GAMEWEEK 6: SATURDAY’S HEADLINES IN BRIEF

FPL Gameweek 3 Scout Picks: Man City triple-up includes Foden

There was an almost inevitable blank for Julian Alvarez (£6.9m) after being transferred in by almost 1.4 million FPL managers ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

Ten-man Manchester City did complete the job against Nottingham Forest despite Rodri‘s (£5.7m) red card, with Kyle Walker (£5.2m) and Phil Foden (£7.6m) bagging 11-point hauls when combining for the game’s opener.

Erling Haaland (£14.1m) consolidated his position at the top of the FPL points table with his eighth goal of the season, meanwhile.

First among goalkeepers for points in 2023/24, by some distance, is Bernd Leno (£4.6m), who again combined saves with a clean sheet to claim maximum bonus in the stalemate at Selhurst Park.

There was another blank for Eberechi Eze (£6.3m) in that fixture (his fifth in six matches), as there was for Bryan Mbeumo (£6.9m) in Brentford’s surprise 3-1 home defeat to Everton.

James Tarkowski (£4.4m) bagged a goal and an assist in that match and is the top-scoring FPL asset of Gameweek 6 so far.

Pedro Neto (£5.5m) moved joint-second among midfielders for points with a goal at Kenilworth Road, where Luton Town warmed up for Double Gameweek 7 by gaining their first point of 2023/24.

The Hatters’ Carlton Morris (£5.5m) scored from the spot for the second time this season.

And in the late-evening kick-off, Manchester United stopped the rot with a 1-0 win over Burnley thanks to a Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) volley.

      its tricky to decide. It depends who is in form. For example, lets say son is starting upfront every week, rash is scoring every week as is saka. Salah owners have no chance of having access to that. You also need to be capping Salah ideally, but will people hold their nerve when Haaland gets a hatti?

  Just don’t see on a points to pound basis how Salah is worth it when there’s a perma-captain in Haaland and a bunch of 6.5-9m players that can match him or close
  
  It’s too many hits or compromises IMO
  
  I think it’s also one of those things like all the MIDs where Salah inevitably blanks and suddenly people go cold - see also Sterling, Son, Foden already this season

  No plans or worries. He's in my potential future targets thoughts. Along with at least half a dozen other mids.
  
  Rolling my ft this week team is in good shape. Will assess all targets in gw 8.
  
  Salah is clearly not a must have given Haaland superior captaincy. Making my gw1 team I immediately dismissed him as an option. The player prices and Haaland captaincy meant going without was a no brainer. Squad smashed it and was ranked top 1k after 3 weeks.
  
  GW4 wildcard and since has been the opposite almost every decision has led to no points. Wh

    Whereas Salah started the season a bad pick imo now I see him as a very strong option. The difference is now there's established underpriced bargains available. Alvarez is like a 10m striker for 6m. Diaby, Neto, Awoniyi, JWP, Bowen and the Brighton crew are all brilliant consistent returners. Salah with these guys could definitely be better than multiple 7.5-8.5 mids. But just as likely to go the other way imo. Saka, odegaard, martinelli, Maddison, rashford etc are guys with pedigree and history that along witbh Trent or trippier can easily outscore Salah and cheapies.
    
    So I'm just staying flexible and doing my scouting. My big regret is losing Trent so rectifying that is in my thoughts too

Watched Brentford live for the first time this season, turned on during the second half. They looked awful!

I assume this is not a typical performance from them, but Mbuemo is quickly becoming another Jackson in my team - 1 return, too many blanks now.

Tempted to move him to Diaby despite the next game against Forest

    Why is Wissa more of an issue then Mbuemo? If BRE can't beat EVE I'd be bailing on all BRE players asap. Mbuemo ain't the Saviour boyz'n'girlz.

  I was wondering how they had the best attacking stats before the break. I already have Mbeumo, sold Wissa last gw already so it is time for me to get rid of Mbeumo too. I am taking the no nonsense approach this season.

  Worst Brentford performance I've ever seen. Losing Rico and Schade on top of Toney is rough. Frank has built their success in the premier league based on a highly organised, gritty, and very hardworking defensive unit and fast and direct counter attacks. More recently he's used a more attacking open setup as an alternative in certain games. I think he'll go back to basics with the 5-3-2 low risk strangle the opposition to death fundamentals that made them so successful.
  
  Wissa will surely be dropped for maupay. Mbuemo will always be a solid pick. His early season returns were never going to last anyway

      Neto transfers in might be driven by prepping to afford Salah, e.g. Sterling/Fernandes to Neto/Salah is my best route for getting Salah back. But don't want to do it for a couple of GWs ... could be nervy on the prices in the meantime ...

        Yes I was just playing around with a WC team using ‘Value’ combined with xGI (with Haaland, Salah and Saka fixed) and Neto comes out strongly (plus he’s obviously doing it on the pitch). Diaby is almost a must have while there’s a few strikers that come out well Awoniyi would come above Alvarez I think, plus Morris, Edouard and Amdouni.
