The best UCL Fantasy players for Matchday 10

The 2022/23 UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarter-finals resume this week – which means it’s also time for the competition’s official Fantasy game to return.

With prizes dished out every Matchday, UCL Fantasy also offers an incentive for managers to belatedly enter a team even if you are yet to sign up.

Here, our in-house expert FPL Reactions takes a look at Matchday 10 and its most appealing assets.

GOALKEEPERS

Napoli play in the first of two Tuesday night matches. The Italian side has kept six clean sheets in their last ten games. Another factor helping Alex Meret (€5.0m) is being at home.

Inter take part in the second night of Matchday 10. If Meret fails to return, managers can instead rotate Andre Onana (€5.0m) in. His team has shown they can be a strong defensive unit this campaign, keeping three successive clean sheets in the latter stages of this competition.

DEFENDERS

The best UCL Fantasy players for the round of 16 7

Benfica may have a tough game against Inter but Alejandro Grimaldo (€5.4m) has proven he can return even without a clean sheet. The flying full-back has notched up two goals and three assists in this Champions League campaign.

Inter’s back-three system allows their wing-backs into some of the most advanced positions on the pitch. Therefore, the attacking capabilities of Denzel Dumfries (€5.3m) could be a brilliant addition this week. Six clean sheets have arrived in Manchester City’s last ten matches in all competitions. Their centre-back Ruben Dias (€5.6m) was a huge goal threat from set pieces in the reverse fixture with Bayern Munich.

Chelsea’s bluntness in front of goal is a serious concern for them but a big boost for Real Madrid’s assets. One of the most reliable ways into their back line is Dani Carvajal (€5.4m). Then, completing the defence is Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo (€5.3m) – the Italian already has four double-digit hauls.

MIDFIELDERS

FPL friendlies round-up: De Bruyne and Haaland on target 1

Man City are averaging more goals than any other side in Europe over their last ten, where Kevin De Bruyne (€10.5m) continues to dazzle with his creativity. The Belgian has banked a whopping 15 domestic assists. Opponents Bayern have shown huge defensive inconsistencies for most of their season and free-scoring City could take advantage, like the reverse fixture.

That’s why Jack Grealish (€7.9m) should also be considered. Not only has he become a main-stay in their offensive line but he has two goals and three assists from his last four outings.

Elsewhere, one who could be considered absolutely essential is Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior (€10.2m). The Brazilian has been one of the game’s most consistent assets this season, collecting a return in all but one of his nine UCL matches.

Benfica’s Joao Mario (€6.6m) is a UCL Fantasy favourite of this campaign. His budget-friendly price allows for pricier assets, yet the winger has also banked 17 goals and six assists domestically. By taking penalties, he has an additional route to points.

One half of Napoli’s deadly duo is Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (€5.9m). The Georgian international is having his breakout season by accumulating 22 Serie A goal contributions, with huge potential for this week.

FORWARDS

The best UCL Fantasy players for Matchday 10

Although recently injured, Napoli’s main man and focal point has returned to full fitness, the brilliant Victor Osimhen (€8.1m) with 21 goals in 24 league matches this season.

Chelsea have been very poor since former manager Frank Lampard’s return. One player who will almost certainly take advantage is Frenchman Karim Benzema (€10.8m). In all competitions, his last ten matches have produced eight goals and one assist, whilst also being penalty taker.

Finally, one player we cannot exclude is the relentless Erling Haaaland (€11.1m). Not only does he lead one of the deadliest attacks in world football but he has also stormed his first Premier League season by netting a monstrous 32 goals.

Are any Fulham mids worth a FH punt?

What do you think of the idea that a team (Leeds) that has taken a few hammerings focuses on tightening up?

I think more hammerings are coming tbh. We look absolutely dreadful at the moment. The pressing intensity under Bielsa/Marsch has been dialled down. And while many pointed to that as being to blame for our defensive fragility, I think the opposite - our main strength was having energetic runners all over the pitch & we simply aren't suited to trying to soak up pressure & play on the counter. Wober & Adams return might help a little, but as long as they're out I think Leeds should really be the no1 defence to target. I have Willian in at the moment, might even try to squeeze Wilson in too - any wingers are likely to enjoy going up against Kristensen/Ayling/Firpo.

I've taken a punt on Harry Wilson. He's a player I really like, his goal involvements per 90 are always pretty high and he looked very lively vs Everton on saturday. After playing 90 minutes I'm sure he'll start again

    A) Chilwell+Rash+Grealish > TAA+Gakpo+Eze (-4)
    B) Just FH

    -
    Perraud - Tripp - Zynchenko
    Saka - Odegaard
    Watkins - Kane

    Kepa - Ward - Chilwell - Estupinan - Rash* - Mitoma - Grealish - Haaland

Personally I'd FH. Grealish and Rash have doubles coming up, you'll want them in two weeks time.

Is Zink fit even for the game? Or are you suggesting you'd save FH for GW34?

    Salah, Son, Martineli, Saka
    Jesus, Jota, Watkins

If going palace I'd go Anderson over Guehi. He's got more threat in the air.

Double palace defense? Could work out but Southampton were unlucky not to score against Palace. Plenty of interesting options in Moreno with a lot of attacking threat as well.

Son is a differential but in a dog awful Spurs team away at Newcastle. I see a few people with him (of course everyone to their own) but think you have better options in Eze, Ramsey Bowen etc.

      Just my opinion though.

          I know the feeling.

Son was ever present in my team the last two seasons. Had him for his four goals Vs Southampton two seasons back.

Always one of my favourite players to own. Hopefully when he gets dropped to £8.5 million I can get him back next season lol

    Hey my sweet little carrots/parsnips.
Me is on free hit and be having Alisson. But after last night's performance, I have to get a bit of Jota. I'd lose Kane for him.

I really like the look of Sa.

Leicester have been very poor going forward and Sa makes a lot of saves.

I know Leicester got a new manager bounce but the whole squad is dire and so low on confidence.

      Martinez also a good option.

      Johnston as well.

It's the lack of spaces upfront that puts me off Jota, already got Jesus in there, can't drop Watkins, then last spot could be Toney, Isak, Jota, Darwin and others. Think that spot might come down to budget available once all other spots filled.

    6. NobodyF*cksWithTheJesus

The way nottingham play is totally different to what leeds played yesterday specially when they are down.. Nottingham don't attack or open up when they are down by 1-0 or 2-0 don't know why tbh.. Hope they get relegated.

Currently prefer jota/robbo over gakpo but with all three attackers available on the bench diaz/darwin/firmino and lack of defenders on FH i'm leaning towards robbo a little bit more , knowing that he is playing more defensively with taa new role + having to handle nottingham most dangerous player b.johnson.

      1. Coys96
        • 6 Years

Thinking this too. Forest look blunt in attack and with few teams looking like they have near-certain clean sheet chances, I'm willing to double on L'pool defenders and hope for a Robbo attacking return too

If you don't have a FH, Kane is going to blow your budget for DGW34, wouldn't be buying now. Think Jota is great for FH32 but will lose more & more mins to Diaz as the latter builds up fitness. Isak should do well v Spurs, has some nice fixtures & a DGW but I'm not sure if he's really a priority right now especially with the Wilson rotation threat. I'm playing both Trippier & Moreno on FH - could you start both instead of buying a forward & just save the FT?

If I get jota as well as taa salah my 3
I currently have tripp an Moreno
Other 2 strikers are Watkins and Jesus

Had Kane for ages, feel like taking more of a punt on fh, isak could start, or Wilson

Tripps highly owned, new only 1 cs in ten I think, not many other def I would still play over him this week
Jota has better fixture over Kane

Maxed out on Villa already. You want to make a case for Buendia over Ramsey? (I won't bookmark / blame you if he blanks, not my style).
Brentford do concede most chances through the middle & I think Ramsey's late runs into the box could be quite effective there.

    Trippier, Gabriel, Burn, Mee
    Saka, Ødegaard
    Kane, Watkins

Steele / Haaland, Grealish, Mitoma, *Rashford*

    Chilwell to Moreno, probably.

Reasons to FH: No Salah, no Martinelli, 10 players, some fixtures not ideal, was planning to TC Haaland in GW34.
Reasons not to FH: 10 players without a hit, saving it. (If I don't, when to use TC?)

If you FH34, you could TC Haaland in 37 (CHE bha), but I really prefer the fixtures in 34 (WHU could be huge), as well as the certainty that the title race is still in the balance. Team this week looks ok but no Liverpool could hurt.

I guess the other thing to think about is, if you FH this week, you only have 2 FTs left to get your team in shape for 34 - do you think you can get to the team you want that way? Presumably the 2 FTs would go on Kane + Øde - Salah & someone, so you would be facing hits for Trent or City mids

What's your FH team @Mentalculus? Sounds like we have similar players.

    Sa
    TAA, White, Moreno
    Martinelli, Eze, Ramsey, Salah
    Watkins, Jota, Jesus
    Johnston Bowen Anderson Dawson

Could move White and then do Eze to third arsenal attack but White is just as attacking as Saka of late.

Mostly the same. On Johnstone but I do like Sa as well (great haul potential). Currenly have Saka over Eze & Trippier over White, but if Saliba is fit (or I just fancy another punt in place of Saka), then I might switch to White & have both Willian & Ramsey alongside Salah & Martinelli.

That's a strong team and I like the logic behind it. I looked at Willian but only because James isn't eligible to play this weekend. Leeds are so poor but Fulham are equally poor going forward as well until the Everton game just passed

Selling Kepa a week too early was annoying, as was the Salah haul. My 5th defender (Mings) outscored my other 4 defenders and 2 keepers combined, but luckily I have Zinch and Shaw so he was autosubbed on 🙂

Overall 61 points, rank down from 866 to 1142, and hoping to avoid a massive slippage this week by saving FH until GW34.

      You know what? Pretty good.

Rough: each of my defenders got 1 point and I benched a 10 point Moreno instead of them. I just had Saka on Sunday and got quite a rank drop after his missed pen.

Smooth: Have Watkins, you know who I captained and had Salah pull one out of the bag to make up for Sunday.

      74 points and another green.

I had to play two Brighton and two Brentford players. My week was looking very bleak.

Ran a marathon on Sunday (with a 20 min PB!) and came home to the Salah and TAA surprise to save my GW.

Better than 30, cut my losses and went Kane to Haaland with my FT. That payed off massively. Stones off before 60 for the second game running but luckily he scored (still could have been huge). Ode and Salah came good late in the GW to save me from a third successive red arrow

    6. Pegboy
      • 13 Years

Well overall with 70pts and up to 53k

Rough: Bruno continuing to blank was only notable

Smooth: Saka continuing to blank; deciding not to take a hit for Rashford and just playing March instead; Ben White delivering again; being set up for a non-FH 32

      73 PTS. 380k > 311k rank.

Rough: Saka pen miss. Maddison and Mahrez, don't know what it is with this pair of plonkers, haul ad nauseam when I don't own them, and never when I do, even if they are in the team for weeks!

Smooth: Heroes Moreno, Watkins and Salah. Cap Haaland. Arsenal remain top despite the poor result.
FH, WC then BB hopefully will provide a late surge. 😆

Early on looked very bad - didn't have Watkins or Grealish was heading for a big rank drop. Isak and Kane did nothing fpl wise. My Olise pick did nothing but watch Eze's goals.
Then my two Arsenal did well that many did not have White and Odegaard.
And I finally finished in a season OR high - just, thanks to Salah.

All I wanted from my GW31 team was to avoid a red, or 'too big a red'.

A nice solid error free 77 point week for me, 519k GW rank.

Watkins in for Mitrovic, Haaland(c) and Salah my top scorers. Mings and Martinelli chipping in too.

Up 70k to 199k OR still with wildcard to play.

    16. DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy
      • 10 Years
      1 year, 20 days ago

Rough: How did Bruno blank, March beating Mitoma again, Salah and TAA going off big in last game of week.
Smooth: DDG has done over the Shaw owners in my ML, clung onto a green arrow, inside 30k and top 30 of HOF Top 1k league.

    17. Arteta
      • 8 Years

Rough: So, I was in the mountains with friends and didn't have internet connection on Saturday morning around the deadline. I've done my transfers before our trip started and unintentionally left the captaincy on Saka. Rashford (last week's VC) became Salah, who I specifically bought to captain him before everyone else does in GW32. He really impressed me against Arsenal and Leeds were never gonna stop him. I simply forgot to double-check and I know it's my mistake. I also couldn't watch the game and therefore didn't know until Sunday evening that Saka has missed a penalty and ended up with a big fat zero.
      .
Smooth: We had a great time and it was one of the best weekends of this year so far. 😀
      Rashford/Mee ➡ Salah/Alexander-Arnold wasn't too shabby either.

Use those and play it into dgw34.

Sacrifice Haaland if you want Salah but you're opening up Kane to Erling back in.
