Can't really go without Salah with his past history of GW1 hauls.

I've got no interest in Trent at 8m, he's a wait and see

8m for a player who has broken the 200 point mark twice is not too shabby.

I initially wanted all 3, but think I'm happier spreading TAA funds. I've become very unsure of how Liverpool are going to setup with their new additions (and likely other additions if Henderson and/or Fabinho go) and what roles pretty much everyone bar the CBs and maybe Salah will have

If no one is signed Wissa and Mbeumo will start the vast majority of games. Schade will be rotated with a third centre back depending on the opposition. Basically Schade, Wissa and Mbeumo all start in games where Thomas Frank fancies their chances.

Do you mean Haaland and two 4.5's ? I'd say yes unless a starting 4.5m appears, if not when Haaland gets rotated you will be down to 10 men. Adebayo at 5.0m is likely to start.

I've seen a few people (including some that write here) going with a narrative or idea that Mitoma was "found out" at the end of last season, which at face value feels like it's pretty much solely based on his lack of returns, but I just want to dig into it a bit. From what I watched, he still created and had chances but he looked like he was a bit low on confidence, I'd say lacking in a bit of luck and he definitely looked like he was tired. It's easy to forget he only really got into the Brighton squad about a third into the season. Before GW14 he only had brief appearances, accruing about the equivalent of 1.5 full matches. From GW14 onwards, he played 70-90 minutes 24 times (90 mins on 16 occasions).

From GW30 onwards Mitoma only had one return, a single assist. For clarity, MacAllister, Enciso, Welbeck, Ferguson, March, Undav and Estupiñan all had more returns in that time. Here's how Mitoma placed in that period against those other players for some attacking stats:

    xG: 1st (4.7)
    xA: 1st (2.1)
Shots: 1st (26, tied with MacAllister)
    Shot-creating actions: 1st (40)

The player that came closest to him for xGI was Welbeck, and he was still far away from Mitoma's (4.8 v 6.8). Mitoma's stats also of course don't include chances that didn't end in a shot, or things like the farce at Spurs where he was denied a stonewall penalty and had a goal (that no Spurs player complained about apart from wanting an offside call) dubiously ruled out. So where are people getting this idea that he's been "figured out" by opposition teams from?

    1. Andy_Social
      • 13 Years
      2 years, 5 months ago

For me, he was simply tired. Pre-season will show if he's fresh and ready to dazzle, or if he's been "found out".

The argument is they double up on him as he prefers to go one way despite a PhD in dribbling.

I'm not sure how true that is.

Yeah I've seen a few odd, insubstantial critiques of him here (also "useless dribbling" / can't finish). Not taking any of it seriously tbh. Was very obvious the squad as a whole was struggling with fatigue after the cup SF so I'm not really judging any of them on theose final few weeks, more what came before.

    It's a fair article.

I prefer the draft with Jesus or a switch to Isak alongside Haaland and Salah in midfield. The compromise is no funds for Rashford or Bruno if opting for Saka.

Alongside no Trent or Trippier despite the soft pricing there's still a choice to be made.

However, we're only a Haaland injury away from a free for all on player picks.

What can i do better here?

No spare cash so the flex is around Foden and Jesus really.

      Raya
      Shaw, Saliba, Estupiñán
      Salah, Saka, Eze, Enciso, Foden

          Pinnock comes in.

I can switch to Rashford from Foden.

Then Jesus needs to be replaced by Ferguson (+£0.5m) or Taiwo Awoniyi when the fixtures turn kinder for Forest. He did have a good strike rate last season ... If he can do so again is the million dollar question.

Yeah, but he may stay in the Premier League.

It's likely he does with the asking price or he remains for the final year and if they're paying him and forgoing tens of millions then presumably they play him.

Or it is pointless to hold him there to contact.

The thing is Welbeck and Undav offer very different things to Ferguson. They're all hard workers off the ball but Ferguson is more physical and really good in the box, Welbeck is excellent at linking up with everyone around him and Undav is decent at making direct runs in behind the defence. RDZ spoke at the end of last season about this and how it influences his decisions depending on what he wants/expects from a game.

(February): “Evan Ferguson is available, but I have a doubt between Ferguson and Undav. Deniz played very well (last week). For us, it is very important the quality of play. He knows when he has to play and when he has to attack the space.

He is different to Evan Ferguson. Evan is more of a striker. He knows better how to attack the space and score. But in the quality of play, also Deniz is also very important.”

He also said this after an FA Cup tie where he played both Welbeck and Ferguson together:

“Two strikers together but we can play with two strikers or without a striker. In the future we will play some games without a striker. Two wingers, two No.10s."

He’s still very young and with Brighton in Europe, and with plenty other options to call on he is too much of a risk. We saw towards the end of the season how much Di Zerbi liked to rotate. He will start some games and off the bench in others

He's capable of getting a 15 pointer on the opening day. It doesn't get any better for an opening fixture.

Most of my ML rivals are casuals and will be getting him. I can't take the risk right so early on.

Im really considering a team without Haaland, Salah and Kane. Will probably go with Haaland in the end, but theres so much value and potential in this lineup:
    Ramsdale,
    TTA, Shaw, James,
    Rashford, Saka, Fernandes, Son, Sterling
    Jesus, DCL
Bench: Darwin/Gakpo (depending on pre-season), Areola, Tarkowski, Bell

Uh oh the bench police are out...

I quite liked playing with a strong squad last year too and I think there's scope for a team like this if going for Haaland + premium-lites as Pras calls them. I guess it also allows you to take a very risky punt on Darwin with cover to bench him. Keep an eye on Mings though as I think Villa might play Pau Torres ahead of him.

I'm actually going quite a different route to this initially - Salah, dirt cheap bench, playing only the first 5-6 GWs. But on WC around the time European competitions start kicking, I think I will probably revert to a stronger bench again - although I do still prefer to have one fodder sub on the end & 2 stronger ones.

      1. Count of Monte Hristo
        • 12 Years

The bench police are in full effect and seem highly offended by the suggestion 😆

What I do like about this game and wish it was more prevalent is when we have varying strategies and seeing how they fare against each other. We
complain about the game becoming stale and template yet when you try something against the grain and not optimal in someone’s opinion they would rather attack it because it doesn’t align with their thinking.

Salah is the player I would like to have but with my squad it would mean removing Haaland and inviting the No-Haaland Police on me also and I really don’t need that kind of heat.

3.5 off the bench is the absolute minimum possible spend on the bench. The policies of the bench police do not allow this and I'd suggest an inquiry into your status as "officer", quite frankly.

This is effectively my plan too. There's the IB after GW4 and a few fixture swings around then so really my GW1 team is for the most part with a very small window in mind. I'm realistically hoping to roll FT in GW1 and definitely in GW4, the latter in particular to try to move on some of those swings, but if I can roll earlier FTs as well I can try and get an earlier jump on some moves

The After Transfers row, which shows the totals, doesn't seem to appear until you have built your squad and then made a transfer by changing one of your players.
The Before Transfers probably shows the numbers before you started to build your squad, and should later show the numbers for your previous Gameweek's squad.
I think RMT also used to show the number of players selected so far and their total cost (e.g. 2-5-5-2 and 95.5m), but that seems to have disappeared.

However, if you build your team from scratch, instead of entering your FPL ID and pressing Go, then you will get a line containing the numbers of players selected so far and the totals, instead of the Before Transfers line.

Hey Lallana, I wanted to comment on your team yesterday but I fell asleep. I think, in your Tark/Cash rotation, you would only play Cash twice in 8 GWs, so why not downgrade to Beyer to cover those two GWs (with better fixtures that Cash's iirc) and save 0.5? In fact, I think even Bell has good fixtures in those 2 weeks.

Both, 6.5 mids were incredible last season and lots of good options

I had been keen on trent and haaland, but salah cannot be overlooked! And with his current low-ish ownership is arguably a bit non-template and therefore may be considered a (gasp) differential.

    Salah draft:

    Pickford
    Stones / Shaw / Gabriel / James
    Salah / Rashford / Saka / Foden / Enciso
    Haaland

    Areola / Lamptey / Archer / Mcatee

Weak bench, I accept, but that team has points written all over it!? Two-premium allows wider captaincy options, and although the budget is stretched I've been able to accommodate:

    Haaland and Salah
    Rashford, Saka, Foden
    Stones, Shaw, James

Some middle premiums in there too, and could downgrade Shaw and or James to 4.5s and free up 2mil if that would be better

      Is James not injured again?

If he's not he will be very soon

    A) Estupinina + Salah
    B) Trent + Rashford

B but I'd still want Estupinan;)

Thanks I wonder if Brighton will keep as many clean sheets with midfield potential changes though

Probably B as Salah loses value since Haaland will be everyone's perma-captain

    Hows this looking?

    4.5 (4.0)
    TAA - Saliba - 4.5 (4.0, 4.0)
    Salah - Martinelli - Mount - Almiron (4.5)
    DCL - Jesus - Haaland

Almiron could be any 6.5 mid.

Almiron fell off a bit and has hard fixtures.
Mount could be great but I would bring him in later when you have more info.
DCL a decent one to start off with!
