Here, former FPL champion Simon March reveals his potential Wildcard team for Gameweek 33.

FPL team reveal: Why I've picked Vardy over Haaland and Kane

I hit the Wildcard button fairly quickly after the game updated after Gameweek 32. This had been the plan for some time and something I’d been itching to do because, even though I did just get to play my Free Hit, I’ve otherwise had spend the last few Gameweeks waiting ‘patiently’ as others seemed to benefit greatly from their earlier (and perhaps better-timed) Wildcards.

Few of you will be surprised to learn that the primary reason for my Gameweek 33 Wildcard is so I can Bench Boost in Double Gameweek 34, thus maximising the fixtures from my entire 15-man squad.

Of course, after I pressed the button, the news then broke that the remaining fixtures had been assigned, primarily to Gameweek 37 and, now, I have a dilemma as to whether a Gameweek 33 Bench Boost is still my best option. I could, theoretically, have delayed my Wildcard another week in light of this information.

However, at least now I have options and, as I see it, the ‘FPL math’ doesn’t really change; load up on players from Manchester City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United in particular since they have doubles in both Gameweeks 34 and 37 (or 34, 36 and 37 in Brighton’s case), throw in plenty of Liverpool, who also double in Gameweek 34, and then keep an open mind regarding Newcastle United, given their own double against Leeds and Brighton in Gameweek 36.

Unfortunately, I’m going to be (most likely) WiFi-less somewhere over the Indian Ocean when the Gameweek 33 deadline actually passes so I’m really going to have to cross my fingers and hope for the best when it comes to any late team news.

Gameweek 33 Wildcard: Goalkeepers

%d9%81%d8%b1%d9%8a%d9%82-%d8%a7%d9%84%d9%88%d8%a7%d9%8a%d9%84%d8%af-%d9%83%d8%a7%d8%b1%d8%af-1-%d8%ad%d8%b1%d8%a7%d8%b3%d8%a9-%d8%a7%d9%84%d9%85%d8%b1%d9%85%d9%89

I never really saw myself as the type of person who would pick Man City’s Ederson (£5.4m). I’m fundamentally opposed to owning premium goalkeepers on principle and he’s also just such a boring choice. However, he remains City’s most reliable defensive starter and, historically, Pep Guardiola’s side have tightened up defensively during title run-ins, so at least I can hope for a run of clean sheets, if not many save or bonus points.

Brighton’s Jason Steele (£3.9m) just looks like too good value to ignore with three doubles on the horizon, though I do have concerns as to how reliable a starter he will be. At the moment, it’s a risk worth taking, however.

Gameweek 33 Wildcard: Defenders

FPL review: Goals for Martinelli, Salah, Saka + Odegaard 1

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold (£7.5m), Man Utd’s Luke Shaw (£5.1m) and Man City’s John Stones (£5.5m) make up the core of my doubling defenders, with the latter particularly interesting given his occasional out-of-position role in City’s midfield of late. All three offer attacking threat and, I hope, some clean sheet potential.

Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier (£6.2m) and Sven Botman (£4.5m) make up the rest of the defence. While neither double in 34 they do, as mentioned, have two fixtures in Gameweek 36. There’s a temptation to perhaps switch Botman for a Double Gameweek 34 defender such as West Ham United’s Kurt Zouma (£4.4m) or Brighton’s Pervis Estupinan (£4.8m), though I currently have other plans for my Brighton allocation.

Gameweek 33 Wildcard: Midfielders

I have gone with Jota and Rashford because it's given me funds to invest elsewhere with a TAA and Robbo double up in defense. Whereas Isak doesn't have a double in 34 so I'll bring him in in 36 if he's still in form

You're not going all out for DGW 34. Just one City player and no United might hurt you. Don't overthink about whom to bench between Saka and Estupinan. Both have high chances of returning but if I were you I'd start Estupinan.

I get your point, but I think I'm still set up fine for DGW34, Ederson is coming in and I may take a hit to bring in another player, Rashford most likely. That puts me on 7 or 8 doublers.

But I think Man U and City players are a trap for the most part, Man U are not looking convincing lately and they have two difficult games in Villa and Brighton so I'm not keen on running any of their defence, and apart from Bruno F and Rashford there aren't any other players I'm interested in. As for City, the only players not subject to Pep roulette are Ederson and Haaland. I know Grealish is looking good but with the density of games I'm not convinced.

Ya that's all true. Everyone has their own method. Jota is also another option. I never like putting so many funds in Ederson but it's upto you. Your defense doesn't have enough doublers. Mid looks fine.
I agree United have tough fixtures so it could backfire. Same with Pep and his roulette. Godspeed

HELP, really want to get this one right . I'm on a 33 WC before a 34 BB and this will make or break my ML. Template is compelling, but down to one final decision:

    DDG Johnstone
    TAA x Shaw Akanji Estupian
    Salah Rashford Grealish Mitoma March
    Haaland Jota x

    a. Trippier/Solanke. Don't need Solanke except for week 34 when he plays Leeds (great start). Get to keep Trips and all his value. Plan to sell Jota for Isak before his double week.

    b. Botman/Isak. Certainly looks better in a vacuum, particularly with Trips slowing down. Isak will start over March (?) in 33 and Solanke in 34. But lose Trips assist/bonus potential and ML foe has him (of course). Benching headache with 8 great starts up front.

    help appreciated.

I think B is slightly preferable for the BB. Isak probably the most explosive of the 4 right now

Bro. If you are using BB in 34 then Johnstone, Trippier, Solanke, Botman and Isak are all bad choices. You ideally want to maximize the double gw with the WC and having someone from Fulham like Pereira and Bowen/Antonio from West Ham could be good. You can Newcastle players in 33 and then use a FT to bring a player for double gw 34.

thanks for the feedback. Have to find the right balance of chasing doubles and setting up the team for the run-in. Pereira's double of City/Pool isn't very enticing to replace any of the template MF above (same for Bowen, who I do like btw).

Particularly as West Ham/Fulham don't have another Double, while the other teams do...means I am fine with 12 doublers

I am also in the same situation as yours but I am in more desperate situation as i have more than 100 points to make up.

I am planning to ignore Newcastle players for now hoping they don’t do anything in two gws and get coufal/cresswell martial/antonio for their doubles and save ft and use 2ft to get them back on 35 for their double.

WC feels quite template (no BB),

    Ederson
    TAA, Estu, Trip
    Salah, Bruno, Grealish, Rash, Mitoma
    Haaland, Jota
    (Iveron, Schar, Toti, Greenwood)

    A) Bruno (if fit) + 2 bench fodder
    B) Isak, second Brighton mid (benching headache)

It's not really a headache to pick your preferred Brighton midfielder and have a strong sub to cover the other 7.

Feeling a bit weird to remove a DGW for Salah next GW and may go a bit differential...

    GW 33:
    Zinchenko -> Robertson
    Kane -> Jota

    GW 34:
    Henry -> Stones/Ake/Akanji

    DGW 34 Team (only doublers)
    DDG*
    Robertson* - TAA* - Stones*
    Rashford* - Fernandes* - March* - MacAllister* - Mitoma*
    Jota* - Haaland*

    Raya - Trippier - Botman - Watkins

    Yay or Nay?

OR 62k but chasing ML by 40 points.

    Rest of Team

    Kepa Leno

    TAA Mee Shaw Trippier Estupinian

    Saka Salah Mitoma Olise Jensen

    Haaland Watkins xxxxxxxx

Isak but I have a feeling he may get rested this gw. It would make sense with games coming thick and fast. He's not got the best injury record and Howe will know that

Is 50% for Ake back quite optimistic? Sounds like he could be wiped out for 33 and the doubles if its hamstring

wk 33 Kane and Chilwell - Jota and Botman (have trippier) -4
wk 34 Saka and Odegaard - Salah and Grealish/Mahrez

    Sound like a plan?
Would prefer to play Chilwell and bring in Salah this week but he's too expensive unless i take a -8 this week. WH have finally hit form so hopefully i'll be OK. Grealish may be out the team by next week knowing Pep so want to give myself as much time as possible to make that switch.

Chilwell less effective than Kane. So B.
