I really don't under stand the point in the bot teams. Like the one that triple captained Rodri. What is the point of them?

There's a real team from Albania that was briefly top yesterday.

It's wrong to characterise as a bot, just because they play the game beyond the conventional thinking on here.

I think it should be broadly welcomed, it's refreshing.

Fantasy Premier League: Gambling industry targets players - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66477724

Important that this has a wide readership, so posting on a new page for awareness, something FFS might wish to consider doing for the remainder of today in promotion of MH matters?

You can't tell people how to run their business, you know nothing about it financially. You can't expect them to run it as a charity just because it is your hobby.

Have to call you on this – it's everyone's business on here how it's run, people pay their fees. You can't just call 'you know nothing about it' financially.

When markets expand, people sense an opportunity to get rich(er). Which is natural, but sure has taken the charm out of a lot of FPL content. This is the downside of the broadened appeal of FPL imo.

I'm pleased the BBC has run an article on it, and given it relative prominence on their news homepage. I appreciate the ownership of FFS get a lot of revenue through gambling, and the financial attraction is too strong for a lot of people to pass over, but there should be much tighter regulation of this sort of content.

I can imagine they're waiting to make an official statement / rebuff to the article but I hope we actually get some interaction on this from FFS here. It's been brought up a number of times since I've been here and has never been properly discussed by pretty much anyone that has ownership. No excuses now. Get on it.

Probably, but it won't be a fine led action, it'll just be a directive to cease the gambling ads at first.

In my actual job, I work in the trading, financial promotions industry and if the FCA need to speak with us then that's usually the approach. Presume ASA will have a similar approach.

Been playing since 2009/2010, not sure if I get equally stressed each season before deadline or if I keep forgetting, but ended up with a Salahless team to have a better squad depth (have Rash + plan to captain Haaland so couldn’t justify the 3.5 gap).
I wish you all a great season!

None of them have an ads policy they pay, the site just takes it!

        No age limits are enforced.

Gambling destroys families & what starts off as a ‘bit’ of fun soon turns evil.

No amount of spending limits, holidays will help the addict.

FFS did say they don't have an affiliates deal with Bet365 for it's fantasy game.

So presumably they just take the advertising spend, like with Fan Team etc.

It is all over the industry. Clubs, shirts, broadcasting etc.

Sports betting in the UK, casino and slots is rife.

It is much more tightly controlled in France but the UK used to let people gamble on credit cards.

It's a mess for sure but also a much bigger issue than fantasy football games.

It started with Super Casino licenses in the late 1990s. But there's a world of difference between going to an actual casino with cash and playing at 3 am on a Smartphone chasing losses without handing over any cash, just the press of a few numbers and buttons.

It's the casino that needs more control. Industries like horseracing with regular punters in control of their gambling are getting caught up with their bet roll and affordability checks whilst offshore casino's operating out of Malta etc run rife.

Apologies if already mentioned but FFS gets a call out in this article around the concern of gambling sites targeting FPL. I find it a shame that they’re focussed on it potentially affecting children given that it’s just as bad for adults but whatever potentially sorts it out!

Particularly interesting to see Plucky is being investigated by the Premier league after the particularly negative reception here and has had its sponsors withdraw.

Also interesting that FFS declined to comment. I’d been impressed by the article discussing filters to remove the gambling ad articles thinking it was a response to the community but seems it was just to cover their backs after the BBC contacted them.

Sure it should not get near children. I think it should not be near adults as many have such problems. I understand the betting target market will be a site like this and FPL sites in general. Sorry to say but this will be the last season I will sign up for FFS but they won't care. Has anyone else noticed content creators are plugging each other and similar advertising to a far greater extent these days? It is not David Monday's fault but he is not the same since he plugs marketing every 10 minutes on YouTube.

Agreed. I guess it’s cool that ‘more people are playing FPL’, but that apparently just opens the gate for companies to capitalise on our interest. Don’t get me wrong, people should get rewarded for producing stuff that has value, but the current state of affairs feels borderline sci-fi dystopian.

Agreed, man. I’ve been here for FFS’ stuff for eight-ish years, and I think the golden era is far behind us. Sure, the service is ‘better’ and more complex now…

…But the feeling of listening to a few mates having passionate discussions about FPL (Mark, Granville, Andy from Letstalkfpl etc) was infinitely superior to the current experience, which in many ways is reduced to capitalistically motivated influencers and branding. Ads ads ads, like and subscribe, be sure to check out, 50% off. Sigh.

I understand that they have to make money, but that’s what the subscription is for surely? It’s not exactly cheap as chips anymore, and more people are playing FPL than ever. The site feels bloated with sponsored content and half-baked content from the next FPL_contentcreator now, which sort of makes me use FFS less.

Sorry for the blackpilled comment, just felt like sharing 🙂

Thanks, yeah agreed. Cool, will have to check it out. My main go-to these days is LetstalkFPL’s YouTube channel, although he sometimes has sponsored bits he’s so chilled and down to earth and doesn’t try to maintain a YouTube persona (that’s my impression at least). Nice, short to-the-point-vids.

I don't know why people are surprised. Things that are free need to be paid for somehow. Fpl has very similar characteristics to gambling so makes sense for gambling companies to advertise here and FPL crrators/sites need revenue. It's that or paywall everything like FFFix do now.

Are people like Granville, Demi and Jonty still active on the site? I used to love the hour before kick off when everyone waited for Demi to give us the teams. It was great and looking more from the outside in,it doesn't seem the same place as before. Sorry for the long post.

Most of the old crew stopped posting on here about 5/6 years ago when a breakaway private forum was set up and the FFS community largely disintegrated.

Ironically those that weren't invited to the private forum needed a new home and went to Twitter and lucked themselves into being in the right place at the right time just when FPL Twitter and "content creating" started exploding.

People stop posting on here because the format has always been like pulling teeth, I know because it stopped me, same with Reddit, that’s painful too.

This site makes so much money yet they still have the dated blog style comments section which is hard to keep up with, if it moved with the times it would have been able to compete with the Twitter boom, it didn’t and there’s no real excuse for it either when they are in bed with various sponsors and are probably loaded as a result.

Always been more of a lurker but have been here for about a decade on various accounts. I think it’s really sad how the community was allowed to fall apart here due to lack of features. There’s very few places still like it on the internet with everything just on Facebook or Reddit these days. Used to love this place back in the day when it felt like it was just a group of mates running it.

For people who want in depth FPL discussions it is a horrendous format, especially when pages are moving quite quickly. I think it still works ok though if you want to just dip in and out and talk about whatever is being talked about / skim through a few comments when you have a spare 10 minutes to kill.

Either way, It's not the reason all the good posters left en masse over a short period of time.

A lot became content creators and use Twitter to build their income, that’s also one of the main reasons why Twitter became crap, that also used to be good for a laugh before it turned into a load of droids without personality trying to sell you their product so would be beige to try and keep everyone onside.

And if it falls one way it will do people a favour by sending a warning of not relying upon 1 YouTube account and a rumour 12 minutes prior to a deadline.

I'm looking forward to gw2 teams being shown on Twitter etc, because whilst Saliba was a good pick, Gabriel was the overwhelming favourite for corners and set peice attacking threat.

I think Saliba and Timber stay back on the halfway line when Gabriel goes into the box.

I was on this site first when I was 13 and the first two years I used the site were my best FPL years. It wasn’t just because I was using FFS it was because between 13 and 15 you have a mountain of time on your hands.

I am saying this because I’m certain there are plenty others on this site who are under 18. And they should use this site if they want to! Even though I’ve come to use FFS sparingly and tried to limit my FPL in-take, at its best FFS is a giving community.

I don’t think, however, with the gambling ads used on the site that it’s necessarily safe for a young person on FFS.
As a teenager, I would read every article and hot topic on here and delight in seeing my posts in the comments turn green. Had FFS been taking gambling ads ten years ago I know I would have tried to find a way onto those sites. I know because when things like Fanteam and the like started promoting I tried to sign up and was only rebuffed because of location-based restrictions.

From my vantage, it’s easy to see how gambling ads in fantasy spaces sow the seeds of gambling dependence. A user follows those they see excel at that which the user invests so much time. A young FPL player takes their advice in a way that verges on hearing the musings of oracles. You see these people ally themselves with the gambling industry and you assume their success translates to real money. If their success translates and you are following their advice, there must be easy money to be made.

I am not asking anyone on here to self-censor. That would make the site disingenuous, sterile, and ultimately less warm for not allowing people to be themselves/whichever online persona they would like to take on. I am asking FFS, who is always mentioned in these industry-wide articles about fantasy football, to be a leader and drop the gambling ads once and for all.

I think it is time people stopped kidding themselves. It is time we stopped using "engaged managers" to "addicted managers".
To me it is blindingly obvious there is a narrative with FPL, gambling and an addictive personality. I want to cover myself by saying I am not pigeon holing everybody, but a large portion.

Regarding gambling, the bottom line is there are plenty of people on here, and other FPL sites, that are in their teens (as Michu articulates so well above) or may be vulnerable in other regards.

Addiction has been formally recognised as a disease for many years, so to promote gateways to things like alcohol or gambling is simply irresponsible.

Remember, it's not that long ago that people thought advertising tobacco was ok, so should we just have agreed with them at that time?

We intuitively know right from wrong and if someone needs guidelines or legislation to help them understand that, then they may have other issues.

To present the desire to protect young or vulnerable people as being a "nanny state" or to categorise gambling as a product like a box of cereal is shows a lack of true awareness of the effects addiction.

The devastation that addiction can cause to a person, and the suffering felt by the people that love them is truly horrific.

If you are fortunate enough not to have seen that up close and personal then count yourself lucky. If you had, then you already know promoting gambling to kids is disgraceful.

Agreed. It’s an epidemic amongst young men in the UK.

We are in that uncomfortable period before everybody recognises we have made a huge social mistake.

I agree but also curious about where people think we should draw the line. Should ads for fast food and soda be prohibited in a country where you are this likely to get diabetes or die from heart disease? Should McDonald’s and Coca-Cola be allowed to sponsor sport events?

I remember being beyond excited by the 1992 Barcelona Olympics as a nine year old boy; there was something magical about it. It was sponsored by Coca Cola, so I cycled to the petrol station and bought a 4-pack of Coke bottles. Drinking it in front of the TV, watching the sports, made me feel part of it all. It's actually a nice memory, but personally I do think the likes of McDonald's shouldn't be permitted as sponsors to sports events. Children are particularly susceptible to advertising, so my view is that adverts should be split into child-friendly (not unhealthy) and child-unfriendly (unhealthy), with the latter not being permitted when children are likely going to be exposed to the adverts.

I think that perhaps detracts from the current issue, and even devalues it.

By saying the reverse and framing it in such a way that, 'if coke can have an inch wide logo on a shirt, then gambling ads can freely and repeatedly target vulnerable inidividuals' can show a slippery slope.

Either way, it's an ethical nightmare - not sure how it'll be tackled, although I hope we do see some firmer regulations in the future.

Agree. Internet is a messy place and it will be much worse, I think.
It's like letting your kids play in a lightning storm and expect the lightning bolt won't hit them.
I need addblock addons and all the stuff to feel ok browsing the internet.
If you watch all those sponsorships (fast food, betting etc.) on those kits and whereever they put them, you need to be prepared (be protected, grown up, educated or whatever you call it) to be able to resist.

Reddit doesn't feel much like a community but does work as an FPL forum. The site format is also a bit outdated as it is here but a benefit is that discussions on specific topics are well categorized. It also has a stable and growing base of users. I don't use it regularly but will sometimes google "Eze fpl reddit" and click a few threads to get a few opinions.

Richarl and the new striker will do for now. The prize money for 3 or 4 midtable places is puny compared to his transfer price. Need to be realistic this season and use it to build the squad in Posty's image. His type of wingers are needed, spread the cash around 3 or 4 promising youths.

I would be surprised if Rashford doesn't score against Wolves. Just hoping he gets two.

Live FPL still not showing properly?

The safety score can't be 54 after yesterday.
