No Salah is the way to go (I think). Spread the funds. There will always be the FOMO factor though.

Agreed - salah drafts always feel like they are lacking and you can only give the armband to one person so having salah isn't ideal - every week having to decide salah/haaland and if the bet against haaland doesn't work out you will be in sever troubke

I have Salah in my team and don't think I have sacrificed much for a player of his standard.

Looking at the two teams above, I cant see much sacrifice apart from maybe Pedro...

      Same here.
The players I’m missing that I’d otherwise want are Kane and TAA, who both have question marks over their potential (albeit for different reasons)

I will still have all the other main players you will see in other teams.

But I need to have Wissa instead of a 7.5/8 forward and Flekken instead of Onana.

Give me Salah any day for that!

Yeah Watkins - Pedro, Onana - Johnstone & Stones - 4.5 seems quite reasonable to me to enable Jota - Salah.

And you can still get Chilwell, Gabrial, Saka, Martinelli, Bruno, 6.5 mid and Haaland to go along with Salah...

Yeah I looked again at a no Salah draft & for me I just end up bloating my defence & having money left over for luxuries like rotating a 5m/4.5m keeper combo, and I just feel I don't want those funds locked up like that. But I'm glad there's a healthy disagreement on this - the more divisive decison-points the better

Same boat for me. Most I've "sacrificed" is a 5.5 defender and there aren't any I particularly want. May still end up with one if Nkunku is confirmed out

and hopefully most will fall to Darwin (cos that's who I've got).
Salah is a fixed, but I think Darwin will get more time than the rotating Gakpo/Diaz/Jota
      My front 3 guess:
      Salah
      Darwin
      Gakpo/Diaz/Jota

But ... if Gakpo starts through the middle (false 9 a la Firmino) does Darwin start on the left?

Not sure even Klopp knows at the moment

Well, obviously. They have a lot of players with attacking potential, and the situation is basically the same as at Arsenal. The price for safety and a guaranteed starter is £12.5m and £8.5m, but I think that nothing is stopping anyone from doubling up or picking a different combination. Those who want to live a little and make FPL a bit more interesting for themselves will weigh the pros and cons and take some risks.

      B

Mbuemo, Mitoma and Eze all about equal for me.

      Jackson looks like a thriller.

I owned both Wissa and Mbuemo at various times last season and was much happier with Mbuemo's contribution. I think he's a much more key player for Brentford and he's more consistent.

I'm terrified of going without Salah, but every draft I've tried with him in leaves out too many players I want. Skonto's one is as good as it gets but is still helluva risky, imo. There's no wiggle room - no money in the bank and nothing on the bench. If any one of the so-so players disappoints, any alternative you want to bring in will have had a price rise.

You don’t have to be terrified. Lots will go without, it just depends on other picks in your team.

With Salah, you gain the most reliable asset in a top 3 attacking team, but you have to get the B-ranked players right.

Without, you gain 2-3 semi premium players, but will they all perform? Remember the 8.0m ranked players from last season, when a lot of them failed.

    1. Big Mike
      • 3 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

True, but you also have to consider the possibility that Salah might not perform either. Don't forget that he blanked in Liverpool's 9-0 win over Bournemouth last year. Going without Salah (like I am) gives you the opportunity to upgrade the rest of your squad and spread your bets.

Unpredictable. Other than Salah their 'nailed' team will be 'nailed' 60% of the time. I bet he rotates one of them almost every week.

            Salah is 90%
            Jota is 75%
            Gakpo/Dias/Nunez same residual probability.

But yeah i guess it is not a risk worth taking when bruno is available at 0.5 more

  15. Hairy Potter

For me, my Salah draft is 4-4-2. From LR's selection, I'd drop Eze to a 4.5 bench player. Then upgrade João Pedro and one of the 4.0 defenders.

Not ideal, but I think that's why so many aren't set on having Salah. I think I'm avoiding him for GW1, but that might change in the coming week.

    1. Hairy Potter
      • 10 Years

Maybe also downgrade Stones. I missed the 101m cost of LR's squad.

    2. Hairy Potter

Feel with Salah it makes some players with minutes risks less of an option. Maybe drop Eze to 4.5 fodder, Wissa over João Pedro and 4.0 to 4.5 defender of choice.

    3. TheTinman
      • 10 Years

      I had Salah in a 4-5-1 draft.

Had £0.5m itb to buy Vinicious if he looked like a starter.

Could have made that £1m itb by downgrading one of the £4.5m keepers to a £4m

It's quite doable, you just have to miss out on premium defenders and probably Onana too.

I get the feeling the gw1 template is going to be no Salah. So there is potentially v high upside to going against it, but trade off is all the players you will miss out on not just in gw1 but also tricky to bring in eg a chelsea fwd in gw3. Structure headache plus captaincy is Haaland anyway.

My questions re the no Salah draft are how do you quickly get to 343 if you want a chelsea fwd from gw3, and would you start gw1 with Foden instead of Jota if he bangs in the CS. I’m currently still thinking of starting 343. Could go Darwin to Nkunku in gw3 and keep Watkins all the way through.

    1. x.jim.x
      • 11 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

You get to 3-4-3 by downgrading Salah to literally anyone and upgrading your 4.5 to Jackson. Unless you get a bad injury, there's not really a reason to use a transfer for GW2.

      1. TheTinman
        • 10 Years
        2 years, 4 months ago

You've misread the comment. He is talking about changing to 3-4-3 if you don't have Salah.

If you have spread the Salah money over 2 Defenders, Onana and an upgraded MIDS or ATT it becomes harder to do it in 2 moves.

The answer is it means you have to drop one of your heavier MIDS to a £4.5m (so its a straight swap MID for ATT) or you have to use 3 transfers.

Not when you still have all the other big hitters... Brighton defence, Arsenal defence, Chilwell/James, Saka, Bruno, Martinelli, 6.5 Mids, Salah and Haaland.

I believe Wissa is my only real punt and I have no idea who I want as my second forward so will happily take Salah, an alterative GW2 captain and two weeks of data before I decide.

FPL botches player prices and makes it way too easy to pick a team of top 4/6 players.
    LR: Man, I wish I had 101m.

Only 11 players available in week 2, which includes rotation risks (Johnstone, Pedro), perma injury risks (Chilwell, Stones) and two City players back from SuperCup 3 days earlier.... (And that's before you've shaved 1m from it). Throw in a couple of niggles/injuries in week 1 and that's how you end up playing Wildcard in week 2/3.

Bit late in the season to be having No Salah or Get Salah dilemmas!

Lateriser asked for ideas the simple answer is get TAA if you are having Salah doubts/fear.

I don't really understand the fear of not having him the FPL game is a fluid one.
Wildcard around gameweek 5 ish then you can go Salah if you wish. Is it the first time Lateriser has gone without Salah? Is it guilt or something?

ALL players are there to be transferred out as far as I am concerned at various times of the season, depending on form/fixtures.

No player should be put on a pedestal IMO. There will be times during the season that options emerge that are a better option for that gameweek than Salah/Haaland. Does laterriser trust himself to find them?

To me the whole article above is less about Salah/or no Salah
It is does lateriser trust his decision making? The answer seems to be no.

I don't see why getting TAA in if you are scared of Salah is the solution? TAA attacking returns haven't changed massively over the last few seasons, but the defensive ones have. Salah will get plenty of goals not assisted by Trent.

I am going no Liverpool myself don't like the fixtures.
But TAA and Salah seem to link up a lot - in an attacking sense. And Trent has his added freekicks and potential clean sheets etc

So who are you replacing Stones with? I'm between Ruben, or as I currently have, Cash+1m.

Yeah, I don't see any mention except comment here. Not listed on the sites Injuries and Bans.
I'd probably go Chilwell if he was.

He got so injured that he ripped a hole in the space time continuum and travelled back to February?

First draft of the year… Haven't looked at the template on here, how near to it am I? Anything you don’t like or obvious mistakes…

    Onana

    Stones, Gabriel, Estu

    Bruno, Rashford, Saka, Martinelli, Mbuemo

    Haaland, Alvarez

    (Strakosha, Chilwell, Bell, Woodrow)

The only player of any difference here is Alvarez. Everybody has all the other players. Good luck.

"Everybody has all the other players"
That can't possibly be, can it?

      Mbuemo has dropped out.

      Alvarez is very differential.

      Every other player is template.

For the Salah draft - I like Nketiah for the first couple of games with Jesus being out, can reassess after GW2, see how Pedro get's on. I think Gabriel outscores Stones in the early period and then drop Martinelli to Foden. Just a thought.

Stopped reading at 'I like Nketiah'. I reckon he is 3rd or even 4th choice up front now.

      Behind Jesus, Trossard, Martinelli

Agreed! Nketiah would do well to get out of Arsenal now even if its on loan.

No one else is paying him £100k a week, he'd be glad to stay.

Hence the loan, no drop in his money.

I wonder would Areteta loan him out? Nketiah seems like he needs games to progress.
Alternatively Maybe he will just be a domestic cup player at the early stages. But I don't think it will be enough IMO.

I mean, you could go Pedro from the off, doesn't make a difference but I don't see why people think his minutes are locked in.
Arteta loves Nketiah, he played 80 minutes against Monaco and we wouldn't be keeping him if it wasn't for Jesus cover. It's a short term move to have triple Arsenal GW1 - 3. We will see how they line up in the Community Shield obviously. Trossard or Martinelli CAN play up top, but they don't suit Arteta's style of play up there.

I'm looking at the Salah draft in this article thinking "that can't affordable".

    It isn't. It is 101m.

    Fantastic work.

To be fair, the article gives you 3 paragraphs and a screenshot before mentioning that it's over budget. Just a bit daft when he could have actually made an affordable team like loads of people have managed.

Yes, everybody in the comments probably should read and realise the 101m is intentional.

But also, it is a stupid premise for an article. Here's a team I could have if I didn't bother following the rules...

Maybe if laterriser is given an extra virtual million he could split it with the FPL owners at the end of the season?
