Not really - Son up front is a completely different option to Son out left. People had been waiting for Richarlison to be dropped and it went exactly as predicted. Nothing had changed with Sterling except they were playing the worst team in the league.

I agree with you to some extent, but they are still good options and worth having in the long term. Different people have different strategies. Sterling (Luton Town) and Son (Burnley) were opportunistic differentials for those specific gameweeks. Some took a gamble on them before they hauled, which is what you have to do in order to get ahead of the curve. Predicting the next player who could explode has always been the key to doing well in FPL.

For example, could Martinelli go crazy and get 13–18 points against Everton? Absolutely yes, from my point of view. He is one of the many who could do well in the coming weeks, and therefore I'm considering buying him.

Based on Arsenal's record at Goodison, I wouldn't be so sure. Only 2 goals scored and 1 point won in the last 5 meet-ups.

What the hell?! You're right. Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't even realise our record against them had gotten so much worse. I had the most recent spankings (4-0 and 5-1) in mind, but they both happened at the Emirates.

I think that is the most frustrating thing as a Jackson owner. He looked clinical in La Liga tail end of last year. He looked clinical in pre-season. And then he has now unlocked headless chicken mode. But for a massive deflection on a Sterling pass, we would be talking about him as the worst player in FPL, no debtate.

Not going to ask him to take the bins out, yet.

The least said about 'explosive' and a 4.5 forward is enough though. Majority will have Archer 1st on their bench sooner or later as the midfield options are just too many.

It's early days and while only Man City and Liverpool are conceding fewer than a goal a game on average, there's still some home advantage in defence.

Notably Spurs and Villa, and to a lesser extent Everton, Chelsea and Man United.

These stats are obviously skewered by fixtures and a v small sample of this season so far.

Salah is being shipped out every GW. Is it time to start moving on from him? Even if he stays, the game is evolving with or without him now and he won't be here next season.

I thought I was getting rid this week, but looking at Wolves' open play xGC and his own record against them, along with him matching his own record for consecutive matches with goal contributions, I think I may keep. Probably getting rid of Bruno instead. I was happy to keep especially with Højlund fit (and already looking like he's going to link up well with him and Rashford) but those fixtures don't scream goals, and stuff like this Sancho business feels like things may implode soon. Even v Brighton who always leak chances, they've beaten ManUtd 7-1 on aggregate in their last 3 games

If he stays he's still one of the best and most reliable FPL options in the game.

I'd take him over Rashford or Son given his historical output and their upcoming fixtures are decent as well.

I haven't had him this season and don't plan to until perhaps GW9 but if you own him I'm not sure why you would want to get rid. He has returned in every game.

Not only has he returned in every game, he should have had far more points. He missed a penalty when many owners captained and if Darwin could finish his dinner instead of hitting the woodwork he would have had two more assists on Sun.

I know Richarlison has played poorly, but do you think he will be out of the mix completely. I think he can play out wide, if Son continues centrally. He didn’t start last weekend in part because he picked up up a knock in the mid week game. He was a very good player, has he lost it completely? I have him in a draft league and don’t know if I should drop him yet. Very different game with draft and shallow waiver pool.

Glazers now not selling as they want 10 billion. Dealt with the greenwood wrong & had to make a u turn once saw public reaction. Got issue with sancho & now Antony dropped by Brazil after his allegations! Will utd carry on playing him?

Szob or Elliot the only ones proficient on the right. Don’t think he’s the kind of guy to force one of Diaz, Darwin or Jota to play OOP

        1. Arteta

I swear I remember Darwin playing as a left winger when Firmino was still at the club. But yeah, in this scenario, he would start in the middle. Diogo played in multiple positions during his career (LW, CF, RW, SS) and could probably grow into any role with time. Diaz primarily started on the left and is the most natural LW on the team. Szoboszlai has played almost everywhere (https://www.transfermarkt.com/dominik-szoboszlai/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/451276) where his managers needed him.

No one has a lot of starts on the right wing because it belonged to Salah for years, and he started pretty much all the matches he was available for.

            • 10 Years

Darwin played LW against Newcastle last season at SJP. Gakpo played through the middle that game.

The only reason Nunez found himself on the left on occasion was because Diaz was injured.

Nunez will play down the middle of Salah goes.

Jota wouldn't have to play 90 minutes. They have options and combinations for the front three. I shouldn't use the word "definitely" in the original post, but I still think he would be a starter.

But when I think about Szobo's potential, I see someone who could make a mockery out of his price in real life and also in FPL. He's a 90-minute man on some set pieces and free kicks, a playmaker, a creator, and not a yellow card magnet. I only followed his progress because he has been linked with us since 2020, and I would happily have him at my club.

          1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
            • 5 Years

I'm getting him next week I'm pretty sure. Had my interest after the Bournemouth game, if TAA misses some time he'll basically be on all setpieces, but he reminds me a lot of the style of Gerrard or KDB, great engine and happy to run into the box and shoot, as well as being able to thread balls through. I normally wouldn't pay much attention to long-distance goals but he's well capable of getting a few of those along with others

Ironically enough this is probably lucky for some in that it's an early warning in the week against early transfers, might save a few people from making mistakes

    C Son / Isak

How about this WC draft ?

Giving Jackson the second chance he deserves x
Double spurs defence is a very bold shout but with the fixtures/rotation it could work x

    Leno // Mr. nipples
Porro Udogie Chilwell // Estupinan Botman
    Saka Rashford Bruno Son Mbeumo
    Haaland Jackson // Archer

      Double United midfield ...

There's no way that is correct considering the huge off-field issues and their on-field performance...

I hate the draft tbh. Leno cannot possibly be the pick when Fulham's xGC data is so bad. The double Spurs defense is awful since it's their attack that is strong and it has no Liverpool coverage.

Leno has the 3rd highest pts of any GK, despite playing City, Arsenal and Brentford and conceding 10 goals in those 3 games. He now has 3 home games in 4 including Luton and Sheffield Utd, and faces 9 of the bottom 10 in the next 15 games. Onana to him on the cards for me this week

This. Emi Martínez a decent option too but prefer Leno as the fixtures he could get minutes points in rotate well with areola whereas Martinez’s bad fixtures don’t rotate with anyone cheap

I'm wildcarding. I worked out in my planner that Flekken rotates well with Areola from GW9, but before then Leno is the best temporary stand-in.

Leno + Flekken to start could be nice actually and then sell Leno or Flekken for Areola in GW10 if one of them ends up looking like a massive mistake or even stick with it if it’s working

Yeah, you could do it that way. I prefer to keep Areola and hop about with 4.5 keepers to play the fixtures.

(Also for what it's worth, Brentford, City and Arsenal are respectively 1st, 3rd and 4th for xG this season, and Fulham faced penalties in each of those games against them)

        That was mean !

The WC midfield choice means dropping one of Bruno or Maddison for me. Given the immediate fixtures I think Bruno is better and has penalties guaranteed whereas penalties at spurs seem more likely to go to son. United have the fixtures now to turn it around I think.

Leno rotates really nicely with Mr. Nips so although he’s not an amazing choice this year, none of the keepers are and I would rather my 4.5m keeper be needing to make lots of saves I guess.

The spurs defence double up is more because they play very attacking and the near term fixtures I’d play them in are SHU, lut, FUL so I don’t mind so much for now.

If Salah is definitely staying I’ll be avoiding altogether. If he goes I’ll probably avoid altogether for the time being anyway until we have an idea of who the new talisman may be

Sorry just had to be honest.

WC midfield - I would drop at least one if not both United mids. There's no way with their current issues that their players are the optimal midfield options even if the fixtures are decent. Maddison is a far better pick than either Bruno or Rash imo.

Leno is fine I suppose but tbh, this is one of the main reasons I DON'T want to WC now. We don't know yet who the best 4.5m GK is. I think it'll be Flekken or Verbruggen tbh but it's hard to tell now. I think Areola - Turner could legitimately be fine until you figure out who the best choice is.

Spurs double up in defense blocks you from getting Maddison who I think is better than both United mids so I wouldn't do it.

Liverpool is where you can get your high upside differential. Diaz or Szobo are decent options. Even Nunez if you're feeling brave. I think it's imperative you have at least 1 or 2 differentials to get ahead of the curve on WC. And even though it might not be clear now, at least one of them will prove to be a good option.

Only joking mate you’re one of my favs on here x

Had to WC to catch up after an awful start and then last GW put me up near the top of the pile after I’d already hit the trigger so I’m between using WC to accelerate or protect rank

Realistically my WC team is going to have Maddison over a United mid but I’m just struggling to choose right now. It’s also tough finding a 5th defender who rotates well with the others I’ve picked. The options are Villa and Forest who’s defences are far from being settled so far with cash’s place in question when Moreno returns and Forest have just signed a million players on deadline day and Boly is supposedly away to Saudi. May end up setting and forgetting with trippier and Baldock instead of botman and Cash/Boly.

I may try starting with Nunez over Jackson for the first 2 and see as my differential but I think Jackson will blow up soon enough and leave me behind.

I don't think you need a 5th defender tbh. The 4 you have are really good and you have transfers anyway to be able to switch them around.

I'd pick Cash for now and then adapt as need be. He's cheap and if he gets dropped can just rot since you have bench headaches anyway.

One of the things I learned from two years ago when I had my worst season was planning too far ahead rotation wise. FPL moves so fast that it's better to make a transfer for the next 2-3 games when a player looks hot than to plan for a player rotating into your team in 3 weeks or growing into their good fixtures through average ones.

Pick the best players for now and with some medium term planning and then you'll have transfers to fix the problems that come up.

It's also why I went Maddison over Sterling last week. bur SHU is better than NFO bou in the immediate future. Sure on paper the two after that are theoretically better for Sterling but FPL moves fast enough that I might have shipped Sterling by then. And so it's proven with some people already getting cold feet on him when the rest of their mids are strong.

This season in particular I'm not looking too far ahead. This isn't picking form over fixtures, it's picking players for shorter burst spells like Alvarez, Foden knowing that I'm not wedded to the players and can change them as it goes.

Yeah the defence on WC is going to be tough to get value out of but will ultimately depend on my attack I think.

Lovely advice thank you, alvarez is slowly pulling me back in especially I go with Salah

I do not like the draft and it's my opinion. Nowhere do I say that you must do what I think. People have different interpretations of the data and the eye test. I'm just sharing mine.

Could I be nicer, yes. You're right about that. But I can be impatient so it comes out wrong that's all.

If I could WC now, mine would be:

      Leno | Areola
      Chilwell Udogie Digne/Cash | Estupinan Schar/Henry
      Salah Saka Maddison Sterling Mbeumo
      Haaland Archer | Wissa

Saka to Son GW8. Sterling to Diaby GW9. Mbeumo to Bowen GW10. Each one has alternatives, so you're unlikely to be backed into a corner

This looks good and highlights a key point about wildcarding now. The next big shift in template will arrive in week 9 - so the question to ask is, can I get to that template team relatively easily with my gw5 wildcard team? I think both the teams suggested can, so they look solid, imo.

Yeah nice perspective that’ll be worth considering going forwards especially if Salah stays. As it stands I’m struggling to justify his price as he’s not outstanding in comparison to the rest of the 9m and below bunch but he could be from 9 onwards I agree

I love Salah's consistency and fixture list, even without capping him often

The Saka - Son - Rashford three-GW-each switcheroo surprised me when I noticed it, but it could easily be Son set-and-forget over Salah if funds are tighter

And yeah, double Spurs attack over defence for me as well, if tripling up. Check out how those five defenders in a rotation, with Chilwell to Moreno around GW8+ too

It wasn't really out of the blue though. It was against one of the worst defences in the league so far at the Etihad. Of course he could do it against West Ham too but the likelihood isn't the same.

A pro Bruno point to consider:

Bruno is still an easy keep imo. His underlying numbers have been great other than one bad game against Arsenal.
