My guess is both score similar over a season but I don't fancy many clean sheets from either. Estupinan is cheaper and much more likely to get attacking returns.

I suggest considering who is ''the main player'' at those clubs, especially when there is such a strong competition for places. Darwin to me doesn't seem to be that yet, and Nkunku as fun as he sounds, he's an enigma for now.

Rashford's attacking output will be influenced by the new striker, we'll see how, and Bruno pretty much thinks of himself to be the main guy.

Nkunku will be the 'main guy' for Chelsea this season. Has already played in 3 different positions pre-season & has the most minutes of the attacking players. He's likely to be on penalties as well, unknown quantity in the league, but I'd expect him to rack up points from GW3 onwards

They've very rarely been 7.5m though...

            Werner was 9m, Costa 9.5m, Havertz 8.5m (I think), Sterling 9m+?, Lukaku 11m

If Poch can get us back to somewhere close to where we were under Tuchel, 7.5m for the main Chelsea attacker is fantastic value, especially with the fixtures

Which season was that? Lampard's first season? Abraham scored 15 goals as Chelsea's CF & cost peanuts that season - Mount was also excellent value for the first half of the season in that season

With the exception of last season, which was obviously a disaster, I'm not sure I can remember a season with no Chelsea player offering good value

Off the top of my head:

That's because they didn't finish 12th, second half of the season they were a relegation team, they don't just go back to being what they were by signing loads of unproven players AGAIN, Poch has also been poor for a while now so it's a clear wait and see, they don't even start with the best couple of fixtures.

It makes sense to wait for the first 2 weeks and see how we line up, but Poch is still a better manager than most in the league and the early signs are good.

He could make a mockery of 7.5m in the run after GW2

Brentford are without Raya and Toney against Tottenham, and FPL managers are loading up on their alternatives as if these two meant nothing to Brentford's success in the past seasons.

Really don’t understand it - Flekken especially. Brentford conceded the second-most shots on target last season with Raya overperforming by almost every metric. They will ship a load of goals this year.

At least Mbuemo is OOP and on set pieces, but Wissa, Flekken don't have any history to indicate they are good choices.

We'll see what Thomas Frank has in mind for the season, he's their most reliable asset.

How come? Flekken's save% and +Xgc compare very favourably with Raya over the past 2 seasons. The hive mind seems to have decided he is trash based on his first 3 hours of pre-season football in a totally different environment.
Wissa outperformed his XG and XA last season. Toney underperformed on both metrics. A lot of people are sleeping on Wissa imo.

Outperfoming your xG and xA means you either shoot/create little, but you finish what you get; or it signals a good end product.

But if the xG numbers are higher, and a player outperforms that too, (Haaland does this), then you have a proper player/fantasy asset. If numbers are low and you simply outperformed your low numbers, it might just mean you got lucky from those few situations that were dangerous.

Will disagree on Wissa there. 2g 1a in the last 3 games of last season (starting in Toney's absence), he doesn't tend to get the chance to start many in a row but he's a threat when he does. He only played 60+ minutes in consecutive games on 4 occasions last season. Despite having a fairly stop-start time he is still pretty close to Toney for npxGI per 90 (0.46 to 0.56)

Minutes in Toney's absence last season:
            90/74/77/89/89
            4 goals and 1 assist.

You two look way too much into ''what if'' statistics like expected goals and assists, rather than shooting zones, amount of shots, amount of chances created. 'Per 90' metrics for a bench player are always deceiving, and cherry picked 3 games without Toney also represent a less relevant sample.

Wissa has 0.8 shots per game, and 0.3 key passes per game, with an average of 42 minutes played over 38 games. Ferguson for example averages 1.9 shots and 0.6 key passes in 50 minutes.

              • 3 Years

You said that Wissa had no history to indicate he's a good choice, but all you can go on is what he's done when Toney or someone else is out because that's when he has played, and he's done well. 10 returns in that manner for a side like Brentford is impressive (without penalties Toney had 18, and that's with playing basically double of Wissa's minutes).

Comparing him to another forward that isn't pretty much solely used as a replacement when someone is absent isn't exactly pointing to a direct comparison because there's a chance now that Wissa will be playing very regularly. But both his actual returns and underlyings are good

              1. Pariße
                • 9 Years
                1 year, 1 month ago

Wissa managed to actually play every league game last season (I have varying data over 37 or 38 appearances). What I’m implying is you’re looking at the wrong statistical indicators or interpreting them badly.

Ferguson is a legitimate comparison as he gets about the same amount of minutes per game.

                1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
                  • 3 Years
                  1 year, 1 month ago

Appearing in every game isn't much of a factor if you're ignoring that 21 of those 38 apps was for 30 minutes or less. Do you feel that's the same as having regular, full appearances? I would say you're interpreting the data badly too. We'll just agree to disagree here

                  1. Pariße
                    • 9 Years

I wouldn't have been able to finish top 100 in the world if my statistical interpretations were bad 😀

I see your point, but there are statistical tools (like per 90' metrics which almost favour the bench players) that can hollistically interpret his entire game data, instead of a sample of five 90-minute games, which is too little for any conclusions. Example: Capoue 5 goals in 5 games at the start of the season with one shot a game.

To answer your question, this approach is best in comparsion to other players with a similar status like Ferguson, Nketiah, Alvarez, and you can see for yourself:

Wissa: 42 minutes per game, 0.8 shots per game, 1.7 shots per 90'
                    Nketiah: 36 Mpg, 1.4 Spg, 3.4 shots per 90'
                    Ferguson: 50 Mpg, 1.9 Spg, 3.4 shots per 90'
                    Alvarez: 47 Mpg, 1.5 Spg, 2.9 shots per 90'

This is not of course the only metric as he seems lethal from his output, he has played more than those players and has scored more, from less shots per game, this means he is very efficient from the chances he gets but as seen above, he doesn't get many.

U know the whole argument of not getting salah because you won’t cap him, does that even make any sense?
Points are points at the end of the day, even if you didn’t buy Salah you would spend that money on other players who you still aren’t capping. Are people instead actually saying that Salah is not worth 12.5 without the armband?

    1. Mama Murphy's chair

Thinks it's the points per mill stats. If fill up team the premiums have less 'value' if not captaining.

I think most people would prefer Bruno + Saka over Salah + 4.5 for the same price.

Sala will score points obviously but there's better value elsewhere unless you're captaining him & getting double points regularly.

Surely it depends on where you’re making your sacrifices though?

Salah + Wissa + Chilwell could easily outscore Rashford + Jackson + Trent (just random player combos worth 24m)

I guess so, Salah hasn't been in any of my drafts because I think Trent is better value & it's too unbalanced with both

Not the same price. Alot of teams have Rashford and Bruno.

It not a bad idea to have Diaby /Eze and Salah and save 0.5m somewhere.

It which combo gets the most points, not just the player.

Even though I am salahless at the moment.

I am not going Rashford. Those 12 games after the world cup were most of his points. I expect Bruno to be back again.

        But it is tough

        1. Sterling Effort

Saka and Bruno costs 17m, the same as Salah (12.5) and a 4.5m midfielder.

I have Saka, Bruno and 3 7.0-6.5m midfielders, I could switch my big 2 to get Salah but don't think Salah & my 5.5m forward who would then have to play every game, will outscore Saka + Bruno without Salah getting double points

Yes we are just giving different examples.

All I am saying is I prefer Salah + another and save a 0.5 or 1m elsewhere for a 6.5 mid than a Rashford and Bruno double up, which I don't like personally at all. Would definitely prefer Salah drafts there

I still don't see utd scoring anyway near Liverpool . Saka and Bruno is different as a combo they are excellent picks..

I see Bruno outscoring Rash over the season but Rashford in streaks

      It's a fair point.

If say Kane, Haaland and Salah were to score around 250 points each this season...

and you can comfortably afford to pick 2 of them with a decent squad balance, well with the captain chip it's 750 points off the bat and over the season it wouldn't matter which one got double points as captain.

On their own you obviously get 2 bangs for your buck but the pricing easily enables 2 top premium players to be picked.

Exactly - with so many assets underpriced (United, Arsenal, Brighton especially) you can easily build a great team with both Haaland and Salah.

I don't honestly think Haaland will score as many this season. Just a hunch.

He may leave my side when Liverpool and Man City fixtures switch.

Also most of his hauls are at home. So home to Newcastle xan still be as good as Salah home to Bournemouth.

So many choices, but I think if I do WC around gw8 or 9. I never plan a WC. Then I may bring in trent, salah and another

I made a Salah draft yesterday and its not bad. You have to make some sacrifices, but overall its a good team

It's pretty straightforward if you're prepared to sacrifice Rashford.

I just made one to see how it compares, and found it didn't needed as many changes from my non-Salah team as I thought it might. The main difference is moving from 343 to 352 and dropping Darwin to a 4.5. Rashford becomes Bruno.

I wouldn't take that as hard rule, no. It really depends on the specific player combination as mentioned above. Premiums may not offer the same value per £ spent as mid-pricers but that doesn't mean he isnt worth 12.5m

I think the best Salah drafts I've seen are 4-4-2. Something like below

      4.5 4.0
      Gabriel Estupinan Chilwell 4.5 4.0
      Salah Saka Rashford Mitoma 4.5
      Haaland Jesus 4.5

yea, u need to go cheap on a defender and keeper really.

I think I'm going without Salah, but I am tempted to start with him and then adjust later if he doesn't fire. I'm not sure permanently captaining Haaland is as much of a given as made out by content creators.

I'd maybe feel more comfortable if the rest of the Liverpool front three was clearer. Although I don't believe in cover as such, having Darwin in a 3-4-3 has some appeal, if avoiding Salah.

Mine at the min (without much thought) is:

        Onana
        Gabriel - Estu - Chilwell
        Salah - Saka - Bruno - Mitoma
        Haaland - Pedro - Nkunku

With bench fodder - seems like there are multiple playing 4.0 DEFs this season which makes it more feasible. Can easily make sacrifices (Onana, Nkunku) if it looks like it’d struggle for starters.

Yeah, looks decent. Pedro could be the enabler.

What most baffles me about this is the assumption that we won't be capping Salah?? I'm 100% captaining him GW2 at home to Bournemouth

I would like to have a look at a list of all of Pep's line-ups from last season.

Wonder if that works in ChatGPT.

    Better to have
    A)
    3-5-2:
    Rash, Bruno, Saka, Martinelli, Foden
    Nkunku, Haaland (Mubama)

    B)
    3-4-3:
    Rash, Bruno, Saka, Foden (Baptiste)
    Nkunku, Haaland, Watkins

Watkins could also be any other 8m or less.

Have people a plan for when Man United face Arsenal gw5? Many will have up to 6 players from that game.
Is it is a question of slowly fading out the defenders until then/benching them?
Or just just hoping for the best?

Bit of both. I'll at most have 4 players and will likely bench Saliba. One of the benefits of trying to have a bit more of an even spread where possible (but naturally has its downsides too)

Just hope for goals and play them all.

Arsenal could win at Old Trafford and lose to Man United at home, you can't sacrifice transfers for 2 fixtures a season.

You could bench the wrong ones and you've got more chance of picking a winning ticket with 5 or 6 chances.

Or just avoid Manchester United for now or don't worry about EV in one match.

Two dillemas left, maybe voting can help a little.Upgrading Henry to Estu and having 4 good defenders will result in:

    A) Downgrade Stones to Ake
    or
    B) Downgrade Rashford to Bruno

    Morning all,

First post of the new season 😀

Getting excited now it feels in arms reach.

I’ve tried to create a draft where players will be getting mostly 90’s given the new rules adopting the World Cup style of added time.

Here’s the draft, criticism is welcomed!

    Onana

    Stones Gabriel Estupinan

    Saka Rashford Odegaard Fernandes Mitoma

    Haaland Nkunku

    Areola Colwill Kabore Mubama

Like it a lot. I have quite the same team.

      Onana
      Stones Gabriel Estupinan
      Saka Rashford Odegaard Fernandes Diaby
      Haaland Nkunku

      Areola Beyer Baldock Mubama

I want to take a punt at the start of the season on Diaby, I think he can be gold very soon and I have 0.5 ITB to do Estupinan > Chilwell GW3 or 4

Ignoring the fact that Onana costs 5.0, who is the best 5.5m Defender if you could have only one:

    A) Shaw
    B) Estupinan
    C) Stones

Hey, how's this team for the initial 10-12 GWs (Some transfers in bw, maybe Son in GW 3-5 if Spurs start well and Jackson from Chelsea if he starts most games)

    GK-Johnstone/Hennessey
    DEF-Trippier/Stones/Gabriel/Reece James/Beyer
    MID-Rashford/Saka/Foden/Sterling/Eze
    FWD-Haaland/Watkins/Osula

Any suggestions to improve this line-up would be appreciated!
