A long interval between the FPL game launch and the EPL season start can play tricks with your mind:

    a) I've gone from no Villa a month ago to contemplating a triple-up and I don't know why. Heck two of then don't even have any EPL experience.

    b) Also gone from no Chelsea to contemplating having some. Happens every season, followed by disappointment.

Based last 5 years of Opta data from https://fantasyfootballscount.co.uk/

The top players to target are if you prefer more goals:
    1. Salah
    2. Nketiah
    3. De Bruyne
    4. Jota
    5. Foden

    If you prefer more assists:
    1. De Bruyne
    2. Foden
    3. Salah
    4. Sterling
    5. Martial

Very little Arsenal because they were pretty much only good last year. That could be wrong for this year.

What I mean by that is that the data does not highlight Arsenal players bu they were great last year. Rashford also for the last 2 years. So consider them strongly for this year.

Last 5 years' points don't win you anything this season. I mean you can have all these in your draft if you leave out a certain player not on the list.

No one is saying last year's points roll over to this year. It's a simple indication of past performance, which is a good clue to how they'll perform in the future

Cool, so tell me honestly, how many of KDB, Grealish, Jota, Wilson, Nketiah and Sterling do you have in your draft?

I'm seriously considering Jota. I'm hoping he'll nail a spot, leaving Darwin and Gakpo for the other spot.
Sterling is sadly a big no-go, I expect even more regression from him this season.

                  My current draft:

                  Diaz, Baldock, Zinchenko
                  Saka, Bruno, Salah, Jota, Foden
                  Nketiah, Harland

                  Whiteworth, Bell, Mubama, Beyer

3x4.0 defenders - that's brave. I do have a reserve with-Salah draft that is also ultra-cheap at the back (4x4.5 and 1x4.0 defence). Your 2 benched 4.0s might see gametime if Jota and Nketiah don't get on the pitch.

As I suspected, however, only 2 from your lists make the draft. For some of them, like Sterling, there are clear reasons for them being "history", but you do highlight that Grealish is unjustifiably ghosted around here.

Yeah 3x4.0 def risky. Sterling has been in and out of drafts. Basically wait and see on Chelsea for me. Probably go Nkuku when he returns if they are firing.

But yeah data is just one thing, fixtures also and game time

It's true that top women's teams tend to come off second best when playing male U17s sides, but be fair, some of these games attract huge attendances. Let the market do its thing - we don't have to watch it (it's on in the background while I faff on my PC right now).

Who says that, though? Not me. There's the men's senior game, Women's senior game, Boys U17, U19 world cups accompanied by high-pitched primary school supporters - they're all different and can be enjoyed on their own terms.

Absolutely. Yet the world cup is hyped like Brock Lesnar 2002, yet the product is nowhere near that. Sky/bbc/tnt need to remember that when hiring new pundits at the end of their career

I was hugely impressed by the women's Euros, not watched any of this tournament. There may be a lack of depth, resulting in some thrashings but you'd get that in a genuinely global cricket world cup. There is no use comparing the 'standard' against men's under 17. The ball control and pattern of play is excellent at the top level.

Totally disagree - I've found the whole tournament really entertaining. Having watched loads of women's football live too they atmosphere is incredible - appeals to a totally different audience to the men's game so really you can't compare the two. Lots of kids and families attend and the games itself contains far less theatrics.

i feel my current draft has a lot of template players, but its not exactly template, especially if you can spot the odd one out 😆

    Johnstone
    Chillwell, Gabriel, Estupinian
    Salah, Rashford, Saka, Doucoure
    Haaland, Watkins, Wissa

    Turner, Baldock, Kabore, Nakamba

There's template around here/YouTube creators, and there's a template in the general FPL world. For example, Chilwell is totally template here, but only 10% owned. I've got 3 10% or less active players, plus a couple of low-owned (1%) benchies. I feel comfortable with that - yes, most of my choices are template simply because they're damned good, but like you, I have enough off-template to convince myself that it's MY draft and I'm not moronically following the herd.

      1. lugs
        • 8 Years
        2 years, 4 months ago

the thing is i've been building around Salah & Haaland from the start, then the goal becomes fill the rest of the 11 with as many of the best players or Talismen from the best teams as possible, so a lot of the template are just obvious picks while looking for the best couple of enablers to make it work,

i was going Collwil over Chilwell and i still might go back to that if i want to get Richarlison instead Doucoure for example with some other trimming, but right now i feel this team is the best i can do with the information available atm

Eze is a clear talisman. You'd need to find 1m to convert Douc to him, which you could be by going with Colwill. I've got both Chilwell and Colwill myself, and I wouldn't lose Chilwell, but it would get you one more talisman.

Quite qood , quite nailed because his ability to play inverted fullback but Pep is Pep.

Always find ways to bench his players.

Doesnt matter if u so talented like Alavarez or Mahrez before.

1 from 4 people have Trent.
Will run riot against Bournemouth. Goal from midfield position , lovely cross for Jota's header and bonus points. InsyaAllah, ameen.

So who is the most nailed city defender?

Dias, but all will be heavily rotated in order to compete on 4/5 fronts.

The main argument against having Salah at £12.5m to start the season is the captaincy. You would want him captain in GWs 2,4,6,9,10. But with Haaland having similar fixtures you will realistically only captain him in GW10 so he is just too expensive to justify at this point? I also know he doesn’t get rested often but with the wealth of other attacking options it will happen at some point. And most likely an easier fixture. Although, i guess the lack of CL does somewhat remove this risk.

Yeah, I think that's the consensus view. He'll score a ton of points, but without captaining him, those points won't equate to the points you'll lose by picking inferior players you need to fund him.

I have a balanced no-Salah draft, my main one, but I'm slightly warming to my Salah draft that has all 4.5 defenders.

It is tempting, but as you've mentioned the money spent elsewhere looks a better bet, as you won't be captaining him, he'll score loads of points, you just need to way up the other In the team with and without, I'm going without

Trying to find an argument for any Liverpool attacking player is difficult. I really want to make a case for Darwin but can easily see Coady starting up top to begin after his performances last season. Luis Diaz May end up being the value here if he gets a run.

Using up the budget on eight outfield players rather than a bench to counter rotation risk a bit. Thoughts?

    Leno 4.0
    Stones - Chilwell - Cash - Colwill 4.0
    Rashford - Saka - Almiron - Jota - Buendia
    Haaland - Watkins - Jackson

Thanks! Just wondering if its crap.

Wow. Lots of Pintu picks in there - Almiron, Jota, Buendia and even Jackson (unknown entity in PL).

I think there are too many mid options that you’re overlooking, perhaps to be more differential. It can backfire big time.

I love my non Salah draft. But the problem is - ridiculously - too much free cash. I’ll have at least two decent picks benched each week - and the chances of them coming on seem slim. Presumably with the longer game durations, even the slight risky picks of Darwin, Nketiah, Foden etc - if they don’t start they’ll still come on for at least brief ten minute cameos, meaning one pointers and my bench never gets a look in.

My pre season thoughts and predictions:

With the current state of Liverpool's defence & midfield, I predict they are going to have to compensate for this by going on the attack.

Consequently having Chelsea's assets from the off from this position looks good too.

My current draft has Salah, James, Chilwell and Jackson, I'm expecting to run a 3-4-3 with one of Nketiah or Alvarez (possibly both) with 1.5m-2.5m ITB to take a cheap midfielder up to the 6.5m bracket & the strikers up to the 8m bracket where necessary.

Risky picks aren't so risky when you can move to a multitude of players in 1 move.

I'd absolutely love a City defender, Pep roulette is like PTSD!

Matt Turner & Areola will be my goalkeepers, Turner is a great keeper. 8m spend happy days. Doesn't look like Heaton is going to Luton anymore. If Henderson goes to Forest as well I'll get Onana or possibly Pickford.

Baldock & Kabore happy for them to warm my bench.

You can't overlook Anderson as the bench midfielder given his pre season form. He won't be nailed at all but could get 10 goals over the season even off the bench.

I'm happy to take risks with attackers but not with goalkeepers and defenders. That one precious transfer you have every week shouldn't be spent on a defensive transfer as it limits the upside.

If you are fans of risky short term picks, Garnacho is going to start the season as 1st choice off the left. He's my Salah + money ITB enabler, coupled with the 2 4m GK's.

Have loads more thoughts probably but this post is getting quite long & the Community Shield is gonna shake things up! Alvarez and Nketiah starting

Until Hojland is ready, he might get starts if Rashford plays up top. If Sancho gets the nod, Rash moves left and Garnacho comes off the bench.

Sancho has been the striker relief in pre season. He did come on for Garnacho yesterday but that was because Garnacho had been involved in a strong challenge which made him wince a bit.

He will start against Wolves and then he has the talent to get a lot of mins. Hojlund is either injured or is fake injured and going to be eased in without stupid media yapping off a load of crap. I think he is good until week 3 or until the international break.
