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Sounds like risky business. No certainty to be able to play BB 29 after itb and then they become a burden. Offloading them and navigating rest of the season and to BB later can be difficult.

Could you not just load up on BRE and BRI in GW 27, when they actually have their doubles?

I am hoping to avoid WC26 and hoping have 11 for BGW28 to avoid FH

WC looks appealing in 26 as can get a good team for the dgws and also cover 28 without using the FH. Can save FH for 32 now and use transfers between 29 and 34 to set up for the later dgws. I’d only have haaland from city and keep rashford and shaw. Happy to play 9 or 10 in 28 if needed and keep some Brighton/utd/haaland

      1. Feed tha Sheep
        • 13 Years
        2 years, 9 months ago

But can you not get to that with FTs and the odd hit? Or alternatively FH 28 and then WC after to set up for the later doubles?

Of course, but I don’t want to muddle by with a few hits over next few gws though. I feel I can maximise next two dgws with a wc now, which also cover 28 and then I have time after 29 to plan for 34 and 37 with the safety of the FH in 32 so hopefully match those later wcs

"Forest will head to west London at the end of April and it remains to be seen whether he will feature."

I'd advise you to spend two mins reading/thinking.

It's a Nottingham website. Just posting something topical and relating it to when he would have payed the team. They know nothing about when the ban will begin, just mentioning that they don't know if he'll still be around by the time Brentford play Forest.

My team is well set for GW26 and GW27 (with a -4 involved) but likely only have 6 players for GW28 (including Ward and Bueno) pre hits. Then I'll have a good GW29 non bench boost team for -4. Which sounds best?

    A. FH in BGW28

    B. WC either GW26,27 or 28 and set up for a BB GW29, saving the free hit

    C. Save all chips and take a -8 or -12 to get 8 or 9 players out in GW28 and possibly FH29 to get optimal team

So now people will sell Nketiah before he plays Bournemouth and Fulham?
Or Kane when he has Wolves and Forest?

Or they can hold and wait a week in case the Toney ban is imminent?

Still hoping for Kane to play Soton in GW28 😉

Nketiah is out of the team as soon as Jesus is back, which is soon. I don’t want to own when that will happen.

I'm selling this week regardless of these results. He was already benched at the weekend and Arteta heavily praised Trossard playing as a false 9, and Jesus is on his way back. Chances are he won't be playing very much against those teams

Southampton Spurs is a pretty much guaranteed blank (unless Grimsby beat Soton and Sheffield United beat Spurs)
